Catherine J. Boyd, 91, of Schenectady passed away in April 2020, at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. Born in Sumpter, South Carolina and raised in Schenectady, Catherine graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended New York University for two years. She went on to serve students for nearly three decades as a dedicated teacher and library aide for the Schenectady Public Schools, many of those years at the Woodlawn Middle School. Along with her husband (Ralph Sr.) and other close colleagues, she helped co-found the Schenectady Branch of the NAACP, and was active for many years in the Schenectady Community Action Program, the Interfaith Community of Schenectady, and the Schenectady Inner City Ministry ("SCIM").

Marcia R. Liebundguth Popolizio, 78, a resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Naperville, IL, passed away on December 23, 2020 in Oswego, IL. She was born December 19, 1942 in Schenectady, NY. Marcia grew up in Schenectady, New York and graduated valedictorian from Colonie Central High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from SUNY at Albany. After graduation, Marcia taught middle school English in Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake until she married in 1967 and moved to Illinois. From 1975 until her retirement in 2002, Marcia taught high school English and Special Education for West Aurora School District 129 in Aurora, Illinois.

Michael D. Murray, 47, of Frankfort, NY, passed away on January 9, 2020. Mike was born on October 27, 1973, in New Hartford, NY. After graduating from Ilion High School, he attended Utica College, graduating with a Master's Degree in English Education. Mike was employed as a middle school English teacher in Little Falls for many years and was very devoted to his students. He was an avid listener of music and attended numerous live concert venues. He was an ardent collector of Marvel Comic Books.

Carol L. Denison passed away Sunday December 20, 2020. She was born on November 7, 1948 in Ilion. Carol worked for the Ilion School district until her retirement. She continued to dedicate her time to helping the district for many years after by, volunteering to work the polls at the local elections, working as a bus monitor and coming in on occasion when a position needed filling. She loved the job and she loved the people she worked with and made many lifelong friends that she considered family.

Judge Ethel Louise Brewer was born on February 19, 1950, in Utica, New York. She died Wednesday, September 9, 2020. She held various positions in higher education at Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, NY; Union College, Schenectady, NY; Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY; and Benedict College, Columbia, SC. In 2012, she was appointed by then Governor Nikki Haley to serve as a Summary Court Judge in Richland County, SC. She was a dedicated servant until her recent retirement in August 2020. Posted March 26, 2021.

Carl Silver of Greenfield, MA passed away September 26, 2020. A Franklin County, MA, resident for 46 years, Carl was born in Brooklyn, New York. Carl grew up a precocious child who always marched to the beat of his own drum. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, a high school biology teacher, a guidance counselor, a U.S. park ranger, and then earned a Ph.D. in Psychology. Posted March 26, 2021.

Elizabeth Jane Bindewald, 84, of Schenectady, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020. She taught Mathematics in Valley Stream (Long Island), Bethlehem School District, and substituted at many other schools throughout the Capital District. 

Kevin Thomas Dowd, 68, died on Friday, December 11, 2020 in York, Pa. The cause was complications from COVID-19. For 35 years, he taught social studies and history to junior high students at Gardner-Dickinson School in Wynantskill. He served as the middle school's eighth-grade advisor, the vice-president of the teachers' union and a soccer coach.

Vincent Joseph Gallo, 82, of Rotterdam passed away on December 27, 2020. He was born in Schenectady on January 28, 1938. He was a teacher and coach at Schalmont Central School for over 30 years.

Barbara Sue (Maichele) Ille, 84, of Ballston Lake, died on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Barbara worked as an administrative assistant at the General Electric Company. She was also a school bus driver for the BH-BL School District.

Robert M. Lea, 88, of Egremont, Mass., passed away on June 1, 2020. Bob did research at Brookhaven National Laboratory and then was a physics professor at City College of City University of New York until retirement in 1992.

Bonnie Joyce Dorton Greeson, 78, of Lexington, KY, died August 10, 2020. She was an educator in many capacities and at several institutions including: Bryan Station Jr. High, Lexington, KY; Butler Senior High, Louisville, KY; Shaker Jr. High, Latham, NY; Garfield High School, Dale City, VA; Crestwood High School, Atlanta GA; and Haynes Bridge Middle School, GA.

Marianne O'Callaghan was born in New York City on August 31, 1941, and died June 27, 2020, in Jensen Beach, Fla. She was a dedicated and inspiring art teacher for 35 years in Schenectady. After moving to Jensen Beach in 2007, she became a fixture at Jensen Beach High School as a substitute teacher.

Gordon F. Puls, 79, of Green, Ohio passed away Thursday April 16th, 2020 from complications related to COVID-19. Gordon taught Geometry at Southwestern Central High School before moving to Ohio to work at Alliance High School. Gordon retired as a vocational guidance counselor.

Clayton A. Dyer, 86, of Scarborough, Maine died April 7, 2020. He served in the United States Air Force as a radar technician on the F-94C Fighter/Interceptor Aircraft from 1954-1957. He taught biology at South Portland High School for 29 years from 1961-1990 during which he served as department head for five years.

Ralph Angelus Caruso Jr., 87, of Glenville, died Saturday, May 2, 2020. In 1952, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving on the USS Tweety until his honorable discharge. Ralph worked as a computer specialist and/or computer consultant for GE, Honeywell, Amsterdam Printing Company, and CLT. Some of his most fulfilling work came following retirement, when he worked as a door monitor at the Scotia elementary school attended by his eldest grandchildren.

Sister Theresa Fournier, CSJ, 93, of Latham, died Friday, December 18, 2020. For 21 years, Sister Theresa taught students in junior high in various schools in the Ogdensburg Diocese. After completing her doctorate, Sister Theresa began teaching history on the college level at Clinton County Community College, Plattsburgh, Maria Regina College, Syracuse, and Utica College and Mohawk Valley Community College, both in Utica, N.Y.

On November 21, 2020, Sandra Jeanne Debus, 71, of Round Lake died. Sandy taught remedial reading at Berlin Central Schools and then spent 36 years as a school teacher at Tesago Elementary, part of the Shenendehowa school system in Clifton Park, retiring in 2010.

Madelene Weiderman, 102, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020. Mrs. Weiderman was employed in the cafeteria at the Perth Central School for twenty-five years, retiring in 1982.

Shirley (Knights) MacMillin, 93, of Ballston Spa, passed away December 29, 2020. Shirley taught at the Galway Central School, the South Onondaga School district, and the Shenendehowa School district, teaching in Jonesville, and the Arongen and Chango buildings. She finished out her teaching career as an elementary school librarian.

Henry "Hank" Landau, 91, of Colonie, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Hank was in the U.S. Navy 1945-46 and took part in two atomic bomb tests called "Operation Crossroads" at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Pacific Theater. While in public life Hank served on a number of trade, union, and public service councils including being president of the New York State Union Label Service Trades. Hank was a good friend of the South Colonie Teachers' Association prior to and during the 1975 teachers' strike. His wife was employed at the South Colonie District Office and refused to cross the picket line. The District fired her from her position. Hank took her case to court. Her job was offered to her and she resigned, after her moral victory.

Victor R. Gabriel, "Ron," 73 of Hudson, passed away on December 31, 2020. He retired after 35 years as a math teacher at Ichabod Crane Central School, where he coached boy's bowling and volleyball.

Donna M. Milkins, 73 of Ballston Lake, died Sunday, December 20, 2020. Miss Milkins was an elementary school teacher for five years at the Arongen building and the remainder at the Chango building in the Shenendehowa Central School District where she retired after 29 dedicated years in 1999.

Janet W. (Wells) Clark, 89, of Amsterdam, died December 12, 2020. She taught elementary school at Amsterdam for several years before becoming a guidance counselor for the Canajoharie Central School System, retiring in 1988.

Linda Cable, 74, of Schenectady, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. Linda received her teaching degree from SUNY Albany. She taught in the Schenectady School District for 33 years before retiring in 2002.

René C. Roser, 87, of Fort Plain, New York died Monday, December 14, 2020.  He served in the United States Marine Corps. René began his education career at Bethlehem Central School in Delmar teaching history and retired from the Canajoharie High School History Department in 1990.

Shirley K. Brazee, 98, of Scotia, passed away December 28, 2020. Shirley began work with the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake SD first as a bus driver, then moved into the O'Rourke Middle School. There, Shirley worked as a Head Secretary for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999.

Dawne Rose Guidry, 78, of Scotia died December 28, 2020. Dawne taught at South Colonie High School and later worked as a caseworker at the Schenectady County Department of Social Services, then went on to spend the rest of her career training foster parents at the Center for the Development of Human Services; the curriculum she developed there is still being used today to help children in care.

Harry Barner, 91 of East Greenbush, died December 25, 2020. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Harry started teaching industrial arts at Rensselaer City schools in 1958 and retired in 1991 but continued to substitute teach for many years.

Jacob "Jake" Nolfo, 93, of Albany,  died December 28, 2020. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Pennsylvania in the Pacific Theater.  Jake was a high school teacher, guidance counselor and district supervisor for many years in Philadelphia, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Yorktown and for most of his career in Kingston, NY.

Joseph Craig Doherty, 83, of Clifton Park, died December 22, 2020. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Military Policeman in Japan for three years. After college, Craig worked as an administrator in the Mechanicville School District, Pineview Christian Academy, and the Shenendehowa Central School District.

Anthony "Tony" F. Levitto, 91, of Latham,  entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Tony was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a football coach for many local high schools and retired as a driver education teacher from Albany Public Schools.

