500 - Alice Veltman-Alt-Glover, 97, of East Greenbush, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023. Alice was born in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of a couple, who had come from Finland to begin their new lives together. Alice always loved writing, penning many poems and stories- some of which found their way into a book for her family and friends. She retired as a Secretary for the East Greenbush Central School's Columbia High, where she had worked for over 20 years.

499 - Ruby E. Willoughby, 82, of Middleville, died on November 29, 2023. Ruby was born on April 5, 1941 in the Town of German Flatts and received her education from Mohawk and West Canada Valley Schools. She was the head cook at West Canada Valley Elementary for several years, a librarian at Middleville Library and Town of Fairfield Clerk for a few years. She was last employed as a teacher’s aide at West Canada Valley Central School.

498 - Barbara A. (Furner) Timian, 85, of Dolgeville and a Sauquoit native, passed away Sunday morning, December 31, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1938, in Utica and was educated at Sauquoit High School. She was employed with Dolgeville Central School as a remedial math and algebra teacher for 23 years until her retirement in 2000. She continued to substitute for many years after her retirement.

497 - Marian Louise Willard Besch, 94, of West Sand Lake, passed away December 27, 2023. In her field of Occupational Therapy, Louise showed a commitment to helping others through her work with the Albany Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), and the YMCA.

496 - Marcia O'Hare, 80, of Scotia passed away December 28, 2023. Born inAlbany, New York, she was a 1961 graduate of Mohonasen High School. Marcia's professional life began as a Math teacher at Central Park Jr. High School in Schenectady and later at Notre Dame High School in Schenectady. In 1974 she left teaching to start her career at Schenectady County; first as a caseworker in Children Services and then as a Supervisor for Adult Protective Services.

495 - Judith E. Berlin, 81, of Ballston Lake, entered into eternal life December 29, 2023. Born in Schenectady, NY, she was a graduate of the former Linton High School. Judy had been a Draftswoman for the State of NY and later became a Teacher's Aide at Ichabod Crane School District in Valatie, where she worked with Special Education students.

494 - Marie Anderson Montgomery of North Greenbush passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. Marie was born February 26, 1933, in Troy and graduated from Troy High School in 1951. She worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance from 1951 – 1955 and at Hudson Valley Community College for 15 years as a Data Entry Operator before retiring in March of 1988.

491 - Ronald "Ronnie" G. DiDonna of Johnstown passed away on December 18, 2023. Ronnie was born on November 26, 1950. Ronnie lived most of his life in Niskayuna before moving to Johnstown. He was retired from the Schenectady City School District. After retirement, he spent his time hunting antiques.

490 - Thomas J. Lindsay, 88, of Scotia, passed away December 23, 2023. His U.S. Army career spanned 33 years, including three years of active duty in Alaska and 30 years in the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. He retired in 1987 as a lieutenant colonel. In September 1962, Tom began teaching fifth grade at Brandywine School in the Schenectady City School District. In 1968, he was appointed as an elementary principal. He served as vice principal at Central Park and Woodlawn and principal at Brandywine, Grout Park, Pleasant Valley, and Lincoln schools. He retired in 1993.

489 - Gail (Bacheller) Yuille, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday December 26, 2023. Gail was born on St. Patrick's Day, 1945 in Mineola, NY and graduated from Mineola High School, Class of 1963. She taught elementary education for 30 years at both the Draper Union Free School District, and later with the Mohonasen Central School District, retiring in June of 1999.

488 - Madeline M. Longacker, 75, of Clifton Park, passed away December 28, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she grew up in East Northport, N.Y. She worked as a reading teacher for 20 years in the Mechanicville City School District. Madeline was an avid reader, a crocheter and loved gardening.

487 - Joyce M. Hooker, 89, of Rotterdam, passed away Monday December 18, 2023. Born in Schenectady, she was a graduate of the Mildred Elley School. Joyce was employed as a secretary for the Mohonasen School District. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, camping and family get-togethers.

486 - Ellen J. Gruben, 82, of Saratoga Springs, died on December 24, 2023. Born in the Bronx, she taught elementary education in Mechanicville and Averill Park. She was 4th grade level chair at Cedarhurst Elementary School in Long Island. After her 10-year career as an educator, Ellen worked as a bookkeeper for her late husband's businesses.

484 - Dolores I. Carrara, 94, of Niskayuna, died Monday, December 11, 2023. Dolores was born in Schenectady and was a 1947 graduate of Mt Pleasant High School. Dolores began work with Sperry Gyroscope and also worked for the General Electric Company. Dolores finished her dedicated working career as a Secretary with the Niskayuna School District, retiring in 1988.

483 - Marie (DeMaria) Choppa, 98, of Albany, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023. Born and educated in Albany, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marie worked as an office assistant for many years at the former School 23 in Albany.

482 - James L. Dickson, 74, born in Chicago and a resident of Schenectady passed away on October 31, 2023. Jim worked with the arts, mostly as artistic director, opera company manager (Santa Fe, Princeton, and Newark), and voice scout (for Placido Domingo's Operalia). He ran the Festival of Peoples in Newark, NJ, for many years. In the area, he worked as a writing tutor at HVCC.

481 - Marion Elizabeth Harwick, 87, of Delmar, died December 13, 2023. Marion was born in 1936, in Albany N.Y. and grew up in Castleton on the Hudson. Her work as a Math and Special Education teacher spanned close to 50 years, spending most of her career in the Albany City School District. When her daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy, Marion established what is now known as the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, a non-profit devoted to advocating for those with epilepsy.

480 - Frank J. Palmisano, 73, of New Hartford, died December 13, 2023. Frank was born on February 2, 1950 in Utica and graduated from Proctor High School in 1968. For over forty years, Frank taught art in the Utica City School District. Frank was also well-known for his coaching. He coached many public school teams over the years.

479 - Mary Ann Duffy, 87, of Schenectady, went home to the Lord on Monday, December 18, 2023. Mary was born on November 4, 1936 in Schenectady and graduated from Draper High School in Rotterdam - Class of 1955. She retired after 25 years as a school secretary in the Schenectady School District, working at Hamilton, Grout Park, and Lincoln Elementary Schools, as well as Howe International Magnet and Mont Pleasant High School.

478 - Stanley M. Kosek, 86, of Saratoga Springs, entered into eternal life on Monday, December 18, 2023. Born on May 24, 1937 in Cohoes, N.Y., Stan attended Christian Brothers Academy. Stan was the Regional Computer Center Director for the Saratoga BOCES for 30 years, retiring in 1992. As a talented musician, he was co-leader of the Kosek Brothers New Yorkers Orchestra for many years and was active playing bass with St. Clements' choir for 10 years.

475 - Kathleen Margaret Boucher, 75, of St. James, NC, passed away December 17, 2023. Born in Schenectady, NY, Kathleen graduated from Schenectady High School in 1965. Kathleen enjoyed a career in local print modeling, appearing in numerous ads and runway shows before bringing her talents to the Guidance Department at Niskayuna High School where she worked until her retirement in 2003.

474 - Gary S. Beadnell, 74, of Schenectady, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023. Born in Glens Falls, he grew up in Rotterdam and graduated from Draper High School. Gary's early career began as a middle school teacher in the Guilderland School District. He went on to become an elementary school principal and worked in the Schalmont and Mohonasen School Districts before ending his career as an administrator in the Albany City School District.

473 - Yvonne Johnson Couch, 87, of Colonie and formerly of Malta, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023. Born in Topeka, Kan., she was a graduate of Topeka High School. After raising her four daughters, Yvonne was employed by the Niskayuna Central School District as a School Bus Driver, a job she immensely enjoyed.

472 - Joseph Buscini, 84, of East Greenbush passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Joseph was born January 31, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Joe was a chemical operator for BASF (GAF) for many years before retiring. Joe also worked concurrently as a bus driver for the East Greenbush Central Schools for over 30 years, and donated his time on the Bruen Rescue Squad.

471 - Elizabeth "Betty Boop" Cadwallader, 92, of Schenectady, passed away on December 10, 2023. Betty was born on August 20, 1931, in Erie, Pa. and graduated from Lawrence Park High School. She was employed at General Electric for 13 years. She worked at Kelly Girl Services in Erie, Pa. and Albany. Betty was employed at C.T. Male Associates for 24 years. She retired and then was employed at RPI College for 10 years. She then went on to work part-time at North Colonie Elementary Schools.

470 - Gerry Holzman, 90, of Brunswick, died on December 8, 2023. Following his college graduation, he served in the US Army in Ethiopia, Africa. He went on to have two different careers: 25 years as a public school teacher/administrator on Long Island, where he taught English and Social Studies, followed by over 40 years as a professional woodcarver/sculptor. Trained in the UK, Gerry's diverse work can be found in public buildings, houses of worship, educational institutions, commercial businesses, and private collections. His single most significant work is the Empire State Carousel, a full-size operating merry-go-round based entirely on the theme of New York State. Described as a museum you can ride on, this revolving history lesson is Gerry's original design, made possible with the generous and enthusiastic contributions of more than 1,000 artists and volunteers. The carousel is located at the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown.

469 - Sally M. MacDormand, 92, of Rotterdam, passed Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Born in Winchester, MA, Sally attended local schools in Winchester and moved to Schenectady with her husband and children in 1962. Sally worked for several years with the Head Start Program at Draper School in Rotterdam.

468 - Helen Steiner, born in 1927 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, died at home on December 9, at age 96. Helen came to the USA with her family in 1939. She began her teaching career in Idaho Falls, Idaho, then taught elementary grades in Scotia-Glenville until retiring in 1986.

466 - Rosemary P. Fronk, 90, of Glenville, passed away December 9, 2023. Born in Schenectady, she graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1951. Rosemary was a dedicated educator for many years, teaching math (part-time) for Niskayuna Central School District while raising her family and for 17 years was a middle school math teacher for Scotia-Glenville Middle School, retiring in 1988.

465 - Joseph M. Hogan, 87, of Albany, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Born on July 12, 1936, in Albany, he taught and coached at Catholic schools in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. In 1966, Joe returned home to take a teaching assignment at Watervliet High School, where he served as a Social Studies teacher until his retirement in 1991. He coached the Watervliet Boys' Varsity Basketball team from 1969-1976. In 1978 he was appointed Head Women's Basketball coach at Siena College, accumulating a 119-51 record in his tenure there until 1985.

464 - Terry Philip Watson, 76, of Ilion, passed away December 11, 2023. He was born in Ilion on July 5, 1947 and attended Mohawk Central Schools. Terry was employed as a Teacher with Little Falls Schools from 1969-1970 and then with Ilion Central Schools at Barringer Road Elementary, where he taught 4th grade from 1970 until his retirement in 2002.

463 - Irma M. Mahar, 97, of Saratoga Springs, passed away December 11, 2023. She was born in Phoenicia, NY, attended Kingston High School and graduated in 1944. Irma began her career with the New York State Dept. of Health as a lab technician in Albany. She returned to school to earn a teaching degree and began a 20+ year career at Forts Ferry School as a second-grade teacher for the North Colonie Central School District.

461 - Nancy Elizabeth Moran, 76, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023. She was born in Troy, NY on August 5, 1947. Nancy attended Catholic Central High School in Troy and graduated in 1965. Later she relocated to the city of Saratoga Springs where she began her career as a First grade and Kindergarten teacher for the Saratoga Springs City School District.

460 - Juanita E. Wagner, 76, of Feura Bush, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Juanita was born on March 22, 1947 and grew up in Feura Bush. She was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School. She held several jobs through the years while raising her children. She retired as a bus monitor for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District.

459 - Charlotte de Blois, 96, passed away on December 2, 2023. Charlotte was born on June 6, 1927 in Munster, Germany. After World War II, Charlotte studied at the University of Music Detmold and later taught music at several schools. After moving to the United States, Charlotte taught classical piano for over fifty years in Niskayuna. In the late 1990s, Charlotte founded the Young Musicians Forum (YMF) in Niskayuna. She was committed to bringing young, talented musicians to the local area and assisting in starting their careers.

457 - Betty Kumler Sutton of Schenectady died December 4, 2023 at age 95. She graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived most of her adult life in Scotia. She taught school in Peerless, Montana and for the Scotia- Glenville District at Sacandaga Elementary.

456 - Frank R. Blanchard, 76, of Fort Hunter passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. Frank was born in 1947 and graduated from Amsterdam High School. He served as a high school biology teacher and department chair in Gloversville, retiring in 2002. Frank owned and managed three apartment buildings locally, and served in Fort Hunter's volunteer fire department.

455 - Liam Donahue Pickett, 31, of Niskayuna, N.Y. passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Born on August 16, 1992 in Albany, he graduated from Colonie Central High School in 2011. He was a chemistry teacher at the Doane Stuart School for six years, where he revived the theater program and directed many shows. Since 2022, he was a beloved chemistry teacher at Amsterdam High School and for five years the proud founder, producer, and director of Footloose Theater Programs, a theater summer camp in Albany.

454 - Joseph Vespasiano passed away in Little Falls, at the age of 98, on December 1, 2023. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1943 and soon embarked on what he referred to as "his 2 year camping trip", serving as a Sargeant in the US Army 90th Infantry Division during World War II. He took part in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and was a member of a unit awarded the French Croix de Guerre. Mr. V joined the Mohawk Central School as an Industrial Arts teacher for Grades 7-12, where he enjoyed a career of 30+ years. During his time in Mohawk, he received the NY State Industrial Arts Association, Regional Teacher of the Year Award from Mohawk Valley Industrial Ed. Assoc. (1981-1982).

453 - Valentino Fioravandi Tebbano, 96, of Albany, died November 30, 2023. Immediately after high school graduation in June 1945, he entered the US Army, serving at the end of World War II. He taught elementary school and drove a bus in the Broadalbin-Perth School District, and then taught at Loudonville Elementary School in North Colonie. In 1958, he was appointed principal of West Albany Elementary School in South Colonie. In 1978, Dr. Tebbano was appointed superintendent in the South Colonie Central School District.

452 - Doreen (D'Aurizio) Gleason, 76, of Rotterdam, NY, passed away December 1, 2023. Doreen was born July 13, 1947, in Schenectady and graduated from Schalmont High School in 1965. She worked over 30 years as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Schenectady County Community College, being recognized as employee of the year in 2000.

451 - Caroline E. Babbitt, 99, a longtime resident of Schoharie, NY passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. Mrs. Babbitt was born November 3, 1924, in Troy and graduated from Catholic Central High School As WWII was ending, she went to college and began working at Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School, primarily teaching high school math. After her children were born, she became a stay at home mom to raise them.

450 - Ruth Ada (Drudy) Dibelius, 99, of Ballston Spa, passed away on November 29, 2023. For 12 years she served as secretary at the Junior-Senior High School in Ballston Spa, a job which she expanded to encompass responsibility for all administrative activities. She managed a student secretaries program which developed work skills and responsibility in many young women. She received college degrees in her forties, and became executive director of Planned Parenthood in Schenectady.

449 - RoseMarie Bacchi, 86, of Glenville, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023. RoseMarie was a 1955 graduate of Nott Terrace High School and worked locally as a seamstress and at The Imperial. She retired as a school monitor from the Scotia-Glenville High School after 20 years of service, where she was well respected and adored by her students.

448 - Claudia G. Anderson, 88, of East Berne, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Claudia was born at the Flower Hospital in Manhattan and graduated from Bronx High School of Science. Claudia had a long, successful career as an Earth Science Teacher, retiring in 1990 from Cairo-Durham High School. She was a talented artist and many people treasure her gifts of art.

447 - Pio 'Pete' Venditti, 90, of Rotterdam, died Saturday, November 25, 2023. Pete was born in Carnello, Italy on October 23, 1933, came to the United States in 1935, spent his youth in Schenectady's 'Goose Hill' neighborhood, and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1952. Soon after graduating he joined the US Navy, spending the bulk of his four years in Washington, D.C. Pete began his teaching career at Phillip Livingston High School in Albany and then continued at Bethlehem Central School, teaching Industrial Arts.

446 - Shirley Larkin Butterfield, 96, of Rensselaer, died Saturday, November 18, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of the town of Sand Lake and most recently, Rensselaer. Shirley was a 1944 graduate of Averill Park High School. She returned to her alma mater as an administrative assistant in the late 1960's and retired in the early 1990's.

445 - Patricia "Patsy" Bellizzi, 76of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on November 24, 2023. After growing up in Niskayuna and graduating from Niskayuna High School, she earned a bachelor's degree and became an elementary school teacher. Patsy transitioned from classroom teaching to raising three children in Delmar and after her own children were grown, she returned to teaching.

444 - Richard Armstrong Willig, 82, of Chester, VA, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He graduated from Niskayuna High School, joined the United States Navy, proudly served four years of active duty and 24 years in the Navy Reserve, retiring in 1991 as Captain. Richard taught calculus and physics from 1968 to 1970 at Menands High School. In 1970 he began his 30-year career in real estate.

