229 - Virginia Rovelli, "Ginny," 88, of Glenville, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022. At the age of 18, Virginia entered the Sisters of Mercy in Albany. She eventually became a first grade teacher, receiving her bachelor's degree in education from the State University of Albany. After 16 years as a Sister of Mercy, Virginia made the difficult decision to request dispensation of her vows and moved back into the world as a layperson. In 1972, Virginia received her doctorate in education from The State University of Albany where she went on to become an adjunct professor for several years. Dr. Rovelli was hired by the Ballston Spa School District as the director of reading for elementary education. It was in this role that Dr. Rovelli became a true mentor, leader, teacher, and friend to many.

228 - Janet P. Parker, 76 of Clifton Park, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022. Born on August 13, 1945, she spent her career as a teacher in Saratoga Springs at Dorothy Nolan Elementary School and Lake Avenue Elementary School for over 36 years. She enjoyed working at the Ellms Family Farm during the fall season, and was an avid scrapbooker. She loved spending her summers at Hearthstone Point Campground in Lake George, where her husband was the campground supervisor for 36 years.

227 - Leonora A. Flynn, 96, of Schenectady, died on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Leonora was born in Cicero, Ill. She was a graduate of the former St. Adalbert Elementary School and Mont Pleasant High School. Leonora worked at IGE and later for the Schenectady School District. Subsequently, she was a dispatcher for Union College Security, retiring in 1989.

226 - Elizabeth Ann Sherman, 81, of Niskayuna, passed away on June 27, 2022. Betty was born on January 20, 1941, grew up in Rotterdam and graduated from Draper High School in 1959. She went on to earn her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from St. Rose College. Elizabeth taught in the South Colonie Central School District for 33 years, beginning her career teaching first grade and later fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. She loved teaching and often shared many fond memories of her former students and colleagues. She retired in 1995. She loved to travel, and with her beloved husband Jay she did so extensively. More recently she and Jay decided to live full-time in Niskayuna so that they could spend more time with their grandchildren, who were the absolute light of her life.

225 - Judith Anita (Apfel) DeBlasio, 66, of Myrtle Beach, NC, died on June 20, 2022. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., a graduate of Linton High School, Judy had a successful craft business for many years and later worked on staff in the BH-BL School District. Relocating to Florida in 2004 where she worked for Walt Disney World, she moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, in 2018. Judy was an avid shopper, a great cook and baker, and loved to keep in touch over the phone.

224 - Lucy H. McKelvy, 95, of Howes Cave died on Monday, June 20, 2022. Born July 9, 1926, in Cuba, NY, she received her business degree from Bryant and Stratton School of Business in 1945. She spent the next 20 years raising her family and in 1966, she, her husband and family moved to Howes Cave. In 1967 she became a payroll officer for SUNY Cobleskill retiring in 1988, after 21 years of service.

223 - Daniel L. Makely, Jr., 73, of Laconia, New Hampshire died Sunday, June 19, 2022. Daniel was born on October 11, 1948, in Albany, N.Y. Dan graduated from New England College with his bachelors in Education. He then furthered his education receiving his masters degree from Plymouth State College. He was an elementary school teacher in the Shaker Regional School District in Belmont, NH for 35 years. He was the coordinator for the math team at Belmont Elementary School. Dan loved anything to help others out, and spent a lot of time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to New York and spending time with his family there.

222 - Burrill P. Burke, 85 of Halfmoon, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022. He earned his B.S. from Siena College, and did graduate work at N.Y.U. Burrill spent his career as a teacher, beginning at Mechanicville High School, teaching biology, physics, and chemistry. He then moved onto Waterford-Halfmoon schools, continuing to teach sciences in grades seventh to twelfth. He served as a class advisor and science department chair. His teaching journey then led him to Shaker High School where he taught biology for over 25 years, also serving as a class advisor and took on many leadership roles in the Teacher's Association as president and chief negotiator for teachers contracts. He was a fierce advocate for teachers advancing their professional role. He retired from Shaker in 1992.

221 - Richard Wood Loomis, 81, passed June 17, 2022. Richard attended South Otselic Central School and the State University of New York College at Cortland, where he studied education and played varsity football and lacrosse. Richard taught physical education at Medina High School for 3 years and then at Morrisville-Eaton High School for 32 years, during which he coached junior high and high school sports including football, basketball and track. Richard also coached college football at Hamilton College, where he served as offensive coordinator for several years.

220 - Longtime Capital District resident Volker Mohnen, 85, passed away in Germany on June 5, 2022. Volker was an American and German research scientist and educator born on March 11, 1937, in Germany. Volker came to the U.S. as a research associate in the newly-established Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) at the State University of New York at Albany. During an illustrious career there, he matriculated to a senior research scientist and professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, eventually becoming ASRC Director. In the early 1980s, Volker was selected as a member of a National Academy of Sciences Panel to advise the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency about acid rain. Subsequently, he was one of five scientists selected to personally advise President Ronald Reagan and other executive branch officials about policies related to acid rain. Volker was an avid aircraft pilot who regularly used his personal airplane to collect water from clouds and to study acid rain and atmospheric pollution throughout Upstate N.Y. and the Adirondacks. He was featured on PBS Nova Scientific television programs, where his innovative methods for collecting and analyzing cloud and rainwater were featured.

219 - Diane Tucci Hamilton, 56, of Delmar, passed away on June 22, 2022. Her husband's work led her family to the Albany area in 1992, where she remained connected to the teaching field as a private tutor. However, her most important work began when her daughter's school was no longer able to provide an appropriate education and planned to bus her to a distant facility. Instead, Diane developed a home instruction program for her daughter that included a fully equipped classroom, field trips, cultural studies, and social activities. During her ten years as a homeschool teacher, Diane also provided advocacy and consulting services for students with disabilities, and was president of the Northern New York Chapter of the Tourette Syndrome Association. In 2008, she began work as a research specialist at SUNY Albany, while also attending graduate classes there. She earned an M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology in 2014, and received her Ph.D. in Literacy Teaching and Learning in 2016. Over the last ten years, Diane held several positions in instructional design at Open SUNY and SUNY Albany, most recently with the Online Teaching and Learning Initiative.

218 - James S. Merrill, 90 of Valatie, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022. He attended Siena College on a basketball scholarship before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Jim received his master's degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Plattsburgh. Known as "Hooks" Merrill in his hometown of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Jim was a member of the 1955-1956, undefeated championship Plattsburgh State basketball team. Jim began his teaching career in Long Island. In 1968, he moved to Chatham, N.Y. Jim retired after 19 years of service as a teacher and principal from Taconic Hills School District where he also coached golf and girls basketball.

217 - Donald J. "Pudgie" Berthiaume, 90, of Clifton Park, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022. Don graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in 1949 and many years later was inducted into their Baseball Hall of Fame. Don worked for the Town of Colonie for 54 Years as the Stoney Creek Reservoir Patrolman. He also served as the Chief Town Constable for The Town of Clifton Park and Court Officer for Town of Halfmoon for many years. Throughout his career, he worked many jobs to support his family, including the powerhouse on the Mohawk River in Vischer Ferry, as a School Bus Driver for the Shenendehowa Central School District and his own business, Don's Septic Service before finally retiring in 2017.

216 - Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Mullaney of Saratoga Springs passed away June 10, 2022. Mary Lou was born in Troy, on June 8, 1932 and grew up in Watervliet. She graduated from the first keypunch operating class out of BOCES and continued as one of the first certified keypunch educators. She was employed by the Saratoga Springs school system for 20 years where her contributions in the payroll office are legendary to this day. Mary Lou then opened a boutique on Broadway. She not only dressed women in our community for over 30 years, her shop became a community gathering place and safe haven for women.

215 - David C. True, Sr., of Saratoga Springs passed away at his home on June 18, 2022. He was born on October 28, 1932, in Syracuse, N.Y. and served his country in the United States Army in a military police unit stationed in Albuquerque, N.M. from 1954-1956, Following his honorable discharge in 1956, he began his graduate studies at Syracuse University, eventually earning his Master of Science degree in Education in 1960. His teaching career began in the Delevan-Machias school district in rural western New York. In 1959, Dave moved to Norwich, N.Y. where he spent the next 42 years. David taught physical education in the middle school, coached varsity baseball for 25 years, coached seventh and eighth grade football for 10 years and taught health education in summer school a few years. He retired from teaching in 1991 after 35 years. At his retirement dinner it was made clear he was respected and liked by his colleagues, his students, and players.

214 - Phyllis J. Hoffman, 79, of Stillwater, died June 16, 2022. Born in Watertown on August 6, 1942, Phyllis held various jobs throughout her life and most recently worked as a teacher's aide at Stillwater High School. At home she enjoyed gardening and had amazing knowledge about the many varieties of flowers she grew. She was also very talented in arts and crafts, sewing, embroidery and more. She made blankets for all of her grandchildren as keepsakes as well as beautiful wreaths and bouquets that she would share with family and friends.

213 - Kimberly Anne (Ashbey) Mashhadi, 58, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. Born in Gloversville, Kim attended Mayfield Elementary and High Schools. Kim then attended FMCC, University of Rhode Island, and The College of Saint Rose. She acquired her Masters in Social Work and Masters in Teaching, before becoming a teacher at Mayfield Elementary School. Kim was deeply devoted to her family and her students. Teaching was much more than a career to her; she would always refer to her students as “her own kids.” She always enjoyed her morning runs and worked her way up to running half-marathons and Ragnar races. She was an avid bowler and traveled to compete at state level.

212 - Jacquelyn "Jackie" (Wolf) Birch, 80, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022. Jackie was born in New York City and had lived in Niskayuna since 1981. Jackie was a graduate of Mother Cabrini High School, Hunter College, Fordham University, and the University of Bridgeport, North Adams. She worked as an English teacher and guidance counselor at Rye Neck High School, Linton High School, Bethlehem and South Colonie High Schools. Subsequently, she was a district wide administrator, retiring from the South Colonie School District. She was a Proctors Guild president and member of the Sunnyview Hospital Auxiliary Board and longtime member of the Pinehaven Country Club.

211 - Nancy Jean Brouwer, 73 of Clifton Park, passed Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Nancy was born on August 28, 1948, in Nashua, N.H. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1966. Nancy was a devoted employee of the Shenendehowa School District where she worked for 26 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her career and made many friends before retiring in January of 2020.

210 - Wayne Sexton Hess, 83, passed on March 29, 2022, in Naples, Fla. He was born in Oneonta, N.Y. on February 12, 1939. Upon graduating from Oneonta High School, he enlisted and served four years in the United States Air Force in New Mexico and Thule, Greenland. He went on to receive degrees and certification from the State University at Delhi, Oneonta, and Cortland. His educational career included serving as a business teacher at Laurens, Walton, and Andes Central Schools and in educational administration at Andes Central School retiring as superintendent at Morris Central School. He also served as councilman and supervisor of the Town of Laurens.

209 - Steven S. Rosenberg, 70 of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away on June 11, 2022. Steven graduated from John Bowne High School in Flushing, N.Y. and later earned a teaching degree from the City University of New York. Early in his career, he worked as a freelance auto and body mechanic and then became a teacher of automotive services for 14 years at Boys & Girls High School in Brooklyn. He later worked as a counselor for the Eagleton School in Great Barrington, Mass. and the Desisto School in West Stockbridge, Mass. until his retirement.

208 - Harriet Stockhoff, 83 of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on May 26, 2022. Harriet was born in Brooklyn on January 18, 1939. She attended high school in New Jersey in mid-1950s and graduated from Hope College with the class of 1960. Harriet worked at the East Greenbush Central School District for 30 years where she was a special-needs teacher's aide and union president. She enjoyed participating in her churches' choirs, serving as church elder, as well as youth leader together with her husband. Harriet held a special fondness for dogs.

207 - Joan Allis Campbell Lucius died on April 15, 2022, in Hayward, California. She was born on May 29, 1959 in Niskayuna, New York. Joanie was a gifted artist her entire life, developing her talent in the Niskayuna Central School District, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. She received a BA and a California Teaching Credential in Art from California State University East Bay, and a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts from the University of California Berkeley. Joanie was an art teacher in the Hayward Unified School District for the past 15 years. During her tenure she shared her love of art with all of her students. She will be greatly missed by both the faculty and the students.

206 - Sally Lou Peyrebrune (nee Warboys), of Delmar, departed this world for heaven on June 12, 2022. Sally was born in 1938 in Batavia, N.Y. She earned her Bachelor of Science in education from SUNY Buffalo in 1960, and she spent much of her teaching career working with disabled students. Sally found time to continue this work by advocating for support for disabled kids as an elected member and vice president of the Regional Board of Cooperative Education. Later, as assistant to the Commissioner within the State of New York's Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Sally oversaw as project director a yearly art exhibit, Exceptional Artworks, that included partnerships with art galleries across the state and featured works created by disabled adults.

205 - Carole Quinn of Averill Park passed away on June 7, 2022, at the age of 79. After graduating from Hoosic Valley Central School, she attended Cortland College. Being raised on a dairy farm, she knew the value of hard work and had a love of the land and animals, particularly horses. Carole held many jobs over the years including working at restaurants, cooking at 4H camp, the post office as well as driving a school bus just as her father had. She made many lifelong friends in all of these positions throughout her life. Her farm, Sunrise Hill Farm in Averill Park, was her last home before she started traveling to Florida for the winter months.