William Robert Collins, 87, of Canton, NY,  died Wednesday, December 16, 2020. Fulfilling his patriotic duty, in 1955 Bill joined the Army and was stationed in Korea. After an honorable discharge in 1957, Bill began his teaching career at Coxsackie-Athens Central School teaching both French and English. In 1963, Bill was hired by Niskayuna Central Schools as a teacher of French. He retired as
department chair of foreign languages at Niskayuna.

Janet R. Richards, 91, of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, died December 13, 2020.  During her career, she was a librarian for schools in Skaneateles, Chittenango, and South Colonie. Janet loved books and children.

Kevin C. Halloran, of Melrose passed away December 13, 2020. Born in Cohoes on July 19, 1934, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a beloved English teacher at Hoosic Valley High School. He also wrote op-ed pieces for the Albany Times-Union and the Schenectady Gazette, encompassing his quirky humor and most importantly, his belief in social justice.

Rolana Starr Hobb, 73, passed away December 17, 2020 in Oneonta. Starr was a Professor at SUNY Oneonta, who found great enjoyment from reading.

Helene Margaret Ann (Mason) "Tootsie" Mott Bradfield, 92, of Salesville, AR, died December 9, 2020. She began her career as Secretary to the Principal of Pinewood Elementary School (Mohonasen School District), working for the State of New York for several years and then for the American Embassy for 7 years in Saudi Arabia. Her last position before retirement was working for the C.I.A. during the Reagan Administration.

Robert Atwood, 85, of Scoia, died 12/02/2020. A native of Scotia, he served as a lieutenant in the US Army, stationed primarily In Frankfurt, Germany. Atwood taught English and journalism at Scotia-Glenville High School from 1960 to 1973. He was appointed English department chairman in 1967. In 1973 he moved to Maryland where he taught at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda until his retirement in 1996. Under his guidance, the school newspaper won national recognition in many competitions. 
William S. “Stan” McMillan, 96, formerly of Canajoharie, died Thursday, December 10, 2020. Stan enlisted in the United States Navy and served until his honorable discharge in 1945. During that time, he was stationed on the USS Bull and the USS Bates. He was a sonarman on a destroyer escort where he made 14 trips across the Atlantic Ocean. His ship was also part of the D Day invasion. Following the Battle at Okinawa, where the USS Bates sunk, Stan was then assigned to Key West, Florida where he taught Sonar. After the war, he taught instrumental music in Canajoharie and Ilion Central Schools where he was the Music Department Chairman.

Angela R. Farry passed away December 10, 2020. She was born in Schenectady, New York on July 18, 1937. She worked as a secretary and retired from Scotia-Glenville High School.

A married couple who were both teachers in Texas died of COVID-19 complications while holding hands. Paul Blackwell, 61, and Rose Mary Blackwell, 65, died on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Both Paul and Rose Mary were longtime teachers within the Grand Prairie Independent School District and had been working until they became sick in December. Rose Mary was a second-grade teacher at Travis World Language Academy and just reached her 20-year anniversary at the school. Paul was a PE teacher and football coach at Fannin Middle School.

Patricia Perkins Brown, 69, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. She was born in Ballston Spa, NY on June 28, 1951 and was a 1969 graduate of Ballston Spa High School. Patricia worked for SUNY Cortland for many years.

Sharon Lubin was born on May 26, 1946. She passed away on November 14, 2020.  Sharon was a retired New York City teacher and a Union activist. She marched in many protests for equal treatment of all - from farmworkers rights and Black Lives Matter events to teacher's picket lines and other labor and social justice protests.

Warren E. Mannix, 77 of Clifton Park, and formerly of Cohoes died Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He graduated from Cohoes High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Warren started teaching at Cohoes High School in 1969 where he taught math and then photography until retiring in 1998. While at C.H.S., he had a very successful career, coaching both Boys and Girls Junior Varsity Basketball teams and more recently coaching Girls Varsity Basketball. He had served as president of the Cohoes Teachers' Association for 14 years.

Sally B. Conley, 88, of Glenville, passed away Saturday December 5, 2020. Sally and her husband owned and operated Conley Designs in Schenectady until the early 90's. She later worked at the Scotia-Glenville Middle and High schools.

Pauline Margaret Walsh (Lajeunesse), 92, of Niskayuna, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020. She was employed by the NYS Department of Criminal Justice and later retired from the County of Schenectady. Pauline fondly recalled teaching in a one room school house, never forgetting to mention with a smile that her younger brothers had to address her as 'Miss Lajeunesse'.

Alma H. Williams, of Ilion, who turned 95 on Easter Sunday, died on Thursday, December 3, 2020. During World War II, Alma attended high school from 6 a.m. until noon in Amsterdam and then worked in the office of Mohawk Carpet Mills, from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Upon graduation from college, she moved to West Winfield, to teach school. Alma later taught in both the Ilion and Herkimer School Districts.

Dorothy M. Rowland, 94, lifelong resident of Greenfield Center, NY, went to eternal rest on November 29, 2020. She was employed by Skidmore College in Food Service and later at Saratoga Springs City School District as the School Lunch Director for 25 years. During this time she was named to the NYS Skilled Worker Emeritus Program by Governor Mario Cuomo.

William H. Ward passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020. William was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the Army 1952-53. He worked at both General Electric and the Guilderland Central School District, retiring from both jobs after 45 years of service.

Edward Joseph Murphy, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020. He served in the Army for two years, from 1951-1953, when he was stationed in Pusan, Korea. He taught Math at Amsterdam Junior and Senior High Schools for 34 years. He was especially proud to have developed the Accelerated Math program at the junior high school shortly after starting in 1956. He retired in 1990. 

Marilyn (Houghton) La Londe, 86 of Schenectady, passed away November 29, 2020. She worked as a retouch artist for White Studio in Schenectady and as a teacher's aide in the Guilderland School District, but her most treasured job was as mother to her four children.

Sylvia Ann (Kennedy) Heiner passed away December 1, 2020. Her career began at St. Helens School in Schenectady. She went on to teach English at Linton High School in Schenectady. Prior to retirement, her 35-year teaching career included reading recovery at Woodlawn Elementary School, also in Schenectady. 

Thomas R. Stephany, 63 of Delmar, died December 1, 2020, after a courageous battle with COVID-19 complicated by Parkinson's disease. He retired from the Bethlehem Central School district after 33 years of service. 

Leonard Porter, 91, of Rexford and former longtime resident of Ballston Lake, died at December 2, 2020. He shared his love for the sciences as a teacher, first with the Montpelier Public Schools and later as a long-time science teacher in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District. Outside of his work, Leonard served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard with the 105th Armored Infantry.

Emma B. Nelson, 89, of Westmere, passed away November 26, 2020. She was born in Albany. Emma was an elementary school teacher at the Maywood School (now closed) in the South Colonie School District. 

William A. Jerwann, Jr., 90, of Clifton Park, passed away on December 3, 2020. Upon college graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the 5th Armored Division during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged. Bill started his teaching career in 1954 at South Colonie High School. Later he accepted a position at the new Shaker High School in the North Colonie School District as a member of the original staff and taught Industrial Arts until retiring in 1986.

Marcia Miller Rosen, 84 of Slingerlands, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Marcia was born in the Bronx in 1936 and moved as a young child to East Durham. Marcia graduated from Russell Sage College and worked as a elementary teacher in the North Colonie schools. 

Michael Hall Priester, 78 of Surfside Beach, S.C. passed away November 18, 2020. Mr. Priester was employed as a business teacher at New Lebanon High School for many years. He retired down to the Surfside Beach, S.C. area where he lived out the remainder of his life.

Gary Allen DiLallo, 78, of Clifton Park passed away early Saturday, November 21, 2020. He taught social studies and computer technology for 28 years to middle and high school students in Mechanicville. He also coached football, track and swimming. Gary was also an active member of New York State United Teachers and served five years as president of the Mechanicville Teachers Association. Through the New York State School Boards Association, Gary actively lobbied to modify and improve state and federal education regulations. The organization honored Gary as its Advocate of the Year in 2011.

Shirley T. Conway, 93 of Castleton, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020. Shirley was born in Elmsford, N.Y. She retired as a physical education teacher from East Greenbush Central Schools after many years. For hobbies she taught baton twirling and enjoyed gardening, bowling, cards, and traveling to casinos.

Geraldine "Gerry" Hayford, of Albany,  went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2020. Born in Albany in 1941, Geraldine was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey Memorial High School and The College of Saint Rose. Gerry was a skilled and dedicated high school English teacher who spent most of her 30-year career at Colonie Central High School in the South Colonie School District before retiring in 1995.

Mary "Maureen" Sheridan, of Clifton Park, died on November 23, 2019. Maureen was a special education teacher at Shaker Junior High School in the North Colonie School District for over 20 years. She had a true passion for assisting children with special needs.

Shirley Tetreault, 91, of Northville passed away on November 17, 2020. Shirley taught physical education at Guilderland High School for 33 years. She loved her years of coaching girls' varsity sports and was fondly called "Big Red" because of her red lipstick and school colors.

Hillary Huffmire Palmiotto, 82, of Niskayuna, died Friday, November 20, 2020. She worked as a secretary at KAPL in Niskayuna and in later years, as an administrative assistant for the Schenectady School District at Linton High School.

Joyce W. Anderson, 70, of Rotterdam passed away Tuesday November 24, 2020. For a period of time, she lived in the states of Washington and California. When she returned, Joyce was employed as a teaching assistant for the Guilderland Central School District. 