443 - G. Eleanor (Defreest) Fasoldt, 100, of North Greenbush, died on November 22, 2023. Born on October 10, 1923, Eleanor grew up on a dairy farm in Defreestville. As a secretary, Eleanor was dearly loved by students and staff alike during all her years at Belltop Elementary School in the East Greenbush School District and later, at Hudson Valley Community College.

442 - John J. Buckley Jr., 79, of Troy, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023. Born in Rockville Center, N.Y., he was a graduate of Seaford High School. John retired from the Enlarged City School District of Troy, where he had been the coordinator of mathematics, science and educational technology. He previously served as a math teacher at Troy High School and Mechanicville Middle School.

441 - John D. Gleason, 79, of Glenville passed away November 15, 2023. A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, he was a teacher in the Albany City School District in his youth. While he left that role for a prominent 28-year career with the New York State Office of General Services, he never left his roots as a mentor to everyone who knew him.

440 - Marie Elaine Marshall of Stillwater passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Born in Troy on March 10, 1945, Marie worked at Stillwater Central School for many years as a bus driver. After retirement she went back and worked in the copy room at the school.

439 - Marie Burnet, 89, passed away November 15, 2023 in Webster, NY. Marie pursued her nursing career working at Cobleskill and St Clair's Hospitals. While her children were young, she decided she would move to a career as a school nurse. She worked for the remainder of her career at Duanesburg Central High School as a School Nurse Teacher. Marie retired in 1991.

438 - Patricia Anne DeLucia Herrick, 77, of Halfmoon, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023. She was born in Passaic, NJ and graduated from Clifton High School. Patricia worked as an early intervention speech pathologist throughout the Capital Region for more than 30 years, including tenures with the Niskayuna Public School District and Helping Hands Nursery School in Clifton Park.

437 - Catherine "Cathy" Waters John, 85 of Ballston Lake, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. Cathy was a graduate of St. Patrick's School and Catholic Central High School, class of 1957, in Troy. After marrying, Cathy and her husband laid down roots in Clifton Park, where she lived for more than 50 years. She loved being around children and worked at Shenendehowa Central School District as a teacher's aide for many years.

436 - Grayce Susan Burian, 97, of Albany, died on November 16, 2023. Grayce was born in Boston, where she studied acting and performed in theatre productions. Grayce taught at Hudson Valley Community College and The College of Saint Rose. She established the theatre program at Schenectady Community College, where she taught and directed for over 20 years.

435 - Carol Boyd, 81, a 44 year resident of Delanson, died Tuesday November 14, 2023. She grew up in Queens and graduated from All Saints School for Girls. After graduation, Carol went to work as a secretary for Pfizer. Carol and her husband relocated their family to Delanson, in 1974, where Carol went to work for Duanesburg Central Schools in their payroll department.

434 - Harold Greene, 94, of Guilderland, died October 31, 2023. He was born in Franklin, Massachusetts, joined the Army after high school and served in Korea. He had a long career in teaching and school administration, retiring from the Albany City Public Schools. In their later years, Harold and his wife, Eva, were tireless advocates for union and senior causes. He served a long tenure as president of the Albany Public Schools Teachers Association. He was founder and president of the Albany teacher retiree chapter and an officer of New York State United Teachers Retiree Council 10 (NYSUT RC10). He was also a board member of New York Statewide Senior Action Council. He did so much for the students, teachers, retirees, and senior citizens of New York State.

433 - Louise Doriguzzi, 98, of Ballston Lake, passed away November 13, 2023. Louise was born on May 8, 1925, in Schenectady, NY and was a graduate of Draper High School. She worked at various locations, including G.E., Fragomeni Insurance, and finally working as the Cafeteria Assistant Manager in the BHBL Central School District.

432 - Patricia A. McVeigh, 79, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on November 12, 2023. She was born on September 24, 1944, in Buffalo, and began her career as an elementary school teacher in Alexander, NY. After raising her children she spent two decades in Saratoga Springs, teaching various grades at St. Peter's, St. Clement's, and Dorothy Nolan Elementary School.

431 -  Marcia Louise Augusta, 88, of Rotterdam Junction, peacefully passed away on November 12, 2023. Born in Schenectady, she was a graduate of Draper High School. After her children grew up, she went  to work as a school secretary for the Schalmont Central School District at Woestina Elementary School.

429 - Dennis Patrick Kennedy, 74, of East Greenbush, passed away at his Florida residence on October 17, 2023. He was born on October 2, 1949, in Brooklyn. He was a printer by trade, but Dennis was most proud of his career as a bus driver with the East Greenbush School District.

428 - Teresa F. Campochiaro, 80, of Delmar, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 9, 1943, she had fond memories of her years working at First National Bank of Scotia. She also taught religious education classes and ran a continuing education program at Scotia-Glenville High School for several years.

427 - Dorothy J. Austin, 105, of Schenectady, died November 10, 2023. Born June 17, 1918, in White Creek, NY, she was raised in Schenectady, NY, where she developed her passion for learning. For many years she was a homeschool teacher as well as an educator at both White Creek, NY and the Schenectady City School District.

426 - Catharine Parry McHugh, 81 of Westminster and Rosedale, Bradenton, FL, passed away on November 5, 2023, in Vero Beach, FL. Cathie grew up in Albany and attended the Albany Academy for Girls. She worked as an occupational therapist for BOCES and the Burnt Hills School District, helping children with disabilities to have the best life possible.

425 - Rosemary Stauble Brown, 88, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023. Born in 1935 in Ruby, N.Y., she graduated from Vincentian Institute. Rosemary began her teaching career at Guilderland Middle/High School. After taking time to raise her children, she worked as a guidance counselor at Catholic Central High School.

424 - Laura J. (Kane) Edgeworth, 85, of Boynton Beach, Florida, died Sunday, November 5, 2023. Laura was born in Yonkers and graduated from the former Roeliff Jansen Central School in Hillsdale. Laura devoted much of her working life to helping children with learning disabilities at St. Catherine's Center for Children in Albany and later at Wassaic State School in Wassaic, N.Y. where she was employed for more than 20 years before retiring as a supervisor.

423 - Jane Ellen (Atkinson) Hallfors, 77, of Linden Ponds, Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Born in 1946 in Schenectady, NY, she graduated from Schenectady High School in 1964. Jane was a reading and English teacher at Yates Elementary School in the Schenectady City School District for 32 years.

422 - Richard J. McGuire, 96, of Sarasota, Florida, died October 27, 2023. Richard graduated from Johnstown High School in 1945. He taught in Canajoharie, in Rotterdam at the former Draper High School, and, finally, in Scotia. In the late 60s he gave up teaching and coaching to take the post of vice principal and soon became principal, serving in that capacity until retiring in 1991 from Scotia. Later, he served as an interim administrator in several area school districts.

420 - Robert J. McCarthy, 72, of Stillwater, died November 5, 2023. Born on February 10, 1951, he was a 1969 graduate of Glens Falls High School. He enjoyed a 36-year career as a school teacher for the Hoosic Valley School District. He taught many grade levels, ending his career with kindergarten students. Bob was also a JV basketball and baseball coach for the district.

419 - Patricia "Pat" Kirwin Miller, 93, of Albany, died Thursday, October 26, 2023. Born in Albany on June 2, 1930, she was educated in parochial schools. She was employed by the New York Telephone Company and received many well-deserved promotions over the years. She retired from the Albany School District, where she worked in the Albany High School Library.

418 -  James E. (Jim) Fahy, 85, of East Herkimer, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. A teacher and chair of Ilion High School’s English Department, he taught 9th and 12th grade English, created a “Great Ideas” course for college-bound students, and in his later years, a sign language course. He also coached bowling, tennis, and baseball. After 33 years, Jim retired from Ilion, but continued to teach sign language courses.

417 - Rick McCabe, 76, of East Greenbush, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. Rick was a lifelong resident of East Greenbush, graduating from Columbia High School. Rick was a dedicated teacher and coach for 34 years at Rensselaer Junior/Senior High School. He was a proud coach of baseball, women's basketball, and girls' softball.

416 - Francia (Gott) McCashion of Colonie passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023. Born on October 12, 1937, in Albany, Fran grew up in Voorheesville. She attended Voorheesville Central High School. Fran was a substitute teacher and tutor for the South Colonie Central School District, where she taught for nearly 50 years. She and her husband shared a passion for history; she was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, the theater and music, was civic-minded, and very involved in her community and church.

Born and educated in Springfield, VT, she worked as a claims representative for Allstate Insurance in Latham for 21 years until retiring in 1996. Prior to that, she had been employed at Waterford Halfmoon School and worked for the Telephone Co.

414 - Arlene V. Matera, 92, of Albany, passed away on October 29, 2023. She was born in Albany on July 5, 1931. Arlene loved music and dancing and bus trips to the casino with her husband. 413 - Mark Carignan, born in 1943, passed away at his home in Rensselaer, on October 26, 2023. A man of many trades, Mark was a retired bus mechanic of 20-plus years at Schalmont Central School District and had also been working at Dave Hunt's Auto for the last 38 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1961-1964.

412 - Ellen Mary Celentano, 94, of Schenectady, died Thursday, October 26, 2023. She was born on January 4, 1929 in Waterbury, Connecticut, and attended Waterbury Catholic High School. Ellen and her husband settled in Schenectady where Ellen was employed as an Executive Assistant at Niskayuna High School, eventually working as the secretary to the high school principal for many years.

411 - Elizabeth (Betty) J. Vielkind, 99, of Amsterdam, died October 26, 2023. Betty was born in Oneonta and attended Oneonta schools. During World War II, she taught at Hamilton School in Schenectady and then returned to Oneonta State to complete her BS and MS degrees in elementary education. She had a long career, teaching kindergarten at the former St. Columba's and Immaculate Conception schools in Schenectady.

410 - Steven G. Alix, 67 of Cohoes, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Born in Troy, Steve attended Shaker High School. He dedicated thirty-eight years to the North Colonie School District, ending his tenure as a facilities maintenance mechanic. Steve was a prior president and a lifetime member of the Boght Community Fire District with twenty-five years of active service.

409 - Barbara Alice Benware of Glenmont passed October 24, 2023. Barbara was born February 1, 1945, in Saranac Lake. She was active in helping students earn their high school equivalency degree (GED). These students were often drop-outs from the Albany School system, and, with Barbara's gifted tutelage, she helped them on with their lives. After her retirement from the Albany School District, Barbara was active for many years in an after-school reading program, Two Together, in the South End of Albany.

408 - Kathleen M. Tivnan, 98, of Lansingburgh, passed away October 26, 2023. Kathleen was born in Wellesley, Mass. on May 24, 1925, and grew up in Cochituate (Wayland), Massachusetts. After teaching briefly in Quincy, Mass., Kathleen moved to Troy in 1950, where she taught fifth and sixth-grade social studies and science for over 30 years, until her retirement in the early 1980s.

407 - Carole J. Egan, 81, of Watervliet, entered into eternal life on October 26, 2023. Born and raised in Albany, she was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School. She taught grades Kindergarten through sixth in Troy and South Colonie at Forest Park Elementary School, from which she retired. In retirement, she was a tutor for Literacy Volunteers, working with students from Guyana, Bangladesh, and China.

406 - Robert D. "Prof" Nevin, 87, of Clifton Park, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. Robert was born on February 16, 1936, in Ithaca. When he was a young child, Robert's family moved to Plattsburgh, where he spent his childhood. Robert spent a long and rewarding career as an industrial arts and shop teacher at Shenendehowa High School, where he taught for over 38 years.

405 - Suzanne Lee Despart-Ellsworth, 66, of Rensselaer, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023. Suzanne was born in Albany and was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute in Albany. Suzanne began her professional career at the New York State Consumer Protection Board and for a short time, she owned her own art gallery in Connecticut. She was also a professor at a local community college.

404 - Elizabeth "Beth" O’Reilly entered into eternal peace on Friday October 13, 2023. She was born on August 12, 1952 in Troy. Beth was a teacher at the Rensselaer County Jail (RCJ), served as a hostess at the Barley Neck Restaurant on Cape Cod and ran her own seafood business. Later, Beth moved to Virginia and taught at Mathews School District.

403 - Donald F. Arnold, Sr., of Colonie, passed from this life Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the age of 79. Don grew up in Rochester and was a 1962 graduate of Franklin High School. Co., Filene's, Macy's, Campbell Plastics, Walmart, Target, and Schalmont School Transportation.

400 - Ann Sipher (nee Moissinac), 89, of Slingerlands, died on October 23, 2023. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1952. Ann started her teaching career in Williamson, N.Y. Later she was a teacher and librarian at a variety of schools in New York, including SUNY Cortland, Liverpool, Truxton, McGraw, Cortland (Randall and Pomeroy Schools), Arbor Hill, and the Albany School of Humanities.

399 - Christine Patrick, 75, died in Brunswick, Maine on October 16, 2023. She attended Schoharie Central School, graduating in 1966. She began her first teaching job, elementary vocal music teacher, at Draper School in Rotterdam in 1970. After raising her children, Christine returned to teaching in 1985 when she accepted the elementary vocal music teaching position for Pine Grove, Mariaville and Woestina Elementary Schools in the Schalmont School District.

398 - Marjorie A. (Cushing) Finn, 85, of Latham, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. Marjorie was raised in Watervliet and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. She was employed as a secretary for N.Y.S. Workers Compensation for over 24 years before retiring in 1994. She also was employed at the Watervliet High School cafeteria for a few years while raising her children.

397 - Carlton Paul Eno, 82 of Castleton, died October 21, 2023. He graduated from Cato-Meridian High School in 1958 and worked briefly for the Davey Tree Company. Carl spent his entire career at Columbia High School in East Greenbush, teaching math and computer programming, coaching the golf team, and serving as treasurer of the East Greenbush Teachers' Association.

396 - Frances Mathes, 75, passed away October 10, 2023, in Scotia, NY. After graduating from high school, Frances continued her education at Duchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. In her earlier years, she worked at a bank before her career in education. As a teacher’s assistant, Frances devoted many years to shaping young minds and being an advocate for education.

395 - Norman Reynold Swanson, 89, of Slingerlands, passed into eternal life on October 12, 2023. Norman graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in New Jersey in 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy in January 1954, doing surveying work in the Caribbean, work that would help to retrieve NASA astronauts. Norman taught high school mathematics, spending a year in Middleburgh, N.Y., and three years in Berne. Dr. Swanson was a professor of mathematics at Hudson Valley Community College for 27 years, retiring in 1993.

394 - Doris "Dottie" Quick, 89, of Saratoga Springs, passed away October 12, 2023. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York and was a 1951 graduate of Milne High School in Albany. Dottie spent her professional career working in the Schenectady and Burnt Hills school districts as a teacher, beloved by many of her students. She also worked at Union College in the MAT (Master's of Arts in Teaching) department. In retirement, Dr. Quick worked part-time for the International Center for Leadership in Education.

393 - Dorothy (Dot) Elizabeth Glotfelty Quaintance, 84, of Liberty, New York, passed away October 1, 2023. Born in Accident, Maryland, she attended Northern Garrett County High School. She founded the Border Servant Corps in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and after retiring from Niskayuna Central School District in New York, became a beloved caregiver to grandchildren.

392 - Agnes D. "Nana" (Callahan) Ryan, 92, of Schaghticoke, passed away October 14, 2023. She grew up in Mechanicville and graduated from Catholic High, class of 1949. She started her switchboard career with New York Telephone in Mechanicville. Over the years, she worked as a part-time switchboard operator for St. Mary's Hospital, was a substitute teacher at Hoosic Valley Central Schools, and was part of the Hoosic Valley Fire Department phone tree.

391 - Robert F. Basch, 91 of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Naval Reserve from 1950-1954 and, again, in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He worked in human relations and as a cafeteria manager at IBM in East Fishkill for 36 years, before his retirement in 1990. He worked with the Arlington High School Marching Band crew for seven years.

390 - Helen (Dyer) Richmond, 97 of Latham, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023. She retired from the North Colonie School District in 1990, after many years as an elementary school teacher. She is most remembered for teaching third grade at Blue Creek School and a highlight in retirement was attending luncheons with the retired "Blue Creekers."

389 - Barbara Anne (Cresswell) Markey passed away on October 8, 2023. Barbara was born on November 26, 1931 in Utica, New York. She began her teaching career at Horace Mann Elementary School in Schenectady. After her children were all of school age, Barbara returned to teaching as a remedial reading teacher at Schoharie Central School. Barbara later worked as the manager for the Union College faculty and staff childcare center.

388 - Karen Bisceglia, 74, of Troy, passed away October 9, 2023. She was born on September 24, 1949, in Troy and graduated from Catholic Central High School, She became an elementary school teacher at Wynantskill Union Free School District right out of college and taught fourth, first, and third grades for over 30 years before retiring in 2007. Every student of hers felt as though they were her favorite.