204 - Kenneth R. Nelson, 84, of Scotia, NY, passed away on May 20, 2022. Born in Camden, NJ, on Nov 11, 1937, Ken earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA, in 1960. He earned his Master of Arts in Music and Conducting from Trenton State College, NJ, in 1963. Ken taught music in the Pennridge School District, PA, and in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District, until retiring. He volunteered as a Director of Music for the Schenectady Light Opera Co. Ken loved trains. A member of the National Model Railroad Association, he was awarded Master Model Railroader #688, in 2021.


203 - Jeanne Marie Corrigan, 77, of Rexford, passed away June 8, 2022. Born in Amsterdam, Jeanne was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam and went on to receive her bachelor's and master's degree in Education from the College of St. Rose. Once her daughters were grown, she re-established her teaching career at the Milton Terrace Elementary School in Ballston Spa as a Special Education Teacher, retiring in 2002. She was a pioneer in nutrition and assisted programs for the hungry.

202 - Barbara J. MacDonald, 88, of Burnt Hills, passed away June 5, 2022. Barbara was born in Corinth, NY on October 21, 1933. Barbara was a magnificent homemaker. When the children were raised, she took on a job at Stevens Elementary School in the Burnt Hills-Ballston lake School District as the head cook and food coordinator. She captured the hearts (and stomachs) of many and was always remembered fondly throughout the years by her peers and students alike.

201 - Helen Stewart Pepper, 92, of Doylestown, PA and formerly of Scotia, NY died Thursday, May 26, 2022. Helen spoke fondly of the time she spent studying at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. She served as an active member of the alumni for decades and helped to raise funds so that other young women could have the opportunity of higher education. After graduation, Helen worked as a librarian for nearly thirty years, passing onto the children her love of reading and great books. She worked alongside raising her family. After retirement, she volunteered in the Schenectady Inner City Ministry food pantry for twenty-five years.

200 - Marjorie L. (Marafioti) DelVecchio, 93, of Albany, entered into eternal life on June 5, 2022. After high school Marjorie enrolled at Eastman Dental Associates associated with Rochester University to attain a degree towards dentistry. After two years of studying, she decided to become a dental health teacher continuing her education at Syracuse University and then onto Cortland State Teachers to obtain her permanent certification to teach. Her first teaching position began at Catskill High School. She also started the first dental health program in the Coxsackie schools. After a few years, Marjorie joined the Albany School District as a dental health teacher and worked in several Albany schools for over 30 years. Marjorie helped to present information resulting in a Legislative Bill to mandate Health instruction as part of the curriculum in all schools throughout New York State.

199 - Robert "Bob" Louis West, 85, of Long Island, died Thursday, June 2, 2022. Bob served as mate on fishing boats and while a senior in high school enlisted in the Naval Reserve. Serving for eight years, he attained the rank of second class communications technician. He began his teaching career at Harbor Fields High School as chorus director and general music teacher. Later, working in the Hicksville School System, he taught strings to all levels. His career culminated with his appointment as director of fine arts in the Hicksville School System.

198 -  LaDette R. Cross III (aka John, Jack or Butch), 79, of Queensbury and Bolton Landing, passed away May 31, 2022. John was born in Syracuse, NY on March 10, 1943. He joined the United States Army in August of 1962, where he was stationed in Fort Benning GA. John worked for General Electric in the Film Department of the Fort Edward plant until his retirement. He spent 10 years driving a school bus for Queensbury School.

197 - Robert "Bob" Potter of Brooksville, FL died May 8, 2022. He was born on May 8, 1928 in Glens Falls, NY. Bob attended South Glens Falls High School and then joined the United States Navy, returning to work with his father for 50 years at Potter's Fuel Oil Company. Prior to working in fuel oil, Bob and his father delivered coal and ice in the Glens Falls area. Bob was also employed as a school bus driver for the South Glens Falls School District for 30 years.

196 - Louise "Weezie" M. Mirra of Schaghticoke passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022. She was 73. Born on September 3, 1948, in Placentia, Newfoundland, Louise worked for the Stillwater School System as a school bus driver, retiring after a career of over 31 years. She worked in the Schaghticoke Fair information booth for approximately 25 years and was active with the American Legion Post 731 Ladies Auxiliary, Schaghticoke.

195 - Demitra Tulla Pangburn, 82, of Altamont, died on Friday, June 3, 2022. Tulla attended Douglass Residential College, and later obtained advanced degrees in education. In 1979, Tulla started the Sunshine Day Nursery School, a church-sponsored early childhood center in East Greenbush. Tulla spent another large part of her career as the director of the Albany Vo-Tec Daycare Center and Early Childhood Education teacher and finished her teaching career as an adjunct professor in the Early Childhood Education degree program at Hudson Valley Community College.

194 - Richard T. Zeller, 97, of Troy, passed away on Friday June 3, 2022. Upon graduating from Lansingburgh High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served 3 years with the 4051st Army Air Corp as an instrument technician. In his early teaching career, he returned to Lansingburgh High School where he taught mathematics for a 3-year period. His final assignment was as principal and assistant superintendent of the Shenendehowa School District, where he served 26 years. After leaving Shenendehowa he served for a period of time with the New York State Education Department as part of its school evaluation program.

193 - Caroline (Gade) Turner passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Sarasota, Florida. She was born on March 17, 1932 in Albany, graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 1953 and went on to complete her master’s in education. Caroline taught at Elmer Avenue Elementary School in Schenectady for 35 years. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling to Europe especially to Germany to visit her family. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, Florida for over 20 years.

192 - Elizabeth Mary (Gardinier) Friday, 93, passed away at her home in Houston, Texas on March 16, 2022. Elizabeth was born February 23, 1929 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady and spent the next 75 years within a few miles of where she grew up. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School. Elizabeth worked at Hillside Elementary School in Niskayuna for 25 years as a teacher's aide in the Physical Education Department. The family often-spent time at Lake George and other areas in the Adirondacks enjoying boating, swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking and snowmobiling.

191 - Katherine Elizabeth Bartley passed away in her home in Dickinson, Texas, on December 10, 2021. She was born in Cobleskill on July 5, 1950. She graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, and received her bachelor's degree in teacher education from Barrington College in Rhode Island, and a master's degree in reading from Rhode Island College. Kathy taught first grade for seven years in Warren, R.I. She taught first grade for Bethlehem Central at Clarksville Elementary before becoming a language arts coordinator for the district.

190 - Clement J. Giedroc, 92 of Rotterdam, passed away May 31, 2022. He was born on July 7, 1929, in Buttonwood, Pa. Clement graduated from Hanover Memorial High School and King's College in Wilkes Barre, Pa. He obtained his master's degree in education from the University at Albany and retired after teaching English and history for 30 years at Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake Middle School. An avid golfer, Clem enjoyed rounds of golf with his buddies at Stadium Golf Club in Schenectady.

189 - Robert J. Zaja, 74, of Slingerlands, passed away May 28, 2022. He grew up in Solvay, NY and graduated from Potsdam University and Russell Sage College. Bob worked as a Special Education Teacher at BOCES and Tryon School for Boys in Johnstown, NY. He became the first Executive Director for Liberty ARC in Amsterdam, NY. In 1973, Bob began his 22-year career with NYS Education Department as a Rehabilitation Facilities Specialist, reporting to work at One Commerce Plaza, Albany. He had a satellite office at Lexington ARC in Johnstown.

188 - Carl W. Nantista, 67, of Colonie, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022. As a graduate of Vincentian Institute in 1973 and Hudson Valley Community College in 1975, Carl spent years working for Jacoby/Marcone appliance parts; three years driving school bus for North Colonie Central School District, as well as 23 years with Albany Police Pipes & Drums (eight as a pipe major). 187 - Norman Bader, 79, of Albany, died on May 10, 2022. Norman was a longtime teacher in Troy, New York at Lansingburgh High School. He was an active member of Retiree Council 10 of the New York State United Teachers. He also volunteered as an usher at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady.

186 - Margaret (Peggy) Donohue of South Glens Falls passed away on May 26, 2022. Peggy was born in Schenectady, NY, and graduated from St. Columba's and then Purdue University, where she majored in Speech and Hearing Therapy. Upon graduation from Purdue, she returned to Schenectady and began teaching in the Schalmont School system. In 1961, Peggy started teaching for the South Glens Falls School District. After 20 years of teaching, Peggy changed careers. In 1976, she and her husband purchased the family business - The Hayes Tobacco Company, which later became Donohue & Higgins Candy & Tobacco Co, Inc. Peggy and her two sons stayed with the company until 2016, when at the age of 82 she sold the company and retired to start having fun with her family and friends.

185 - Thomas F. O'Brien Sr., 75 of Troy, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022. Tom was born on November 1, 1946, in Troy.. Tom was a 1968 graduate of Boston College and then completed his education with his master's degree from University at Albany. Upon graduation, Tom began his career as a teacher at The Wildwood School before moving to the N.Y.S. Office for People with Developmental Disabilities in Albany, where he retired after many years of service.

184 - Phillip "Phil" Roger, 83, of Halfmoon, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022. He was born on February 13, 1939, in New Berlin, N.Y. and graduated from Earlville High School, Cornell, Colgate, and the University of Rochester. Lt. Reynolds served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64 in the western Pacific at the beginning of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the Naval reserves until 1967. After leaving the Navy, he taught math for 32 years at Oxford High School, Webster High School, and Niskayuna High School. During this time, he was a basketball coach for five years and head of the math department for 12 years. After his retirement from Niskayuna, Dr. Reynolds taught 15 more years at Union College.

183 - Lois M. Barrie, 90, of Charlton, died May 25, 2022. Lois was born in New Haven, CT. After a very brief stint in the Navy, Lois attended New Haven Teachers College where she earned a degree in teaching. She later married and moved to NY where she resided in the Charlton area for 50 years. Lois was a teacher in the elementary school system, later helping to establish a new committee named the Committee of Special Education, where she was an active member. One of her greatest accomplishments was convincing the School Board to install radios on school buses. This endeavor began after a Special Ed bus was broken down far out in the country for hours in the winter, without having any way to communicate for help.

182 - Sharon (Barber) Fromma, 74, of Latham, passed away May 30, 2022. She was raised in Albany's South End and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in 1965. While schooling restricted students with health issues from becoming nurses or paramedics, she was able to become an E.M.T. and served her community for many years, eventually becoming captain of the Nassau Fire Department Ambulance. Sharon also worked for many years as a food service aide at Columbia High School. The position allowed her to always be home with her children after school, during the summer and on holidays. She was able to see her three children and two of her local grandchildren daily in the cafeteria and watched them go on to graduate from the school.

181 - Peter Ninos, 101, of Tonawanda Township, passed away May 16, 2022. Peter was a World War II Army veteran, retired school teacher and guidance counselor of 33 years for the KenTon (Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda) Union Free School District. He was also a customs inspector on the Rainbow, Lewiston/Queenston and Whirlpool Bridges in Niagara Falls, NY.

180 - Roger Wilcox Yeomans of Green Island died Thursday, May 26, 2022. Roger was born on January 20, 1931, in Utica. Roger graduated from Waterville High School in 1949 and made his way to Albany to attend the New York State College for Teachers, majoring in history and secondary education. Following his graduation in 1953, Roger was hired as a teacher by the Troy City School District and assigned to School 10 in South Troy. There he taught seventh and eighth grade social studies and science until 1965, when he assumed an administrative position supervising the district's libraries, technology, and audio-visual programs. Roger retired in 1993, after serving the Troy City School District for 40 years. Of all of his years working in education, Roger always remembered the years he spent in the classroom at School 10 as his most satisfying.

179 - Mary Ellen "Marion" Rogers, 90 of Clifton Park, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022. Marion was born in Brooklyn on December 29, 1931, and was a graduate of Resurrection R.C. Grammar School and St. Brendan's High School in Brooklyn. After retiring, Marion and her husband were the owners of Marion's Rings and Things in Clifton Park, which gave them the opportunity to travel the East Coast and enjoy Irish Fests from New York to Florida for well over a decade. At various times she volunteered for WMHT on their fundraising phone bank, cooked in the soup kitchen for St. Edward's, volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive, and worked as a school bus monitor for Shenendehowa Central Schools.

178 - Joan D. (Malone) Flynn, 72, of Wynantskill, entered into the loving arms of our Lord on May 27, 2022. Joan was born in Troy on June 10, 1949, and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1967. Joan cherished being a wife and mother, staying home to raise her five children. Later, she would go on to work as a teacher's aide for special needs children at BOCES and George Washington School.

177 - Robert F. Macey, Jr., 84, of South Glens Falls, died Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Born on March 27, 1938, in Fort Edward, he was a life-long area resident. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the 8th Infantry Division from 1960 to 1963. He served during the Vietnam era as a Private First Class and was stationed in Germany. While in Germany, Bob was a truck driver, transporting troops from the 504th and 505th Parachute Infantry. After returning home from Germany and being discharged from the Army, he soon began his long career at Hercules/Ciba-Geigy in Queensbury. Following his retirement, Bob found he liked to stay busy and could not sit still, so he began working at Queensbury Schools as a custodian. He had a great love for his community, and very near and dear to his heart was his time served as a lifelong volunteer for the Hudson Falls Fire Department and as a driver for the Fort Edward Rescue Squad.