Elizabeth Mae Van Horn, 86, of Saratoga Lake, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. She worked many years as a switchboard operator at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District where she made many cherished lifelong friends.

Georgia E. Schiermeier, 64, of Scotia, died Saturday, November 14, 2020. She was a graduate of Draper High School and earned an associate degree from SCCC. Georgia was employed as a Para Professional with the Duanesburg Central School District.

Alvin "Skip" M. Johnston, 81, of Glenville, NY, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020. He attended Penn State University before serving in the US Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant. Skip taught English at Mont Pleasant and Niskayuna High Schools in Schenectady, NY, although he spent most of his career as a locomotive engineer for Conrail and CSX.

Betty J. Tompkins, 91, died peacefully at home in Ravena on November 12, 2020. Professionally, Betty was a school bus driver for Laidlaw Transit for many years. 

Patrick J. "Pat" Longo, 82 of Clifton Park, entered into eternal life Monday, November 16, 2020. Born in Albany, he served in the New York State National Guard. Mr. Longo retired from New York State United Teachers where he was director of retirement services, having previously retired as director of the Greater Capital Region Teacher's Center and as a beloved teacher in the South Colonie Central School District. Pat served as president of the South Colonie Teacher's Association and assisted in the establishment of Labor Unions as an organizer in a number of countries. 

Barry Deixler, 81 of Loudonville, passed from this Earth on November 12, 2020. Barry was a teacher of American history and the Constitution and retired from Amsterdam High School after a long career of educating thousands of young people into the workings and marvels of our nation and its governance.

Paul E. Murray, 94, of Mechanicville passed away Friday evening, Nov. 6, 2020. Paul served in the US Army Air Corps from 1945-47, mainly stationed in Fritzlar, Germany. Paul was a general and earth science teacher at Mechanicville Middle School for almost 33 years. Most of his teaching career was spent as a middle school science teacher while also serving for a period of time as a Principal. 

Robert J. Merges, 79, of Delmar,  entered eternal life on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Bob graduated from Siena College and Texas A&M and went on to teach science for 35 years. He was very active in the North Colonie Teachers Association during his 31 years at Shaker Junior High School. 

Vivian M. Peck, age 102, of Clifton Park, passed away November 8, 2020 . She was born in Schenectady on January 20, 1918. She worked at Shenendehowa Central School for many years as Secretary to the High School Principal. 

Dr. Peter M. McManus, 88, died November 3, 2020. He served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, GA. and after his service, went on to devote his life to education. He spent 30 years with the North Colonie School District until his retirement in 1991, and continued teaching graduate level courses at several universities until 2012.

Dr. Frank C. Mayer, retired Superintendent of Schenectady City School District passed away on his 89th birthday, October 28, 2020. He entered the U.S. Army following undergraduate school and was assigned to the G-4 Top Secret repository at Seventh Army Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he spent 31 years in public education, retiring as Superintendent of Schools from Schenectady City School District. 

Ferguson, Charlotte M. (Cain), born May 3, 1924, died Friday October 30, 2020 at the age of 96. As a nun, she taught at Sacred Heart School in Watervliet, St. John’s School in Rensselaer and Vincentian Glass School and Annex and St. Joseph’s High School in Albany. As Mrs. Charlotte Ferguson, she taught for BOCES special education in Middleburg, NY, Westmere School, and Colonie.

It is with profound sadness that we make known the peaceful passing of Kiersten Trela Spain, 49, of Niskayuna, on October 29, 2020. She taught at Albany Academy for Boys and Westmere Elementary in Guilderland, where she was granted tenure.

Vincent T. Fernandez, 92, of Rotterdam, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 where he would serve his country honorably and faithfully until his discharge in 1955. He worked as a teacher for several years before serving as a guidance counselor for over 30 years before his retirement from the Mohonasen School District.

Dorothy E. Henwood, 82, formerly of Scotia, NewYork died in New Braunfels, Texas on September 26, 2020. She taught English for many years at VanCorlear Middle School in Schenectady and retired from teaching at Oneida Middle School in Schenectady.

Cardany, Gertrude "Trudy" of Plattsburg - With profound sadness we announce the passing of Trudy, aged 93, on October 30, 2020. She taught one year at Schuylerville High School, four years in the Albany Public School District and one year at Westmere Elementary in the Albany area. For many years, she enjoyed substitute teaching at the Plattsburgh Middle and High School.

Ruth A. Clarke, of Albany, entered eternal life Saturday, October 31, 2020. Born in Utica, she was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and The College of Saint Rose. She had a long and successful career as a teacher in the Albany Public School System.

Larry S. Kittell, of Albany, a retired teacher for the Albany City School District, passed away on October 22, 2020. Larry was born in Albany on March 18, 1943.

G. Joseph Buckley, of Ballston Lake, passed away at the age of 92 on October 30, 2020. He began his lifelong career in education teaching third and fourth grade at Lake Pleasant Central School in Speculator New York. Following his rewarding time at Lake Pleasant, Joe accepted a position at Pashley Elementary School in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District teaching fourth and fifth grade before assuming the role of assistant principal in 1958, then advancing to principal in 1963, retiring in 1988. 

Jeanette Varamogiannis, 75, of Loudonville, entered eternal life Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was an elementary teacher from August 1973 to June of 1984 in the South Colonie School District. She then went on to be a reading teacher from September 1984 through July 2002, then retired. 

Sandra Comer, 75 of Clifton Park, died on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was born in Winfield, Kan. on September 16, 1945. She had been a teacher most of her life and retired from Saratoga ARC in Saratoga Springs.

Dawn E. (DeCelle) LeClair of Malta died November 2, 2020. Born on November 14, 1949, she taught English at Ballston Spa High School for 33 years, retiring in 2004. She supervised student teachers pursuing their master's degrees in education in the field of English at the Sage Colleges.

Albert A. Prysmont, 84, of Galway, died October 15, 2020. Al was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an industrial art teacher for the Schenectady City School District for the majority of his teaching career.

Carol Anne Teoli, 86, of Glenville, went home to the Lord August 4, 2020. After teaching elementary school in Long Island, N.Y., she completed a master’s degree in music from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., majoring in organ. She enjoyed teaching piano lessons in her home and caring for her family as a homemaker. 

Dolores Ann Makarwich, 76, of Scotia, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Born and raised in the South end of Albany, she worked in the school systems as a teacher's aide. She later became a stay at home mom with her five children.

Emmet F. Prosser, 76, of Halfmoon, died on Friday, October 16, 2020. Emmet retired from Stillwater C.S.D. where he was superintendent after serving as that school's business administrator. Prior to that, Emmet was employed by Mechanicville City School District first as a business teacher and then as the high school principal. 

Mary Jane Dike, 90 of Rexford, died Thursday, October 22, 2020. 
Mary Jane was an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Schenectady County Community College from 1980 until her retirement in 1994. She taught an array of psychology and reading courses and chaired the Developmental Studies Program for several years.

Nancy Marie Walko, 82, of Clifton Park passed on October 8, 2020. She worked locally at Ellis Hospital, was a long-term member of the Ballston Lake Ambulance Squad, and for 16 years was the School Nurse at Charlton Heights School in the Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake School District.

Mildred (Michie) Killeen, 94, of Troy, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020. She was a school nurse-teacher at several local school districts, including Hoosick Falls, Berlin and East Greenbush.

Mary Leva Mennillo, 92, entered into eternity Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Later in years, she began working as a lunch monitor at Zoller School in Schenectady, where she greeted each student with her infectious smile. 

Shelly Katherine Carrotti Dufel, born August 24th, 1974 in Saratoga Springs, NY passed away October 14th, 2020. She was a teacher at Mayfield Central School District where she impacted the lives of many of her students.

Ellen D. Alsdorf, 83, passed away October 13, 2020. She taught 4th grade for the South Colonie School District prior to becoming a homemaker. Once her children were grown, Ellen went back to substitute teaching for Scotia Glenville School District.

On Friday, October 9, 2020, Katherine B. Hepinstall of Albany passed away at the age of 75. Kathy taught in the South Colonie School District at both Maywood and Sand Creek schools.

Virginia (Ginny) Tarallo, 92, passed away October 6th, 2020. Ginny taught physical education in Massachusetts and New York for over 30 years, retiring from the Schenectady school district. After retirement she was a realtor for several years.

Elizabeth F. (Franklin) Camardello, 37, of Ballston Spa, went home to the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2020. Elizabeth started her teaching career at Farnsworth Middle School, and then went on to work for the Albany City School District at both Harriet Gibbons High School and William S. Hackett Middle School.

Rhea Henries Boland, 94 of Troy, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020. She worked briefly for the Geneva School District before moving to Troy in 1949. Rhea was a beloved elementary and physical education teacher in the Enlarged City School District of Troy for over 30 years. She retired in 1985.

Service and burial Wednesday, September 30, 2020 - Leah I. Olendorf of Laurens, NY - Lee died in Laurens, NY. She started her 38-year career as a business teacher at Perth Central School in 1949. As a teacher, Lee maintained educational standards while creating a long-lasting bond with many students.

Matthew Terence Nash, of Glenmont, was born in Albany on May 9, 1990. He died September 27, 2020, of natural causes. At the time of his death, Matthew was a teaching assistant at Coxsackie-Athens High School, a job he truly loved. He was especially enthusiastic about coaching baseball and bowling and valued his roles as both coach and mentor.