387 - Sheila Doyle, 87, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023. Sheila was born on May 1, 1936, in Schenectady, NY, and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School. She spent her long and rewarding career as a teacher with the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District. Sheila started at the O'Rourke Middle School, moving to the high school, and then to Steven's Elementary School with Special Education, from which position she retired.

386 - Edward J. Dempsey, 95, passed away on October 8, 2023. He was a native of Schenectady, NY and a 1946 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. His first teaching job was at the Vernon-Verona-Sherill School District where he taught math, social studies, and coached football. In 1953 he joined the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District  as a sixth-grade teacher, PE teacher and football coach. He retired from BH-BL in 1988.

385 - George "Randy" Bowman, 85, passed away Monday, October 10, 2023. Born on August 19, 1938, in Gloversville, NY, he attended the Greater Johnstown School District and graduated in 1957. George served as head coach at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. FMCC wrestling would eventually fold because of programs cuts. George went on to be a very successful coach in the Amsterdam High School wrestling program.

383 - Marianne M. Gauch Lamborne, 74, of Canton, Michigan and Averill Park, died Saturday, October 7, 2023. Born in Troy, she was a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. Marianne loved her calling as a teacher in the Garden City School District in Garden City, Michigan. Her impact as a teacher was felt by many families through over 20 years in education until her retirement in 2010.

382 - Sigrid Braaten, 100, of Cohoes, passed away October 7, 2023. She was born on April 19, 1923, in Brooklyn to a tugboat captain and his wife. Sigrid was a talented and inspiring elementary school teacher, spending most of her career teaching second and third-grade students at New Hyde Park Road School in New Hyde Park, N.Y. She retired after teaching there for 19 years and then moved to Glenmont.

381 - Robert F. "Mack" Mac Kercher, 92, of Troy, died Sunday, October 8, 2023. Born in Troy, he was a graduate of Troy Public School 5 and Troy High School. Mack was a medic in the Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Alleghany Ludlum Steel in Menands for many years. He was also a janitor at Troy High School and School 16, from which he retired.

380 - Sandra M. Sobieski, 77, died October 5, 2023. Born in Schenectady she graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. She accepted a position with the N.Y.S. Police, leaving to begin a family. After the children were older she began a position as a Teacher Aid at the Schalmont Central School District, retiring after 20 years.

379 - Eleanor Bowman, 91, of Guilderland passed away Friday, October 6, 2023. She was born on May 20, 1932, in Schenectady. Eleanor taught at Shaker Road Elementary School in the South Colonie Central School District until her retirement. As a retiree, she enjoyed traveling.

378 - Theresa "Terry" P. Doyle, 86, of Slingerlands, passed away on October 3, 2023. She was born in County Galway, Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. permanently in 1950 when she went from being a student at the Loretta Abbey boarding school in Dublin to a rural high school in Cobleskill, N.Y. She taught elementary school in the city of Albany at three different schools - her most rewarding time, teaching at School 9, where she felt there was the most need.

377 - Cinda O'Brien, 54, of Albany, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Professionally, Cinda was a teacher for nearly 18 years at Duanesburg Central School, retiring in 2013. For 17 of those years, she singularly focused on reading instruction. Cinda took great pride in helping lead many initiatives, including Early Literacy Profile, Foundations, securing several grants, and making sure all her student's needs were met with the best instructional practices.

376 - Constance A. (Film) Phillips, 77, of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Born in Troy, she was a 1963 graduate of Heatly High School. Connie had retired from the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office after over 20 years of service. Earlier in her career, she was employed by the Brittonkill Central School District. She was a foster mother for many children and countless others who called her "mom."

375 - John Valentino, 80, of Clifton Park, died September 29, 2023. He was born in Beacon, NY, on July 11, 1943 and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Newburgh, NY. Having taught for 29 years in the Wappingers Central School District, John was an integral member of the district's foreign language department as well as teaching business law. He was a linguist in several languages including French, Italian, German, Russian, and Chinese. John eventually taught Italian and accounting at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.

374 - Patricia S. Alexander, 85, of Churchville, NY, died September 29, 2023. After college, she received a Master of Music Degree in Voice Performance, and she began a career as a public school music educator. Ultimately, she joined the faculty of the Eastman School of Music Community Education Division; and for 25 years up to the present, she taught voice and choir to students ranging from teenagers to septuagenarians.

373 - Richard A. Hajeck, 80, of Queensbury, and formerly of Town of Day and New Bern, NC, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023. He was born in Troy and graduated from Waterford High School. He first was an Instrumental Music Teacher for Fort Edward School District, and WSWHE BOCES in Minerva, Pottersville and Chestertown. He then enjoyed working as a custom builder. Finally, Richard served as an Executive for Akwesasne District, Mohican Council, Boy Scouts of America.

372 - RoseAnn Hannan, 76, of Hudson, Massachusetts, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023. Rosie was born January 21, 1947, in Albany. She worked as a dental hygienist for many years, initially in the school system of the Chazy/Lyon Mountain area in Plattsburg, then Albany. She retired from the dental field with Periodontal Associates of Framingham.

371 - Carol Schulze, 78 of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on September 20, 2023. She was born on January 29, 1945, in Albany. Carol attended Columbia High School in East Greenbush and later pursued a career as a teacher's aide in the East Greenbush Central School District.

370 -  Jane (Leonard) Hilson, 77, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away September 20, 2023. Jane was born in Saginaw, Michigan on January 11, 1946. After moving to the state of New York in 1969, she began her career as an elementary school teacher and proceeded to teach for 33 years in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central school system until she retired in 2002.

369 - Nusia K. Dandaraw, 81, of Providence, NY, passed away September 29, 2023. Nusia was born Kum Cha Yun on March 11, 1942, in Seoul, Korea. Nusia had a total love for Music and went on to become an accomplished piano and voice teacher. For years, she taught as a substitute Music teacher in many of the Schools in Saratoga County. She was also a private piano and voice teacher to many Saratoga County children.

368 - James “Jimmy” L. Carl, 82, of the Town of Oppenheim, passed away September 26, 2023. He was born in Dysart, PA and was educated at White Plains High School, class of 1958. On August 27, 1962, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army where he earned the rank of SP5(T)/E-5 and the Expert Rifle and Good Conduct Medal. He was formerly employed with Bedford Central Schools in northern Westchester County and was the head of maintenance for 30 years until his retirement in 2004.

367 - Diane (Abrahams) Alkes, 78, of Queensbury, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Born on November 18, 1944, in Glens Falls, she graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1962. Diane taught high school French at Hartford Central School from 1966 -1980. Diane then changed paths and began her role of Owner and Operator of Lake George Novelty Co., Inc. until her retirement in 2011.

366 - Nancy K. Watts, 82, of Corinth, New York passed away September 18, 2023. Born on March 25, 1941, in Corinth, Nancy was a graduate of Corinth High School. Nancy taught at Corinth Central Schools for 34 years and had many fond memories of her years there.

365 - Alfred Eugene "Gene" Falcone, 90, of Niskayuna, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023. Gene was born in Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. In 1954, he entered the Army. Gene who played both saxophone
and clarinet, was assigned to the West Point Band. After obtaining a bachelor's degree, Gene began teaching music in the South Colonie School District, where he taught for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a long-time band director for Colonie Central Schools and the Colonie Fire Dept. Marching Band. While still in high school, he performed with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and resumed playing with the orchestra after college.

364 - Jhan Ellen Forbes Phillips, 79 passed away September 22, 2023. Jhan was a 1962 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School. After college Jhan began working with students with special needs. She started her career with ARC and eventually was hired by the Greater Amsterdam School District. There she began her 30+ year journey as a devoted teacher of special education.

363 - Harold B. Grippin, 93, long-time resident of East Berne, passed away September 21, 2023. Born in Binghamton, N.Y. on February 18, 1930, he graduated from C. A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville and went on to serve his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. Harold drove bus for Bethlehem Central School District and retired to spend time with his family and tend to his farm.

362 - Connie Sue (Germain) Tvede of Angier, NC passed away September 19, 2023. Connie was born in Thurman, NY on April 27, 1953. Connie worked for the Glens Falls City School District for 30 years. She was a Receptionist at Sanford Street Elementary School until it closed in 2011. She retired from Jackson Heights Elementary School in 2015 then relocated to North Carolina.

361 - Charles Henry Schmidt, 93, of Glens Falls, died September 20, 2023. He was born August 31, 1930 in Glendale, NY. He retired from Warrensburg Central School District after 25 years of dedicated service. Charlie enjoyed his walks, fishing, and long car rides.

360 - Shirley J. Dykstra, 95, a lifelong resident of Westmoreland, passed away on September 18, 2023. She was born in Utica, NY and was educated in the Westmoreland School District. Following graduation, Shirley had a successful career as a teacher's aide and cafeteria aide at Westmoreland Central School, where she devoted 26 loyal years and aided in the education of many students.

359 - Arthur Leroy Blymiller Jr. (Art, Leroy, Bly), 70, of Clinton, NY, passed away on September 16, 2023. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Rome, NY. Art attended Rome Free Academy. He worked as a school psychologist for over 35 years, many of which were at Hamilton Central School.

358 -  John A. Rando, 80, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2023. Born on December 4, 1942, John spent his childhood in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. John’s career was spent in its entirety with the Herkimer Central School District where he taught in the Math Department for over thirty years until his retirement.

357 - Gina Pellettiere, 43, died September 21, 2023 in a traffic accident on a Farmingdale High School band trip. She was the Director of Bands at Farmingdale High School. On the field Ms. Pellettiere was the director of one of Long Island’s largest marching bands. The community’s pride, the Farmingdale Marching Band and Dalerettes are over 300 members strong.

356 - Beatrice Ferrari of Farmingdale died September 21, 2023 in a traffic accident while chaperoning a Farmingdale High School band trip. Beatrice who was 77 and had been retired for 17 years, continued to volunteer as a chaperone at band camp.  She was a global studies teacher for 36 years; 32 in the Farmingdale School District. Many of her past students attribute their success in life to her influence as a teacher.

355 - Carol A. Stefanik Hickey, 87, of North Greenbush, passed away September 21, 2023. She resided most of her life in the Albany area until her move to Castleton 10 years ago. Carol was employed by the City School District of Albany for over 25 years, as a keyboard operator. She loved to travel, the Holidays, the beach, spending time with friends, and most of all family.

354 - Kasmira (Kay) Anthony, 100, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, she worked at the General Electric Company and at the American Locomotive Company. Following the birth of her son, Kay was employed at the Niskayuna Central Schools as secretary to the business administrator for her remaining career, retiring in 1989 after 25 years of service. Kay was a member of the Pearl Predel All Girl Orchestra, playing saxophone and violin and performing throughout New York State and the East Coast.

353 - Todd Douglas Thornton, 70, of Guilderland, NY, passed from this world to the next on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Todd was raised in Delmar, NY where he attended Bethlehem schools. He taught special education in a number of Capital District schools including Voorheesville, Capital Region BOCES, and Lisha Kill Middle School in South Colonie. His gentle, encouraging heart and sense of humor served his students with special needs well over the years.

352 - Irene Elizabeth Hayner Boynton of Halfmoon passed away September 13, 2023. Irene was born on the Hayner farm in Halfmoon on August 8, 1928 and graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1946. Once her children were in school Irene began work in the Shenendehowa Central School cafeteria, working her way to the bookkeeper for the program.

351 - Donald F. Lutzy, 75 of Newtonville, passed away on September 16, 2023Born on March 25, 1948, in Solvay, N.Y. music was Don's highest passion. Don graduated from Berkley School of Music and following graduation, he used his talents and gifts teaching jazz, band, and orchestra at Albany High School. He was a friend and mentor to many of his students.

350 - Carmela "Dolly" Servidone, 83, of East Greenbush, died Thursday morning, September 14, 2023. Dolly was born and raised in the Mont Pleasant area of Schenectady. After her high school graduation, she went on to work at the N.Y.S. Division for Youth for many years. Following her retirement, she worked for the East Greenbush Central School District.

349 - Shirley Feinroth Friedman, formerly of Loudonville and Los Angeles, Calif., passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, in Fountain Hills, Ariz. Shirley was born May 16, 1936 in Hazleton, PA. She earned a B.S. degree in education and taught kindergarten for several years. Shirley relocated to the Albany area in 1966 where she taught in the South Colonie Central School District until the mid 1970s.

348 - Dolores Fischer, 95, of Averill Park, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She was born in Tell City, Ind. and moved to this area after the end of World War II. She was an Avon representative for many years, worked for the N.Y.S. Department of Taxation and Finance, and in the lunchroom of the Averill Park schools, and served at St. Henry's Rectory for many years.

346 - Edna Dodds Haggerty, 91, passed away on September 3, 2023. She graduated from Albany High School in 1949 and later received her New York State Registered Nurse License. She worked in several area hospitals and doctor's offices until starting her family and returned to nursing in 1972 as a school nurse for the South Colonie School District where she worked for 15 1/2 years before retiring in 1988.

344 - Betty Jane Berner, 94, Of North Greenbush, died Sunday, September 10, 2023. Born in Troy, she attended Averill Park schools. Betty was an engraver for 10 years on the sixth floor for the former Montgomery Wards in Menands, and later was a bus driver for the Averill Park School District for 25 years.

343 - Cynthia Howell Battiste, 67, passed away on September 8, 2023. Cindy was a 1974 graduate of Niskayuna High School. After college, she began a career in higher education administration at Bay Path Community College in Longmeadow, MA. In 1979, Cindy became the Associate Director of Alumni Affairs at Union College. When her youngest son began kindergarten, she began a 17-year career at Craig and Glencliff Elementary Schools in Niskayuna as a teacher's aide.

342 - Daniel J. Raymo, 81, of Duanesburg, New York died August 19, 2023. Dan was born in Massena, New York in 1942 and graduated from Norwood-Norfolk High School in 1960. 340 - Kathleen Flood Keegan was born in Albany on October 10, 1937, and passed September 3, 2023. She began her career as a registered nurse in the Pediatrics Department of St. Peter's Hospital before getting married and starting a family. When all of her five children were in school, she returned to the workforce, first in medical offices before a dedicated twenty-five-year career as a school nurse teacher in the Albany City School District.

338 - Richard F. Serapilio, 77, of Rotterdam, passed away Wednesday September 6, 2023. His 39-year career with the Schenectady City School District began in 1968 and ran until his retirement in 2007. During that time, he taught math, coached football, wrestling, and bowling, and was assistant principal for the math, science and technology house at Schenectady High School.

Lynch Middle School in Amsterdam and Amsterdam High School. He retired as Assistant Principal of Lynch Middle School in 1994. He was a member of the Amsterdam Retired Teachers Association.

485 in 2022 - Frank Lisco, 79, of Pinehurst, NC, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was born October 29, 1943. Frank grew up in Fort Plain, NY. He went on to teach Math and coach at Lyons High School, in Lyons, NY, between Syracuse and Rochester, for 35 years. Frank coached at the JH, JV, Varsity levels, basketball for his daughter, and basketball and baseball for his son and many other students.

333 - Elinor (Ellie) Johnson Riter, 90, of Saratoga Springs, died Friday morning February 10, 2023. Born on October 2, 1932 in Saratoga Springs, she was a 1950 graduate of the former St. Peter's Academy on Broadway. From 1955 to 1960, Elinor taught at Schuylerville High School and later in the Saratoga Springs City School District from 1962 until retiring in 1990.

332 - Kathleen Kissane Benedict, 74, passed away July 22, 2023 in Port Charlotte, FL. Kathy grew up in Albany, NY. After high school, Kathy worked for New York State in various departments. After working for the state, Kathy moved to Herkimer, NY where she taught high school English until her retirement in 2007.

331 - Emily N. McPherson, 88, of Central Square, NY passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023. She was born on August 1, 1934, and grew up on the family farm in East Herkimer, N.Y. Emily started her career in education teaching 1st and 2nd grades at Herkimer Elementary School. Emily later taught Adult Education classes for OCM BOCES.

He was employed as a choral teacher at East Syracuse Minoa Schools, the Education Director at Redhouse Arts Center, an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Heidelberg University, and, most recently, the Operations Manager at KJR Consulting.

329 - Edward Gorga, 91, of Galway passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Born in Rotterdam on September 12, 1931, he was the head of the Math Department at Galway Central High School where he taught math and science, retiring after 39 years. He was a dedicated teacher having taught generations of students in the Galway School district.

328 - Frank Phillips Palmer, Jr. 81, of Marysville, OH passed away on August 25, 2023. Frank became a Social Studies teacher and coach at Scotia Glenville High School where he taught for 31 years. He started the girls volleyball program there and coached football for many years until he stopped coaching to spend more time with his family.