174 - Margaret M. "Peg" Bausback, 78 of Slingerlands, passed away on May 20, 2022. She moved to the Capital District in 1967, where she happily raised her family, and earned her bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College. Peg lived a full life sparked by her passion for early childhood education. She was a teacher at Hamagrael Preschool in Delmar from the early 1980s until she retired in 2008. Nothing pleased her more than seeing the smiling faces of all those three and four year olds every day in the classroom. She was especially delighted when her past students have recognized her as a guiding influence in their lives.

173 - Ann Jandron Swicker, 94, of Slingerlands, formerly of West Townsend, Mass., Punta Gorda, Fla., and Acton, Maine, passed away on May 4, 2022. She attended and graduated from Wellesley College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She later attended Colby College and received a master's degree in education. Ann and her husband were teachers in Townsend, Mass. at Spaulding Memorial School, and then later North Middlesex Regional High School for more than 35 years. She taught high school biology, and became the science department head for the Regional School District. She believed that all children deserved a strong education in science. She was a pioneer in demonstrating that women had a role in science.

172 - Timothy R. Heilman, of Niskayuna, passed away May 22, 2022. With an art degree from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and a master's degree in education from SUNY Albany, Tim began a 33-year career teaching secondary art in the East Greenbush Central School District. Upon his retirement he accepted a position at Catholic Central High School, a position he enjoyed immensely for 11 years. Subjects that he taught included painting and drawing, studio in art, ceramics, photography, cartooning, and computer graphics. In addition to his love of art and teaching, Tim had a keen interest in history, especially the Civil War, World War II, and the Titanic.

171 - Janet I. Nadler, 84 of North Greenbush, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Born in Oneonta, she lived on Burden Lake from 1968-1998, in Malta from 1998-2016 and has resided in North Greenbush for the past five and a half years. Jan earned her bachelor's degree from SUNY Cortland and her health education certification from Russell Sage College. Jan was a physical education and health teacher for Troy Public Schools for 28 years retiring in 1992. Jan was an avid gardener and always had a large garden at her home on Burden Lake. During her retirement, she drove for CareLink and was a volunteer for the Captain's Treasures in Halfmoon.

170 - Robin Dean Rapaport, 81, of Sarasota, Fla., former longtime Loudonville resident, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He went from an immigrant kid who spoke only Yiddish, Polish and Hebrew to a young adult so fluent in English that he majored in this at the University of Rhode Island with a double major in biology. After getting his degrees, he headed to California for a teaching job at Santa Monica Community College. But Uncle Sam had other plans and shortly after he arrived, he was drafted. He served a long tour in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army as a forward artillery observer. Robin earned battlefield commissions, and was discharged from the army with the rank of captain. After the war, he settled into a decades long career in public education, first as a high school English teacher and then as a union activist. Robin was a passionate supporter of the teacher union movement throughout his career. When he finally did leave the classroom after his retirement from the Bethlehem Central School District in 1996, where he taught both the academically gifted and the educationally challenged high school students, it was to serve public schools and colleges in a different capacity. First as a vice president and then as president of the National Education Association, and later as a vice president of the New York State United Teachers, the largest statewide union of education workers in the nation, he advocated for the people and programs needed for students to succeed in public schools and colleges.

166 - Bonnie Gene Kroha, 74 of Valatie, passed away May 18, 2022. She received her B.S. and Master of Education from SUNY New Paltz. Bonnie was a dedicated and caring elementary school teacher who wholly embraced her career in the Ichabod Crane CSD until her retirement in 2004. She loved working with children and enriched her third graders by having them perform a play for the other classes and their families. She traditionally ended the school year by throwing a pool party at her home for all of her students.

165 - CaroleAnne Wheland of East Greenbush passed away May 17, 2022. The most important thing in her life was her family. She was always concerned about everyone else and put herself last. She was strong, independent, and funny, but most of all caring and compassionate. One of her favorite things to do was to watch her Buffalo Bills football. CaroleAnne worked at Columbia High School in the cafeteria from 1982-2020. She loved all the students. If you happened to attend during these years, chances are she may have made or bought your lunch for you.

164 - Libby L. Hayes (Sass) died Thursday, May 12, 2022. She was a loving mom and grandma and gentle friend to all that knew her. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Libby grew up in the New Paltz, NY area. She retired in 2000 after more than 40 years as a custodian for the Syracuse City School District. Libby loved animals especially her dog, Tina, who she loved dearly and enjoyed playing bingo and time spent with family at cookouts and parties.

163 - John Anthony Marozas, 74, passed away on December 21, 2021. At the time, he was in Atlantic City, NJ, a place he loved to visit. John grew up in Amsterdam, NY and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in English from St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT. Spending his adult life in Hoosick Falls, NY, John was an English Teacher at Hoosick Falls Central School. His greatest passion in life was being a teacher where he developed great friendships with both his colleagues and students that lasted for years beyond the classroom. Formerly an EMT with the Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad, John also loved the outdoors and cherished time spent fishing in Alaska and in the Adirondacks, particularly Moose Pond.

162 - Craig L. Barry of Glenville passed away Monday, May 16th, 2022. Craig was born in Seward, NY on August 5th, 1936. Craig grew up in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Nott Terrace High School and then furthered his studies at Siena College and SUNY Albany. Craig began his career as a teacher at Rhinebeck High School in Rhinebeck, NY, but moved away from that path and began a job as a grant writer at the NYS Research Foundation for several years. From there, he moved into residential real estate, commercial real estate, and finally was an inspector for Homestead Funding Corp until his retirement.

161 - Judith A. Wolf (Née: Califano), 75, Entered eternal life on January 19, 2022. Born in Schenectady on May 6, 1946, she grew up in Schenectady. After graduating from the State University of New York at Albany, she started a long career helping students in and out of the classroom as an English teacher at Gowana Middle School in the Shenendehowa School District. She always looked for humor in the day to day. Judy enjoyed keeping up with her friends and family. After she retired from teaching, she enjoyed visiting and playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her friends and family.

160 - Mary Vogel of Watervliet passed away on May 6, 2022. Mary was a graduate of St. Patrick's Elementary School and Catholic Central High School. She truly lived a full life. Mary was a devoted lifelong member of St. Patrick's Parish in Watervliet, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Craft Guild and volunteered at Mary's Kitchen. Despite failing health Mary continued to worship and actively serve at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Mary was a proud retiree from the Watervliet School District where she worked as a teacher's aide for several years. She loved her time in the classroom with children.

159 - Barbara Ann Mosher, 75 years of age, passed away in Ocala, Florida on April 19, 2022. Barb was born on December 3, 1946 in Amsterdam, New York. Barb married her husband on December 30, 1989 and lived in a log cabin they built together in Hagaman, New York. Barb was a teacher for 35 years in the Galway School District, retiring in 1999. Barb enjoyed bird-watching, gardening, cross-country skiing, touring Europe, vacationing in Maine, and wintering in Florida. Barb loved her pets like no other.

158 - Dennis Michael Coker of Queensbury entered into eternal life on April 30, 2022. Born on November 19, 1946 in New York City, Dennis was raised in Brooklyn until the family relocated to Loudonville when he was 12. He was a proud 1968 graduate of Siena College and went on to teach English at Colonie and Stillwater, NY High Schools. Later, he began his career with New York State, primarily in the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, retiring after 40 plus years of loyal service. While he left education behind, he remained a teacher in all aspects of his life, offering solid advice and guidance to his coworkers, family, and friends.

157 - Phyllis Ann (née Batten) Woodmansee died March 5, 2022 in Houston, TX. After earning degrees in English and American literature, Phyllis taught English at Niskayuna High School (NHS) until her two sons were born. Once her children reached adolescence, Phyllis returned to NHS as a substitute English teacher. Additionally, she dedicated herself to tutoring students after school in English. In 2001 Phyllis moved to Greenville, SC where she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults through the Greenville Literacy Association. Phyllis was proud to see her students become fluent enough to assimilate into the local community.

156 - Priscilla Lates, 96, died Friday, April 8, 2022, one month shy of her 97th birthday. Priscilla graduated from Brooklyn College, where she was a prized art student of the avant garde artist Ad Reinhardt, but she got a more practical degree in education. Priscilla taught fourth grade at Columbus School in New Rochelle for thirty years and obtained a master's degree along the way. She introduced her students, many of whom were from immigrant families, to experiences way beyond the prescribed school curriculum. She had them write messages and send them out to sea in bottles. Much to their delight, some of the bottles made it across the sea and were answered. Priscilla was a force of nature who embraced life with gusto. Her indomitable spirit lives on.

155 - Judith Greenwood, 80, of Albany entered into Heaven and eternal life on March 31, 2022. She went through school in Albany and found employment there. Judith served as a Latin teacher at Albany High School, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Throughout her life, she enjoyed her worship at First Lutheran Church in Albany, vacationing in Cape Cod, and above all, her family.

154 - Betty Allen Spadaro — a friendly and no-nonsense realist — never stopped caring about Altamont. She started her teaching career at the one-room schoolhouse on the Bozenkill, continued it, teaching at the Altamont High School, and finally, after that school was demolished, taught in the then-new Altamont Elementary School. By her own description, she “stressed the basics along with emphasizing promptness, honesty, ambition, faithfulness, and organization.” Mrs. Spadaro was a fixture at the Altamont Fair; a long-time member of Altamont’s Order of the Eastern Star; an active member of the auxiliaries of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Altamont Fire Department; and she cared deeply about the village’s library and its newspaper. She died on Monday, May 2, 2022. She was 103.

153 - Joan Elizabeth Miller (nee Farrell) was born in Indian Lake, N.Y. and died in Wilton, Conn. on April 7, 2022. She was 92 years old. She was proud of her Irish heritage and her careers as a registered nurse and an elementary school teacher. She graduated from Indian Lake Central School in 1947 and from The College of Saint Rose in Albany with a B.S. in nursing in 1951. When her youngest child reached school age, Joan returned to work as a school nurse. She received a master's degree in education from Manhattanville College, and became an elementary school teacher in the Byram Hills school district. Following retirement in 1989, Joan moved to Norwalk, Conn.

152 - Margarethe "Maggie" McCurry of Queensbury, NY passed away on April 24, 2022 at the age of 90. She received her BS from SUNY at Oneonta in 1953 and MS in Dramatic Arts from New York University in 1970. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy, July 20, 1984 from Walden University. Maggie was a career teacher at the Queensbury School District for 41 years beginning September 1953 before retiring as a Teacher/Facilitator for the Middle School Enrichment Program in February 1994. She served on Queensbury Faculty Association, NYSTA, NYSUT, and Tri County Teacher's Association in professional leadership roles. She was proud to be the NEA Delegate for NYS. She finally retired in 2014 from the College of St. Rose, where she was an Adjunct Professor supervising teachers for 15 years.

151 - Linda H. Cherry, 80, of Rexford, passed away May 1, 2022. Born to teach, after graduating from Pine Hill High School in Cheektowaga, N.Y., Linda graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in Buffalo. Immediately after graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Spenard, Alaska. Her teaching experience there was punctuated by the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964, the second most powerful earthquake recorded in world history. While she and her colleagues were not injured, their community, apartment and school were heavily damaged. Linda returned to Western New York and continued her teaching career at Saints Peter and Paul School in Williamsville. After moving to the Capital District in 1982, Linda taught at the elementary level and at pre- school programs in Clifton Park and Scotia.

150 - Patricia A. (Immucci) Mitchell, 81, left this life and returned to her Heavenly Father on May 5, 2022. A long-time resident of Schenectady, NY, she passed away peacefully near her family in Phillipsburg, NJ. Pat graduated from New Rochelle High School and SUNY Oneonta and started her 33-year career as an elementary education teacher at South Colonie School District in 1962. She was a very active member of the South Colonie Teachers Association and NYSUT. Pat was a devoted member of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Schenectady, NY, where she served for many years as a religious education teacher, participated in the shawl ministry and volunteered countless hours of her time. Pat will be remembered for her love of hosting large family gatherings, spending time in Cape Cod, her generosity to countless causes and her devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren.

149 - Virginia "Ginny" May Kaufmann, 100, of Rotterdam, NY died Monday, April 25, 2022. She graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, NY in 1939. Her love of reading led her to attend classes at Union College and Schenectady County Community College. During World War II she worked at General Electric assembling components. Virginia volunteered as a library assistant at Grout Park School in Schenectady for many years before being hired as a para professional library assistant. She was loved and respected by her coworkers and the children. She worked for over 40 years until she was 85. When she was 65 she decided to become a belly dancer, made some wonderful costumes and participated in volunteer performances in the area.

148 - William ""Bill"" J. Boudreau, 89, of Troy, died Saturday, April 30, 2022. He was born on November 24, 1932, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Bill graduated from State University College for Teachers at Buffalo with his BS in Science (Industrial Arts Education) and eventually his MS in Science. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and received the Lieutenant Commission and Wings in 1956, while serving in the Air Defense Command, 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Otis Air Force Base, Falmouth, Mass. After his honorable discharge from the USAF, Bill had a long career as an educator, which ultimately led him to his role as New York State supervisor of Occupational Education. There, he proudly shaped and updated the entire state-wide curriculum.