Thomas E. Baker, 92, of Guilderland, formerly of Seneca Falls, N.Y., died Monday, September 28, 2020. He was drafted into the Army, where he spent a year in Texas as a French horn musician in the 1st Army Division Band before being sent to Okinawa, Japan. He became a music teacher in the Voorheesville Central School District in 1953, first in all grade levels and then in the elementary school, until retiring in 1983. He taught band and vocal groups and directed school musical performances.

James R. "Coach" Connolly, 76 of Selkirk, died Monday, September 28, 2020. Coach was a kind, charismatic teacher and track coach who left an indelible mark on generations of students and athletes at Cardinal McCloskey High School and Scotia-Glenville High School. He retired from Scotia as the chair of the Business Department in 2006.

Ardelle M. (Gordon) Spawn, 76 of Altamont, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020.  She worked at the State Education Department in Albany and the Guilderland Central School District Transportation Office. She was a founding member of the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad Station 2.

Janice E. Supley, 89, of Ballston Lake, passed away September, 21, 2020. Janice was a dedicated homemaker. Later she became a Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake Central School bus driver, retiring after 25 years.

John S. Furman (79) of Bath passed away September 22, 2020. John was an army veteran who served in Korea. After his army service he worked as a bus driver and custodian for 32 years in the Burnt Hills School system.

Arthur John Bogdanowicz, 70, Niskayuna, passed away September 22, 2020. He retired from USAirways working in operations. After his retirement from his work at the airport, he went on to drive a school bus for Niskayuna Schools.

Eileen Mary Hines Amodeo of Albany passed away September 20, 2020. Eileen was born in Cohoes on March 17, 1926 and  began her teaching career at School 19 (New Scotland Elementary) in Albany, where some 60 years later her son David would become the principal. 

Joyce A. (Burke) Belokopitsky 70, of Maplewood, passed into eternal life on Friday, September 25, 2020. In her early years, she worked for the Federal Government and later as a teaching assistant in Troy at School 18 and Carroll Hill. She retired from the Troy City Schools in 2009. 

Wielslaw Prelewicz, 78, of Schenectady, NY, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020. He was born in Zuromin, Poland and attended a technical school and worked as an Electrician. He later joined the Navy where he served three years in the Baltic Sea. He moved to the United States and worked as a night custodian for the Niskayuna Central School District. 

Phyllis A. Bootier, 87, of Schenectady, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Born in Whitehall, N.Y., Phyllis worked as a lab tech for G.E. in Schenectady for two years and then worked as a teacher's aide with Veeder Elementary School for several years and finished her career with the N.Y.S. D.M.V. in Albany until her retirement.

Ann D. Muehleck of Albany died Saturday, September 19, 2020. Born in Albany, she was a science teacher at Colonie Central High School in the South Colonie School District for 46 years and she served as department coordinator for several decades. Over the years, Ann taught thousands of Colonie students, often instructing three generations of learners in a family.

SARATOGA SPRINGS It is with great sadness that the family of Stuart Taylor announce his passing on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at the age of 60. Stuart was a physical education teacher and enjoyed a long career at Albany City School District. He relished his time coaching soccer, swimming and cricket.

Enrico "Rick" Yacone, 90, of Hudson, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020. After college, Rick joined the U.S. Marine Corps' Officer Candidate School, and was deployed to Korea and Japan during the Korean War, serving as a first lieutenant. Throughout his career, particularly during the 36 years as a guidance counselor and football coach at New Rochelle High School, he mentored thousands of students and coached hundreds of football players.

Aimee M. McDonald, age 47, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. In 2009, Aimee and her family moved to Charlton, NY where she worked at BH-BL Schools in food services and as a much-loved Teacher's Assistant.

During the past week, at least three in-service teachers died from the "virus" in the USA.

(CNN) At least three teachers have died from complications of Covid-19 in recent weeks, according to CNN reporting and local media reports.

Demetria Bannister, a 28-year-old elementary school teacher in Columbia, South Carolina, was diagnosed with the virus last Friday and died Monday from Covid-19 complications, a week into the start of the school year there, CNN affiliate WIS reported.
AshLee DeMarinis, a 34-year-old middle school teacher in Potosi, Missouri, died Sunday after battling complications related to Covid-19 for three weeks, CNN affiliate KMOV reported.
Thomas Slade, a teacher at Vancleave High School in Jackson County, Mississippi, passed away last week, Superintendent John Strycker said in a statement on Wednesday. CNN affiliate WLOX reported that Slade died on Sunday due to complications related to Covid-19.

James W. Cronin, 90, of Scotia, passed away September 3, 2020. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy honorably serving his country for 4 years. He  taught school in Delmar and Las Vegas, NV for several years before returning to Schenectady. James finished his long devoted career to educating children as a case worker for the Department of Social Services in Schenectady.

Arthur Eugene Walker Jr., 89, of Latham, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020. After college, Art joined the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. After returning from the war, Art was employed as a physical education teacher in the North Colonie School District and would later serve as principal of Shaker High School from 1970 until 1991. Art was not only a beloved teacher and principal at Shaker but was also a legendary football, basketball and baseball coach.

Gary Carlson, 88, of Delmar, passed away on September 4, 2020. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he became a teacher and guidance counselor, eventually settling in North Greenbush in 1963, where he worked for many years in the East Greenbush school district before retiring in 1987.


Sandra E. Fillion, 74, of Niskayuna, died on Friday, September 4, 2020. She worked in the Niskayuna School District for several years, retiring in 2008. Previously, she worked as a nurse in local doctor's offices.

Gerald J. "Jerry" Fabiano, 85, of Johnstown, passed away September 5, 2020. Jerry came to Johnstown, as one of the inaugural staff at Fulton Montgomery Community College (FMCC) and headed up the Social Science Department. He was instrumental in starting the basketball program at Fulton Montgomery Community College, where he was a renowned basketball coach for many years.

Kathleen Severson Serafino of Aurora, Colorado passed over Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Kathleen devoted the last portion of her career to higher education working as an administrative professional at the Colorado Department of Higher Education in Denver and at the Arapahoe Community College in Littleton as the Program Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Louise Facci Murray, 81, of Schenectady, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020. Louise was born in Schenectady. She worked as a lunch aide for the Schenectady School District for several years.

On Monday, September 7, 2020, Sally Goldstein of Schenectady passed away at the age of 82. She taught elementary school in Niskayuna and South Colonie schools until 1965.

Monica Bush of Altamont entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 5, 2020. She taught as a family consumer science teacher in South New Berlin, Schalmont, and Bethlehem Central School districts for 30 years, retiring in 2013.

John Paul Ward, 91, of Albany, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020. Following high school he enlisted for three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He taught secondary school for several years in Castleton and Glens Falls; and at the Lagos Anglican Grammar School in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa. In 1962, he joined the U.A. faculty in the Department of Education and subsequently accepted the position of director of the International Student Program at U.A. In addition, he held joint appointment as assistant professor in the history and Africana departments.

Adrienne J. Pagerey, 39, of Albany, died Monday, August 31, 2020. Adrienne was a behavioral specialist for the Albany City School District at Giffen Memorial School for the past three years and before that in the Morgantown, W. Va., school district.

Ronald Harold Baker, 79 of Colonie, passed away on September 4, 2020. He was a high school social studies teacher at Shaker High School where he was also a football and wrestling coach. His love and dedication to the fire service, EMS, and education made him a natural fit to leave teaching and become the EMS coordinator for the City of Troy Fire Department. When his hometown of Colonie required a change from volunteer emergency medical services, Ron became the deputy director of EMS, a job he held until his retirement.

James Edward "Jim" Mahanna, 84, of Birdsboro, PA, formerly of Clifton Park, died on August 27, 2020. After serving in the Army Jim was a respected member of the faculty at Forts Ferry Elementary School in Latham, a part of the North Colonie Central School District and taught fifth grade there for his entire teaching career.

Dollie Mary Davenport, 99, passed away August 28, 2020. Dollie was dedicated to her career as a Registered Nurse and Educator for various places such as the VA Hospital in Albany, St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady and for the Schenectady City School System. She also taught English as a second language. 

Mary K. Burke (Hurley) of Falmouth, Massachusetts formerly of Clifton Park, New York and Waltham, Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020. Early in her career she was a public health nurse serving in the neighborhoods of Boston followed by performing nursing duties at the New England Telephone Company. Later in life she was a school nurse for the Shenendehowa Central Schools in Clifton Park, NY.

Gail Elbridge Harting, 66, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.,  passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020. Gail was an elementary school teacher and taught children for 35 years in the Schenectady school system.

James Robert Denney, Jr., 78, passed away on August 21, 2020. An educator for 37 years, Jim served as a classroom teacher (Hammond, IN), District Curriculum Coordinator (Loves Park, IL), remedial reading teacher (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), elementary principal at School 12 in Troy, and finally returned to his beloved BH-BL School District as principal for 12 years at Pashley Elementary School.

Marjorie M. Reynolds 98 died Monday, August 24, 2020. She  was an educator in Buffalo NY and later, after moving to Schenectady, tutored in the former Euclid Elementary School. Marge became Assistant Director of the Girls Club, retiring in 1990. Known as "Mother Marge", she was devoted to the Club…its mission and its staff.

Margaret Brock Gaston, centenarian, of Ballston Spa, New York and Chebeague Island, Maine died August 21, 2020. She worked for Leonard Ewing, Esq. in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and later taught English for two years at Beaver Falls High School in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and for sixteen years at Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio.

