Dorothy C. von Bieberstein, 88, of Valatie, passed away December 29, 2018. Upon her graduation from college in 1962, she accepted a position at Hudson High School, where she taught English. In 1985 it was time for Dorothy to join her husband in retirement.

Lorene Carol (Anderson) Appel, 77, of Colonie, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2018. Born in New Haven, Conn. on November 17, 1941, Lorene retired from the South Colonie School District.

Robert Hess Koff, 80, died in St. Louis, MO, on December 10, 2018. In 1980, he became dean of the College of Education at the State University of New York at Albany for 8 years..

Margaret Aileen Kane, 89, of Queensbury died December 27, 2018. Aileen was an elementary school teacher for almost 35 years. She taught in the Hadley-Luzerne School District, Keeseville and retired in 1985 after 17 years in the Queensbury district.

Frederick Louis "Chip" Rosasco, 76, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away December 24, 2018. He taught middle school art in the Niskayuna School System for 32 years including three years as the art department chair for the K-12 district wide program.

I. Linda Relyea, 78, of Ballston Lake, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018. She was a school bus driver for 31 years for the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School system.

Sharon Lynn Templer, 62, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. Sharon went on to work for the Schenectady City School District, where she was a Paraprofessional.

Daniel B. Walsh, 83, of Albany, passed away on December 21, 2018. Dan was a native of Olean, N.Y. and served a two-year Army tour in Korea. The next nine years, he taught and coached basketball at Archbishop Walsh and Franklinville Central Schools.

Ann L. Benny, 94, of Scotia, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018. Ann worked as a teacher's aide for many years until her retirement in 1980.

Sergeant Major Robert T. Mudge, Retired, 86, of Voorheesville, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Robert enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1992 with a combined 42 years of active duty and reserve service. He was a school teacher for several school districts and retired in 1986 after 25 years of teaching for the Albany City School District.

Joseph F. Marcelli, 92, of Granville and Troy, died Thursday, December 20, 2018. Dr. Marcelli was dean of Physical and Health Sciences at Hudson Valley Community College from November 1956 until his retirement in December 1984.

Marion D. Luther Pezzulo, 96, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018. After World War II she a became a school teacher at St. Anthony's Grade School in Albany. She also worked as a substitute teacher in the Albany Public Schools.

Genevieve “Ginny” Smith, 75, of Colonie, died Friday, December 21, 2018. Ginny worked for the South Colonie School District for 20 years before retiring in 2000.

Dorothy Fitzgerald Nealon, of Madison, Connecticut, previously of Schenectady and Troy, passed away December 14, 2018. A longtime teacher, Dorothy was employed by the Schenectady School District during a period of labor unrest in September, 1975, and had many stories to tell of the 3 week strike and resulting jailing experience.

Doris Vater Ward, 87, of Albany, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Doris taught science and mathematics at schools in New York and Massachusetts as well as the Lagos Anglican Grammar (secondary) School in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa.

Hendrik J. "Rik" Werkman, 67, of Castleton, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018. He was a teacher at the Center for Disability Services, a tutor at the Learning Center of Albany and was a Spanish and German teacher at Albany High School.

Gerry A. Secor, 79, of North Albany, passed away December 17, 2018. For over 20 years, she was a fixture on the corner of North First and North Pearl Streets as the school crossing guard.

Lewis H. Clarke of Albany departed this life on Friday, December 14, 2018. He became a biology teacher and then Dean at Charles Evans Hughes High School (NYC). He became a biology and chemistry professor at New York University. He was elevated to serve as Dean at SUNY Old Westbury College for many years.

Fredric S. Wildman, 71, of East Greenbush, died on Sunday evening, December 16, 2018. Fred began his work life teaching at John Marshall Intermediate School (NYC) in 1968, moved on to a 10-year post at Lincoln High School (NYC),and after his retirement, began his association with Hudson Valley Community College, where he taught math.

Kathryn M. Hillmann, 87, of Delanson, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018. After retiring from the Duanesburg School District she organized bus trips for the Duanesburg Senior Citizens.

Martin N. Ainspan, 89, of Albany, died Monday, December 17, 2018. He worked as a music teacher with the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District where he taught elementary, middle school, and high school students, led and conducted the district's orchestras, bands, and choirs until he retired from teaching in 1988.