327 - Elizabeth "Liz" Williams Kelly, 78, of Cape Vincent, NY, passed away August 25, 2023.. She was head of the Art Department of the Utica Public School District where she taught art at schools throughout the district for many years. For a period during that time, she served as an official in the Utica Teachers' Association. While in Utica, Liz enjoyed an appointment at Munson (formerly Munson Williams Proctor Institute). Liz was an accomplished watercolor artist with a keen eye for composition and design.

326 - Sandor Balogh of East Greenbush, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. He was born on April 25, 1931, in Kiskomarom, Hungary. After the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 began, Sandor voiced displeasure with the communist government. He and his wife were forced to flee Hungary and arrived in New York City on New Years Day 1957. He held several jobs prior to starting his career at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. He taught the Social Sciences from 1965-1992.

325 - Paul Jonathan Ruston, died on August 8, 2023. Paul lived in Kent, Washington (near Seattle) and was a beloved teacher and coach at nearby Thomas Jefferson High School. Born December 5, 1962, in Syracuse, N.Y., Paul was an accomplished cross country and track & field athlete, known for his work ethic. For eight years after college, Paul taught and coached cross country and track in Alaska and ran competitively with Team Alaska Track Club. In 2000, Paul began teaching photography and coaching at Thomas Jefferson High School.

322 - Henry A. Theiss, 78, of Claverack, died July 25, 2023. Hank taught Driver Education and Physical Education for the Hudson City School District. In 1972, he became the Hudson Bluehawks Varsity Basketball Coach, the position he held for the next 24 years.

Ellen began her career as a business teacher at Stillwater High School, and then Lansingburgh High School, Later in her career, Ellen went on to work in the insurance industry and then Fox News in Albany.

320 - Gordon Coleman Blank, 91, died Thursday, August 17 2023, in Raleigh, NC. After combat duty in the Far East on the USS Ampere during the Korean conflict, he taught at Garrison Jr. High School in Baltimore. Subsequently, he taught at Indiana University, served as president of Western Piedmont Community College in North Carolina, and lastly, was president of SUNY Adirondack in Glens Falls until his retirement in 1987.

319 - Stanley J. Ziobrowski, 87, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday August 22, 2023. He worked for 38 years years as the Transportation Supervisor at Mohonasen School District in Rotterdam. Stan was infected with the game of golf at the age of 6 and it was the central preoccupation of his life. One of his fondest memories was playing a 13 year old Jack Nicklaus when Stan was 16, The Golden Bear getting the better of him that day. Nicklaus even mentioned the round in his 1997 autobiography.

318 - Joan C. (Rose) Zubal, 80, of Scotia passed away August 24, 2023. Born on January 11, 1943 in Schenectady, NY, Joan was a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School (1961. After college, she began working for Schenectady County Department of Social Services. She took a hiatus from her career to focus on raising her children. Once her children were grown, Joan returned to work as a teacher's aide for B.O.C.E.S.

317 - Ruth E. Reinhardt Goerold, 99, of Troy, died Thursday, August 24, 2023. Born in Troy, she had resided in Troy all her life and summered on Burden Lake. 311 - Caroline DeFrees-Beglen, 81, of Chittenango, NY, died August 19, 2023. In 1965, during the "Golden Age of Flying," she began her glamorous career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. After retiring, she moved to Constableville, New York. Caroline worked as a teacher's aide from the early 1990's to the early 2000's in the South Lewis Central School District.

Marilyn grew up in Scotia and was a high school and middle school teacher both on Long Island and in Scotia during the early years of motherhood. 304 - Robert "Bob" Eugene Cross, 91, died August 17, 2023. After he graduated from Liberty, NY, High School in 1949, he served his country for four years in the Navy from 1949-1953. As a high school history teacher at Maple Hill High School in the Schodack School District for 27 years, he educated numerous students about the history and economics of our country, as well as world culture and specific U.S. cultural issues.

303 - Royce Douglas Ball, 81 of Quaker Springs, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023. Royce attended Potsdam College and became a high school math teacher at Schuylerville Central School, where he taught for his entire 32-year career. 292 - Scott R. Stacey, 66, of Albany passed away August 4, 2023. Scott was born in Glens Falls and was a gifted teacher and role model. As a professional musician, he played percussion with Albany Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years. Highlights of his music career included playing at Carnegie Hall and performing with professionals such as John Denver, Phyllis Diller, The Moody Blues, and Yes. He taught music and math in middle schools and high schools for most of his professional life. A challenging teacher at Averill Park High School, he pushed his students to do their best.

291 - Robert Lloyd "Doc" Murdoch, 85, of Corinth, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023. Born on June 12, 1938 in Cambridge, he taught one year in Ballston Spa before being drafted into the United States Army at the beginning of the Vietnam War. After serving two years active duty as a medic and a therapist in a psychiatric ward in Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii, Lloyd returned to teaching in Ballston Spa. Lloyd went back to school a few years later and earned a Ph.D in psychology. For the next 25 years he was a school psychologist for BOCES covering Corinth and Hadley-Luzerne, where he earned the moniker, "Doc."

290 - Ronald W. Duel, 92, of Granville, passed away July 19, 2023. Ron was born on October 27, 1930 in Granville, NY, and graduated from Granville High School. Ron enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1950 and was a proud Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in Search and Rescue. Ron worked in the farm/industry and automotive parts industry for many years and then went to work for the Granville Central School as a custodian until his retirement.

287 - Cornelius Joseph Foley, of Rensselaer, died July 30, 2023. Neil was born in 1939 in Richmond Hill, N.Y. and served aboard the Navy's first nuclear-powered surface ship. He was a social studies teacher in the Lynbrook (NY) Public Schools, worked for Erie 1 BOCES, worked for the NYS Assembly Ways and Means Committee, served as deputy secretary to the governor for education, local government, and the arts, served as president of the NYS Higher Education Services Corporation, worked for SUNY Central Administration, and worked 15 years at NYSUT.

286 - Mary C. Tesiero, 87, of East Greenbush, passed away on August 4, 2023. Born on October 29, 1935, in Amsterdam, N.Y., she taught at West Irondequoit in Rochester and at Bradt Elementary School in the Mohonasen School District. After having her children, she was hired by local Ben and Jerry's stores to paint the cow murals and menu boards, which blossomed into other area business signs as well. When her children grew older, she returned to the classroom as a teacher's assistant for Castleton Kids.

285 - Samuel Martino Jr., 76, of Colonie, died August 3, 2023. Sam was born on August 27, 1946, and following high school graduation, proudly served in the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Sam was quite the entrepreneur, operating his own laser printer remanufacturing company in Rensselaer. He sold his successful business and moved on to a career that he truly enjoyed, driving school bus for the South Colonie school district for many years until he retired.

284 - Marjorie Ellen Baker, 73, of Hartford, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023. She was born on August 22, 1949 and worked at Sheridan Catheter in Argyle for 19 years. She most recently worked as a cafeteria worker at the Hartford Central School for 10 years until her retirement in 2015. Marge enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at her feeders, word search puzzles and visiting with her neighbors.

283 - Lorraine K. Viskne, 92, of Schenectady, passed away July, 31, 2023. Lorraine was a very vibrant loving woman. She loved talking to people and would go to Saratoga every weekend and either sit on a bench in the village or go to the casino, not to gamble, but to just sit and talk with all the elderly people. Lorraine worked for General Electric Building 2 in the Canteen. Upon retiring from GE, she went to work in the cafeteria at Mohonasen School.

278 - Constance O'Brien, 78 of East Greenbush and Englewood, Fla., passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Connie was born in Bridgeport, Conn. Connie had a special gift with children: she was a trained Montessori teacher who started her career at the Montessori School at Kenwood Academy and went on to become an elementary teacher in the East Greenbush School District, from which she retired after 21 years.

After 5 years, he decided to take a position as monitor at the Shenendehowa Central School District, a job that held a special place in Bob's heart. 271 - Prudence "Prudy" Clemishire Ciaccio, 98, of Syracuse, passed away July 23, 2023. Purdy was born on June 18, 1925, in Albany and grew up there. Prudy and her husband briefly lived and taught in Camden, N.Y., but after only a short time, returned to the Albany area when her husband accepted a teaching position at Altamont High School. Prudy was a busy substitute teacher in the Guilderland elementary schools when her children were young. After they were grown, she returned to full-time teaching at the Hebrew Academy, where she stayed until her retirement in 1983.

270 - Sister Helen Palermo (Sister Anna Zita), CSJ, died on July 11, 2023 at the age of 97 in the 77th year of her religious life. After 39 years on the grade school level, Sister Helen brought her talents to the BOCES Learning Center in Syracuse. In her unassuming way, Sister Helen approached each adult with the question "What do you wish to accomplish and how can I assist you to do this?" The results were impressive. For the next 17 years Sister Helen instructed adults in word processing, mathematics and literacy. Her students were awarded GEDs, higher pay and greater self esteem. Sister believed that each student could learn but not necessarily in the same way.

269 - Joseph H. Brautman of Lewiston, NY died July 23, 2023. Joe dedicated 30 years of his life to serving at Lewiston Fire Company No. 1, alongside his career as an English teacher. 268 - Susan Ballard passed away July 23, 2023 in her Fayetteville home at the age of 84. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, she spent most of her life in the local communities of DeWitt, Manlius and Fayetteville. Susan was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Syracuse University ('60), where she earned a degree in music. Her career as a music teacher would begin in White Plains, New York, before leading her back to her home town of DeWitt, where she continued teaching music at Genesee Hills Elementary School.

She also worked for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in the Capital Area and was an assistant park ranger at the town park in the Town of Colonie.

266 - William M. Behan, 81 of Troy, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Born in Troy, Bill graduated from Troy High School and accounting school in Odgensburg, and retired from Hudson Valley Community College as a senior accountant. He served our country in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus, and an advocate for the homeless in the City of Troy.

265 - Phillip "Coach" Gordon, 89, passed away Sunday morning, July 23, 2023. Born on November 6, 1933 in Syracuse, he was a life resident of Syracuse, and Chittenango. He taught physical education at Chittenango High School from 1958 to 1995 and coached just about every sport. He was the varsity basketball coach at Chittenengo HS for 38 years. During his career he earned many awards, but the highlight was when he was inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame; and the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.

263 - William Michael Pollak, 87, of Johnstown, died on July 15, 2023. After soaking up a successful high school experience, he went to St. Lawrence University for 1 year before enlisting and serving 2 years in the US Army. After finishing college, Bill taught high school social studies in Cobleskill for 4 years and then relocated back to Johnstown in 1964, starting his 32-year teaching career at Johnstown High School. His passion was empowering students to step up, speak up, give, do, get involved and generally, "make an impact". Bill served 18 years as the JHS Social Studies department chair.

262 - Bernard "Bernie" Kuczek, 91, of Scotia, passed into the Lord's hands July 19, 2023. Bernie was born on June 10, 1932 in Amsterdam, NY and served in the Armed forces. He served in the Korean War as a M.P. in the 408th military govt. Bernie was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and remembers while working out he sat alongside Jackie Robinson in the dugout. He taught Biology and Chemistry at Scotia – Glenville High School and was a "highly respected" baseball coach.

260 - Margaret Anne (née Hale) Gilroy, 89 of Loudonville, and formerly of County Sligo, Ireland, passed peacefully into eternal life July 18, 2023. Maggie worked at the Fort Orange Club, Wolferts Roost, and later for South Colonie Central Schools. She enjoyed traveling home to Ireland and did so nearly every year to visit family.

259 - Hercules John Diveris, "Herk," 94, of Albany, passed away on July 17, 2023. During the Korean War, Herk volunteered to serve his country and was deployed to Japan as an air traffic controlman. Herk pursued a career in education and taught various levels of high school math across several school districts. Eventually, he accepted a position with the New York State Department of Corrections, where he served as the superintendent of Math Educational Programs for the state prison system until his retirement.

Louise drove a school bus for Chatham School District for 30 years. Everyday was not just about going to work, she loved her bus routes, the kids and the parents. She especially loved the crew she worked with and many of them became good friends outside of work.

255 - Cathryne (Katy) Hardesty Sivers, age 103, died on July 6, 2023. She grew up in the beauty and grace that surrounded the Blue Ridge Mountains and West Virginia. Katy graduated from Wesleyan College prior to continuing her education at Syracuse University, earning her Doctorate in Educational Psychology. Katy had a passion for teaching and was a Professor of both Ed Psych and Statistics at the State University of New York at Albany.

254 - Sarah "Sally" Anne Vinick Gay, 82, of Randolph, N.J., formerly of Burnt Hills, Clifton Park and Clermont Fla., passed away July 11, 2023. Born in Schenectady, Sally graduated from SUNY Oneonta and Russell Sage College. Over her 30-year career in education, Sally taught 4th grade in the Scotia-Glenville schools and 4th through 6th grades in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District. She was secretary of the school council for several years and served on many academic committees.

253 - Patricia Ann Kudlich, 84, of Cohoes, passed away July 10, 2023. Born on August 7, 1938, in Buffalo, she grew up in Tarrytown, N.Y. Patricia attended SUNY Brockport, earning her BS and later her MS from Columbia University, and began working as a dedicated, adaptive physical education teacher. She was employed by Croton-on-Hudson Schools for 25 years until retiring in 1991. Patricia also spent time teaching water aerobics at her YMCA in Troy.

252 - William J. Kopczynski, 61, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023. A lifelong resident of Schenectady, he was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1981. Bill enjoyed a long career as a diesel mechanic with Northland Transportation in Scotia, ensuring that school buses were in top operating condition to safely transport countless children to and from school. He retired in 2012 after more than 20 years of employment. In his free time, Bill enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR.

251 - Charles Golding, 88, of Selkirk, passed away July 6, 2023. Charles graduated from Worcester Central School in 1953. He then entered the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1956. Charles worked at North American Cement in Howes Cave and at Blue Circle Cement (now LaFarge), retiring in 1997. He then drove a school bus for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District for 14 years.

Janet dedicated her life to education, serving as a school teacher for an admirable span of 40 years starting at Randolph, MA Public Schools, then in the Fabius-Pompey, NY, School District and finally rounding out the last half of her career in the Homer, NY Central Schools teaching both Special Education and 5th Grade.

Pam graduated from Corinth High School in 1964, and from SUNY Buffalo in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Pam was employed as an elementary school teacher at Corinth Elementary School for 42 years until her retirement. She loved being a teacher and enjoyed running the elementary school play and was active during Flag Day at the school.

248 - Richard Joseph Joyce, 75, of Rochester, MN, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023. Richard was born on July 20, 1947, in Oswego, NY. Richard received a diploma of French Civilization Studies from the Universite de Paris College de la Sorbonne in Paris, France, and earned additional degrees from the State University at Oswego, Albany, and Plattsburgh. From 1970 to 1999, Richard was a French teacher for the Queensbury School District. In 1999, he transitioned to the role of Guidance Counselor at Queensbury High School until his retirement in 2003.

247 - On June 29, 2023, Merrill Thomas McColl passed away peacefully at home. Born September 17, 1935, he grew up in Troy, NY. Merrill majored in Pre Med at Georgetown University, graduating in 1957. He later earned a Masters in Education from the University of North Carolina. In 1959 Merrill joined the faculty at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Senior High School. For the next 32 years he would educate thousands of students as a Biology and Health Education teacher.

Barbara graduated from Salem Washington Academy and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Plattsburgh State Teacher's College. Barbara was a Kindergarten Teacher at Shenendehowa Central School District, retiring in 1991 after 25 years. She was a talented musician and played the piano and drums.

244 - Evelyn H. James, 98 of Rensselaer and formerly of Copake, passed away June 28, 2023. She was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen Central School located near Hillsdale New York. The school later became a part of the Taconic Hills School District. where she would work some years later in the cafeteria. Her chocolate cake was almost famous and requested by many friends and family over the years.

Sandy drove school bus for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District from 1962 until 1985. Bus No. 9 was her first bus number. She also worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in the Glenville office from 1978 to 2023.

242 - Donna L. Milks, 74 of Troy, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023. Born in Troy on May 27, 1949, Donna graduated from Tamarac High School in 1968 and Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) in 1994. She was an employee of HVCC for over 20 years serving as a Coordinator of Computer Services when she retired. After that she spent several years, between January and April, preparing taxes as a seasonal employee for H&R Block.

241 - Emily N. McPherson, 88, of Central Square, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Following her graduation from Herkimer High School, Utica College and SUNY Teachers College at Oneonta, Emily started her teaching career at Herkimer Elementary School. She left the classroom to raise her four children and volunteered in their many school and community activities. Emily later taught Adult Education classes for Onondaga - Cortland - Madison Counties BOCES.

239 - Paul Peter Ciciarelli, 83, died July 3, 2023, in Charlotte, NC. Raised in the Syracuse Valley Neighborhood, he graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. There, he joined ROTC and played football under legendary head coach Ben Schwartzwalder and alongside the great Ernie Davis. After serving as an active-duty Captain in U.S. Army Military Police, he went on to work for the Syracuse City School District as a longtime coach, teacher and administrator.