Wanda Olszewski Cadieux of Port Richey, FL, formerly of Schenectady, NY, passed August 20, 2020. She was born Sept. 7, 1938. She moved to Florida in 2000 from Schenectady, retiring as a secretary from Schenectady Schools, Sears, Carl Co., and an audiologist's office.

Carol H. Hart, 80 of Waterford, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020. Carol was an elementary school teacher at Waterford Halfmoon School for 30 years and retired in 2000. Earlier in her career she was a substitute teacher in various schools in the area.

Mark Edward Banovic of Saratoga Springs  was born on May 11, 1979 and died on August 21, 2020. Mark was not only a teacher at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland for 16 years, but also a committed soccer coach, friend, colleague, mentor and leader.

Amber M. Muller, 40, of Hudson, NY, died September 18, 2019. A math teacher at Grover Cleveland High School and Greenburgh Central School District, she was the Key Club moderator and coordinator of blood drives there. Amber was a member of Suburbia Roller Derby, skating under the name Mz. Aftermath. Posted August 24, 2020.

Harold E. Buck, Jr., 81, of Rockville Centre, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019. Harold was a science teacher at Hicksville Middle School for more than 30 years. He was a member of Alerts Engine Company No. 2 of the Rockville Centre Fire Department for 54 years, and served as its captain. Posted August 24, 2020.

John Edward “Jack” Hubbard passed away December 29, 2019 in Tucson, Arizona. Born in 1933 in Binghamton, NY, Jack served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jack was a Professor at the State University of New York at Brockport where he taught Earth Sciences for more than 30 years. Posted August 24, 2020.

Ralph Charles Muckle Jr., 82, of Sayville NY/Bonita Springs FL passed away Saturday morning, November 2, 2019. Ralph worked as a school teacher at Oak Park Elementary School in the Brentwood Public School District for 32 years. In addition, Ralph administered the English as a Second Language Program at Brentwood’s Night High School for 25 years. Posted August 21, 2020.

Gloria A. Kocsis, 89, of Clifton Park, entered into eternal life Saturday, August 15, 2020. Born in Cohoes, NY, she was a graduate of Cohoes High School. Mrs. Kocsis was a homemaker and later in life was employed at Shenendehowa High School.

Patricia M. McBride, 87, formerly of Mechanicville, died Sunday, August 16, 2020. Born in Plattsburgh, NY on February 21, 1933, she worked as a school bus monitor for Shaker High School in North Colonie. She was a monitor of a special needs bus and her patience and soft touch helped many children throughout her over 10 years there. 

Sarah "Sallie" Marhafer Constantino, 69, died Friday, August 14, 2020 in Long Island, NY. Sallie was born in Schenectady. She was a graduate of the College of St. Rose and taught elementary school in Schenectady and Charleston, South Carolina. 

Carol S. DeVoe, 84, of Schenectady, passed away August 4, 2020. She was born in Schenectady on June 20, 1936, was educated locally and later went back to college to gain certification to work as a teacher's aide in the Schenectady School System until her retirement.

John Pomeroy Ruebsamen, Jr. of Fayetteville, NY passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019. He was born on October 20, 1936 in Greenport, NY. He served in the Army Signal Corps and enjoyed teaching math at the State University at New Paltz, NY. Posted August 21, 2020.

Paul Ton was born on April 30, 1926 in Buffalo, NY and died on February 9, 2020. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and served in the 866th Engineering Aviation Battalion in the Philippines and Okinawa before being honorably discharged in 1946. Dr. Ton taught History at South High School in Denver from 1952 to 1989 and at Metropolitan State University from 1991 to 2004.

Frank Michael Van Patten, 72, of Burnt Hills, died August 6, 2020. He served the U.S Army in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. Frank worked for the Burnt-Hills Ballston Lake school district as a bus driver, for over 15 years.

Victor Benson, 79, of Rotterdam, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. He was dedicated to driving school bus for the Guilderland School District for 17 years. Victor worked in the graphic arts and printing industry over 44 years.

Lloyd J. Hebert, Jr., 90, formerly of Albany, peacefully entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 6, 2020. Mr. Hebert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and received his Honorable Discharge. Lloyd retired from the State University of New York in Albany where he had been the Director of Parking Manager from 1960 to 1986.

Salvatore "Sam" Pizzo Jr. passed away Saturday, August 15th, 2020. Sam was born in Frankfort, NY and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and aided efforts in the Cuban Blockade. Once moving to the area, Sam worked for Cummins Diesel in Albany and most recently worked as a lunch monitor at Scotia-Glenville Middle School where the students fondly referred to him as "Sam the Lunch Man." 

Sandra G. Zabielski of Ballston Lake passed away at the age of 80 early Saturday, August 8, 2020. Sandra was born on January 16, 1940 in Schenectady, NY. She was a secretary in the Scotia-Glenville School System, as well a successful realtor.

Patricia Morgan Dumas, 93, of Troy, died on August 10, 2020. She was born on February 3, 1927, in Troy. She enjoyed two careers, journalism and education, working as a reporter for the Gannett News Service and as a teacher in the North Colonie School District.

Jean G. Kohrs, of Durham, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the age of 90. After graduating from Russell Sage College in 1952, she began her 30 plus year career of teaching, most of those years in the Durham Elementary School.

Mary E. "Betty" Hunt, 85 of Canajoharie, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Mrs. Hunt started her teaching career at Schenectady Central Park Junior High School. She then accepted a job offer at Harry Hoag Elementary School in Fort Plain, where she worked as a dedicated teacher for over 18 years.

George E. Hogan, 82, of Albany, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020. Born and educated in Albany, he received his master's degree from Oswego and was an industrial arts teacher in the South Colonie School District, mainly in the middle schools, for many years.

Katherine F. Millington, 96, of Wynantskill, passed away  August 1, 2020. Born in East Quogue, Long Island, she was raised in Troy and resided in Wynantskill for the last 40 years. Kate worked as a retail clerk at Denby's and Carl Co. then School 16 in Troy as a lunch aide.

Susan Jean Flanigan passed on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the young age of 62. Susan's career as a registered nurse began in Boston, nursing at Tufts New England Medical Center, and later, working at St. Peter's Hospice for many years. In addition, she worked as a home healthcare visiting nurse for 14 years, and as a school nurse in the Troy City School District.

Audrey Ellowitz, 83, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away July 31, 2020. She taught in New York City schools before becoming a middle school teacher at Taconic Hills Central School District. Audrey enjoyed teaching science and working with inquisitive students.

Corinne Marie Tariello Facchetti, 79, of Voorheesville, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020. She taught French and Spanish at Bethlehem Central and Mont Pleasant high schools. She worked side-by-side with her husband, chef Rene, at their restaurant, Chez Rene in Glenmont, for many years.

Earle Edward Flatt, 98, of Albany,  passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020. During World War II, Earle volunteered for a hazardous assignment in the Pacific Theater as a U.S. Navy "frogman" in one of the newly established Underwater Demolition Teams (the precursor to the Navy SEALS). He served as executive officer of an eighty-man team and was preparing for an eventual invasion of Japan when the war ended in August 1945. He continued his service after the war, first on a patrol craft sweeper, and later as a Naval Reservist, eventually retiring with the rank of commander. After returning from the Pacific, Earle spent his career in the service of teaching and learning, first as a high school teacher, then as an associate professor and supervisor of student teachers at SUNY Albany.

Bob Lancto, 93, of Clifton Park, passed away on June 27, 2020. He joined the US Navy, serving in the Philippines during World War II. Bob began his teaching career at a four-room schoolhouse, foregoing a minor league baseball contract to play for the NY Yankees' minor league team in Montreal. He became an elementary school principal in Plattsburgh. Bob accepted a Principal position at Bedford Hills Elementary School in Bedford Hills, NY and later at Fox Meadow Elementary School in Scarsdale, NY.

Alma Feeney, 97, of Guilderland, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020. Mrs. Feeney was an English teacher in the Averill Park School system. She was a member of the Pinehaven Country Club and worked closely with the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill. 

Edith C. Harrison, 91, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was the dorm supervisor at Eastern Illinois University and the Assistant Dean of Students at SUNY Oneonta, retiring in 1958. 

Ronald Edward Ruland of Cobleskill passed away at the age of 72 on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Following his military service in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, he taught middle school and high school English at Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School for 23 years. After his retirement from C-RCS, he taught English at SUNY Cobleskill, taught guitar at Backstreet Music, and worked at Catnap Books.

Jane Ellyn (Danahy) Nardini passed from this life Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at the age of 84. In later years, Jane worked in the office of the Forts Ferry Elementary School in Latham, for the state of New York and as an administrative assistant for the Colonie Public Employment Relations Board from where she retired.

Rhoda Ann Meyer passed away July 24, 2020 at age 87. She was born on May 1, 1933 in Lockport, NY. A lifelong New York native, Rhoda enjoyed an adventurous childhood on the family farm. Rhoda graduated from Brockport State Teacher's College in Brockport, NY in 1955, then went on to teach first grade.

Alan Henry Schoonbeck, 79, of Los Osos, CA, passed away on June 24, 2020. Alan taught art at Alden and Bode, IA. While at Bode Twin Rivers High School, "Coach Schoonie" coached nearly everything - baseball, football, track, and junior high basketball. When the family relocated to the Albany area, Alan was employed as the Art Instructor at Oak Hill School, Scotia, New York.

Judith Heffernan Elmy, 74, of Amsterdam, New York passed away Monday, July 20, 2020. Mrs. Elmy was employed by the Greater Amsterdam School District for 30 years before retiring. She continued to be active in education working for several consulting firms. She was also a member of the Amsterdam Teachers Association.