Robert P. Goyer, 62, of Rensselaer, died Friday, December 14, 2018. Bob was a custodian for the Enlarged City School District of Troy for 31 years, retiring in 2014.

David C. Rees, 92, of Delmar passed away on December 12, 2018. Dr. Rees proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He started his own general practice in Delmar, and also served as a SUNY Albany Physician for many years during his career.

Warren H. Enos, 92, of Colonie, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018. Warren served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Kenton in the Pacific. He retired from the South Colonie School District as a maintenance mechanic.

After graduating from Siena, his first head coaching job was Maple Hill High School in Castleton followed by teaching and coaching at Russell Sage College, the Sage Junior College of Albany (JCA), and finally being head coach and athletic director of Siena College.

Nicholas S. Moreno, 79, of East Greenbush, entered into eternal life on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Mr. Moreno retired from the Brittonkill Central School District, where he had been a teacher at Tamarac High School for over 30 years.

Barbara Elizabeth Brundage, 88, of Albany, died December 7, 2018. Barbara began her career teaching home economics at Livingston High School in Albany, then became a guidance counselor at Mohonasen High followed by her position as Director of Guidance at Ballston Spa High School, until her retirement in 1992.

Marie F. Shannon, 77, of Schenectady, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. When her sons were all of school age, she returned to the work force in the Galway School system.

James Richard Hughes, 90, of Liliburn, GA, died on November 11, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War then continued his service in the Air National Guard. Jim taught music education and supervised student music teachers for Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in New York from 1974-1997.

Edward Hallock Ball, 78, of Glenmont, died November 18, 2018. Edward started out teaching elementary school in Louisville, Ky., and Spain where he taught elementary science at the American School of Madrid for two years, and Winnetka, Ill.

Garrett W. Murphy, 87, of W. Dover, NH,  died November 26, 2018. He served in the U.S. Army in Austria from 1954-1956. In 1961, Garrett served as an elementary school teacher and taught evening classes to adults. The City School District of Albany charged him with creating the Albany Adult Learning Center where he served as director from 1964 to 1979.

During her education career she taught at Marathon Central School; Barry Elementary School in Cortland; Corning Free Academy; Hillsdale Public Schools in Hillsdale, N.J.; Oneonta City Schools; and Marist College.

William "Billy" Pierce, 75, of Gloversville, died Saturday, December 12, 2018. In his early 20s, Bill taught physics at Cleveland Hill High School in Cheektowaga, NY, before moving to Johnstown, NY, in 1968 and beginning his 35-year career at Fulton-Montgomery Community College as an Administrator, Advisor in the Student Counseling Center, and Professor.

Anthony Paul Onorato, 92, of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away December 1, 2018.  Upon graduating from high school, Mr. Onorato proudly served in the United States Army during WW II. Anthony worked as a teacher for the Scotia Glenville High School for over 25 years, until his retirement in 1981.

Joseph Paul Tuohey of Albany passed away November 30, 2018, at the age of 87. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. Joe was a lifelong educator, first at Siena College and then at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School where he taught English until his retirement in 1994.

Carolyn Peacock Krause, of Troy, born on May 9, 1940, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Carolyn worked at Brittonkill Central Schools (now Brunswick), where she was first a math teacher and later a guidance counselor.

David C. Rossiter of Castleton died Tuesday, November 27, 2018. David started his teaching at Hadley-Luzerne Central School and then continued onto the East Greenbush Central School where he taught industrial arts, tech and mechanical drawing, retiring after 32 years.

Joseph R. Herman, 85, of Cohoes, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having been stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. He taught at Forts Ferry Elementary School in the North Colonie Central School District from 1955-1988. Joe was very active in Retiree Council 10 of the New York State United Teachers.

Alfred Charles DiCesare, 91, of Slingerlands, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Al was an electrician's mate in the Navy at the end of World War II. He started his teaching career at the Tri-Valley School in Grahamsville, N.Y. as a business education teacher and a guidance counselor  and retired as assistant superintendent for Human Resources for Newburgh in 1990.

Barbara Kellogg, 78, of Clifton Park, died on Wednesday Nov. 28, 2018. She retired as an Administrative Assistant for the medical director at the health center  at SUNY in Albany, NY.   She had served there for more than 30 years.