147 - Eugene G. Borden, 75, of Latham, died early Friday morning, April 29, 2022. A 1968 graduate of Plattsburgh State Teachers College, Gene began a short-lived teaching career as a math and social studies teacher for the Shenendehowa School District. Gene realized that teaching didn't answer his life's call, and then began a long-time career as a foreman of the track gang for the Delaware and Hudson and later Canadian Pacific Railroads in Colonie. A former union leader of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way, Gene found his niche working on the railroad, and was considered to be a great guy to work with and for.

146 - Joseph F. Buff, 88, of Latham, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Born in Winona, Minn. on June 7, 1933, he earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Siena College in Loudonville. Joseph was a science teacher at East Nassau Central School, Watervliet High School, and Shaker Junior High School, teaching for a total of 33 years before retiring in 1988. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

145 - Robert T. Brennan, 83, of Argyle, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022. Born September 22, 1938 in Glens Falls, NY, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1963. Upon his return home, Bob and his wife ran the family farm together. Bob also worked at Argyle Central School as a custodian for many years. Bob loved hobby farming and could always be found woodworking or building things such as hay racks and wagons in his barn. He loved riding his tractor and supporting the Argyle 4H students at the Washington County Fair.

144 - Shirley Wiltse Dunn, 93, of East Greenbush, died Monday, April 25, 2022. The holder of master's degrees in English and history from the College for Teachers (now SUNYA), Shirley worked as a teacher, museum interpreter, editor, and historic preservationist. She spoke frequently to historical groups and was recognized by the New Netherland Project for her contributions to Dutch studies. After graduation from the College for Teachers, Shirley taught four years in Delmar, and Baltimore, Md. After her children entered college, she returned to the labor market, teaching briefly in BOCES, and later working for the State office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, until her retirement in 1992.

143 - Robert M. Iagrossi of Clifton Park died on April 23, 2022. Bob was born on April 12, 1935 in Schenectady, N.Y. Bobby, as we all knew him, was a special education teacher at BOCES stationed in Guilderland for over 30 years. He was known for his ability to deal with problem students. Bobby graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y. He received additional degrees at both Siena and St. Rose. Bobby was a religious man, who never preached to anyone about their beliefs. He showed his faith through his works and in his actions. For years, he volunteered to work in soup kitchens in Albany and Troy.

142 - Barbara M. Dubb, 94, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022. Born in Oneonta, Barbara was a graduate of South Kortright High School. Barbara was involved in many local businesses through the years. She was co-owner of Dubb Transportation, Rustic Loft and Harvey's off the Boulevard. Later in life she was the cafeteria night supervisor at Schenectady County Community College, retiring at the age of 86. She was a beloved fixture at Manhattan Exchange, making all of their soups weekly and then when the work was done holding court at her corner seat at the bar. Soups and baking were a few of Barbara's specialties. She was the winner of the first annual Schenectady Fire Department Chowder Fest, a title which she was very proud of.

141 - Carolyn A. White, 90, of Colonie, died Friday, April 22, 2022. Carolyn was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, class of 1949. She received her nursing degree from Union University School of Nursing in 1952. Carolyn graduated in 1974, from Oneonta College, which she attended in summers, with a Bachelor of Science in Education and took evening courses at Russell Sage to obtain her School Nurse Teacher certification. Carolyn worked at Albany Medical Center Hospital after graduating from nursing school. When her youngest child started school she began her career with the City of Albany School District as a school nurse teacher at Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady of Angels and St. Casimir's for 20 years until 1992, when the district did away with school nurse teachers.

140 - Robert L. Traver, 88, of Ravena, passed away April 19, 2022. Bob was born in Albany on May 30, 1933. He was a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, SUNY Brockport, and University at Albany. Bob was a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach at RCS for 34 years. He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. As an active member of his community, Bob was a Little League and Babe Ruth coach, Lions Club member, and very active in the Congregational Christian Church of Ravena.

139 - Arthur H. Berg, Jr., 92, long time resident of Tully, NY passed away April 19, 2022. Arthur was born in Rochester, NY in 1930 and served in the US Navy as an electrician on the battleship USS Mississippi. Early in his career he worked for IBM in Endicott, NY and later was instrumental in bringing the then-new Community General Hospital into the computer age with the cutting-edge technology, a key-punch system. Later in life, he drove a school bus for the Lafayette School system, followed by ten years as a Centro Bus driver, a job he loved. He retired from Centro in 1997.

138 - Arlene D. Kehoe, 86, of Rotterdam, NY, passed away on April 13, 2022. Arlene graduated from Draper High School in Rotterdam, received her B.A. in Physical Education from Russell Sage College and later earned her Master degree in that field at Ithaca College. She was the high school girl's Physical education instructor at Draper High School, where she was a long-time track and field coach for the girl's team. Arlene finished her teaching career at Mohonasen Central School District after Draper and Mohonasen combined. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and a 25-year usher captain at Proctors Theatre.

137 - Joyce G. Ball, 73 of Clifton Park, passed away April 3, 2022. Born in Flushing, N.Y. on October 8, 1948, Joyce graduated in 1971 from Mansfield University with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and received her master's degree from Elmira College in 1973. She taught for the Elmira School District for over 10 years, teaching at the Riverside Elementary School and as a substitute teacher in many of the local school districts for grades K-12. In her later years, she worked as a mortgage processor for multiple loan servicing companies.

136 - Barbara Ann (Rekemeyer) Greene, 71, of Cohoes, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Barbara grew up in Waterford and graduated in 1968 from Waterford-Halfmoon High School. Barbara worked for both the Boght Hill School in the North Colonie School District and Cohoes Schools as a teacher's aide. Barbara's true love was working as a teller for several banks and credit unions in the area, which she did for 35 years. She retired from Community Resource FCU in Latham.

135 - Anne Elizabeth Vines, 75, of Glenville, NY passed away on April 7, 2022. She graduated in 1968 from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She earned her MLS degree from SUNY Albany in 1971. Her long career included elementary school teaching in Saugerties, NY, serving as fine arts librarian and children's librarian at the Troy Public Library, and Library Director of the Gloversville Free Public Library. Anne also worked as Children's Services Consultant at the Ramapo Catskill Library System and at the New York State Library in Library Services, Youth Services, and the NY State Division of Library Development. She oversaw the design of a library-themed NY State license plate for for the NYSDMV. She also coordinated the New York State Library State Wide Reading Program for many years.

134 - Mary J. Farinelli, 89, of Ravena, died April 12, 2022. Mary graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1949. She attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, then transferred to the State University of New York College at Oneonta, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1954. Mary spent the majority of her teaching career in the Ravena-Coeysmans-Selkirk School District (1969-1992). She taught grade two at Ravena Elementary and later at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary. After she retired, she enrolled in The College of Saint Rose, earning a master's degree in English and graduating with honors in 2001.

133 - Ben Castle, 86, of Delmar, passed away on April 7, 2022. He was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, SUNY Oneonta with a B.S. and M.S. in science education and a science supervisor certificate from SUNY Albany. He also proudly served with the Merchant Marines before entering college. He taught high school science in Islip, N.Y. and in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school districts before spending his final years of teaching and science supervision in the South Colonie school district, where he also coached their varsity soccer team. In addition to coaching at South Colonie, he coached the Varsity Girls team at Bethlehem Central when his daughter's team was without a coach.

132 - Robert J. Lewis, 53, of Burnt Hills, passed away April 11, 2022. Born in Weymouth, MA, he attended University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Russell Sage College and SUNY Albany. Bob was a dedicated special education teacher and administrator. He worked for several local school districts - Shenendehowa Central School District, Catskill Central School District, Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District and Scotia-Glenville School District as well as the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES in Watertown, NY.

131 - Frank L. Jones, 87, of Gansevoort, passed away December 4, 2021. He graduated from Hudson Falls High School Class of 1951. Frank worked for Sandy Hill Iron & Brass of Hudson Falls from 1951 until he retired. When his sons were of age to play little league he supported them by being a little league coach. Frank was also active with Boy Scout Troop 9 of Glens Falls for several years. After retirement he drove a school bus for the South Glens Falls Schools.

130 - Cynthia M. Reineke, 69, of East Greenbush, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022. Cynthia was born in Albany, graduated from Columbia High School in 1970 and from Ithaca College with a bachelor's degree in music education in 1974. She was a teacher's assistant for East Greenbush Central Schools in East Greenbush. She was also the Children's Music and Bell Choir director at the First United Methodist Church in East Greenbush for many years.

129 - Tammy Fish, 59, of Argyle, passed away April 11, 2022. She was born on April 18, 1962, in Cambridge, NY. Tammy was a substitute teacher at many schools, but she especially loved the Ft. Edward School District. Tammy loved and was loved by every student she came in contact with. Tammy enjoyed her family and friends, camping and riding motorcycles, but she had a special joy for riding horses. Tammy had the biggest heart; she was always the first to offer a helping hand or just be there when someone needed a friend.

128 - Paul Tomchik, 88, of East Nassau, passed away Saturday morning, April 9, 2022. Paul worked on the family dairy farm from a young age until the mid-1950s. He graduated from New Lebanon High School in 1951. He was a school bus driver for the East Greenbush Central School District before becoming a truck driver for over 30 years. As a member of the Teamsters Local 294, he drove for Dorn's Transportation, Oneida Motor Freight, and Carolina Freight. For most of that time his route took him through the Green Mountains of Vermont where he loved the scenic views and trading stories in the diners along the way.

127 - Daniel Francis Cafarelli Sr., 92, also forever remembered as "Coach Caf," passed on April 7, 2022. He grew up and built his sports career in Schenectady, NY, where he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. After college, he honorably served in the United States Army from 1954-56. He continued his education to receive a Bachelor's (1953) and Master's (1954) in Physical Education from the University of Notre Dame. Dan had a remarkable career as a physical education teacher at Schenectady CSD for more than 40 years. He was employed for many years at the Mohawk Golf Club as its pool director. Dan worked until the age of 70 as a high school and college referee, developing what would become lifelong friendships with his officiating peers.

126 - Helen Jane (Snell) Strich, 86, passed away March 25, 2022. She was born on February 22, 1936 in Syracuse, NY. and graduated from Marcellus High School in 1954. She graduated from Potsdam College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. Helen was a second-grade teacher in Syracuse. After her children were born, she became a substitute teacher at Tanglewood Elementary in South Glens Falls where she enjoyed creating friendships with the families and teachers. Later, she became a real estate agent with RealtyUSA, which she enjoyed for many years.

125 - Joan Youngerman Stern, 76, passed away April 1, 2022. Joan was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Flushing, NY. She graduated from Hunter College with a BA in Education. She worked as a Physical Education Teacher in the NYC public schools until her daughters were born. In later years she owned and operated a successful flooring business, Star Floor Systems. She enjoyed playing mahjong and painting with her friends at the Queensbury Senior Center.

124 - Janet W. (Easton) Eberhardt, 85, of Esperance, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022. She was born on November 3, 1936 in Esperance, NY. She was a graduate of Schoharie Central School, Class of 1954. As a single Mother, she took on house cleaning jobs, did interior painting, and waited tables at local establishments to provide for her 3 kids. For many years, she was a waitress/manager at the Howe Caverns Restaurant in Howes Cave, NY. In 1996, Jan retired from Schoharie Central School as a cafeteria worker. In her spare time Jan enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening, and baking.

123 - Gary William "Rock" Hall, 77, of Argyle, passed away April 1, 2022. Rock served in the US Air Force from 1964-1968. He worked at Ciba-Gigy and for DHI, as a milk tester. He also was a beloved custodian at Argyle Central School. He loved the kids and the staff at Argyle. Later in life, while spending the summers up north, he worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). One of his favorite things to do was spending time at his camp on Mud Pond near Blue Mountain Lake.

122 - Martin R. Clark, 75, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on April 9, 2022. He was born on November 8, 1946, in Saratoga Springs, NY and remained a life-long resident of that city. graduating from Saratoga Springs High School. Throughout his early years, he gained a reputation as a diligent employee with an exemplary work ethic, maintaining multiple jobs which culminated in 40+ years as a seasonal peace officer at Saratoga Race Course, and for the Saratoga Springs City School District from 1980 until his retirement as Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations in 2011.

121 - Timothy W. Primeau, 68, of Waterford, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born in Troy he was a graduate of Cohoes High School. Tim was a retired truck driver having worked for C&S Building Material and RIST Transport Ltd. In his retirement he drove school bus for Shenendehowa School District. He was a member of the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department since February of 1996 and was a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon.

120 - James C. "JC" Simpson, 80, of Troy, passed away April 3, 2022. Jim attended St. Joseph's school and Troy High School before entering the Marine Corps and serving in various U.S. locations, as well as Okinawa and Iwakuni, Japan. Over time Jim was a coach to his girls in Lansingburgh Miss Softball League, an unofficial foster of six children, and a 37 year school bus driver at Golden Arrow, National School Bus and finally Star & Strand where he enjoyed transporting his many kids. Jim traveled extensively covering 47 of 50 states and enjoyed cruises to Hawaii, Alaska and the Bahamas.