She graduated from Oneonta High School and went on to study music at the Crane School of Music at Potsdam State Teachers College. She earned an MS in Elementary Education at SUNY Oswego. She was the Vocal Music Director in the Bainbridge, NY Central School system before coming to Queensbury, where she taught first grade and Special Reading in the Queensbury School District.

236 - Carol Kobuskie, 81, of Troy, died on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Carol graduated from Gloversville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in education from SUNY Cortland and a Master of Science from SUNY Albany. Carol then became a teacher, eventually moved to Troy, and taught at the Troy City School District until she retired. In her free time, Carol could be found at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Tanglewood, and many other regional entertainment venues and retreats.

235 - Richard "Dick" Garland Sr., 85, of Mechanicville, died Friday evening, June 30, 2023. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, he was born on July 23, 1937. Dick was the head custodian for the Mechanicville Public School District for many years, retiring after 33 years of service. He later worked for Quick Response and the Mechanicville Golf Club (M.G.C.).

234 - Michael Francis Robich, 94, of Cohoes, passed away on June 29, 2023. Michael served in the New York National Guard and Army Reserves from 1948 to 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Science, and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Russell Sage College in Albany. Michael spent 42 years with the Cohoes Police Department, retiring from the force in 1993 after serving as chief for over 20 years. 233 - Janice Weir Krull, 90, of Franklin, Ind., died June 23, 2023. She was born November 17, 1932, in Hanover, Indiana. She received her master's degree from Indiana University in 1974. After college, she served as an elementary school teacher in Ind. and Ohio. Following her teaching career, she worked for the Indiana Department of Mental Health as a case manager. What linked her career choices was a concern for people, particularly people who faced unfair obstacles that often were beyond their control. Her passion for justice was keen.

232 - Judith E. Keehan, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. She was born in Salem, Ohio on March 20, 1941, and grew up in Cohoes, New York. Judith was a bus driver for the Ballston Spa Central School District for over forty years. She enjoyed the children on her bus route and drove many after school bus trips. Towards the end of her career, she drove for the special needs children and greatly enjoyed their company.

Born in Schenectady, she was a 1965 graduate of Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake High School and went on to continue her education at SUNY Oneonta. Christine was a dedicated elementary school teacher, retiring from the Schenectady City School System in 2002, after 31 years. Christine enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states, to walk each capital.

230 - Christine J. "Krysia" Cording, 71, of Ravena, passed away June 29, 2023. Krysia was born in London England and had lived in Ravena since 1984. Krysia earned her teaching degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany and taught fifth grade at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District until retirement. She loved reading, art, movies and quilting.

229 - Kathleen Casey, 82, passed away June 27, 2023. Kathleen grew up in Albany. Kathleen began her teaching career as a 1st grade teacher at Draper Elementary School in Rotterdam. However, after her first child was born, Kathleen dedicated herself to raising her family. When her children were older, Kathleen went on to have a long career in Insurance Underwriting, "Retiring" in 2003.

228 - Richard John DiBartolomeo, 76, of Guilderland, died June 28, 2023. Richard or "Mr. D" as he was known by his students at Albany High School and Hackett Middle School had a passion for education and teaching. He especially loved working with his Special Education students and seeing their development well beyond their years in his classroom. For 33 years Mr. D guided kids in the Albany City Schools to reach their greatest potential. Rich was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Born in Waterbury, CT, in 1952, she was a graduate of Skidmore College ('74), and received her master's degree in education from the University of Virginia ('76). She taught at Lake Avenue Elementary School in the Saratoga Springs School District, the University of Cape Coast in Ghana and spent three decades at Hudson Falls High School as a special education teacher.

226 - Maureen (Murray) McDermott, 69, of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023. She graduated from Albany School of Nursing and cum laude from The College of Saint Rose. She was employed at Saint Mary's Hospital in Troy in Med-Surg, P.C.U. and O.R., Child's Hospital O.R. in Albany, and as a surgical nurse in Albany for a decade. She pursued a second career as an English teacher in the Albany City School District for the next twenty years and retired from Albany High School.

225 - Robert F. McHugh, 88 of Newtonville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023. He taught in the history departments at the State University of New York at Albany and Hobart and William Smith Colleges. After his teaching career, Robert worked for many years for the State Department of Education's Office of College and University Evaluation, retiring shortly before his eightieth birthday. For much of his time at the State he was an active member of the Public Employees Federation, serving as a steward.

224 - Earl J. Retzlaff, 92, of Averill Park, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Born, raised, and educated in Troy, Earl was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He continued his education and received his master's degree in physical education from Ithaca College. Earl was a physical education teacher and an accomplished baseball coach with the Averill Park School District, retiring in 1985. Earl was recently inducted into the Averill Park Hall of Fame.

223 - Cheryl "Chery" Ann Camerota, 76, of Malta passed away Friday, June 16, 2023. She was born on May 18, 1947, in Schenectady. Chery was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, class of 1966. Chery had been a school teacher for over 25 years, retiring from the Ballston Spa Middle School as an English teacher. She enjoyed gardening, being with horses and spending much time at her parent's "Putnam Farm" in Clifton Park.

222 - Anthony J. Bifaro Jr., 79, of Clifton Park, passed away in the early hours of June 20, 2023. A 1963 graduate of Silver Creek Central School, he went on to SUNY Fredonia where he majored in Speech-English. Anthony taught English at Brocton Central School. While in Brocton, he directed the school plays and musicals. He became active in the teachers' unions which became NYSUT. He left the classroom to relocate to the Albany area to begin his career as assistant to the president of NYSUT. He stayed in that position until his retirement in 2009.

221 - Adelaide (Wasserman) Glazier, 89, of Albany, died June 21, 2023. Addie was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and SUNY Cortland, and loved being an elementary school teacher in the South Colonie School District until she retired. She was a member of Congregation Ohav Sholom, New York Retired Teachers Association, and United Order of True Sisters for 50 years, and a life member of Hadassah.

220 - Donald R. Thurston, 93, of Burnt Hills, died on June 5, 2023. Drafted into the Army in 1951 during the Korean War, Thurston spent two years in Japan and Korea. While teaching for two years at Tenafly High School in Tenafly, N.J., he introduced a course in world literature. However, he decided he wanted to teach about the cultures of Japan and China at the college level. Professor Thurston joined the Union College faculty in 1966 and began teaching in both the Department of History and the Department of Political Science.

219 - Denise Ziter of Troy, passed away on June 15, 2023. She was a graduate of Maria College, Mount St. Mary's College and Russell Sage College. Denise was a long-time second-grade teacher at Tamarac Elementary School. After her retirement, she co-founded Volunteers for Distressed Wildlife where she dedicated her life from 1980 to the present.

218 - Aaron Barrows, 93, of Hudson Falls, peacefully slipped from this world on June 15, 2023. A natural-born story teller, Aaron could keep an audience enthralled with true adventure tales from his days as a lumberjack in the Adirondacks in the 1940s. He was an ace mechanic, always ready with wrench in hand to help someone in need. Aaron retired from the South Glens Falls School System, where he worked as a school bus mechanic.

Stephanie graduated cum laude from Florida State University, receiving both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Elementary Education. Stephanie was a devoted teacher for over 30 years, and focused her work on helping students with learning disabilities. In 2002, she was awarded Seminole County Teacher of the Year. 213 - Frederick H. "Fred" Sweet, 91, of Corinth, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023. Fred graduated from Salem High School. He then joined the United States Navy on Sept. 5, 1950, serving during the Korean War on the USS Los Angles as a Gunners Mate. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he attended Plattsburg State College, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics. He was employed for many years as a High School Math and Pre-Algebra Teacher, first in Newburgh for a year and then for 35 years at Corinth Central School until his retirement in 1986.

Jane earned her bachelor of arts degree from the College of St. Rose and her masters from the State University of New York at Albany. She was a professor at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy from 1962-85. Jane was a member of the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and chairman of its Corner Shop.

211 - Geoffrey "Geoff" Armstrong, 80, of Argyle, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023. Born on June 22, 1942, in Liverpool, England during the height of World War 2, two years later, he would begin his life living in Montreal, Canada with his mother and father. Geoff spent many years as a middle school teacher in British Columbia and Montreal and was well respected by his students. In later years, he became a Business Consultant traveling the world over. His favorite place turned out to be Argyle, NY.

Ruth graduated from Ithaca High School and later earned her bachelor's degree from Oneonta College. She was born on December 15, 1935 in Amsterdam, NY and was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute, and Russell Sage College. Jane began her teaching career in September 1969 at Galway Central School. She taught Kindergarten, Third grade, and was the Cheerleading coach until she retired in June 1991. She and her husband were co-owners of the Cock N' Bull Restaurant in Galway from 1976-1996.

207 - Shirley Mae Wheeler, 92, of Glenville, passed away June 9, 2023. Shirley was born in Syracuse NY and grew up in Sylvan Beach, NY. She attended the one room schoolhouse at Fish Creek Landing before going to Camden Central School. She was employed by the food service division of the Syracuse School District for 25 years, first at Porter Elementary School and then as head cook at Fowler High School. Shirley was a wonderful cook and baker and loved making dinners for family holidays and celebrations.

206 - On June 11, 2023, Jeanette Rounds Zort, of Hoosick Falls, passed away at the age of 86. She graduated as the Salutatorian from Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake School, class of 1955. She received her teaching degree at SUNY Oneonta in 1959, and attended Columbia University. Jeanette began her career in the Scotia-Glenville School District, and taught for 25 years at School 14 in Troy, N.Y.Teaching was Jeanette's greatest passion. She took pride in being a Troy teacher.

205 - Robert Anthony Hyland, 86, of Scotia, NY passed away Tuesday evening, May 23, 2023. Bob was born in the Bronx, on a Saturday, March 7, 1937. He earned his undergraduate degree and NYS Teacher's Certificate in elementary education from SUNY Oneonta. On September 1, 1964 Bob was hired as a 5th grade teacher at Pashley Elementary School in the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School District. Spanning nearly four decades, his time at Pashley would conclude as an oft remembered and beloved teacher.

204 - Raymond G. "Ray" Patton, 99, a lifelong resident of the Town of Brunswick, died Saturday, June 3, 2023. Ray attended District School 16 as a boy and graduated from Troy High School. He worked as a delivery driver for his brother-in-law at the F. Robert Pollock Lumber Co. formerly in Troy. More recently, he drove a school bus for the former Golden Arrow Bus Lines in North Troy and most recently was employed as a school bus driver by the Brittonkill Central School District.

203 - Peter Joseph Brusoe, 71, a lifelong resident of the Town of Florida died on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Peter loved teaching and taught for 43 years. His degrees were in the areas of science education, curriculum planning and development, and school administration. Peter started his teaching career in Green Island and then took a six-year sabbatical to assist his father in running the family dairy farm. He returned to teaching at St. Mary's Institute and retired in June of 2022 after 31 years with Albany City School District.

202 - Fred W. Erikson, 87 of Schodack, died on May 25, 2023. Fred joined the Marine Corps in 1958 after obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree at City College of New York (now CUNY). Fred was awarded his Master's degree while teaching high school on Staten Island, where he founded and coached the school swim team. The growing family moved north to Colonie, and Fred taught at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he earned his Ph.D. in psycholinguistics.

201 - Linda McCane, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023. She was a longtime resident of Indian Lake and had more recently moved to Queensbury. She loved her job at Indian Lake Central School, where she was employed for 25 years. She served in many positions there, from janitor, cafeteria worker, and secretary. She was involved in many things in the school, including cheerleading coach, decorating the gym with posters, and making sure the girls always looked great and were cheering their hearts out.

200 - Susan Marie (Alfield) Mondor, 79, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023. She received her Bachelor's degree in Kindergarten-Primary Education from Worcester State College. 199 - Edward J. Hassett, 89, of Mohawk, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023. Mr. Hassett was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Bennington. He was CVA-20-AON 3rd class. In his early years, Mr. Hassett worked for the Valley Electric Co., Mohawk. Ed later worked for the Mohawk Post Office, for over 30 years, becoming the Postmaster, retiring in 1992. In his retirement, he drove school bus, for Mohawk Central School.

198 - Dorothy "Dot" L. Dever, 87 of Niskayuna, passed away on May 30, 2023. In 1956 she graduated from Boston University (Sargent College) with a degree in physical therapy. After college, she worked in Germany for the U.S. Army Special Services Agency providing recreational activities to troops stationed in Europe during the Cold War era until returning to the States in 1963. In 1980 she restarted her career at Pinewoods Center in Troy and then at Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) where she retired as a pediatric physical therapist in 2001 after almost 20 years.

197 - Deborah Dempsey, 63, of Glens Falls, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023. Deborah was born July 27, 1959, in Albany, NY. Throughout her life, Deborah, fondly known as Deb, worked in various fields, including as a school bus driver, dental assistant and server. In her earlier years, she found joy in the vibrant atmosphere of New York City. She was in the process of writing a book about her experiences.

196 - Howard Edward Sutliff, 93, of Vero Beach, FL and formerly of Hudson Falls, Ogdensburg, Fort Plain and Northville, NY died Monday, March 13, 2023. His first teaching job in chemistry was in Willsboro, NY where he taught for one semester before being drafted into the US Army. He served during the Korean War for two years attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge, he taught science in South Glens Falls before moving to Granville, NY where he was a Guidance Counselor and became a Principal. Later he was an administrator in Fort Plain, Mexico, NY, North Syracuse, and lastly to Ogdensburg where he retired in 1985.

195 - Dorothy J. Hogan, 81, of Glenmont, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Following graduation from college, Dorothy became a middle school science teacher in suburban Boston. After two years of teaching, Dorothy returned to SUNY Albany and earned a master's degree in library science in 1968. She then enlisted in the U.S. Army Special Services Agency, where she was an administrative librarian for base libraries. After returning to the U.S., she was employed as an assistant librarian at SUNY Albany.

194 - Blois "Butch" Barbur, 91, of Greenwich, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023. For over twenty years he owned and operated the Barbur family farm in North Greenwich. Following his time on the farm, he worked and retired from the NYS Canal System as a Chief Lock Operator on the Champlain Canal, Lock #9, Smiths Basin. He also drove a school bus for the Greenwich Central School District.

193 - Marie C. Frament, 92, formerly of Troy and also formerly of Waterford, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. Born in Grafton and educated in Troy schools, she had been employed as a school bus driver for the Waterford Halfmoon School District and retired in 1989. Prior to that, she worked at the Model Shirt Co. in Troy. She was a member and past president of the Peck Hose Ladies Auxiliary in Waterford. She was a volunteer helping Alzheimer's patients.

192 - Barbara Jean Wardle of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away on May 24, 2023. Barb was born in Ilion, New York, on June 13, 1947. Barb soon discovered that education was the path she would pursue for 33 years, beginning her career in the Little Falls school district, then teaching five years in the American School in Milan, Italy before returning to Canajoharie in 1977 for 25 years as a science teacher then middle school principal for the last eight years of her career. Barb was a dedicated educator and was so proud of the success of the middle school.

191 - Paul Franklin Bishop, 88, of Troy, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Paul was born in Asheville, N.C., joined the U.S. Army, and came to Troy to build his life and family. Paul had a distinguished career in athletics at Hudson Valley Community College where he worked as a coach and intramural director. He started the women's basketball and volleyball teams in the 1970s and coached the first National Championship women's basketball team for the college in 1993. Paul was inducted into the H.V.C.C. and National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame. To this day the coach of the year award is named in his honor.

190 - Bruce M. Solenski, 80, of Saratoga Springs, died Thursday, May 25, 2023. His teaching career began in 1966 continued until he retired in 1999 from the Shenendehowa Central School System in Clifton Park, NY. Bruce was a creative teacher. One of his yearly activities for his students was performing musical selections from the Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan. This was a theater production with costumes and make-up and presented to the school as well as their parents.

189 - Joseph Eugene Hanley, "Gene," 81 of Loudonville, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. He obtained a BA in History in 1964 from Siena College and a MS in Education from SUNY Albany. Gene volunteered for a year long Catholic Peace Corps elementary teaching job in Ardmore, OK. He returned to Latham in 1965 and taught at St. Teresa's School. Gene then enlisted in the Army. He served in Vietnam as a lieutenant in the First Calvary Division in the Mekong Delta during the time of the Tet Offensive. After leaving the service, he worked as a teacher and administrator in the South Colonie School District.

188 - Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann" Lortie, nee Loughlin, of Queensbury, passed away May 22, 2023. Elizabeth was born on June 4, 1932, in Glens Falls, NY. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Glens Falls and the College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey. She was highly esteemed for her commitment to teaching, having served as an English teacher at Hudson Falls High School for over 30 years. Elizabeth was well-known for her kind and selfless nature, as well as her great sense of humor.