Jacqueline V. Swatt died Nov. 24, 2018. Jackie taught special education for Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES in the Nelliston, St. Johnsville and Gloversville school systems. She went on to run the Resource Center for HFM BOCES which developed workshops and provided tools for area special needs programs.

Bobbie Marie (Bernstein) Anker, 58, of Saranac Lake, passed away November 19, 2018. She began her professional career in Student Services at North Country Community College (NCCC) where she served for 31 years. Bobbie retired as Director of Campus and Student Life in 2016.

Kristine A. Barkley, 55, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Kristine was born in Cobleskill and worked as a registered nurse for SUNY Albany. She was a volunteer with the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society at Scotia Glenville High School for 10 years, raising over a million dollars.

Madeleine Armande Baillargeon LeCours, 85, of Glenmont, died Thursday, November 22, 2018. In 1972, she began teaching nursing and nurse assisting for the Saratoga BOCES. She was later asked to develop a comparable educational program at the Warren/Washington BOCES, where she taught from 1979 to 1992.

Daniel C. Thomas Jr., 75, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018. He began teaching in the Guilderland High School History Department in 1966, also coaching Lacrosse and Football, retiring in 1999..

Mary T. O'Brien, 80, of Troy, passed away on November 19, 2018, just a day short of her 81st birthday. Born in Troy, and a lifelong area resident, Mary had a long and diverse employment history including working for School 2 in Troy, as a "lunch lady."

Walter A Cross Jr., 85, of East Greenbush, N.Y. and Daytona Beach, Fla., passed November 13, 2018. He taught auto mechanics at Manpower in Albany and was an assistant professor at Hudson Valley Community College for 30 years. At HVCC he ran the engine lab and was the Northeast Technical Director for Plymouth AAA Trouble Shooting Contest.

 Beacher E. Anders, 66, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Mr. Anders relocated to Albany in 2008, and shortly after, began working at Durham School Services as a school bus monitor.

Carol A. Alcombright, 84, of East Greenbush, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018. She was the candy and fudge lady of the East Greenbush School Cafeteria.

Ernest W. "Ernie" Fountain, 75, of Schenectady, died November 17, 2018. Ernie was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and was employed as a head custodian for the Niskayuna School District for 34 years.

Hazel M. Bolt, 89, of Menands, NY, passed away 16 November 2018. Born on the family farm in Walton, NY, she was the secretary of Menands Elementary School for 21 years.

Sabatine V. "Stubby" Brandoline, 95, formerly of Schenectady, passed on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Born in Schenectady, Sabatine joined the US Army in 1943 and served in Europe with the 225th AAA Searchlight Battalion. He drove School Bus for the Duanesburg School District for many years while working at GE and after he retired.

Marlene Mendelson, 80, of Schenectady, NY, passed away November 15, 2018. Marlene was a lifelong teacher, both as a reading and ESL teacher in Schenectady City Schools and as a volunteer docent at the Schenectady Museum.

Diane Isenberg, 75, of Slingerlands, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018. She began her teaching career with the Schalmont Central School District and then later with the Bethlehem Central School District until her retirement, where she was instrumental in the creation of the remedial math program at the elementary level.

James "Jim" Gallas, 88, formerly of Albany, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018. He was an educator in the Ravena-Coeymans School District and later the South Colonie School District, where he was an active member of the Teachers' Association In South Colonie, he was a mathematics teacher at Lisha Kill and Sand Creek Middle Schools. During the Korean War, Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was a member of NYSUT and the NYSUT Retiree Council 10.

Harriet Conant Dearden, 100, died at Manchester Center, Vermont, Sunday, November 4, 2018. Born April 9, 1918 in Amsterdam, New York, she was a gifted musician. During the WWII years she taught public school music in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey and then accepted a post at the Western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio.

Douglas Krueger of North Fort Myers, Fla. passed on November 3, 2018. Doug was born on February 29, 1932, in Schenectady. Doug served on active duty with the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of first lieutenant. He began his teaching career of over 30 years at Scotia-Glenville, Albany and Schenectady City schools and later at BOCES.

After service, Ed began his career in teaching at St. Teresa of Avila School in Albany and then in the South Colonie Central School District, retiring in 1986.