119 - Kathleen Erin "Erin" McAlonie of Chelmsford, MA, passed into eternal life on Friday, April 1, 2022. Erin was born August 12, 1968 in Troy, N.Y. She was a 1986 graduate of Shaker H.S. in Latham, and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Industrial Relations from LeMoyne College in Syracuse in 1990. Erin worked as an Aquatics Director for YMCAs in Albany, and in Framingham, MA for five years. She then worked at Harvard University in Human Resources for ten years. Erin left Harvard to raise her children and later worked as a teacher's aide in several local schools.

118 - Edward M. Harrold died March 28, 2022. Ed grew up in Syracuse, New York and attended Central Technical High School. He graduated from SUNY Oswego and received his Masters Degree from C.W. Post. In his early career Ed was at IBM working on chips used for the lunar mission. As much as Ed loved the challenge of creating for the space program, he left that work to follow in his mother's footsteps as a teacher. He retired from teaching printing at Eastern Suffolk BOCES on Long Island.

117 - Civita M. Robinson, 78, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. Civita was born in Utica, NY on August 12, 1943. She attended Mildred Elley Business College in Albany and graduated in 1962. Civita was employed as an executive Secretary in the admissions Department at SUNY Albany. She later worked as a receptionist at SUNY Brockport in the main office. Civita enjoyed the outdoors, children, playing tennis, and was a member of the Schenectady County Women's Tennis League.

116 - Joan A. Valoze, 79 of Savannah, Ga., passed away on April 6, 2022. Born in Canastota, N.Y. on May 31, 1942, Joan was a teacher with the Maplewood School District for over 24 years, retiring in 2006. She was a resident of Latham for 25 years and had lived in The Villages, Fla. since 2007. Joan was also a member of the New Horizons Band where she played the oboe and a clarinet player for the Strollers Band, both in Florida. She was a member of the Shen Senior Orchestra when she lived in the Capital District.

DiCerbo, Sr., 87, passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2022.Born in Schenectady, Michael was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and worked for many years as a custodian at Schalmont Central School District. After his retirement, Mike went on to work for the TSA at Albany International Airport.

114 - Donald "Don" Carl Burrow, 89 of Schodack, passed away on March 27, 2022. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force Air Sea Rescue, serving for over six and a half years while stationed in Illinois, Alaska, and Florida. After his military service he traveled the country working and drifting on the Sea of Life. He retired as a self-employed home contractor in 1990, and then became a school bus driver for the East Greenbush Central School District. He rose early each morning to see his kids (as they were like his grandchildren), safely from home to school and back again for close to 30 years until he retired in 2019.

113 - Walter "Wally" Habel, 90, died Saturday March 26, 2022. Wally was a graduate of Geneva (NY) High School Class of 1949 where he was an outstanding multi sport athlete, and Syracuse University with a Bachelor's degree in 1955 and a Master's degree in 1959. Signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1949, Wally played five minor league baseball seasons culminating with the Schenectady Blue Jays of the Eastern League in 1953 and 1954. In the field of education Wally was a teacher and coach at Pebble Hill School 1955-1960; teacher, coach, assistant principal and athletic director at Onondaga Central 1960-1970; principal at Schoharie Central 1970-1979; and the Superintendent of Gilbertsville Central 1979-1986.

112 - Joseph J. Jorlett of Venice, Fla. passed on March 22, 2022. He was born on October 12, 1944, and was raised in Elmwood Park, N.J., graduating from that school district in 1962. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Siena College in Loudonville in 1966, followed by a Master of Science degree in education from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1967. He became a resident of the Albany area, residing most of those years in Guilderland. He became a teacher in the East Greenbush Central School District for 29 years, retiring in 1996.

111 - Alice Reed, 98, passed away in Schenectady on Saturday March 26, 2022. Born and educated in Schenectady, Alice was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Albany Teachers College. A lifelong resident of the Bellevue area in Schenectady, she loved gardening and traveling all over the world with her library girlfriends. Alice retired from the Schenectady County Public Library in 1984 after 35 years of service. Back in the day, Alice was a teacher in Oneonta and loved listening to classical music.

110 - Elaine "Lainie" Beverly Kramer, 77, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away on March 10, 2022. Lainie attended Linton High School and graduated in 1963. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree from NYU and two master's degrees. Lainie worked as a dedicated teacher for many years as well as a school administrator. Lainie is remembered for her vivacious spirit and her captivating smile.

109 - MaryGrace (Crispo) Warren of Latham entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the age of 91. MaryGrace was a 1952 graduate of The College of Saint Rose and later furthered her education at both Oneonta and Plattsburgh State Colleges. MaryGrace dedicated much of her life to a career in teaching and taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Her career began at School 12 in Troy and the Powers Elementary School in Lansingburgh. She later taught at various schools in New York City and Westchester County and lastly at the former St. Marie's School in Cohoes, from where she retired following 40 years of educating students. MaryGrace was named four times to Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

108 - Bertha Larson Kauffman, 80, of Hagaman, NY, died Saturday March 19, 2022. Born in Amsterdam on Sept. 27, 1941, she went on to receive her degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta State in 1963 and then her Master's Degree in Education in 1968 from the University at Albany. Bertha was employed as a Teacher for most of her career at the Ichabod Crane School for over 35 years. Her passion was the New York State literacy project. She was on the Board of Directors of the Greenhill Cemetery Association in Amsterdam where she served for a time as Vice Chairman.

107 - Robert H. Riordon, 83, of Athens, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Bob began his teaching career at Mission High School, Boston, MA. In 1966, he began teaching junior high school social studies at the Catskill Central School District in Catskill, NY, until his retirement in 1998. During his many years at Catskill Jr. High, he was the boys and girls varsity tennis coach, director and chaperone of the high school and town ski program, and was a teacher in the Jr. High special program REACH. Bob received a Lifetime Achievement Award for the program, Greater Sense of Place.

106 - Sibyl S. Ketcham, 94, of Argyle, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022. Born December 30, 1927 in Argyle, NY, she graduated from Argyle High School, and was employed as an operator for Bell Telephone, a cafeteria worker at Argyle School District, and later by Sheridan Medical. Sibyl was independent and outgoing. She always had a kind word for everyone and genuinely liked everyone she met. She was a great cook, and always hosted family holidays at her home where she made sure there was always enough for everyone. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

105 - On March 26, 2022, Helen M. Lettko (O'Connell), 98, of Watervliet, entered into eternal rest. She graduated from The College of Saint Rose, class of 1945, and received her master's degree from what is now SUNY at Albany. Helen loved teaching junior high students English and social studies, including the history of Watervliet. When she married, Helen crossed the river and spent the next 50 years in Troy. After her husband died, Helen returned to her beloved Watervliet, living in the same flat she was brought up in.

104 - Ginger (Virginia) Boatman passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at the age of 62. Originally from Irondequoit, NY, she was a lifelong educator, teacher and mentor to so many. She will be greatly missed by her closest colleagues from Phoenix High School as well as many neighbors and friends, especially her Rochester "Princesses." Ginger and her husband spent summers at their camp on Oneida Lake, enjoying family, peaceful moments and gorgeous sunsets.

103 - James H. Meaney, 85, of Gansevoort, NY, formerly of Schenectady, NY, and Saratoga Springs, NY, died Thursday, March 17, 2022. Jim enjoyed three careers: First, as a history teacher with the Queensbury School District; next, as everyone's favorite bartender from friendly locals to famous stars; and finally, as a rural mail carrier for the Gansevoort Post Office. Jim was known for his love of baseball and trivia, which he shared with people on his long walks, with an aerobie around his neck and trekking poles in his hands.

102 - Richard V. "Dick" Hoult, 84 of North Greenbush, died on March 23, 2022 Growing up in Delmar, he was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, where he played on the basketball and tennis teams. He went on to SUNY Albany, where he earned his master's degree in education. He was a teacher, with the bulk of his career as a math teacher at Columbia High School in East Greenbush. His greatest passion was coaching and playing tennis, having played in, and winning numerous local tennis tournaments.

101 - Ronald "Ron" J. Porter, 77, passed away March 22, 2022. Born in Albany, Ron was a 1963 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School and went on to continue his education at SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Albany. Ron was a dedicated Earth Science and Physics Teacher. He taught at Shaker High School from 1967-1968, Scotia-Glenville High School from 1968-1988 and Ballston Spa High School as the Science Department Chair from 1988 until his retirement in 2000. Ron also was an Adjunct Professor at Union College, SUNY Albany, RPI and HVCC.

100 - Sharon Ann Miller Hall, of Burlington, Vermont, passed away on March 18, 2022. She was born on February 28, 1937, in Maumee, Ohio and was a graduate of Ohio State University and Denison University. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years, a ski instructor at Willard Mountain, where she ran the children's ski program, a teacher of cooking in after-school programs throughout the Capital District, and a patron of the Albany Symphony Orchestra.

099 - Carol McNeilly Donovan, 73 of Brunswick, died March 15, 2022. Carol was born July 11, 1948, in Cambridge, N.Y., was a graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS) class of '65, Suny Brockport and SUNY Albany. She taught at HFCS and her beloved George Washington School as a kindergarten teacher. Carol was a dedicated educator whose compassion for and impact on her students transcended the classroom. Carol enjoyed traveling and making photo albums that documented her adventures abroad.

098 - Melinda L. Waddell, 63, of Lowville/ Northcreek, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022. She graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1987, she became an educator at Lowville Academy where she worked for 30 years as an Elementary School Teacher, teaching primarily second grade. Melinda's skill combined with her patience, creativity, humor, and practical sense about children made her a much-loved teacher and highly valued staff member.

097 - Thomas Joseph Reardon "Tom", 70, of East Greenbush, was called home to God on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Tom proudly served in the United States Army Reserves Corp. until his discharge in 1975. Upon graduation from Aviation High School in 1969, he went to work for New York Telephone Company, NYTEL, as a cable splicer, retiring from Verizon in 2002, after 32 years. He enjoyed a second career as a school bus driver for East Greenbush Central Schools and a courier for Hudson Valley Community College retiring in 2012. 096 - Walter Suprunowicz, 90, of Bluffton, SC, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022. Born on February 1, 1932, in Schenectady, N.Y., he is remembered as a talented athlete. Throughout college, Walter was a member of the ROTC program and, following graduation, served in the United States Air Force as a first lieutenant from 1956-1958. After his service, Walter began his career in education, first working for the Scotia School District. He then accepted a position at his alma mater, Mont Pleasant, in the Schenectady City School District, teaching social studies and coaching varsity basketball, golf, and tennis. His career in education spanned over 29 years, and Walter was a beloved teacher and coach.

095 - June Close, 95, of Oneonta, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. June was born on February 6, 1927, in the Bronx. Early on, she lived in Sharon Springs, then Stamford, and finally settled in Oneonta in 1959 where she has since resided. From 1971 to 1989 she worked as a teacher's aide for special classes with B.O.C.E.S. in the Oneonta and Laurens Schools. June was an early advocate for autism, when recognition and resources for treating autism disorders was scant to non-existent, the impetus being her son. With the help of Dr. Campbell Goodwin and Dr. Mary S. Goodwin of Cooperstown, she and a handful of other parents chartered the founding of the National Society for Autistic Children.

094 - Helen Marie Farrell, 93, of Herkimer, born in Ticonderoga, NY, known to family as "Aunt Rea", went to be with her Lord on February 21, 2022. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1946 from Indian Lake Central School, before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle in 1950. She earned a Master's degree in Education through the ITT program at Albany State, and began her career teaching in Binghamton, NY. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Reading Instruction from Syracuse University and continued her graduate studies in Oneonta as a pioneer in Special Education while embarking on a distinguished teaching career beginning in the Poland and West Canada, NY, public school systems. Rea retired after 32 plus years from Herkimer County BOCES in 1986. Rea treasured her years of residency in Herkimer, NY, while also spending many winters in Venice, FL.

093 - Stella Wallaitis, of Stillwater, passed away March 12, 2022. Stella was born and raised in Mechanicville. Stella was a jack of all trades and entrepreneur, working for an Insurance Co., paper mill and later running her own limousine service. Truth be told though, she enjoyed her time as a crossing guard and school bus driver most of all; she loved the children and they loved her right back. They all held a special place in her heart. Stella's love of family was always first and foremost. There was always room for one more at Stella's table.

092 - AnnaMaria Miranda Abrams, of Cumberland Rhode Island, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Born in Schenectady, New York, AnnaMaria graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, Rhode Island College and received a Master's degree from Brown University in Bilingual Education. For the past 13 years, AnnaMaria was employed by the Woonsocket School District as a teacher at the Hamlet Middle School. She truly loved the team she taught with and the students. She loved being a teacher. AnnaMaria was a member of the American Federation of Teachers and Woonsocket Teachers Guild.

091 - Peter R. Bennett, 73, of Queensbury, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022. Peter earned his high school diploma from Queensbury High School in 1968. He entered the United States Army in 1969, fought in Vietnam and served until 1975 when he was honorable discharged. During his service, Peter earned the Bronze Star. Peter retired from Queensbury School after 32 years as a cafeteria steward. His enjoyments included walking with his dog Rosie, music, and helping others. Peter was also known as "The Mayor of the Neighborhood."