Susan Kyle Grubbs, known as Kyle to her friends, died on July 16, 2020. Born in Roanoke, VA on September 30, 1964, Susan grew up in Virginia and Saratoga County, NY. She graduated from East Carolina University and taught school in Virginia and North Carolina before returning to New York.

Elizabeth DiSalvatore, 94, of Clifton Park, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Born on March 12, 1926, Elizabeth worked as a cafeteria supervisor for the Shenendehowa Schools for over 35 years.

Jacqueline Bave, "Jacki," 72, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020. Jacki taught elementary school for 33 years at Shenendehowa Schools in Clifton Park.

Ruth Arlene (Uehlin) Fox of Saco, Maine left the trials of this Earth on June 25, 2020. Ruth worked for the Niskayuna Schools as a para-educator at Rosendale Elementary School and Iroquois Middle School; she finished her career in the Media Center at the Iroquois School.

Agnes M. Sheehan of Mechanicville died July 13, 2020 at the age of 95. Murph taught physical education at both the Stillwater and Mechanicville School Districts for many years in the 1950s. After the birth of her three children, she often did substitute teaching in the Mechanicville schools.  

Ronald F. Kingsley, 90, of Schenectady, passed away on July 11, 2020.  He was employed as School Psychologist for 5 years with the Scotia Schools and taught 2 years at Union College in their Graduate Education Program. He founded the Community Archaeology Program (CAP) with the interest and support of 
Schenectady County Community College (SCCC).

John “Jack” M. Frascatore, 68, of Schenectady NY passed away July 10, 2020. Jack devoted himself to the art of fashion. Before entering the world of fashion, he worked as an art teacher at Amsterdam High School. He then began working at “The Costumer” in Schenectady, NY for several years before opening his own business on Jay Street, Schenectady and Newport, RI called “TimeWarp”, a vintage clothing store.

Roseann Mary Greco, 77, of Rotterdam, passed on July 15th 2020. Throughout her thirty-six years as an educator she taught English, ESL, French, Russian, and Special Education, she would continue to leave an imprint on each life that she encountered until the day she went to rest.

Francis R. Hanlon, 90, of Ballston Spa, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020. In 1966, he began teaching high school English and journalism for the Greater Amsterdam School District. After retirement, Fran participated in the speaker's bureau for the Epilepsy Association and for the United Way.

Joseph "Joe" A. Loudis, 78, of Cohoes, passed away July 12, 2020. He taught business at Cohoes High School for 35 years (1965 - 2000) and coached varsity basketball and baseball in six different decades in various local high schools.

Mary Anne Chylinski, age 60, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020.  Mary Anne was a dedicated special education teacher at Goff Middle School in East Greenbush, where she touched the lives of so many with her compassion.

Gail Dietrich, 63, of Niskayuna, died recently. Gail taught at Hillside school in Niskayuna, retiring in 2014. Her passing was reported in The Daily Gazette of Schenectady on Saturday, July 11, 2020.

Janet E. Haegi, 77, of Fort Hunter, New York, passed July 6, 2020. She proudly worked at Memorial Hospital in Amsterdam with their Nutrition Services Department, as an Aide in the Fonda-Fultonville Middle School, and in the Bakery at Hannaford.

Deborah Schwabach of Gilbertsville died Thursday, July 9, 2020.  She was born June 23, 1942 and grew up in Scotia, New York. She taught writing at SUNY- Oneonta, Syracuse University, SUNY- Cortland, the University of Delaware, and at the Marist College program at Oneonta Job Corps. A lifelong proponent of civil rights, she was honored as the NAACPs Person of the Year for her campaign for Job Corps students to be able to get Oneonta library cards. 

Karen A. Wengert Boyea of Slingerlands, died Monday, May 25, 2020. Karen taught mathematics at Voorheesville High School for 33 years She served as mathematics department chairperson for 20 years.

Suzanne Fallo of Scotia passed away on July 2, 2020. She was born March 30, 1939 in Scotia, NY. After a period of teaching in Massachusetts, she returned for a long career as a 2nd grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Scotia.

William J. Monty died on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 in Schenectady. A former member of the Army National Guard, Bill worked as printer for the former Williams Press, was also a truck driver for Burrell Express for more than 25 years and retired from Mohonasen High School as a bus driver after 33 years of service to the school district. 

Marie A. Felthousen, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Schenectady, just shy of her 91st Birthday. At the completion of her education, Marie began her career at Gloversville High School as a teacher of eleventh grade English. After several years there, she moved to Schenectady where she continued teaching 11th grade English at Niskayuna High School.

On June 30, 2020, Saratoga Springs lost city native Remigia Ann Foy, 91. The fulfillment of her yearning for knowledge led her to become one of Mechanicville's most adored teachers, from 1957 to her retirement in 1985, and also serving as vice principal at Mechanicville High School. 

Amelia Theresa Dejnozka, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away June 25, 2020. Amelia worked for 21 years for the Saratoga Springs school system. After making the decision to retire from her position in 1980, she went on to provide many years of service to St. Clement's Catholic Church, from which she also retired.

Harriette Lynne Sacklow, 76 of Niskayuna, died on Sunday, June 28, 2020. In 1967 she became a high school math teacher in the Guilderland Public School District. When her husband decided to open up his own business, she joined him at Wolkcas Communications Group.

Merlin V. Sagendorf, 92, of Schoharie, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020. After retiring from dairy farming he did crop harvesting for area farmers and drove school bus for Schoharie School.

Barbara R. Rogers, 80, of Glenville, passed away June 29, 2020. Barbara worked for Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School District as a Cafeteria Supervisor retiring after many faithful years.

Geoffrey Alan Szabo, 73, of Esperance, NY, passed on Friday, June 26, 2020. Jeff was employed as a school bus driver for Duanesburg Central School District and as a mechanic with various garages. 

Mary C. Ryan, 88 of Delmar, died Saturday, June 20, 2020. Mary was a teacher and librarian in various area schools at the elementary, secondary and collegiate levels.

Gladys Kniskern O'Brien, 90, of Guilderland, passed away on June 16, 2020. Gladys was a Spanish and Latin teacher at Guilderland High School and Altamont High School. After retirement she substituted at many area high schools. 

Joan M. Sharpe, 85, formerly of Glenville, New York passed away June 15, 2020 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Over the years she worked as a Registered Nurse at Tompkins County Hospital in Ithaca, Sloan Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Ellis Hospital in Schenectady and  as the school nurse for Schalmont High School in Rotterdam.

Phyllis Irene Stroup Bielawski of Ballston Spa passed away on June 10, 2020. She was born January 25, 1928 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She taught 1 year in Fort Wayne, then Niskayuna, and Burnt Hills, NY. She retired from Burnt Hills in 1983.

Ann Ochenkoski, 92, died June 7, 2020 in Schenectady, NY. Known as Mrs. O to the school kids at McAllister School in Sherrill for 18 years, she also taught religious education and was a communicant and Altar Rosary Society member at St. Helena's Church in Sherrill.

Leo Nicolai, 91, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Indian Lake, died on June 7, 2020. Leo served during the Korean War as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. After the war, he continued his service in the Air Force reserve until 1961. Leo taught business education for over 30 years at Indian Lake High School. 

Richard B. "Dick" Gribben Sr., 82, of Ballston Lake,  died on June 11, 2020. He was an industrial arts teacher and part-time administrator at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District for many years. His career started there in 1961 at the Junior High School and from 1974 to 1993 he was a fixture at the High School.

Ann Carol Forman Mataraso, 88, of Guilderland and Manchester Village, Vt., passed away June 10, 2020. Her first teaching job in 1954 was in one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in Boytonville, N.Y. (Tamarack School District). Ann later settled in Guilderland, where she taught school at Westmere and Guilderland Elementary in the Guilderland School District for a number of years.

Harry Stanley Weiner of Scotia passed away on Thursday evening, June 11, 2020 at 68 years of age. A teacher for almost 40 years at Shenendehowa High School, Harry taught English to thousands of students during his career. His teaching methods and song parodies became as legendary as his name.

Frank J. Schmitt died Saturday, June 20, 2020. Frank served in the Navy as an airman in Pensacola during the Korean War. Frank worked at IBM then taught industrial arts at Shaker High School for 26 years, retiring in 1988. There he won CDIAA Teacher of the Year and was very proud of starting the soccer program at North Colonie Schools.

Dr. John Brindisi, 95, passed away on June 6, 2020, in Delray Beach, Fla., on the 76th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy invasion. After  high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, trained as a radio operator with Patton's Third Army and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day plus 1. In 1984, he retired from the Northport High School where he served as a high school guidance counselor. As a NYSUT member, Dr. Brindisi founded the Retired Teacher of Northport Association. 

Marcia L. Nickerson, 76, of Troy, died on Sunday, June 7, 2020. She taught instrumental music at Turnpike Elementary School in Troy for many years, where she introduced countless young people to the joys of playing an instrument and shared her love of music with many generations of students. 

Donald "Donny" Ecker, 64, of Glenville, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport and had a 30-year career as a physical education teacher at the Tryon School for Boys. Following his retirement, he was a monitor for the Scotia-Glenville School District and operated a landscaping business.

Emilia "Honey" Kelly, 88, of Tarrytown, passed away May 30, 2020. Honey was active in her community. She helped to organize the first union for teacher aides in the Tarrytown School District, where she worked for many years as an aide and librarian, not retiring until she was 77.