187 - Charles S. Curcurito, 80, of Feura Bush, passed away on May 19, 2023. He was born in Albany. He retired from the Carpenters Union and went on to retire after 20 years from the Guilderland Central School District Transportation Dept as a bus driver, a position that he thoroughly enjoyed.

186 - Nancy A. MacLaughlin, 79, of Ballston Lake, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023. Nancy was born on April 16, 1944, in Troy. Following her graduation from high school, Nancy furthered her education at the Chandler School for Women where she completed her degree in secretarial studies. Nancy spent a large part of her career as a secretary for General Electric in Schenectady, before making the decision to stay home and raise her children. As her kids got older, she went back to work at Shenendehowa High School as a library aide.

Margaret was a substitute teacher in the Schodack Central School District, and also taught at the Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota. She was also an administrative assistant at St. Casimir's in Albany. Margaret enjoyed volunteering at the Farano Center.

184 - Shirley Jean Eggleston, 81, of Inverness Fla., passed away on May 10, 2023. She was born in Albany on October 8, 1941. Shirley devoted her life to serving others. 183 - Mary Claire Noakes, 81, of Bolton Landing, formerly of Lake Luzerne, passed away April 21, 2023. She went to Plattsburgh State College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education and also worked post graduate 60+ hours toward her Master's degree. Mary Claire taught elementary education for many years at Hadley-Luzerne Central School. Along with the classroom, Mary Claire guided students in various other areas: cheerleading coach, tennis coach, yearbook advisor and assisting the drama department.

Marilyn worked at General Electric, Knolls Atomic Power Lab, and Northway Auto Exchange. She was the principal's secretary at Malta Avenue Elementary School and Ballston Spa High School. 179 - Lucille M. Guthrie, 91, of Brant Lake, died May 21, 2023. Lucille grew up in Cohoes and was a graduate of Cohoes High School and New York State College for Teachers at Albany (now SUNY Albany). Lucille was a resident of Brant Lake while maintaining a winter residence in Venice, Fla. for more than 20 years. Lucille was a retired teacher of the French language at Heatly High School in Green Island. Lucille was an amazingly strong woman, having survived a near-death battle with polio when she was three.

Linda was a school bus driver in Saugerties and then in Florida where she lived for several years before returning to New York.

He taught English in the Amsterdam and Schuylerville Public School systems for many years and retired as an assistant principal. He also worked for TSI and later for Prime Source, until he fully retired.

176 - Donald Paul Oeffler of Green Island passed away at the age of 72 on May 16, 2023. He grew up in the Lansingburgh area of Troy where he would go on to work for Troy DPW. He would eventually move to Green Island and become an employee for the Village of Green Island DPW for 23 years. He also worked as a custodian for many years at Heatly School. Heatly School is a public Pre K-12 school located in Green Island, New York, and is operated by the Green Island Union Free School District.

174 - Albert "Al" C. Holliday, 95 of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Latham, passed on April 22, 2023. He left high school early in order to enlist in the Navy, and served his country as a Navy discharge officer during World War II. Upon discharge, Al returned to complete his schooling. Al's teaching career began in Clyde, N.Y., where he enjoyed teaching mathematics and physics, as well as coaching. His passion for teaching and progressive ideas brought him to Latham to become the supervisor of mathematics at the newly built Shaker High School in the North Colonie Central School District from 1958-1981.

173 - Thomas I. Ford, 85, passed away at his home in Queensbury, NY on April 22, 2023. Tom's education career was long and remarkable: he taught 6th and 7th grades in Auburn and Rochester, respectively, then served ultimately as Administrator of Elementary Curriculum and Special Programs and Director of Special Programs in Glens Falls City School District. Tom officially retired from education in 1993, but continued to work, holding positions as Interim School Administrator at both Shenendehowa and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.

171 - Richard D. White, 75, a longtime resident of Charlton, passed away on January 29, 2023. Rick graduated from Guilderland High School, Class of 1966 and went on to graduate from the Albany Business college in 1968. Rick honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He then enjoyed a long career at FedEx where he made many friends. More recently, Rick enjoyed serving as a school bus driver and trainer for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school district, until his retirement in 2021.

170 - Edmund "Junior" Kolakowski, 94, passed away at his home on Brant Lake on January 26, 2023. After graduating from Siena College and two days after getting married, Ed received his draft notice. Ed played on the Armed Forces Baseball team while in Germany and was the leading scorer on the Regimental Team. After the Army, Ed felt lucky to get a job teaching history and coaching basketball at Suffern High School in Suffern, N.Y. He taught there for 30 years and coached the varsity team for 27 years.

169 - Merton "Joe" McElwain, 89 of Guilderland, died on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. He was born on May 27, 1933, in Fort Covington, NY. He graduated from New York State Teacher's College in Albany in 1955 and attended numerous National Science Foundation courses during the following summers. Mr. McElwain taught high school mathematics at Salmon River Central School in Fort Covington, NY, Victor High School in Victor, NY, and spent 26 years at Shaker High School in Latham, retiring in 1990.

Born in Elmira, Dick was educated in Elmira schools and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from SUNY Geneseo and his master's degree in education from SUNY Albany. He later returned to SUNY Albany and received his certification as a guidance counselor. For over 32 years he worked at the Shenendehowa School District as a science teacher and then as a guidance counselor until retiring in 1994.

Ann was born in Schenectady, graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and went to work for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles before leaving to raise her family. Upon re-entering the workforce, Ann began a career with Capital Region BOCES as an educational assistant, retiring in 2000.

165 - Gerald R. Lester, 82, a longtime resident of Mechanicville, passed away May 3, 2023. Born and raised in Malone, NY, he was a Franklin Academy graduate. Shortly after high school, Jerry joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1961-64. Jerry's career as a payroll supervisor at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital lasted for 24 years, until retiring in 2005. After retirement, Jerry drove school buses for Fulton County Schools in Alpharetta, Ga., and later for the Hoosic Valley and Mechanicville School Districts for several years.

484 in 2022 - Ronald E. Dickens, 86, of Hudson Falls, NY, passed away November 12, 2022. Ron graduated from Dannemora High School in 1954 and Plattsburgh State University in 1958. He later served honorably with the New York Army National Guard until his discharge in 1966. Ron dedicated his career to teaching and coaching in the Hadley Luzerne Central School District until his retirement in 1993. Ron was also an active local representative with NYSUT and a Chief Negotiator for many years.

163 - Blanche "Bunny " Moses, 87, of Schenectady, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born on May 31, 1935, in the Bronx, Bunny trained at Albany State Teachers College. She spent 35 years as a high school teacher - primarily of American and European history, but also Asian and African history. She taught for most of her career at Scotia-Glenville High School after starting at Schalmont, and also spent time as a substitute teacher at Linton High in Schenectady.

162 - Ronald J. "Ron" Dunn, 74, of Ballston Lake, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023. Ron was a graduate of Corinth High School and later attended Schenectady County Community College and subsequently taught in their Fire Service program. Ron retired from the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services as a bureau chief. He served his community for over 50 years as a member, chief and head of fire commissioners with the Ballston Lake Fire Department. He will be greatly missed by all who worked with him and knew him.

161 - Lorraine J. O'Connor, 76, of Chestertown, NY, passed away on May 3, 2023. Lorry came into this world March 7, 1947, in Ilion, NY. She graduated from Ilion High School in 1965 and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree at the College of St. Rose. Lorry began her teaching career in Ballston Spa and then St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls. In the 70's Lorry moved further north and started her long teaching career at Bolton Central School, Bolton Landing, NY, as a Math Teacher.

483 in 2022 - Richard J. Fairbanks, 91, of East Providence, RI, died November 24, 2022. He lived in Barrington, RI for many years before retiring to Lake Bomoseen in Castleton, VT. Mr Fairbanks was a Music Teacher, Head of the Music Department at East Providence High School for 28 years before retiring in 1989. Under his leadership, he brought the Choraleers and Meistersingers on concert tours in Europe, Portugal, Hawaii and Bermuda. While at EPHS he produced many musicals and inspired hundreds of students.

159 - Stanley M. Hill, 82, off Glens Falls, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023. Stan graduated from Stratford Central School in 1959. He then went on to get his BS in Education from SUNY Oneonta. Furthering his education, he took classes at SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Albany. He worked for Glens Falls School District as a Teacher then as the District Computer Coordinator, working a total of 47 years from 1963 to 2010. He also coached the Glens Falls Girls Varsity Basketball team and Girls Tennis team.

158 - On Monday, January 23, 2023, David A. Dykeman, 77, of Delanson, NY, was called home to heaven to help supervise God’s spring planting. David was born in May of 1945 in Niskayuna, NY. Dave spent his career driving for a living, first for Bellevue Builders and then later for General Drywall and Duanesburg Oil, until he found his calling as a School Bus Driver for 27 years at Duanesburg Central School. All his “kids” loved him, and he will be fondly remembered as Big Bird or just Bird by his coworkers.

157 - Marcia Huntley Hoyt, of Albany, passed away at the age of 93, on April 21, 2023. Known for her warmth, generosity, openness, and respect, Marcia used her creativity and talent working as a landscape designer in the family business, Hoyt Farm Nursery in Schodack. Marcia loved children and worked for the Schodack School District in the library and driving bus.

156 - Richard Milton Decker, 82 of Ballston Spa, N.Y., died Thursday, April 27, 2023. Richard received his bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University and his master's degree from SUNY Albany. Richard had a career in education for 40 years in the Saratoga Springs City School District. He taught social studies for 20 years and later served as a guidance counselor for 20 years. During this time, he was also a wrestling coach and official. Richard also dedicated many years to the Adult Education Program for the Saratoga Springs School System as its director.

155 - Gerald M. Walsh, 92, of Schenectady, died April 24, 2023. A native of Buffalo, NY, Gerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 on the USS Sanborn and submarine, USS Halfbeak. He also taught his fellow sailors how to swim at the Navy Swim School. He chose a career in teaching, after graduating from SUNY Oneonta and settling in Scotia, NY, spending the majority of his professional years in the Amsterdam School District.

154 - Gary M. Lynch, 83, of Greenwich, passed April 25, 2023. Gary completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at SUNY Albany. He enlisted in the Army National Guard during his time at SUNY Albany and was honorably discharged after six years of service in 1968. As a teacher of high school biology for 30 years at Hoosic Valley Central School in Schaghticoke, he was known for his passion for the subject matter and his student's success. Equally important to Gary was his advocacy for his peers as a union representative at his school system.

152 - Patricia P. Snyder, 75, of Wynantskill, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2023. Patricia grew up in Troy and was a 1967 graduate of Troy High where she was a proud member of the Skyliner Drum and Bugle Corps. She held several jobs throughout her career, working at multiple state agencies and as a teacher's aide at Watervliet Elementary School. However, no job title was more important to her than Mother and Grandmother.

151 - Sara "Sally" L. Latham Coonley, 98, died on Monday, April 24, 2023. Born in Albany, she resided in Troy for many years and Menands for 25 years. Sally was a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush, Wheelock College in Boston and Russell Sage College in Troy. Sally was a kindergarten teacher in the Enlarged City School District of Troy at School 18, 17 and 14 for 35 years, retiring 43 years ago. All her students loved her and remembered her when they met her years later.

He then attended Oswego College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English and social studies and a master's degree in education. He became a teacher at Mexico High School and then a high school principal in Lisbon, Herkimer and Brittonkill School Districts. After he retired, he worked as a teacher at Catholic Central School.

149 - Joseph P. Tolfa, 78, entered eternal peace on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Joe grew up in St. Johnsville NY where he graduated from high school. Joe went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Siena College, as well as, two Master’s Degrees from SUNY Oneonta. During his 32 year tenure teaching 6th grade math at Mohonasen, he developed a great rapport with his students, which inspired him to create a monthly event called Teen Town. This gave students a Friday night fun time to socialize with games, music, and food at the school.

147 - Lois Margaret VanDerwerken, 94, of Esperance, passed away April 10, 2023. She was born in Smithfield, Utah and received her B.S. in elementary education from Utah State University. She taught kindergarten in Salt Lake City for a year and then became a secretary at New York Life Insurance. In 1955 she and and her husband bought their farm in Esperance. In 1985 they founded Pick A Pumpkin Pumpkin Patch. She also worked briefly as a caseworker for Schoharie County Department of Social Services.

146 - William "Bill" Masucci, 81, passed away April 19, 2023. Bill was born and raised in Schenectady and taught health education at Linton High School until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the 1953 and 1954 Little League World Series Champion teams and was a beloved athletic coach at Linton, most notably baseball from 1974 through 1992.

145 - Blanche Weininger, 103, of Colonie, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023. Born in Norfolk, VA, she attended grammar school in Webster, MA and high school at Albany High School. For more than 30 years, Blanche worked as a cafeteria worker for the South Colonie School District, retiring in 1999. She also worked for Picotte Realty in Colonie.

144 - Wayne Munson Smith, 86,  Fort Myers, FL, passed away on April 10, 2023. After college at RPI in Troy, Wayne worked as a teacher at Central Regional High School in NJ and then as a Physics Professor at Trenton University, before returning to RPI to receive his Master's degree. He then went to work as a Programmer at the Knolls Atomic Laboratory and eventually moved on to the New York Power Pool as the Manager of Computer Services.

143 - Marilyn R. Barron, 78, of Watervliet, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023. Marilyn was born November 15, 1944 in Troy. She furthered her education at the College of St. Rose and earned a bachelor degree in Elementary Education in 1966. Marilyn taught in several area school districts including Watervliet City Schools and the Immaculate Conception School in Watervliet. She retired as a teacher's assistant in 2006 from Watervliet High School.

142 - Noelle C. Frasier, 83, of Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at home. Born on December 12, 1939 in Utica, NY, she graduated from the Utica Free Academy in 1957. Noelle was a fixture in the Glens Falls City School District. She was a Teacher's Aide and Attendance Clerk at Kensington Road School for nearly 30 years, before she retired in 2015. She was also a recipient of the Founders' Day Award in recognition of her dedication to students and staff.

141 - Anna Wallace Mullady of Stillwater, passed away on April 17, 2023. Born on February 13, 1927, she graduated from the Vincentian Institute in 1945. After raising her family, she worked at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Stillwater Central School as the guidance secretary. Anna had several yearbooks dedicated to her as a tribute to the dedication, love and compassion she provided the Stillwater Central School.

140 - Onnie Onofrio F. Nappi, 83, of Niskayuna, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School and Albany Business College. He retired from Schenectady High School in 2018. Upon his retirement, he served as office manager for Amazing Grace Transportation. He was very active in the City of Schenectady; among other things, he chaired the Annual Christmas Parade for over 35 years.

139 - Linda Joan Schaefer (nee Thompson), 78, of Scotia, NY, passed away on April 16th, 2023. Linda was born on November 10th, 1944, in Yonkers. She loved gardening and spending time outdoors. Linda was a graduate of SUNY Oswego and became a tenth-grade biology teacher at Mohonasen High School. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and traveling.

138 - Ruth L. Phillips, 92, of Brunswick, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born in Schenectady, she was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and earned her Bachelor's degree from New York State Teachers College in Albany. Ruth was a school teacher for junior high and high school at Tamarac, in what is now the Brunswick-Brittonkill School District, and a substitute teacher at Troy schools for 15 years, retiring 32 years ago.

137 - Raymond A. LaDeaux, 81, of Guilderland Ave., passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023. He was born on September 26, 1941, in Watervliet. Raymond retired from Schenectady County Community College as superintendent of maintenance. He proudly served with the US Air force, enlisting in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963.

136 - John Lawrence Daly, 86, of Baldwinsville, died April 11, 2023. John (Larry) attended the Watertown Conservatory of Music, Le Moyne College and earned an MS in science education from Syracuse University. Dr. Daly led a committed life of reflection on and witness to the meaning and pathways of peace and justice in the modern world. He was science educator, beginning at the Aquinas School in Rochester and continuing for 19 years at Bishop Grimes High School in East Syracuse before his retirement from Mexico, NY BOCES in 2006.

135 - Maryann Theresa DeMasi, 81, of Auburn,  died March 13, 2023. Maryann graduated from Fulton High School and then attended SUNY Oswego, earning her Bachelors in Education. She started teaching for the Auburn Enlarged School District in 1963 and remained there for the rest of her career. Maryann taught elementary school then earned her Master's degree from SUNY Brockport and became a special reading teacher and student teacher coordinator. After retiring, Maryann continued as a substitute teacher for several years.

134 - Phyllis L. Brandt, 91, of Burnt Hills, passed away February 10, 2023. Born in Schenectady on August 6, 1931, she graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and Green Mountain Jr. College. ​She worked for Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Schools in various capacities. Phyllis also faithfully served her community for over 25 years driving ambulance for Ballston Lake Emergency Squad.

133 - Carol Morey Broderick, 82, of Delmar, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1959 and Albany Business College in 1961. Carol was employed by Callanan Industries for 15 years and also as a teacher's assistant for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District for 17 years. After her working career, she cherished her role of being the director of the Ventures Church Food Pantry at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem.