090 - Frederick G. Mausert, 72, of Clifton Park, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022. Frederick was a 20-year veteran of the Albany Police Department. In retirement, Frederick drove a school bus, worked in his daughter's and son-in-law's candy store and babysat his granddaughter. Frederick enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending local car racing venues.

089 - Kenneth E. Kirik of Troy passed away March 18, 2022. Ken was born in Jamaica Queens, N.Y.and graduated from the University of Albany with a B.S. in Education and a Masters in Counseling. He taught for 32 years as a social studies teacher at Voorheesville Central School District. He was also a track coach at Voorheesville and coached students in track and field. Ken himself was an avid runner participating in many marathons.

088 - Arleen H. Corino, 82, passed away March 13, 2022. Born in Albany, raised in Scotia, Arleen was a 1958 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School. Arleen worked many years at Schenectady County Community College as an Admissions Counselor, where she received several awards. Together, Arleen and her husband ran Corino's Market on Vley Road in Scotia. Arleen deeply cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

087 - Robert E. Fairlee of Glenville passed away March 9, 2022. Robert, "Bob", was born on February 29, 1933. He was an Army Veteran and fought in the Korean War. Bob worked primarily as a security guard at Albany Medical Center, then at Veeder School in Colonie, NY. He loved hunting and fishing in Hague NY, Lake George region. He enjoyed sports especially the Boston Red Sox.

086 - Doris (Borisenok) Steminsky, 92, passed from this life Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in Southington, Conn. Born in Cohoes, Doris was raised and educated in Maplewood. She was a graduate of Watervliet High School, Russell Sage College and SUNY-Albany. Doris was a math department chairman and math teacher for fifty years at Burnt Hills Junior High School. She was a passionate and dedicated teacher, inspiring thousands of students, and fostering a life-long love of mathematics in many of them.

084 - Joan VanDerwerken of Central Bridge was born in Danbury CT on February 23, 1925, and died March 7, 2022. She earned a B.S. in education from the New York State Teachers college in Albany, and her M.S. from Columbia University. She taught math at Valley Stream High School in Long Island for 15 years, and at Shaker High in Albany for 20 years. Joan's family had ties to American history such as her original ancestor immigrating on the Mayflower in 1620 and having another ancestor Mary Easty, hung as a witch, during the Salem witch trials in 1692. Joan enjoyed traveling, teaching, reading, and dining out.

083 - Arthur "Arty" Waugh, 79, of Guilderland, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022. He graduated from South Colonie High School and continued on to Syracuse University and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Arty was a six-year member of the New York National Guard, 210th Armored, fulfilling his service commitment. Arty's teaching and coaching career began in 1967 and he retired in 2000. He taught art and coached both football and lacrosse, coaching 45 teams at Guilderland, between the two sports. Arty is credited with introducing lacrosse to Section 2 in 1976 and there are now more than 30 programs in the area. Arty was a 2021 inductee into the Capital Region Football Hall of Fame for his coaching at Guilderland.

082 - Mary "Cathy" Catherine Stich, 59, entered into eternal life on March 11, 2022. Mary was born in Oneida, NY on January 2, 1963. A 1981 graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, Cathy was a talented runner; she still holds track and cross country records. She was an early riser, who would run every day, even in the middle of winter. For years she coached cross country running and track at VVS HS. In 1998, Cathy and her husband moved their family to Glenville where they planted roots within the community. For over 20 years, Cathy worked as a Program Supervisor for the Center for Disability Services in both Glenville and Schenectady.

081 - Janet (Snyder) Dick, 84, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022. Janet was born April 17, 1937 and had fond memories of growing up in Cranesville. Janet valued education and made the decision to pursue a career in teaching at the age of 35. She graduated from FMCC and St. Rose and went on to teach 3rd Grade at Marie Curie Elementary School in the Greater Amsterdam School District for many years. After retiring from teaching, she continued to be very active by working at FMCC, seeking out the best deals at local garage sales, and spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.

080 - Ralph M. "Neil" Brown, 86, of Bethlehem, passed away March 4, 2022. Neil was a graduate of Middlebury College, and SUNY Albany with a master's degree in education. He served in the United States Army for two years. His teaching career spanned 29 years, including 27 years in the Bethlehem Central School District. He was always deeply appreciative of the greetings and notes from former students he received over the years. Upon retirement he was involved in numerous activities, often inspired by friends and family, that enriched his quality of life.

079 - Ross M. Vrooman, 72, of South Glens Falls, passed away on March 3, 2022. Ross was born on July 21, 1949, in Troy, NY. The family moved to Westport where he grew up and attended school. He then went into the Army and actively served in Vietnam. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 27th Artillery to a gun crew known as "The Professionals." He served from 1969 to 1970. Ross enjoyed playing guitar and was a Sound Engineer for various venues and made many friends along the way. He was a school bus driver for the South Glens Falls School District and was much loved by his "passengers."

078 - Master Sergeant Eugene J. Thornton, 79, of Clifton Park, more affectionately known as "Geno" to numerous generations of students at Lansingburgh High School, passed into the afterlife on March 4, 2022. Eugene had a 30 year military career spanning the Air Force, Army and National Guard. He also worked as a custodian at Lansingburgh High School, where teachers and students will always remember his infectious personality and heart to match.

077 - June Hutchinson Coyne, 89, of West Sand Lake, died Friday, March 4, 2022. She was raised in Auburn, Maine, and was a graduate of Edward Little High School. She held many jobs, starting as a soda jerk and black and white photo colorizer in Auburn, Maine where she worked when she wasn't cheerleading. She edited books at Boyd's Printing Company in Albany with her husband. June was a teacher's aide for special needs children at local schools for 15 years retiring 27 years ago.

076 - Douglas H. Hoyt, 89, of Schenectady, died Saturday, March 5, 2022. He graduated from Siena College in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He went on to receive a PhD in Medieval English Literature from the University of St. Louis in 1961. He began his teaching career at Colonie Central in the South Colonie School District, and taught there from 1958 to 1961, at Siena College from 1966 until 1973, and at the University of Missouri at St. Louis from 1964 to 1966. After his teaching career he worked for the NYS Department of Education, retiring in 1998. He volunteered for Concerned for the Hungry and was a former board member.

075 - Judy Markessinis, 77, of Nassau, passed away on March 7, 2022. Judy graduated from SUNY Albany in 1966, with a double major in mathematics and Russian. She then served in the Peace Corps, spending two years in the Philippines, teaching, but learning just as much. She began teaching math for East Greenbush Central Schools in 1969, retiring in 2001, but continued to teach at Sylvan Learning Centers in Albany for another decade. In retirement she became busier than ever, volunteering her time and energy at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School, at the Nassau Resource Center, and at Camp Fowler, usually in the kitchen.

074 - William "Bill" W. Houck, 84, of Palm Bay, Florida, formally of Gloversville, passed away February 24, 2022. He attended Oswego State University earning a degree in industrial arts with an additional concentration in drivers' education. The following year he was hired by Oneida County BOCES to teach drivers' education at Brookfield, Waterville, Sauquoit Valley and New York Mills. For the next 30 years he would teach drivers' education to generations of Mohawk Valley students, eventually retiring in June 1991. Although he loved teaching, his passion was the Adirondack Park and specifically Pine Lake in the town of Caroga Lake where he and his business partner developed Pine Lake Park – a complete Adirondack resort.

073 - Caroline Rose (Kopacki) Trzeciak, 82, a longtime resident of Elnora and Clifton Park, NY, entered into eternal rest February 28, 2022. Born in Schenectady and raised in Elnora, she graduated from Shenendehowa Central School where she was employed as a Bus driver for 35 Years. After retiring, she went back as a substitute driver for an additional 18 years. Caroline enjoyed working at Shenendehowa. In addition to her total of 53 years driving a school bus, she frequently did extra work such as field trips, security for sports games, and other events. If you knew Caroline, you know she was always on the go and had a smile on her face, always mingling with people, and getting to know them.

072 - Arthur M. Smith, 96, of Schenectady, passed away on Thursday February 10, 2022. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He was employed as a teacher and football/baseball coach at De La Salle High School in Chicago. Upon his return to the Schenectady area in 1955, he taught at Oneida Jr. High School and coached the Schenectady I.O.O.F. Indians Pop Warner football team for ten years. He ultimately retired as Administrator of the City of Schenectady Engineering Department.

071 - Josephine "Jo" Dyke, 92 of Omaha, Neb., passed away February 26, 2022. Jo was born in Brooklyn and grew up primarily in Albany. She attended high school at the Academy of Holy Names, and then majored in music and teaching at The College of Saint Rose. Jo was a special education and kindergarten teacher for 45 years in the Albany Public School System. Jo loved music and art; she could play several instruments along with having a beautiful soprano voice. Jo will be remembered for art, music, quirky ways, and her love for those around her.

070 - Michael R. Filkins, "Head," 61 of Rensselaer, passed away February 26, 2022. Born on April 8, 1960, in Albany, Mike was an Albany icon to most; he was known and loved by many. He worked for the Albany City School District for 26 years as a head custodian before retiring last year. In those years, he formed many friendships and made a lasting impression on many. He enjoyed his camp at the Alps Family Campground where he made many fond memories with family and friends.

069 - Doris (Mornhinweg) Webster, 96, of Queenbury, passed away February 27, 2022. Doris graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1944 and began working at the Glens Falls Insurance Co. as a Stenographer. After raising her two children she was employed by the Queensbury School District, starting in the cafeteria and finishing her career as Secretary in the Transportation Department. She made many lifelong friends during her years working at the school and those friendships continued long after her retirement in 1988.

068 - Sharon E. Connolly, 72 of Largo, Fla., temporarily residing in Ballston Lake, passed away on February 19, 2022. After a long career in hairdressing, Sharon went on to find her true passion as a school bus monitor for special needs students at the Ballston Spa Central School District, where she won countless awards for her dedication. These children often became her family and she loved them all with her whole heart. Their families became part of her family.

067 - Daniel Edward Murray of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away February 27, 2022, at the age of 81. Dan grew up in North Albany and attended Siena College. He earned his master's degree from SUNY Albany. He completed military service with the Army and Army Reserves, where he achieved the rank of captain. A history buff, Dan was an American history teacher at Hackett Middle School and Albany High School for many years. He also served Albany City Schools as the principal of School 20 for several years.

066 - Benjamin James Vinciguerra D.D.S., 87, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022. He earned his bachelor's degree from Union College and a master's degree from Albany State Teachers College. He taught chemistry and biology at Mohonasen High School where he was loved by his students. He went on to the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and, upon graduation, served as a Lieutenant Commander with the United States Public Health Department commissioned to the Coast Guard. He practiced orthodontics for 45 years in the Capital District.

064 - Paul K. Trombley, 67, of South Glens Falls, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. Born Nov. 29, 1954 in Plattsburgh, NY, he earned his masters of education from SUNY Albany. Paul was a well-respected business teacher and taught and retired from Glens Falls High School. He also taught at Stillwater High School, and South Glens Falls High School. Through the course of his teaching career, Paul was also a coach, mentoring the baseball, football, wrestling, soccer, and girls’ field hockey teams. He also was a baseball umpire for Section II in his retirement.

063 - Mary Ann Lally, 48, of Phelps and Albany, was given her angel wings early on December 25, 2021. Mary was born on May 16, 1973 in Clifton Springs, N.Y. and earned her Masters Degree in Special Education from Geneseo. She worked at Roosevelt ARC in Newark. She also worked at Victor Primary School where she received the Golden Apple Award. Mary moved to Albany and had been teaching at Columbia High School for over 10 years. She was also a tutor and just loved teaching.

062 - Jeffrey Scott (Jeff) Guilmette, 72, of Redmond, VA, passed away February 20, 2022. He taught at community colleges in Everett, WA, Odessa, TX, Denver, CO and Jamestown, NY. He also was a union activist during this time. He then moved to upstate New York, teaching first at Niskayuna High School before working as a social studies teacher at Saratoga Springs High School from 1987 to 2009. During this time Jeff also taught college-level classes on a part-time basis at New York State prisons and found this to be the most rewarding part of his career.

061 - Eva Marie Rosato of Coxsackie passed away on her birthday, February 23, 2022, at the age of 94. She was born in Trenton, N.J. When first coming to Coxsackie, Eva worked at the G.E. Factory in Coxsackie, and then later became a school bus driver and bus aide for School Transit Company in the Coxsackie-Athens School District for over forty years. Eva was also a member of the Coxsackie/Ravena Columbiettes.

060 - Kayla M. Martin, 30, of Troy, passed away on February 22, 2022. She was born September 26, 1991 in Clearwater, Fla. Before being married, Kayla worked as a store manager for Walgreen's in Lee, N.H. and in New York. In 2016, her desire for something more led her to her passion to work with children, as she became a daycare teacher. In 2018, she made the move into working with autistic children as a teacher's aide at St. Colman's Home in Watervliet.

059 - Elizabeth A. (Pascale) DelTorto, of Watervliet, passed from this life on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the age of 97. Elizabeth was employed by General Electric's Silicones Division in Waterford for twenty years and later by the North Colonie Central School District at Blue Creek Elementary School and Shaker High School as a cafeteria worker. Elizabeth retired at the age of 90 following twenty years of service. Liz, as she was known to many, loved her home and the times spent there with family and friends.