Alice I. Springer, 78, of Galway, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020. Alice was a bus driver for Galway Central School for 20 years. She previously worked at Chuck's Store in Galway and Rickett's in Ballston Spa. She was a volunteer and coach for the Special Olympics.

Mildred Grace Klevesahl Austin of Glenville, NY passed May 22, 2020. She was born September 25, 1926 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Mildred taught elementary school at Ravena, Ellington, Conn., Glen Rock, NJ, and Schenectady, ending her career at Sacandaga Elementary School in 1987. 

Dr. Robert "Bob" McMorris of Oneonta passed away on May 26, 2020, at the age of 85. He grew up in Cobleskill and South Glens Falls. He spent almost 50 years teaching in the Educational Psychology Department at SUNY Albany.

Herbert L. Vrooman, Jr., 73, of Sharon Springs, passed away on May 26, 2020. While working at Lynk's Service Station, he worked for many years as a school bus driver for Sharon Springs Central School. 

Elisa Cestaro Roman of Newburgh, N.Y. passed away May 28, 2020. She first became an English teacher at West Canada Valley School District in Herkimer County. Elisa moved to Middletown, N.Y. in 1982 and taught at the Pine Bush District for over 17 years. She went on to teach another 20 years at Cornwall Central School District, retiring in 2018.

June Terry Culkin, 87, of Colonie, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020. She was employed as a secretary for the South Colonie School District for over 25 years before retiring in 1984 and moving to Florida.

Lillian Stern, 100, of Schenectady and Deerfield Beach, FL, died on April 24, 2020. It was in the BH-BL Central School District that Lillian began her second career, teaching elementary school for 16 years. Lillian loved teaching and "enjoyed making learning fun," right up to her retirement in 1982.

Patricia A. (Collins) Goodale, 78, of Saratoga Springs, and formerly of Niskayuna, died on May 21, 2020. She taught high school science in the Buffalo area. After moving to Niskayuna in 1970, Pat was involved in many school and education-related activities and taught elementary art in the Schenectady schools.

Eugene Anthony Stanczyk, a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs, New York, died on May 21, 2020. He taught high school English, Speech, and Driver's Education for 31 years at Waterford-Halfmoon High School. He served several years as his school district teacher's union president, during several contentious but ultimately successful contract negotiations.

Margaret Rose "Margo" Close, 84 of Halfmoon, died on Thursday, May 14, 2020. She was born on April 28, 1936. Margo was a third grade teacher, having taught at Moreau Elementary in the South Glens Falls School District for 30 years.

Henstenberg, Joseph E. - Joe,  81, of Gansevoort, passed into rest with the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. He was born on March 13, 1939. Joe served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Saratoga BOCES in 2000. 

Almer Byron Baker Jr., 96, of Latham died on Sunday, May 10, 2020. Born, raised, and educated in the Glens Falls area, he taught mathematics in Port Jervis for five years and then at Brittonkill Central Schools for twenty-three years, where he also served as head of the math department and from which he retired in 1981,

Joseph E. Amorosi, 93, of Schenectady, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020. After High School, Joseph would join the United States Army where he would serve his country honorably and faithfully in Germany for 4 years. He then worked as a transportation supervisor for the Schalmont School District where he would retire after 34 years of service. 

Angela K. Theodore, 81, died Saturday, May 9, 2020. She was born on May 25, 1938, in Syracuse. She taught at various public schools in the Syracuse area including the Indian Reservation at Nedrow. She taught English at Cohoes and other high schools in the area. She directed various theater productions in Cohoes, Ballston Spa, and Milton.

Howard “Duke” C. Miller, Jr., of Plattsburgh passed away on September 17, 2019. He was born in Latham, NY on March 18, 1932. After graduation he had a long and distinguished career teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh for forty years where he was involved in many committees throughout his career.

Eric M. Van Deusen was born on June 26, 1943 and passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Eric was a resident of Hudson, New York at the time of passing. He was a librarian at Greene Community College for many years.

Martine Cadet, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla, born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 25, 1970, died August 21st, 2019. Following a move to Rockland County, NY, Martine, served as the District Wide Attendance Social Worker for the East Ramapo School District for the last 20 years.

Sylvia M. Allen, 81 of Colonie, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020. She was born in Troy and had worked at Forest Park Elementary School in South Colonie. 

Lyn VanAlstyne of Old Chatham died May 9, 2020. She was born in Tenafly, N.J. on May 9, 1953. After living in California, she returned to Columbia County where she taught P.E. for 38 years at Ichabod Crane. She coached volleyball and was proud to have introduced Yoga to many students over the years.

Freda A. Gardner, 91, of Troy died May 9, 2020. She taught for four years in Red Hook and Lansingburgh and then went to Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Va. She then became the director of Christian education at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, N.J. In 1961, she joined the faculty of Princeton Theological Seminary from which she retired.

Gilbert H. Dietzel, 83, of Colonie, passed away May 9, 2020. Born in Albany, Gilbert joined the Army, where he was a specialist fourth class in the First Infantry Division, proudly serving from 1960-1962. Gilbert worked as a butcher at Tobin's First Prize Packing Co. before going on to North Colonie Central School District as a custodian until he retired. 

Arlene D. Parisi, 83 of Rotterdam, passed on Mother's Day, May 10, 2020. After spending time at home raising her daughters, Arlene went back to work in 1970 at Schalmont Central School District. She retired as a guidance secretary in 1992 with 23 years of service.

Anita Teresa Riccio, 78, of Niskayuna, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Anita enjoyed a long career with BOCES as a special education teacher, retiring in 1999. She was on the board of the Capital District USA Dance and was an usher for over 25 years for Proctors Theater and SPAC.

We mourn the passing of Joanne Jess Perry, lost too soon on Friday May 8, 2020. Joanne was born in Rotterdam, NY on March 29, 1958. Over 20 years she taught mathematics, predominantly at Guilderland Central Schools.

Robert "Bob" Zentz, 81, of Burnt Hills, died on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Bob shared his knowledge as a high school science teacher at Schalmont Central Schools, where he taught for 34 years until his retirement. He also taught as an adjunct professor at The College of Saint Rose. 

Robert E. Rice Sr., 83, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020. He was a longtime resident of Rotterdam, NY and moved to his family farm in Glenville in 2002. Before retiring, he was also employed for the Scotia Glenville School District. 

Lois A. (Getty) Flacke, 87, of Westbrook, CT, passed away April 13, 2020 of the COVID-19 virus. She had an extensive teaching career at Arongen Elementary School, Shenendehowa Central School District in Clifton Park, NY where she was dedicated to her students in Kindergarten, remedial reading and English as a second language. Lois was also very active in the teachers' union, negotiating wage and benefit contracts on behalf of union members. She was especially proud of her role in negotiating a "sick bank" that allowed teachers to receive benefits while they fought chronic illnesses.

Marjorie M. Becker, 90, of Clifton Park, entered into eternal life on Friday, May 1, 2020. She was born in Troy, NY on Sept. 6, 1929 and had been a teacher's aide for the Shenendehowa Central School District for over twenty-one years.

Ronald Peter Jones (51) died Monday, April 27, 2020. He had recently finished his workday as a teacher for Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS), from which he himself had graduated in 1986. In 1996, he returned to his home town of Hoosick Falls to teach physical education and take the position of head football coach. He also coached at Siena College in 2000. He was voted Coach of the Year in 2012 by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Frances Fish Steadwell, of Scotia, passed away April 22, 2020 at the age of 99. Frances moved to Scotia NY and she began her teaching career at Lincoln Elementary School, where she taught Kindergarten and First Grade for over 30 years. 

Diane R. Fisher of Rotterdam passed away on Monday, April 20,2020. Diane was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 8, 1942 and was a graduate of Ravena Coeymans Selkirk School and St. Lawrence University. Diane taught school at Potsdam Junior High School and was a substitute teacher at Schalmont Central School.

Murry Royce O’Neil, 90, of South Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020. Murry was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran.In 1951, Murry started his career as the physical education teacher at South Glens Falls High School. And so, began his coaching career, coaching football and basketball at South High for four years. In 1955, Murry took his P.E. teaching career to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, also starting the football, wrestling and track & field programs. He guided the Spartan Gridders until 1985. Murry continued his passion for coaching football at various schools until 2010, retiring after more than 60 years of coaching.
Vincent Lewis Chadwick, 81, of Johnstown, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020. He started his teaching career at Milford Central School and later began his tenure at the Greater Amsterdam School District where he taught History for many decades until his retirement in 1995. He was the President of the Montgomery County Teachers Federal Credit Union, a member of the New York State United Teachers and a member of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association.

Anne Jaster, 82, of Rotterdam, died Thursday, April 16, 2020. Anne was born in Bronxville, in 1937, and was raised in Scarsdale. Anne moved to the San Francisco Bay area and taught high school art. In 1972, she moved to Rotterdam and became an art teacher at Mariaville School in the Schalmont School District..

On April 6, 2020 Richard F. Every, 82, of Springfield, Missouri and formerly of Schenectady, New York entered into his eternal life journey. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and then worked for the Union Star newspaper. He then worked for the Mohonasen Central School District until his retirement. 

Joseph "Joe" F. Snyder of Latham passed away on April 20, 2020, at the age of 71. He worked for many years as a distribution manager for Goodyear Tire and later became a popular bus driver for the North Colonie School District.

Dorothy Jeanne Scoons (Adams), of Delmar, born October 19, 1919, passed away April 16, 2020. She was a homemaker and mother and later, a favorite "lunch lady" in the Bethlehem school system for 21 years, retiring in 1986. 