She taught at the elementary level in the Chicago Public Schools as a member of Teach for America. Since 2011, Annie has been a teacher at Achievement First Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY, where she has taught at the second and fourth grade levels.

Dr. Quick spent the majority of his professional career working in the Schenectady Public School system as a teacher, guidance counselor, psychologist & principal. Custer also held the position of Superintendent at Galway Central School, ending his career as the Director of Albany-Schoharie-Schenectady BOCES.

Sandra E. (Sandy) Gardner, 74, of Ballston Spa, passed away November 7, 2018. Sandy attended SUNY Plattsburgh, where she studied to become a registered nurse. Her career included time at Voorheesville High School, Scotia Glenville High School and for many years as the Health Care Coordinator at the Charlton School for Girls in Charlton, New York.

James R. Gordon, 59, of Latham, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Jim was a special education teacher with the Schenectady City School District, retiring in 2016 after 33 years of dedicated service.

Donald Edgar Blodgett of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the age of 88. Don was a former U.S. Marine Corps Corporal, serving in the Korean War from July 1947 to July 1950. He was an Albany City United Traction Company bus driver for eight years and then drove a school bus for the Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar for 30-plus years.

Francis P. Hodge, 87, of Albany, passed away on the morning of November 5, 2018. He accepted a teaching position in Gouverneur, N.Y. Eventually Frank taught at  SUNY Albany where he worked as a professor in the Education/Reading Department until he retired. Frank is best known for the little children's bookstore he opened at 272 Lark Street, Hodge-Podge Books.

Beverly Maszdzen, 62, of Albany, departed this World on Thursday, October 25, 2018. After many dedicated years at the Center for Disability Services, Beverly joined Capital Region BOCES in September of 1991. Bev spent the last several years working with the students and staff at the Maywood School.

William L. "Bill" Staats, of East Greenbush, passed on November 4, 2018. He taught secondary school in Chatham and in Hudson. In 1961, Mr. Staats began his accounting teaching career at Hudson Valley Community College, where he became full professor and chairman of the Accounting and the Business Administration departments and established the Personal Computer course at H.V.C.C., which over the years enrolled thousands of students.

Patricia Kathryn (Doran) Villa, 63, of Albany, died Thursday, October 18, 2018. Her teaching career began in Massachusetts in 1978 and ended 38 years later upon her retirement from Brittonkill Central Schools.

Lorraine (Milstrey) Gabler, of Grand Island, Florida, passed away February 26, 2018 in Collierville, Tennessee where her daughter lives. She was born on May 15, 1933. Lorraine taught Home Economics at Sand Creek Middle School in the South Colonie Central School District.

John S. Spezzaferro passed away October 28, 2018. John was born on May 23, 1975 and for more than 15 years, taught English at Schenectady High School. He was active in the teachers' union as a building representative and a delegate to statewide union meetings.

From 1951 to 1954, Bob served in the Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division in the Korean War, and the USMC reserves in the 1960s. Ken's coaching career spanned four decades in three states and began as a high school coach in Hulbert, Mich. located in the Upper Peninsula. He returned to New York State to coach high school in Belleville, N.Y. In 1963, his career turned to college basketball coaching at East Stroudsburg State College in Pennsylvania, at Lafayette College, and at Roberts Wesleyan College (Rochester).

He was employed by the Greater Johnstown School District for 30 years. During his career, Milt taught high school Biology and Health, was Assistant Principal and then Principal of Knox Junior High School from 1970 through 1979.

William Morrison, 95, of Vooheesville, passed away October 5, 2018. Bill was born in Girvan, Scotland on September 28, 1923. Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1943 as a member of the elite skiing troops of the 10th Mountain Division. After the war, he taught elementary school in Portland, Ore. for two years before returning to the east coast. He taught at Slingerlands Elementary School in the Bethlehem School District and at the new Middle School in the District as a sixth grade teacher, retiring from full-time teaching in 1986.

After completing his service, he was an educator for several years in the United States Virgin Islands. He taught third and fifth grade, retiring in 1987. He was the track photographer at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, at the Fonda Speedway and at the Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Edward N. Gifford died on July 4, 2018. Edward was born in Schenectady on April 6, 1924. He served in the Army in WWII in both Europe and the Pacific. After a short stint teaching in Rhinebeck, NY, he moved back to Schenectady and was President and chief searcher at Gifford Abstract Corporation, which he ran for 33 years.