057 - Stephanie A. Hinds, 100, of Loudonville, died February 11, 2022. Stephanie grew up on the north side of Syracuse. She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1943 and taught in a one room schoolhouse after graduation. She resumed her teaching career once her children had grown, becoming credentialed as a special education teacher and working for the Board of Cooperative Education Services for many years at the Forts Ferry School in Latham. Many of the children and their parents remained in touch for years after their contact with Stephanie.

056 - Frances Radley, 63 of Averill Park, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. Born in Hudson, Fran was raised in Chatham and was a 1976 graduate of the Chatham High School. She moved to the Averill Park area after her marriage in 1981. Fran worked for a time at Matthew Bender and then started a career with the Averill Park School District working jobs in the different schools. She had retired in December from the West Sand Lake School where she had been a teacher's aide for a number of years.

055 - Shirley (McCabe) Burgess passed away in Pittsboro, NC on February 17, 2022. She was 88 years old. She was born on December 5, 1933, in Lawrence, MA and graduated from Dracut, MA High School, in 1951 and from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH in 1955, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. Shirley began her teaching career in 1955 at the Sudbury, MA Public Schools. In the early 1960's she joined the South Glens Falls Central School District and taught kindergarten and first grade as a part of the inaugural group of teachers at Tanglewood Elementary School. She retired in 2002. She was proud that she had taught more than 1000 children to read.

054 - Dominick J. DeCecco, 84, of Delmar, passed away on February 15, 2022. Dom graduated from Albany State College for Teachers with an A.B. and M.A. degree and went on to acquire 80 hours beyond the master's degree at numerous universities. He was a social studies teacher and district social studies supervisor for the Bethlehem Central School District for 36 years. He also was adjunct professor at SUNY Albany for 12 years. As teacher and supervisor, he initiated many in-service programs on the Holocaust, Latin America, Canada, Western and Eastern Europe and Asia. He was awarded Outstanding Social Studies Supervisor by the N.Y.S. Social Studies Supervisory Association in 1987 and received the Robert Neiderberger Award from the Capital District Council for the Social Studies.

053 - Nancy Dana Wilson, 84, of Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Born on April 3, 1937 in Rutland, VT, she graduated from East Wallingford High School of Vermont in 1955. She then went on to graduate from the University of Vermont in 1959 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English. Nancy also attended the College of Saint Rose to complete the Master of the Arts Program. She was an English Teacher for Glens Falls High School. She adored reading, volunteering for Meals for Wheels, and theatre.

051 - Gary R. Gillen, 82, of Guilderland, passed awayFriday, February 11, 2022. Gary was born in Schenectady and grew up in Guilderland. Gary graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1957 and was recruited by the University of Miami to play baseball. He later went on to attend Siena College. Gary was a 20-year Army Reservist, retiring in 2000. He had an enjoyable 30 year career as a printer for the Schenectady Herald, and later found his way to his second love, driving school bus for the Guilderland Central Schools where he was lovingly referred to as "Mr. Gary."

050 - Leonard B. Ditton, 84, of Delmar, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Born in Albany, Len was a member of the first graduating class at Guilderland Central School District in 1955. He was in the National Guard from 1956 to 1964, and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. Len worked for Hudson Valley Paper Co. for 43 years in a wide variety of roles including creating and managing the company's inventory systems utilizing Fortran. After retiring from Hudson Valley Paper, he became a school bus driver for 16 years with the Bethlehem Central School District.

049 - Robert G. Acker, 80, of Cohoes, died February 7, 2022. Bob graduated from SUNY Albany, with a master's degree in education. He dedicated his 30-year career to working with special needs students in the Brentwood School District in Long Island as a special education teacher. After retirement, he moved to Amagansett, N.Y., where, ever the renaissance man, he leaned into his love of gardening, art and cooking - baking at the Barefoot Contessa, working as a personal chef and opening a bakery. Tiring of Northeast winters, he retired a second time to Palm Springs, Calif. where he enjoyed the abundant sunshine and warm temperatures.

048 - Robert M. Cacchillo, 79, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady in 1960, and received a B.S. Degree from the State University of Oswego and his Masters Degree from the State University of Albany. Bob was a Technology Education Teacher at Guilderland Central Schools from 1966-1998. He was named New York State Technology Teacher of the Year in 1991.

047 - Michelle Bennett, of Glens Falls passed away on February 5, 2022 at age 53. She was born on November 17, 1968, in Boston, Massachusetts. No one out worked or out hustled her on the court, in the classroom or in life. She was fiercely loyal and devoted to her two passions of family and basketball. Described as a "pillar of the Queensbury Middle School Community" Michelle served as a 6th Grade ELA teacher, Department Chair and Varsity Basketball Coach in Queensbury, Lake George, and Hadley-Luzerne for more than 22 years.

046 - Ann Marie Bowen, 84, of Guilderland, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. After graduating from High School, Ann received her B.S. from Oneonta State. She also received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Albany. Ann devoted her life to teaching and was the first teacher at the Wildwood School. She taught special education in Guilderland School District, Norwich, Philadelphia, Colchester, Vt. and Cobleskill Elementary. Ann was a truly amazing person who touched the hearts of all those around her.

045 - Joy S. Harding, 93 of Guilderland, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and earned a master's degree at Florida State University. She then moved to Scotia, to assume a position as a teacher in the elementary schools. Joy participated with enthusiasm in many activities, including singing in the Capitol Hill Choral Society, weaving as a member of the Mohawk-Hudson Weaver's Guild, and curling at the Albany Curling Club.

044 - Marilynn "Lynn" Grace Wochinger of Porters Corners was born October 1, 1923, in Oneida, N.Y. and entered heaven January 30, 2022. After graduating from Oneida High School third in her class in 1941, she attended Cortland Normal School (now SUNY) to become a teacher. Upon her graduation, she moved to Long Island and worked first in the Malverne School District and finished her 30 year long career in the Lawrence School District. She was an exceptional teacher. She was an avid reader who kept records of all the books she read in her 98 years.

043 - Gilbert E. Truesdale, of Glens Falls, passed away January 27, 2022. He truly enjoyed teaching typing and Business Math at South High for 30 years, being a policeman in South Glens Falls, and retirement in Maine and Florida. Gil treated everyone with the same utmost respect, with no regard to status. "We so enjoyed times with dad sledding at the Country Club in Queensbury, body surfing in Maine, endless cups of coffee, and always a game of Rummy."

042 - Deborah Ann Tator, 49 of East Greenbush, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022. Deborah was born on April 5, 1972, in Albany. Debbie worked as a seventh grade social studies teacher for the majority of her career and served several years as the curriculum leader. Her kids were everything to her and she never stopped talking about them, even at home. She always went above and beyond whether it be supporting students in need or volunteering to help with leadership committees.

041 - Theodora "Tedi" S. Jeram, 93, of Glenmont, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. Tedi was born in Plattsburgh. A graduate of St. John's Academy and Plattsburgh Teachers College, she earned her master's degree in reading education at SUNY Albany. She taught in both the Bethlehem School District and Albany City Schools. Tedi then began a career at the N.Y.S. Department of Civil Service until her retirement.

040 - Anthony Richard "Rich" Turi, 89, of South Cambridge, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022. Rich was born on June 25, 1932 in Paterson, NJ, and served in the United States Coast Guard from 1952-1954. He started teaching science and math in 1958 in New Jersey at Midland Park and later Park Ridge High Schools, then in NY at Mechanicville High School and finally 20 years at Hoosick Falls Central School, retiring in 1985. Over the years he coached many sports, but his love was football which he coached at different levels until 2004, when he retired from coaching.

039 - Deborah Dix Maxwell, 73, of Elizabethtown, NY, passed away on February 3, 2022. She started her career in the Syracuse Public School system in 1971 as an elementary school teacher. Debbie moved to Schenectady with her husband in 1985 and there began to work for the Schenectady Public School District, teaching Junior High School and High School students until her retirement in 2012 after 40 years of teaching. She was a fierce advocate for children, education, and educational reform and became quite active in the Schenectady Federation of Teachers, serving as a Vice President and on multiple committees in the union.

038 - Eileen A. Littrell, 81, of Rotterdam, passed away January 29, 2022. Born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in August, 1940, she attended St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1961 as a registered nurse. Eileen worked in the St. Clare's Hospital emergency room for several years and also for the Schalmont School District. After leaving the nursing field, she was later called to social work, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from the College of St. Rose and then a Master's Degree from Columbia University when she was 52. Eileen worked in New York City for 10 years before returning to Schenectady.

037 - Edward "Ned" Roach, 85, of Queensbury, passed away December 30, 2021. Ned was a 1954 graduate of South Glens Falls High School. He also received his BS in Education from the Plattsburgh State College. Ned began his teaching career in the Warrensburg School System. In 1962, he moved to Hudson Falls and continued teaching for 35 years in the Hudson Falls School System, until his retirement in 1997. For 40 years, Ned dedicated his free time to coaching basketball in both the Hudson Falls and Glens Falls Schools.

036 - Chris Murtha of Davis, California, originally of Schenectady, passed away on January 29, 2022. Chris was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and received her BS and MS degrees from SUNY, Albany. She was a teacher at Ballston Spa High School until moving to California in 1986 where she was employed at Homestead High School in Cupertino, California, until her retirement.

035 - Annie Wilhelm-Ellis passed away January 4, 2022. She was born in Camden, New York, in 1951. After graduating from Camden High School she moved to Rome and then Syracuse, working as a waitress, phone operator, and eventually a school bus driver. She adored the kids, and vice-versa. With her husband and children she moved to Auburn in 1998, working at the Gavras Center as a classroom aide for preschoolers with special needs. An extraordinary self-taught calligrapher and artist, she specialized in doing art in the classroom, winning statewide recognition for her creativity and ability to involve the kids.

034 - Harriet Barton Spiezio, 91, a resident of Greenwich, formerly of Johnsonville, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022. She worked for the Greenwich Central School for over 28 years, as Cafeteria Manager. Harriet enjoyed making crafts, quilts, towels, and homemade gifts which she gifted at Christmas. Her Yorkie Bijou and her were inseparable and together they were best friends. Harriet's main goal in life was to make her family happy, Wednesday dinners with family were very special to her.

033 - Sheila Joan Randall, 88, of Niskayuna, died February 3, 2022. After she married in Manhattan in 1954, she moved to Georgia, where Sheila taught in an elementary school while her husband served in the Army at Fort Benning. The couple later moved to upstate New York. Sheila earned a master's degree in education from the University at Albany and taught reading for 23 years in South Colonie Central Schools. Sheila retired at age 55. She took continuing education classes in the North Colonie Central School District, including ballroom dancing, belly dancing and clowning. Her clown name was Polka Dotty, and she visited hospitals in the Albany area.

032 - Florence "Ann" (Meneely) Coltey, 81, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. Ann graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1958. She was a Secretary for the ASC Office and US Catheter and a Payroll Clerk for Nibco before becoming a Teacher's Assistant in Remedial Reading for Fort Ann Central School where she retired in 2002 after 26 years. Ann was also a member of the Merry Mohicans, Adirondack Bluegrass League, Northeast Association of Country Western Entertainment, and the Washington County Expo Committee. Her enjoyments included a passion for photography and she always had her camera with her.

031 - Patricia A. Fitzpatrick, 87 of Loudonville, joined her loved ones that went to Heaven before her on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Born on January 4, 1935, in Albany, she retired from the Office of Mental Health after many years as a clerical supervisor. She was also a teacher's assistant at Bell Top School in the East Greenbush School District. She loved taking bus trips with the senior center, going to the movies and watching live theater and ballet.

030 - Tuulia J. Fuller, 86, a resident of Berlin, VT, passed away on November 20, 2021. Tuulia was born in Tampere, Finland on July 16, 1935. Tuulia met her husband in Iceland in 1957, where he was stationed as a member of the Air Force Jazz Band, and she was working for the summer. Tuulia attended Helsinki School of Economics, earning a Master of Economic Sciences degree. Her skills included various levels of fluency in six languages, which she used to translate German for a NASA consultant. She worked as a substitute teacher for 31 years in Berlin, as well as a home health aide. She volunteered helping the elderly and for Feeding the Homeless Community Outreach.

029 - Dorothy Eva Nye, 94, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and went on to attend Albany Business College. Dorothy enjoyed a career of over 20 years with the South Colonie School District as a data entry clerk. She was also a talented crafter and enjoyed knitting, cross stitching and crocheting. Throughout the years, Dorothy made countless hats, mittens, baby blankets and of course homemade Halloween costumes for her grandchildren.

028 - Lorraine A. (Korin) Barabasz, 73, of Ballston Spa, died January 30, 2022. She was a 1966 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, New York and a 1970 graduate of SUNY - Oneonta with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master's degree from Russell Sage. She was employed at Ballston Spa Central Schools as an elementary school teacher in grades second and third for 34 years retiring in 2004. Lorraine loved traveling, reading, crafting, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

027 - Stepha Poraski Vega, 96, of Mechanicville, died Friday evening January 28, 2022. Born on Frog Island ( Riverside) Town of Stillwater, July 2, 1925, Stepha was a 1942 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Stepha worked for the Stillwater Central School District as a cafeteria aide and secretary for a number of years, and previously at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for nine years. An active mother and resident, Stepha was a former troop leader for the Girl Scouts, a member of the Mechanicville Home Bureau, where she and others used their crocheting and knitting skills to provide homemade clothing items for the needy.