131 - Robert T. "Bob" Husted, 85, of Rexford passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023. Born on August 13, 1937, he graduated from Springfield College with a B.S. in Physical Education and took graduate courses at SUNY Oneonta, the University of Colorado, Union College, and UAlbany. He spent his career as a science teacher in the Mohonasen School District, where he also coached track and was an assistant football coach.

130 - George G. Carman, 91, of Guilderland, passed away April 11, 2023. Born on April 1, 1932 in Prattsville, NY, he graduated from Gilboa Central in 1949. He received his bachelor's degree from Oneonta State Teachers College, master's from St. Lawrence University, and served in the US Army. He had a long career at Mohonasen Central School District, where he was teacher and principal, retiring in 1989. George was a member of the National Ski patrol at Plattekill Mountain where he taught his children to love skiing.

129 - Catherine Irene (Wright) Williams, 61, of Queensbury, passed away April 11, 2023. She was born on June 7, 1961, in Glens Falls, NY. Cathy graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1979. Most recently, she worked in the cafeteria at SUNY Adirondack as a cashier. Cathy naturally became a surrogate mom for the college students at SUNY Adirondack, inspiring them with her quotes and providing a safe space for people to connect.

128 - Luigi Bona, 87, of Jupiter, FL, passed away on April 5, 2023. He was born in Parma, Italy and moved to the United States when he was 15. He grew up in the Manhattan area and lived in Putnam Valley, NY until his retirement in 1997. Luigi was a custodian at the Roaring Brook Elementary School in Chappaqua, NY for many years.

127 - Noah Vladz Kucij, of Albany, died April 5, 2023. Noah was 43 years old and had been a full-time member of the Hudson Valley Community College English faculty for fourteen years. He held a master's degree in teaching from Union College and was close to completing a PhD in English at SUNY Albany. He was a gifted writer having published numerous poems in both print and online periodicals. In 2005 and 2006 Noah taught English in both Osaka and Fukuoka, Japan.

126 - Charlotte Marie Piccotti McAllister, 86, passed away on April 10, 2023. She was born in Carbondale, PA and attended St. Rose School. Charlotte moved to Glenville in the early 1970's. She retired from Schenectady County Community College but also held positions at the Research Foundation of SUNY Albany and First National Bank of Scotia. Some of her volunteer work after retirement include Baptist Rehabilitation Center, Birthright, Glendale Nursing Home and BHNRC Auxiliary.

125 - Mary Rickard Hughes, 94 of Altamont, passed away April 5, 2023. She attended Potsdam Teachers College and completed her degree at Arizona State College, where she received a Bachelor of Education in Music. She later taught second-grade music and chorus in Coolidge, Arizona. Later, back in Altamont, Mary raised her children and became an active and important member of the community in her own way. She served as a substitute teacher, volunteer school librarian, Cub, Boy, and Girl Scout leader.

124 - Geoffrey D. Stroebel passed away April 7, 2023. In 1970, Geoff accepted a teaching position in the social studies department at Niskayuna High School. Geoff started a new innovative inter-disciplinary approach to teaching English and Social Studies with Dr. Nedra Stimpfle. He was also an outstanding tennis coach. He was instrumental in introducing the first musicals to Niskayuna High School. Upon retiring from 32 years of teaching in 2002, he served as Director of the Youth Court for the Town of Niskayuna for over a decade.

123 - Charlotte Ann Miecznikowski, 73 of Latham, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023. Charlotte received bachelor's and master's degrees from The College of Saint Rose ('71), where she studied education and literacy. During her 42 years with the City School District of Albany, she taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, most recently at Philip J. Schuyler Elementary School and Sheridan Preparatory Academy. She was also a strong leader in the Albany Public School Teachers Association.

122 - Peter "Pete" Falzarine, 76, of Canajoharie, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023. He attended schools in Utica before attending Utica College of Syracuse University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education. He proudly taught in the Utica School District for 32 years, retiring in 2001. Pete had a passion for geography, history, and criminal justice. Pete also dedicated his time to coaching in Utica and Canajoharie.

121 - Harvey "Lefty" E. Nolan Jr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023. Harvey was born in Queens, NY. He was a graduate of Draper High School in Rotterdam and went on to serve in the US Air Force from 1958-1961. Harvey worked for many years at the Watervliet Arsenal. Upon retirement, he went to work as a school bus driver for the Schalmont School District, a job which he loved, and Dog Warden for the town of Duanesburg.

120 - Patricia A. Breason, 90, of Hudson Falls, passed away April 4, 2023. Born August 7, 1932, in Queensbury, she attended Hudson Falls High School. For many years Pat worked for Hudson Falls High School in the cafeteria, retiring in 1995. In her younger years you would find Pat dancing every weekend at Grinnell's in Kingsbury and Nelson's Dance Hall in Salem.

119 - Carole Ann O'Connor passed away on April 1, 2023, in Albany, NY. Born on November 4, 1944, in Freeland, PA, she earned a Master's in Education and counseling from Penn State. Later, Carole obtained a second master's degree in Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages (TESOL) from SUNY Albany. In Endicott, NY, she served as an elementary school teacher. In the Capital Region, she worked for BOCES as an ESL teacher and tutor in many area school districts.

118 - Thomas C. Fowler, of Albany, known by many by his nickname "Tod," passed to new life on March 29, 2023.Tod was born in Rensselaer on September 12, 1941. He was a graduate with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from The University of Albany where he received his Ph.D. in philosophy. Tod began his career as an educator at St. John's School in Rensselaer as a mathematics teacher and later taught in higher education as an adjunct professor at UAlbany and The College of Saint Rose.

117 - Lorraine D. Pratt, 94, of Slingerlands, died April 2, 2023. Lorraine's early education began in a one-room schoolhouse in Buskirk. She went on to attend Hoosick Falls High School and was a member of the class of 1944. Upon her graduation, she worked as a seamstress for 17 years at the Undergarment in Hoosick Falls. After six years of being a stay-at-home mom, she reentered the workforce in 1967, becoming a teacher's aide at the Cambridge Central School in Cambridge. She retired after 33 years in 2000.

116 - Sylvia Bray Chessin passed away after 94 years of living life to the fullest on March 26, 2023, in Annapolis, Md. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College and Columbia University Teachers College. Formerly living in Niskayuna, in February 2023 she moved to Annapolis to be near family. After her retirement as an art teacher in the South Colonie School District, Sylvia was a world traveler and every year brought back stories and relics of faraway places.

115 - Jacqulyn Anne Cieszynski, 67, of Rotterdam, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Born in Schenectady, she was a dedicated employee of the Schenectady City School District for 30 years retiring in 2016. At Pleasant Valley Elementary School, she was known as the "Matriach," and the "Jackie of All Trades." She also was the owner of Wonderland Child Care with her Best friend Nancy for 25 years retiring in 2020. Jacqulyn impacted many children's lives. Not only the children but also their families.

114 - Rachel E. Silverman Pfanner, 48 of Niantic, CT, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023. Rachel was born in Schenectady, September 21, 1974. She graduated from Shaker High School in Latham in 1992. Rachel worked for Filenes, Limited and Limited Too. She enrolled at Mitchell College in New London, CT, to begin a new direction and studied early childhood development. She graduated in 2001 and began to teach in the Head Start Program. Rachel helped many children in her time as a teacher, but she was forced to leave teaching because of her health.

110 - Diane (Vincent) MacIntosh, 74, of Hudson Falls, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Born on November 3, 1948, in Cleveland, OH, she graduated from the Mohonasen High School, and in 1970, she received her BS degree from SUNY Oswego, and in 1980, her MS degree from Russell Sage College. After graduating from SUNY Oswego in 1970, Diane taught first, third and fourth grades in the Hudson Falls School System, retiring in 2003, after a 33 year career in teaching.

109 - Susan Jean Gaylord of Fort Plain, NY died March 20, 2023. She was born in Syracuse, NY on June 6, 1945 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education at SUNY Brockport, followed by a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University. She taught elementary, middle, and high school grade levels for many years and at several schools. Later, while working as a Health Coordinator at the State Education Department in Albany, she developed curricula used in schools throughout NY.

Born in Syracuse, NY, Pat experienced an idyllic childhood surrounded by loving family and friends that have remained important people in her life. For over thirty years, Gert worked in Schenectady City Schools as a school secretary, at McKinley Junior High which later became Steinmetz Middle School, until her retirement in 1992.

Ray was born on October 12, 1936, in Troy, graduated from Troy High School and Springfield College, and received his master's degree in education from SUNY Albany. He dedicated his life to health and physical education, becoming a teacher and coach in the Tamarac and Bethlehem Central school districts in upstate New York and serving a long tenure as athletic director at Bethlehem.

106 - Barbara J. Gordon, 84, of Hudson Falls, passed on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Born December 10, 1938, in Ticonderoga, she graduated from Whitehall High School in 1956. She was employed by Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES as a teacher's assistant for 23 years. During that time, she also baked and decorated beautiful cakes for family and friends.

105 - Sylvia Emmy Hauser (formerly Goerg), 95, of Scotia, passed away on March 19, 2023. Sylvia was born on Long Island, New York, on October 21, 1927. She worked diligently for the intellectually challenged: she was an innovative educator and a leader at Capital Region BOCES for many years, in various roles. After full retirement she was a supervisor for student teachers at The College of Saint Rose.

104 - Mary Carmel (Christopher) Genier, of Schenectady, passed away on March 21, 2023. Mary was born on September 30, 1933, attended Draper High School in Rotterdam and NYS Teachers College in Albany. A devoted teacher, Mary taught high school mathematics at Draper, and later, Mohonasen High School. She was the Math Department coordinator at both schools. After retiring, Mary worked for the NYS Education Department and became a mentor for the Union College Teachers Program. In 1996, Mary received the NYS Assoc. of Math Teachers Distinguished Service Award.

103 - Paul Satiroff, 92, a lifelong resident of Mechanicville, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Schooled in Mechanicville, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army, served in the Republic of South Korea for over a year, and was assigned to the graves registration company, taking care of killed-in-action soldiers during his tenure. Paul was a custodian for the Stillwater Central School district for 15 years, retiring in 1996.

102 - Gretchen Marie Ambrose Armlin Baldrey, of Averill Park, passed away Monday evening, March 20, 2023. Born on September 5, 1936, in Utica, she dedicated much of her life to education, first in her pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics at The College of Saint Rose followed by receiving a Master of Science in math education from Union College. She was a devoted high school math teacher for 28 years, spending 20 years teaching at Averill Park High School.

101 - Stephen Smith, 66, of Colonie, passed away on March 14, 2023. He graduated from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in 1974, and Manhattan College majoring in physical education in 1978. He earned a master's degree in special education from The College of Saint Rose. He was a much beloved and respected teacher of physical education at the former St. Theresa's School in Albany, Arbor Hill School, Albany High School, and the Albany School of Humanities.

100 -  John Walter Berry Sr., 92, of Fayetteville, died March 18, 2023. Born in Utica, N.Y. on June 13, 1930, John attended Potsdam State, the University of Michigan, and North Carolina College. He was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Japan during the Korean War. John had a long and devoted career as a music teacher, first at Onondaga Central Schools, then at Syracuse City Schools, spending the rest of his career with the East Syracuse-Minoa School District until retiring in 1996.

99 - George Hobbs Orlemann, 82, of Cambridge, NY, died Tuesday, March 14, 2023. He attended the University of Minnesota, before obtaining his Masters of Divinity at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Wenham, MA. George was stationed in England while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1969. He relocated to Cambridge, NY in 1970, to Pastor the Coila Church for forty-two years, retiring in 2012. George also faithfully drove a school bus for the Cambridge Central School District since 1985, only stepping down in December.

98 - Arnold E. Elman, 90, of Clifton Park, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2022. Arnold saw service in the 3d Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, stationed in both Georgia and Germany. He taught on Long Island and was a principal in Connecticut. In 1973, he received his doctorate degree while serving as an assistant to the superintendent of schools in East Greenbush. He later served as superintendent of schools in Coventry, CT and Ellenville, NY. He retired in 1989.

97 - Kathryn M. Neuhart, 81, of Schenectady, passed away Monday, March 11, 2023. Born on November 18, 1941, she was raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a teacher's aide of the Talented and Gifted program at Saddlewood Elementary School in South Colonie. Later, she joined Parsons Child and Development Center in Albany as a secretary and eventually became a computer software trainer for the agency. She retired in 2002.

96 - Angela Trigonis, of Albany, passed away March 11, 2023, at the age of 65. Born on September 27, 1957, in Andros, Greece, Gelly held undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brooklyn College, R.P.I., and Columbia University. As a resident of Albany and Brooklyn, she loved to share her knowledge with everyone she met. When in Brooklyn she was a high school history teacher and worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Ilma was educated in Italy and worked for a tobacco company in Dugenta, Italy. In addition, she worked for the Bel-Rod Factory and later for  the Schenectady School District until she retired in 1989.

94 - Marguerite (Rita) Blanchard Quintrell, 94, of Schenectady, passed March 3, 2023 after a long, fulfilling life. Born and raised in Albany, NY, she and her husband raised their family in Schenectady, NY and later in life moved to Florida, where they lived in Pinellas Park and Brooksville, Florida. She was at one time employed at the Pinellas Park Middle School working in the cafeteria. She was so happy doing that.

93 - Alice Holmes Bradley, 87, of Niverville, died on March 15, 2023. After graduating from Hudson High School in 1953, she completed her bachelor's and master's degrees at SUNY Oneonta in education. She lived in Kinderhook, Millerton, and since 1963 kept a residence on Kinderhook Lake. Alice taught at Kingston, Ichabod Crane, Immaculate Conception, and Taconic Hills Elementary Schools. She was the director of the Millerton Day Care Center in the early 1970s.

92 - Bernard F. Ashe Esq., of Delmar, passed March 8, 2023. Born on March 8, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Ashe received his law degree from Howard University. He served as assistant counsel for the United Automobile Workers (UAW) from 1963-1971, and general counsel for New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) from 1971-1996. Jack was a teacher in the Lansingburgh School District for 32 years, having taught the fourth-grade level at the former Powers School and later at Rensselaer Park Elementary School. Frances earned her master's degree in English from Hunter College and kickstarted her lifelong passion of teaching. Frances shared her gift with all ages in the Schenectady School District where she held three teaching licenses: Pre-k to sixth grade, English education and Special Education. Frances taught formally in schools for over 50 years, working over a range of seven different school districts.

89 - Susan A. (White) Gier, 75 of Rensselaer, passed away March 11, 2023. Born in Berlin, NY, she was raised in Schodack and graduated from Berlin Central High School. Susan worked as a teacher's assistant for the Special Education Department of the East Greenbush Central School District for the past 35 years. Not only did her career span multiple decades, but it also spanned multiple schools within the district, with her most recent tenure at Columbia High School.

88 - Wilfred "Willy" Petuske Jr., 94 of Halfmoon, passed away March 7, 2023. In 1952, Willy entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return home from the service in 1954, he went back to work on the family farm, and worked at Guptill's Skating Arena. He worked for his brother-in-law driving a dump truck when he decided to leave and go to work for Shenendehowa School District, retiring in 1992. He continued the family farm stand, with his wife Ruth by his side, until their retirement in 2002.

87 - John H. "Jack" Crawford, 84, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away March 6, 2023. He began his career in education in Greenwich, NY where he taught History. He left his job as a classroom educator in 1966 upon earning a National Science Scholarship to attend Atlanta University to pursue a Masters Degree in Administration. He then returned to upstate New York, spending the remainder of his career as the High School Principal and Director of Guidance at Fort Ann Central School until his retirement in 1995.

86 - Jean Marie Bourgeois (nee Spencer), 95, of Glenville, NY, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023. 85 - Ellen M. Lippincott, 80, formerly of Troy and Myrtle Beach, S.C. passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. Ellen had been employed for several years at the N.Y.S. Department of Taxation and Finance and the N.Y.S. Department of Motor Vehicles. She retired in 2003. Earlier in her career, Ellen was employed as a dental hygienist and also taught in elementary school. She was a member of the CSEA, NYSUT and the Dental Hygienist Association.

She formerly taught at Mohonasen and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School. She then went on to work for the Department of Transportation for Niskayuna Central School District where she recently retired from after 23 years of service as a bus aide. Sandy also worked for the Daily Gazette, delivering newspapers to the town of Niskayuna.

After high school graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Radio Commander during WWII from 1944 to 1946. She retired in 2018. After her retirement, she worked as a grant manager for the City of Houston.

74 - Herbert Thomas Sanders III, 91, originally from Upstate New York, and most recently of Falmouth, Maine, passed away February 24, 2023. Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., he graduated from Peru Central High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean War and upon his discharge, attended Plattsburgh State Teachers College (later SUNY Plattsburgh). After receiving his degree, he began his 30 plus year teaching career at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central Schools. Herb was a member of New York State United Teachers and was very active in Retiree Council 10 (RC-10) of NYSUT after retirement.