During World War II, she worked as a messenger for the French Resistance and as the "Dear Abby" of the magazine, "Movie Stars." She taught French at Pearl River High School in the 1960's. Mimi later taught French at the Academy of the Holy Names from1999-2013, where she was known by all her students as "Madame."

He began teaching in California in 1955, and in the next 35 years he was a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in California schools. In 1986, he retired from education and began working with people with disabilities through Living Resources. When he retired in 2012, he was the manager of the Employment Program.

Orlando Joseph "Lon" Pallozzi, 92, a longtime Waterford resident, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Lon enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II immediately following his eighteenth birthday. Lon taught English and French and eventually served as a guidance counselor at his alma mater in Waterford for 32 years before retiring in 1986. From 1986 to 1989 he was a guidance counselor at Catholic Central High School.

Joseph A. "Coach" Purello, 95, of East Greenbush, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018. Joe was a decorated World War II veteran who flew 32 missions including D-Day aboard a B-17 "Flying Fortress" as a radioman and gunner. Joe began his career at Albany High School as a coach before moving across town to Philip Schuyler as both coach and teacher. In 1967 he became coach and director of Athletics at Hudson Valley Community College, retiring in 1986.

Robert Hill, 91, passed away in Viera, FL on April 5, 2018. In 1944 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served until 1946. After teaching two years in Troy, NY he became one of the original faculty of the Shenendehowa Central School District, founding the soccer program at Shenendehowa.

Ray's teaching career spanned 34 years in elementary school assignments, including Giffen Memorial Elementary School and Philip Schuyler Elementary School, where he taught classes in special education for many years. John "Red" Parkinson, 89, of Petersburgh, N.Y., died April 7, 2018. He was born November 27, 1928, and was the last surviving member of Frozen Chosin Reservoir weapons company 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines and the first Marine division 1950-1952. He drove for the Berlin Central School District for ten years and retired at the young age of 80.

Walter Leon Pryne, 89, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018. Born on May 21, 1928 in Utica, he was a Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Midway from 1946-1951. He became a department chairman and teacher of the Industrial Arts Department at Scotia High School, while also teaching driver ed, retiring in 1988 after 34 years of service.

He served as an electronics warfare officer on B-52s and eventually as commander of the Schenectady Communications Flight at Stratton Air National Guard Base. For most of his career, though, he was an industrial arts teacher at Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake Central School.

Joseph Anton Bena, 79, of Alplaus, passed February 17, 2018. Joe joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving from 1956 to 1959. In 1966, he began to teach Industrial Arts in Newburgh, N.Y. While there, he began a parallel career as a wrestling coach. After building a strong team at Newburgh Free Academy in three years, he began teaching Industrial Arts at Niskayuna High School, where he continued to coach wrestling with great success.

Enid Eiry Morris, 91, of Hamilon, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018. She was born in Bancffosfelen, Wales. After receiving a teaching certificate from Llandrindod Teachers College she taught in the experimental program in Maesteg establishing a Welsh School in an area where English had become the primary language. This is a program that now has wide acceptance in Welsh Education. She was the First Lady of Union College in Schenectady while her husband, John served as its President.

Joyce (Haire) Foley passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2018. Joyce was employed at the Lynwood School in the Guilderland School District, in Guilderland, NY for 34 years, as a teacher of 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students. Perhaps Joyce's most treasured volunteer work centered around giving comfort to other cancer patients by organizing a "Ms. Joy Bear Project". "Joy Bears" are decorated teddy bears that were hand decorated by the 150 women who were recruited by Joyce to decorate and distribute these bears to give comfort to men, women and children cancer patients undergoing various stages of treatment. After a modest beginning over 3600 bears have been distributed in the Naples area, other parts of Florida as well as in New York and Georgia. The program is run in the New York Capital District by Retiree Council 10 of NYSUT.

Mary Elizabeth Powers Meachem, 89, of Schenectady, died February 7, 2018. She worked and volunteered as a librarian for many years at various schools, including: Hoosick Falls, Coxsackie Athens Central School, Bishop Gibbons, St. Paul the Apostle, and St. Luke's. In the 1970's Mary began working with the Oswald D. Heck Center to help those with mental and physical disabilities. She retired as the main librarian for the NY state office of the Association of Retarded Citizens in 2015, after 30 years of service.