Beverly Jean was a graduate of Columbia High School and Russell Sage College where she majored in elementary education and did graduate work at The College of Saint Rose. 025 - Kathryn Lois Dunn Dempster Sheldon of Allaus, NY died January 17, 2022. She was born in Woodbury, NJ on September 14, 1925. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School, SUNY at Oneonta with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and SUNY at Albany with a Master's Degree in Reading. Kathryn retired from the Schenectady School District as a Reading specialist in 1981. Earlier teaching positions included Cedarhurst, Long Island and Aruba, N.W.I. During WWII, Kathryn worked in Washington, DC for the Office of Strategic Services which was a precursor of the C.I.A. Kathryn was a former member of the A.A.U.W. and the Schenectady Light Opera. She was a current member of the NSDAR Schenectady Chapter.

024 - Catharine "Cathie" Currin, 82, formerly of Aylmer, Ontario Canada and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away January 22, 2022. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1959 with a dual major in French and English Literature.She became an American citizen in 1967. She was always torn about being so far from her family in Canada, and family vacations often involved trips back to Aylmer. Cathie earned a Master's degree in Library Science at SUNY Albany. She worked as a school librarian in the Scotia-Glenville and Niskayuna School Districts, and as a part-time children's librarian at the Saratoga Springs Public Library.

023 - Richard P. Billera of East Greenbush passed away January 11, 2022. He was born on June 17, 1944, in Brooklyn and even while earning economics degrees from City University of New York, he taught in State mental institutions, thus beginning a long, unbroken career in public service. Right out of college Richard began serving with the U.S. Army, 4th Division, in Vietnam. A combat veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary honorable service. He and his wife complemented each other well. He cheerfully supported her passion for fostering nearly 90 mentally disabled children; she supported his many multifaceted, overlapping careers and intellectual pursuits. Following military service, Richard resumed his career in State government agencies, becoming a leading national authority on Medicaid. After retiring from State service, he began a second career with the Federal agency that administers the Medicaid program, CMS.

022 - Sister Jane C. Leach, RSM (formerly Sister Bernard Mary) of Albany died on January 19, 2022 . Born in Ilion, N.Y., she had been a Sister of Mercy for 65 years. Sister earned a bachelor's degree from Siena College, Loudonville. She ministered as a teacher at St. Mary's in Oneonta, St. Joseph's in Rensselaer, St. Patrick's in Johnstown, Blessed Sacrament in Albany, St. Agnes in Cohoes, and Waterford Central School. Sister Jane enjoyed a simple lifestyle; she loved nature, especially birds and plants. She could readily identify multiple species of both and was in her glory when she could spend time at Five Rivers or at the ocean. Reflective of her commitment to protect the environment, she maintained current memberships in the Sierra Club, Earth Justice and Nature Conservancy.

021 - John Peter Mayotte, 79, of St. Petersburg, FL, died January 14, 2022. Raised in Hudson Falls, NY, John began his professional career as a teacher in 1965 in Coxsackie, NY. In 1966, John was named Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Coxsackie-Athens High School where he led the team to six straight sectional championships. In 1978, he was named head coach at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL where he led the team for 13 successful seasons. From 1991-2002, John served as head coach for the Troy State Trojans in Troy, AL. He received the Johnny Podres Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into seven baseball Halls of Fame.

020 - Judith A. (Califano) Wolf, 75, of Mechanicville, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born on May 6, 1946, she grew up in Schenectady. After graduating from the State University of New York at Albany, she started a long career helping students in and out of the classroom as an English teacher at Gowana Middle School in the Shenendehowa School District. She always looked for humor in the day to day. After she retired from teaching, she enjoyed visiting and playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her friends and family.

019 - Susan Mesches, 73, passed away in Tucson, Ariz. on January 7, 2022. She was a graduate of Creighton University and The University of New England. Susan was an elementary school teacher for 23 years after leaving a successful career in banking of 19 years with Bank of the West to follow her passion. She touched the lives of many of her students and their families in Ohio, New York and Colorado where she taught and remained in touch with some even after her retirement from the Boulder Valley School District in 2015.

018 - Donald Clyde Egry, 84, of Verbank, New York passed away on January 16, 2022. After graduating from Draper High School in Rotterdam, NY, Don attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. In the fall of 1960 he auditioned for and was accepted in the US Military Band at West Point as pianist and music librarian. After discharge from the Army, Don worked as a music teacher at the Boys' School at Letchworth Village State School in Rockland County and later as a music teacher at LaGrange Junior High in Arlington Schools in Dutchess County. He subsequently  moved from music to Guidance Counselor in the same school.

017 - Lena (Lee) A. Orsino, 95, passed away January 16, 2022. Her love of children as a pediatric nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, NY continued in her personal life. Mom was a great wife and mother from 1956 to 1963, when she returned to the workforce to get her teaching certificate at Russell Sage in Troy and become a school nurse teacher. In 1964 she started her 19 year career with the Schenectady School system at Linton High School and then was assigned to Grout Park, Fulton and Van Corlaer schools. She loved her career and her kids. Lee was very active for decades in AAUW, the Schenectady Alumni Chapter of the College of St. Rose, and the Fancy Ladies Chapter of the Red Hats.

016 - Martin W. Leukhardt, 86 of Latham, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Martin was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy in 1957. He served on active duty for over five years with the Florida Group of the Atlantic Reserve Fleet (MDAP) as well as with the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. From there, Martin would continue his naval service for 34 years with the Naval Reserves. From 1964 to 1966, Martin taught in the Binghamton City School District and at SUNY Oswego. In 1966, he joined NYSUT. At NYSUT, he worked as a field representative and senior labor relations specialist where he prepared and made presentations to organizations including the National Labor Relations Board. Martin retired from NYSUT in 1996 with 30 years of distinguished service.

015 - H. Gerald Hare of Glens Falls, NY and formerly of Falmouth, MA, 87, passed away January 9, 2022. Dr. Hare "Gerry", originally from West Newton and Duxbury, MA moved to Falmouth, MA to start a private medical practice. After 25 years he closed his practice and travelled the country working locum tenens for various medical groups before joining Hudson Headwaters Healthcare Network (HHHN) where he practiced 20 more years until his retirement. He was an adjunct teacher at Cape Cod Community College and SUNY Adirondack. He enjoyed working with and helping people.

014 - Ethel Blatt, born in Brooklyn on April 29, 1932, passed away in Albany, NY on January 15, 2022. She was a teacher of Special Education in the Syracuse City School District and the Albany Hebrew Academy. In addition to her expertise in knitting, needle point, and cooking, Ethel was an avid reader. She loved most sports, especially Boston Sports teams, Tiger Woods, and most of all, SU football and basketball.

013 - Leonard Ross Taylor, born August 8, 1923 in Pottersville, NY; died January 1, 2022, in Collegedale, TN. Commonly known as "Len", he lived most of his life in and around Fort Ann, NY. Len worked on a farm as a necessary worker for the war effort during WWII. He also was a plane watcher several hours a week. He worked in the Glens Falls Box Factory, the Union Bag Factory, and as a carpenter apprentice at the Rome Air Base. He bought and operated a farm in Whitehall, where he and his wife also drove school bus. He was a charter member of the Fort Ann Rescue Squad and a member of the Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Company for several years.

012 - Edwina L. Anderson, 75, formerly of Mohawk and Ilion, NY, died in Bluffton, South Carolina January 7, 2022. Edwina “Eddie” was born in Queens, NY in 1946 and grew up in Islip, Long Island. Edwina earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY-Oneonta and went on to teach elementary education for 33 years at Barringer Road Elementary School in Ilion, NY. She was extremely involved in the New York State United Teachers Association. She was also very active in the Ilion Little Theater, both onstage and off. She retired to Sun City in Bluffton, SC in 2005, enjoying life and activities with family and friends, old and new. She continued her love of theater with the Sun City Theater Club.

011 - Helen Cohen Goldberger passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the age of 88. She attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from Russell Sage College in 1954 with a Teaching degree. She later obtained her Masters at Sage Graduate School. Helen was employed by the Schenectady City School District for an incredible 64 years as a fulltime teacher, then as a substitute teacher following her retirement. Helen was a classroom teacher and also taught music. She was an accomplished pianist and served as the accompanist for numerous holiday and other concerts and events sponsored by the school district. Helen also worked with inmates as part of the Threshold Program at the Schenectady County Jail for 15 years.

010 - William C. Link, 86, a longtime resident of Averill Park, died on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Born in Hudson, Bill served in the Navy after high school and then attended HVCC, State University at Oswego and the State University at Albany where he earned his master's degree. Bill had a long career at HVCC where he taught Computer Programing. He had resided in Averill Park from 1959-2021. Bill was a former Cub Scout leader and a former member of the Sand Lake Kiwanis. Bill had a 1959 Triumph Sunbeam, which he lovingly restored and enjoyed riding around the countryside in.

009 - Joan F. Aldous, 77, of Queensbury, passed away Sunday evening, January 9, 2022. After graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1966, Joan was a teacher at Queensbury Elementary School for 34 years. She was an active member of the Warren County Historical Society, and most recently served as Queensbury's Town Historian. She was instrumental in raising funds to restore the Civil War monument in downtown Glens Falls. She established the Warren County History Camp to introduce children to local history, which she operated for several years.

008 - James "Ned" Deuel, 80, of Syracuse, NY, passed away January 2, 2022. Ned was born in Broadalbin, NY. Ned graduated from SUNY Cortland. He began a 30 year career teaching Social Studies at Westhill High School and later at Cicero North Syracuse High School retiring in 1996. He was an active union leader and a past President of the Onondaga County Teacher's Association. In 1976 he helped organize a teachers strike. It continues to be the only teachers strike in Onondaga County. Following retirement Ned went on to become an educational consultant and served two terms on the Syracuse City School Board.

007 - Eleanor (Pelersi) Scarano, 99, of Loudonville, passed into eternal life January 5, 2022. Born in Albany on July 11, 1922, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and was a popular physical education teacher at Troy High School, Shaker High School, and the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany. She loved living in Loudonville and raising her four boys. She enjoyed tennis, curling, and playing bridge with her friends.

006 - Susan Ann Winters, 71, of Schenectady passed away on January 3, 2022. She was a 1968 graduate from Scotia Glenville High School. For many years, Susan worked in the Schenectady (Mont Pleasant) City School District as a paraprofessional. Being a Mom and surrounding herself with family was the most important part of her life. Susan was talented at crocheting and always found crafting projects to work on. If she was not busy creating something beautiful, she was enjoying a book or going out to breakfast or lunch, especially to the Glenville Queen.

005 - Joseph A. "Papa Joe" Tannatta, Sr., 80, entered peacefully into eternal rest on New Year's Day, 2022. In his earlier years, Joe owned and operated Kinderlane Nursery School in Guilderland for 25 years, and later retired from the Schalmont School District after 10 years of service.His favorite days were spent leisurely driving his prized Mercedes for family time on Sacandaga Lake, Sunday family dinners, or to sit on his son's front porch in Voorheesville where the grand-kids would soak up every "Papa Joe" story full of words of wisdom and tales from "Goose Hill."

004 -  James Francis Aiken, 81 of Whitehall passed away Monday, January 3, 2022. After graduating from Castleton Teacher's College, he began his teaching career in the Salem, NY school district. Shortly thereafter, he was able to take a position at the Whitehall Jr. Sr. High School where he taught for 30 years. A lifelong Whitehall resident, Jim dedicated his life to family and to serving his community. He was a member of the Jaycees, the Skenesborough Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad and the Whitehall Canal Festival Committee. He served on the Whitehall Town Board and was a steadfast supporter of many other community related activities throughout his years.

003 - Kathryn (Kay) Frey Canty, of Schenectady, passed away January 2, 2022. Born in Corning, New York on October 23, 1937, she graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1960. For the next 25 years of her life, she committed herself to raising her nine children, before going back to work as a teacher in the Schenectady City School District. In 2011, Kay and her husband Ed were honored with the title of Schenectady Patroons for their distinguished service to the community.

002 - Walter Uhlig of Cicero, NY, 84, passed on January 1, 2022. He received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Clemson University where he played football, basketball and track. After graduating from college, he taught Biology and coached football in Wilkinsburg, PA. In 1965, he moved to Cicero and worked for the North Syracuse Central School District. There he was a Biology Teacher, Dean and Associate Principal. He was able to do this while working as a football and track coach for the district.

001 - Francis Robert "Bob" Garn, 87, of Westvale, passed away on January 1, 2022. He was a graduate of Vocational High School and later attended Manlius Military Academy, as well as West Point Military Academy. Bob obtained a Bachelors Degree from Colegate University and a Masters Degree from Syracuse University. After graduating Bob became a teacher at Chittenango High School, where he also coached football. He also worked security for several years at The New York State Fairgrounds.