Cindy was born August 17, 1934, in Springfield, VT, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Education at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Upon graduation she began her teaching career in Burlington public elementary schools and later taught in the Warrensburg Central School system for decades until her retirement. Cindy taught 4th grade for over 30 years before retiring in 1995.

67 - Kenneth Raymond Hunter, of Voorheesville, passed away at 92 on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a teen. Stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43), he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1957 and entered Syracuse University. He began his post-college career as a high school history teacher in Clinton, N.Y. He retired from the National Guard in 1990 as a Master Sergeant, having served a total of nearly 30 years in the military, concurrent with his regular employment.

63 - Cornelia Campbell Moynihan, of Albany, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022, at age 86. She was a lifelong learner. She completed a master's degree in French at Yale University ('59), took pre-med classes at UCLA ('66-'68), and took graduate classes in biology at Catholic University ('72-'73), specializing in medical genetics. Over the years, she worked as a French teacher, a researcher in an early fertility lab, a stockbroker, and arts and antiquities dealer.

62 - James J. "Jim" Girvin, 94, of Albany, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023. Jim began his teaching career at Philip Livingston Junior High School in 1952 as a science teacher, with his next assignment at the Altamont school from 1955-1958. He then transferred to the North Colonie School District as a teacher and was appointed principal in 1970. In the North Colonie School District he enjoyed 32 years within three schools: Blue Creek, Southgate, and Boght Hills, retiring in 1990.

61 - On February 15, 2023, Nancy Hollenbeck of Lake George, NY, got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 86 years old. Nancy was born in Binghamton, NY and relocated to Glenville, NY where she grew up on a farm. She studied Nursing at New England Deaconess Hospital, graduating as a Registered Nurse. Nancy worked as an RN at Glenridge Hospital and Scotia-Glenville Central Schools.

60 - Joseph Drenchko, 92 of Rexford, passed away on February 8, 2023. After graduating from college, he served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. Joe taught both at North Syracuse High School and Cicero-North Syracuse (C-NS) High School for 36 years, teaching physics for 34 of those years including time spent as the Science chair. Joe was active in the North Syracuse Education Association (NSEA) and was one of six union officials who served a 10-day sentence at Jamesville Penitentiary following a teacher strike over contract language in 1976.

55 - Michael W. D'Aloia, 73, of Round Lake, died on February 14, 2023. He received his degree in Elementary Education at SUNY Oneonta. Mike began his career as an elementary teacher within the Shenendehowa School District, however, his career was cut short due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in 1973. After years of rehabilitation, he was able to get back into the education field, working as a Recreational Aide for the Wilton Developmental Center for nearly 20 years, before retiring in 2002.

49 - Virginia Tracey joined the heavenly choir on 28 January 2023 at the age of 91. Virginia was born in Callicoon, NY. Once graduating from Delaware Valley Central School in 1948, she earned two degrees from Albany State University graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1952 with a BA in math then in 1953 with a MA in chemistry. From there she went on to work at General Electric Corporation in Schenectady. In 1956 she went to work at Shenendehowa Central Schools as a math teacher.

47 - Joseph Mazzoccone, 96, of Albany, entered Eternal Life Monday, February 6, 2023. Born in Treglio, Italy, Joseph worked on his family farm in Italy, growing grapes, olives and figs. He served in the Italian Carabinieri for four years. He immigrated to Canada with most of his family, and eventually moved to Albany. Joseph worked at Albany Felt, Schaefer Brewery and the Albany City School District. He retired to enjoy his family, making wine, tending his garden, and playing Bocce, and Scopa.

46 - Born in 1945, Alan Curtis Applebee, of Westerlo, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Although most knew Alan from The Original Applebee's, Alan's real passion was teaching and coaching. The academic world is where he felt most comfortable. After receiving degrees from Colgate, Cortland, and Temple Universities, Dr. Applebee taught and coached at several high schools, and private schools, and later as a college professor at San Jose State University.

Dr. Altes moved to the Capital Region in 1984 when she accepted a role as associate vice chancellor for Academic Programs at the SUNY Systems Administration. In 1987, Dr. Altes accepted a position as vice president for Academic Affairs at SUNY Empire State College. In 1998, she was asked to return to assume the role of interim president.

As a child, she moved to Cohoes with her family and was a 1964 graduate of Cohoes High School. She attended SUNY Oneonta and was a volunteer and teacher for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in underserved areas of Oregon and Oklahoma. She later was a teacher at St. Marie's School in Cohoes and in the Lansingburgh School District.

She raised her three children as the family moved from Rochester to Buffalo, Miami, Tallahassee, and Boca Raton. Jean was a high school English teacher before serving on the High Technology Council for the State of Florida and working at Florida Atlantic University. In 2014, she moved to Rhode Island to be closer to children and grandchildren.

She was a 4-H leader for over 50 years in Saratoga County and shared her incredible knowledge by judging at several local county fairs. Anne was also an avid quilter.

33 - George A. Perry Sr., 86 of Clifton Park, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. George served in the U.S. Armed Forces and retired after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves as a colonel. He started his education career in 1959 at Brookfield High School in Brookfield, N.Y. (near Utica) teaching physical education and science as well as coaching football, basketball, baseball and track. He finished his 33 year  career of public service as superintendent of the Watervliet City School District in 1992.

32 - Gail F. Pross, 77, born and raised in Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 24, 2023. While working as a secretary for more than 31 years in the Mohonasen School District, Gail was loved and admired by her students and the entire community. Even after her retirement in 2010, Gail fostered numerous friendships with the students and families from the district.

31 - Frederick William Newnham III, 81 of Glenville, and formerly from Schenectady, passed away on January 17, 2023. After graduation from Siena College, Fred spent several years serving his country in the United States Army, honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. He had a 30+ year career as a math teacher at Central Park Middle School in Schenectady and ran the Central State Street Neighborhood Community Youth Program during the winter months and for six weeks in the summer.

30 - Laura Ann Zagata, 79 of Ballston Lake, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2023. Born on September 22, 1943, she raised her family before working as a bus monitor for Shenendehowa Schools for over 20 years. She enjoyed helping her husband in his automotive business, Zagata's Garage in Clifton Park. She loved to tend her flower garden at home and go camping on Lake Nancy with her sons.

 29 - Ronald G. Pope, 89, of Niskayuna, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Born in Schenectady, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and Siena College with a Bachelors Degree. He was a school teacher at Mont Pleasant, Steinmetz, and St. Anthony's Schools, all in Schenectady. Ron enjoyed walking in Central Park. He played baseball in the farm system with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and coached at Northside Little League.

28 - Donna C. Traider, 76 of Round Lake, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Born on September 8, 1946, Donna spent her career with the Shenendehowa Central School District, first working as a librarian and then transitioning into the food service department. She enjoyed camping, baking, and bowling, and was a longtime member of the Round Lake Ladies Auxiliary.

27 - Thomas F. Hall III, 96, died on January 11, 2023, in Schenectady. Thomas began his career teaching chemistry and physics at West Canada Valley High School and at Fort Plain High School. He spent the remainder of his teaching career in the Schenectady City School District where he taught science and served as department chair and administrator at Steinmetz Junior High, Steinmetz Middle School, Mont Pleasant Middle School, and at the alternative education center at Steinmetz.

26 - Joy M. Egan, 71, of West Harwich, MA died January 14, 2023 in Boston, MA. Born in Schenectady, NY, she was a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High, NYS University at Potsdam, and earned a Master of Science in Special Education at Russell Sage College. She taught in several NY schools, including Schoharie, before moving to Cape Cod in 1987. There, she established a lasting career at Dennis-Yarmouth School Systems, working in Special Education.

25 - Robert D. Chagnon, 90, has passed away at his retirement residence in West Virginia on Sunday, January 22, 2023. After service with the U.S. Army NATO Forces in Europe, Robert attended the State University of New York at New Paltz. He graduated in 1961 and taught three years at Van Antwerp School in Niskayuna. He then joined the Federal Government in Washington, D.C.

24 - Victoria A. Rickard (Vicki), 54, passed away on January 20, 2023. Born in Albany, NY on February 19, 1968, she graduated from The Belanger School of Nursing with a degree in nursing. She also drove a school bus for the Mohonasen school district and Brown Transportation, where she was known to make homemade Christmas gifts for her young passengers.

23 - Mary Theresa Roche Hooper, born on November 13, 1929, of Glenmont, passed away January 16, 2023. She attended the Academy of the Holy Names, and New York State College for Teachers (SUNY-Albany) in Albany. Theresa worked for, and retired from, SUNY-Albany's Registrar's Office in 1995, where she loved meeting and helping students.

22 - Barbra deAvila, of Queensbury, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 in her 59th year. Barb was a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and then continued her education at St. Rose College, where she earned her Master's Degree. She was a dedicated Special Education Teacher for 33 years at Hudson Falls School District. She had many students who became her extended family, proving she was much more than a teacher.

21 - Joyce C. Corcoran, 76 of Delmar, and formerly of Batavia, N.Y., passed away January 13, 2023. Her passion for plants and flowers fostered a successful nursery business for years and fed her soul for her lifetime. Her love of children led to her service as a substitute teacher in the Batavia City School District. Joyce also spent time as a real estate agent.

20 - William H. Meyer, 100, of Rexford passed away January 17, 2023. Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1940 until 1962 retiring at the rank of master sergeant. During World War II, Bill served honorably and courageously, seeing combat in both Australia and New Guinea. Bill was a dedicated teacher at Shaker High School in North Colonie where he taught social studies and later led the Audio-Visual Department. He retired in 1982 after 23 years of service to his community as an educator.

19 - Robert Blaine Stealey, 72, of Guilderland, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023. Robert enlisted in the Marines in 1968 and after his honorable discharge was an active member of the Marine Corps league. He worked hard for his family, often holding three jobs at a time, driving a truck as a card-carrying Teamster, driving a school bus and operating his hot dog cart at the Empire State Plaza.

18 - Dennis G. Mattison, Sr., 68, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2024. He was born March 12, 1954, in Cambridge, NY. Dennis first and foremost was devoted to his family, as a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a 1974 graduate of Greenwich Central School. He worked in various papermills throughout his life and retired from the Greenwich Central School District, with 16 years of service, working as a custodian.

17 - South Glens Falls - Jeanne "GG" Helen Nolan, 98, died Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She entered the workforce at Imperial in August 1942 at the age of 18 and stayed on for 43 years during the company's many transitions, first to Hercules then to Ciba-Geigy and finally to Novartis. She retired from Novartis in 1985 at the young age of 61. Never one to sit still for too long, Jeanne volunteered at Ballard School in South Glens Falls as a teacher aide in the kindergarten classrooms.

16 - James C. "Jimmer" Adams, 79, of Hudson Falls, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023. He was a graduate of St. Johns Academy and earned an Accounting degree in 1989 from Adirondack Community College. Jimmer joined the US Army, where he served as a Medical Corpsman from 1962-1965 in Texas and Korea. He was employed by Ciba-Geigy for 29 years as a Chemical Operator, and Adirondack Community College for 16 yes as senior custodian.

15 - Catherine Elizabeth (Freeman) Holmes, "Katey", 71, of Loudonville, passed into eternal life on January 13, 2023. Katey attended and graduated from Long Lake Central School and The College of St. Rose. Joining the teaching staff, Katey began a long and successful 30 year career as an Art teacher at Watervliet Junior-Senior High School. Beyond the classroom, Katey was faculty advisor to many groups, particularly, to the Watervliet High School Student Negotiating Team.

14 - Betty L. Safford, of Scotia, passed peacefully in her sleep on her 95th birthday, January 11, 2023. She was born in the beautiful Adirondacks of Wilmington, NY. A 1946 graduate of Lake Placid High School, she moved to the Capital Region area to attend Mildred Elley for secretarial school. Throughout her life, Betty was a hard worker who enjoyed helping others. She worked for various law firms and eventually for the Schenectady Central School District as a school secretary.

13 - Sally M. (Menegio) Nagay, 76, of Rotterdam, NY passed away Wednesday evening, January 11, 2023. She was born in Manhattan, NY on October 23, 1946. Sally was a graduate of Chatham Central Schools. She was first employed with Adirondack Trailways. She retired from the food services department at Mohonasen High School, Rotterdam. She was an amazing cook and loved to feed her family.

12 - Lois Lynn Wittbecker Atkinson, 85, of Niskayuna died January 12, 2023. She was a graduate of Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her primary and longest duration employment was teaching biology, which she loved, at SUNY Schenectady. She was honored to be able to serve many years working with the Home Furnishings Program of Schenectady and the Capital Region Jewish Coalition for Literacy - reading coach.

11 - Jane (Corbett) Floyd, of Huletts Landing, NY on Lake George, 79, passed away January 5, 2023. After graduating from college, Jane taught school in Honolulu, HI, Tacoma, WA and Annandale, VA. She eventually enrolled in the Fine Arts Program at Youngstown (Ohio) State University where she graduated with a BA degree and was hired on as a faculty member. She taught ceramics and sculpture there for many years.

10 - Ernest A. "Frosty" Izzo, 90, of Mechanicville, died Thursday, January 12, 2023. A graduate of Mechanicville High School and Brockport State University, Frosty served with the U.S. Army in Germany and France during the Korean War. Frosty was an elementary school teacher for 32 years in the Saratoga Springs School District, at the Division Street and Maple Avenue schools, retiring in 1994. During the summer break, Frosty was a sought after bartender at the annual Saratoga Race Track meet.

9 - John Joseph DiGesare, 85, of Syracuse, passed January 1st, 2023. John was born on September 22, 1937, in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1955 and attended Syracuse University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and ultimately earned a Master of Science in Art Education. As an educator for over 37 years in North Syracuse and Cicero-North Syracuse, John  taught art in many mediums, but the most valuable instruction came in the form of jokes and gentle encouragement.

8 - Harry Russell Guest, 89, of Loudonville, passed January 7, 2023. Harry was a graduate of Albany High School Class of 1952. He received both his bachelor and master's degree from Siena College. Harry was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. Reserves in 1962. He taught Social Studies in the South Colonie Schools most notably at Sand Creek Middle School for 33 years. Harry retired in 1996 and began to live his life-long dream of owning a place in Vail, Colo. so he could ski daily and join his sons.

7 - Donna Elaine Jeary Wolf passed away in Saratoga Springs in Jan, 2023, before the 11th. Donna was born Feb 12, 1944 in Batavia, New York. She spent more than 30 years as an educator. She completed her undergraduate training at SUNY Fredonia and received her graduate degree from Canisius College. She taught at Gallaudet School for the Deaf in Washington, DC, Rochester School for the Deaf in Rochester, NY, and the BOCES facility in Clifton Springs, NY. She spent over twenty years of her career as a special education teacher at Canandaigua City School District.

6 - Alice M. Kirtley, 98, of Albany, passed away at her home on Friday January 6, 2023. She was born in Cohoes on November 14, 1924. Alice attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Vincentian High School. She worked for many years in the Albany High School cafeteria, retiring at the age of 86. Alice was a true "people person" who could strike up a conversation with anyone.

5 - With great sadness, the family of Dennis G. Wood of Slingerlands, announces his death at his Florida home on January 6, 2023, at the age of 78. Dennis taught physical education at School 18 and Doyle Middle School in Troy and was a beloved teacher and coach. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marines.

4 - Sylvia C. Kohler, 96, of Saratoga Springs, passed away January 4, 2023. Sylvia was born on August 1, 1926, in White Plains, N.Y. After graduating from White Plains High School, Sylvia earned her bachelor's degree in physical education, from Cortland State Teachers College. Sylvia had a brief career as a physical education teacher in White Plains but spent much of her life as a homemaker raising seven children.

3 - Thelma J. (White) Beagle, 95, of Chittenango, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023. She was born on January 30, 1927 in South Onondaga, New York where she attended school and graduated high school. Thelma went to Powelson Business Institute. She was a resident of Chittenango, New York since 1954 and was employed by the Chittenango School District as a teacher's aide for many years, retiring in 1988.

2 - Genevieve Alfonsine (Pozzouli) Smith Merriam, 95, of Ticonderoga, died January 4, 2023. Gen attended Ticonderoga High School and lived in Ticonderoga most of her life. She was a friend to everyone. She traveled many miles with her husband Bob as Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 71 for various meetings and adventures for the Scouts. Gen worked as a waitress at local restaurants, and was also well known because of her many years working at the Ticonderoga High School cafeteria.

1 - Born on April 28, 1950, in Glens Falls, NY, Jay Schoelermann died on January 3, 2023. Following High School Jay enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972.  After 25 years with GE in Fort Edward he started his second career as a custodian with the Queensbury School District. After retiring from this job Jay worked at Queensbury as a part-time member of the buildings and grounds crew.