Domenica J. Razzano Krakat, 92, of Watervliet, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, left school early to help raise her brothers and sister. During World War II, she made Army blankets in Cohoes. After her children were raised, she returned to work as the cafeteria manager at Watervliet High School, where she was employed for over 20 years before retiring. She also was a presenter in continuing education courses in cafeteria management.

John “Jack” P. Harrison Jr., 90, passed away January 31, 2018. Jack served in the United States Coast Guard. He began teaching music in the Scotia-Glenville school system in 1953 and went on to be a guidance counselor at Scotia-Glenville High School during the 1960's and '70's. Subsequently, Jack worked at the NYS Bureau of Guidance, retiring in 1985.

Alan Gordon Robertson, 89, of Delmar, passed away on January 8, 2018. Alan taught seventh and eighth grades in the New York City schools before becoming director of guidance in a Nassau Long Island school district. He later was the bureau chief of NYS Vocational Technical Research and statewide director of Education Program Evaluation for many years.

Jude Ryan Schnellbaecher, 80, of North Greenbush, passed away January 14, 2018. She taught in the Troy City School District, and worked at the Rensselaer County Junior Museum and the New York State Unified Court System, retiring in 2003.

Marilyn (Hughes) Foley, 80, of Schenectady, passed away on January 13, 2018. Marilyn taught fourth grade in Randolph, Mass., at the Elizabeth G. Lyons Elementary School. She later relocated to Albany and taught elementary school and substituted in the North Colonie Public Schools.

Shana (Salecker) Marra, 44, of Castleton, left this world Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Shana was a special education teacher at Lisha Kill Middle School in South Colonie for 21 years. She was a leading supporter of students through the Lisha Kid Fund and strongly encouraged school wide participation in Toys for Tots.

William Carmen Halse, 81, of Watervliet, died Friday, January 12, 2018. He joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. He was lastly employed by the North Colonie School District as a bus driver.

Bertha Greenhut, 98, of Falmouth, Maine, died January 11, 2018. Born in New York City on March 18, 1919, she was a dedicated teacher who taught for 25 years at P.S. 202 in Brooklyn, as a reading specialist.

Dominick A. DeSimone, 84, of Schenectady, passed away January 12, 2018. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Dom had a long tenure as an educator with the Shenendehowa, Schalmont, and Cobleskill Central School Districts.

Zelda S. Zeh, of Colonie, passed away on January 8, 2018. Zelda was born in Brooklyn and moved to Gloversville, N.Y. in her youth. Zelda was employed by Capital Region BOCES as a teacher of the hearing impaired.

Josephine C. Piracci, 70, of Saratoga Springs passed away January 1, 2018. She was a Home Economics teacher at Watervliet High School for six years, before taking time off to start her family. She later began her career as a librarian, and retired from the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library in March 2008.

Bob Carlson, 80, of Schaghticoke, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Born in Hartford, Conn., Bob was owner and operator of Viewmere Farm in Schaghticoke, for over 50 years. He was also a school bus driver with the Hoosic Valley Central School District.

Betty (Elizabeth) Seaman (Surento), of Galway, passed away on January 10, 2018. She pursued a career in Nursing for 40 plus years. Her two favorite positions were on 3 West Orthopedics, at the former St. Clare’s Hospital, and as the middle/high school nurse for Galway Central School.

Bruce A. Carrara, 58, of Niskayuna, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Bruce received his Associates degree from HVCC. He worked as an instructor at BOCES, teaching his master skills in small engine repairs.

Kenneth Posson, 87, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday January 9, 2018. He served in the Air Force in the military police at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. In the 1960’s after the loss of children in a Carman Fire District (Rotterdam, NY) house fire, Ken worked to develop the first “Babysitting Safety” course in NY State. He was an Adjunct Professor at Schenectady Community College where he taught Fire Investigation.

Rosemary Miorin, 67, of Peru, NY and previously of Troy, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Rosemary worked for Hudson Valley Community College and ended her career in 2009, retiring from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh.

She ran disabled ski programs at both Windham Mountain and Gore Mountain and also spent much of her time volunteering at Double H Hole in the Woods. She had fulfilling career as a physical education teacher at Salem High School and Hoosic Valley Central Schools.