Nathan S. Race, 92, of Albany, died Saturday, April 18, 2020. Mr. Race was a teacher of Latin and English for 26 years at Greenville Central School, Greenville, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the New York State United Teachers and a charter member of the Classical Association of the Empire State. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War.

John F. Kienzle, 75, of Nassau, passed away April 18, 2020. He taught Global Studies and History at Maple Hill High School in Castleton, NY for 36 years and was an adjunct professor at several colleges. John was selected as Schodack Teacher of the Year in 1996-97 and was awarded the Capital District Council for Social Studies Neiderberger Award for 1999.

James E. Hughston, 84, of Schenectady, died Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Jim worked as a music teacher in Illinois for 6 years. Subsequently, he was a music teacher in Johnstown, NY with the Greater Johnstown School District until retirement. He was the organist for the Amsterdam United Methodist Church for 42 years and was a member of the Guild of Organists. 

Marguerite Isaac Botton of Albany passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, April 10, 2020, in Denver, Colo. She became a fixture at Colonie Central High School where she became a permanent substitute and tutor. Her passion and skill earned her the respect of admin, faculty and students. 

Shirley Glenna Dechene, 92, of Danbury, Conn., died on April 13, 2020. She taught first grade at Westmere Elementary in the Guilderland Central School District for most of her 35 years of teaching.

Dorothy Irene Kraft Stall, 86, of New Lebanon, died Wednesday, April 15, 2020. She was born and raised in Chatham. She retired from the New Lebanon Central School District after 20 years as a custodian.

Maryann Lawrence Barrett, 70, of Little Falls, passed away in the afternoon hours of April 7, 2020. She taught 3rd grade at Barringer Road Elementary School, Ilion, for 34 years until her retirement. Following retirement, she volunteered at the Food Pantry.

Margery Helen Steiger Anderson, 93, of Herkimer, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2020. Margery was born on May 14, 1926 in Hollis, Queens, NY. For thirty-five years she worked as an Art Teacher for Ilion Central School, retiring in 1983.

James F. McGuire,78, of Ballston Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020. He worked for GE Gas Turbine and Research & Development for over 30 years in Schenectady, NY until his retirement in 1997. Most recently he worked as a bus driver for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School district. 

Sheila Countermine-McGee of Princetown passed away March 19th, 2020. She grew up on the family farm and was the oldest of three siblings. She drove school bus for 28 years with Schalmont Schools.

Milton L. Boyarsky of Schenectady, 87, passed away March 26th, 2020. He was drafted into the US Army upon college graduation and stationed in Denver, Colorado. He was employed by the Schenectady School District as a school guidance counselor for Central Park Junior High and Linton High School while during the summer break he would teach Driver's Education.

Lois Joan Cruden Yunker, 91, passed on to eternal life on April 1, 2020. After college graduation, Lois taught math and science full time at area schools, including Scotia, Rensselaer and Albany school districts. She later was a full time teacher at Mohonasen Junior High School.

Dorothy J. Stengel, 94, of Albany, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. She was a high school art teacher for the South Colonie School District for over 20 years, before retiring. 

Linda M. Hurley, 79, of Castleton-on-Hudson, passed away on March 31, 2020. Linda worked for seven years for the Bethlehem Central School District. She then worked for the Albany County Civil Service, retiring in 2000.

Myron E. Hermance Jr., of Schenectady, passed away January 28, 2020. He was born in Hudson on May 7, 1928. Myron began using his professional degrees, teaching vocal music, band, orchestra, choirs and ensembles in all grades and levels in Fremont, Mich., Holton, Mich., Schenectady, and Niskayuna, retiring in 1987. 

Sherry (Greene) Shapiro, age 77, died  in Albany, NY on Monday, March 30, 2020. After graduating from Hunter College in 1963, Sherry worked as a high school teacher in the Brooklyn school system before moving to the Albany area to marry and start her family. 

Jeanne B. Fletcher, 86, of Clifton Park, died Sunday, March 22, 2020.  She taught first grade for over 40 years in the Port Jefferson and South Colonie Central School Districts, and was a substitute speech teacher for many years at Shenendehowa Central Schools. Jeanne was a member of the South Colonie Teachers Association and Retiree Council 10 of the New York State United Teachers.

Beatrice "Bea" Pinkham Ruback, 96, of Amsterdam, NY, formerly of Pattersonville, NY, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020. Bea began her career teaching visually-impaired students at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA from 1945 to 1954, then relocated to teach physical education at the former Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School in Amsterdam, NY from 1954-58.

Richard Hugh O'Rourke, 90, of Niskayuna, passed away on March 20, 2020. He served the Detroit Public Schools as an English teacher, guidance counselor, and ultimately as Assistant Regional Superintendent. He left the Detroit Public Schools in 1969 to become the superintendent of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Schools in Burnt Hills, NY. He retired in June 1994 after serving 25 years.

Mary Anna Billow Woodell of Loudonville completed her life journey on March 17, 2020. She served many years as the secretary to the Registrar at SUNY Albany.

Virginia E. Mann, 90, of East Berne, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020. Fresh out of college as an R.N., she worked at Albany Medical Center in the O.R. In 1972, she accepted a position at Berne-Knox-Westerlo CSD as the school nurse.

Marian S. Davis, 91, of Slingerlands, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. In her professional career, Marian worked as the registrar at Bethlehem Central High School for many years prior to retirement.

Marian Goldberger Preiss, 91, of Clifton Park NY, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020. She was a teacher at Shaker Jr High school and worked for the state of NY in the Audit and Control department.

Martha M. (Kallinisch) Szuminskyj, 81, of Newington, CT and Scotia, NY, died on March 13, 2020. She was a dedicated Home Economics teacher at Elmont, NY '59-'62, Newcomb, NY Central Schools,'62-'63, Oneida J.H.S. and Mont Pleasant H.S. in Schenectady, NY '63-'95.

Florence B. Poprawski, 94, of Scotia, died on Wednesday March 18, 2020. She was born October 8, 1925 in Hudson Falls, NY and worked as a secretary in the Schenectady City School District until her retirement in 1983.

Pamala D. (nee White) Spawn, 54, of Altamont, passed Monday, March 16, 2020. She worked various jobs including State Bank of Albany, Stewarts's, Dr. Becker and most recently as a bus driver for Guilderland Central School District.

Gilbert Dannenberg, 85, of Queensbury, died March 14, 2020. During his 33 year teaching career, he planned and led student tours to Europe, directed a gifted student mathematics program, organized and operated an independent summer school, as well as directed a Counselor Training Program at Camp Chingachgook.

Mary Jane Manning, 78, of Cohoes, entered into eternal life on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Born in Troy, Mary Jane graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from The College of Saint Rose, and went on to teach in the Troy City School District. 

Roger C. Casey, 79, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., passed away on March 10, 2020. Roger was raised in Delmar and resided in Voorheesville, Stillwater, and most recently in Port St. Lucie. Roger taught mathematics at Schalmont High School in Rotterdam for more than 25 years.

Patricia Koonz Fallek, 84, of Vooheesville, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020. Pat retired from Albany City Schools after 35 years as an elementary school teacher.

Karen Margiotta, 73, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2020. Karen taught elementary school in the Mohonasen School district for more than 35 years. After retiring Karen went on to serve as a volunteer at Ellis Hospital. 

Christine Brandon Luckett, 63, of Albany, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020. Chris spent decades teaching special education and religious education in the Syracuse and Albany areas. 

Robert (Bob) H. Gumaer, 83, of Jordan, died Thursday, March 5, 2020. Bob joined the Army and ultimately attended the SUNY College at Brockport, where he played basketball. Bob taught in the Liverpool School District, worked in a variety of positions for several corporations, and ran his own business.

Virginia A. (Ginny) Hinds, 86, of Glenville, passed on February 29, 2020. Born in Troy, NY on March 3, 1933, she was a 1950 graduate of Catholic Central High school. Ginny worked as a librarian at the Albany State University library.

Jaddua M. Bennett, 89, of Scotia, passed away March 1, 2020. Jaddua served with the US Air Force in Okinawa during the Korean War. He went on to a career as a science teacher at Oneida Middle School in Schenectady, starting in 1958 until he retired in 1994.

Florence "Jean" Lee, 87, of Halfmoon, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020. Jean worked as a principal's secretary at Shenendehowa for 20 years after previously working at the Westvaco pulp and paper mill in Mechanicville. 

Merry MacArthur Sparano, née Odom, 77, born on March 20, 1942, passed away March 4, 2020. A graduate of Ursuline College in Louisville, KY, Merry taught in the Mohonasen School District before becoming a stay-at-home parent. 

Barbara Jean Watson Karhan of Greenwich passed away on the morning of March 5, 2020. Barb began her teaching career working in school districts in State College and Upper Merion Pennsylvania, but finally settled in her career home of 20 years (1986-2006), as a Special Education teacher, in the Cambridge Central School district. 

Paulette Danforth, 75, of Cobleskill, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020. Paulette was a lifelong resident of Cobleskill, graduating from Cobleskill High School in 1962. She worked for Ryder Elementary School in the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District as a remedial reading aide.

Donald "Skip" McPhee, 79, of the Town of Florida, NY, passed away February 22, 2020. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 and upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he worked at GLF. After he sold his cow herd in 1998, he started working for BOCES where he taught commercial driver training. 

Robert F. Trejderowski, 92, of Johnstown, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Trejderowski was a Steamfitter and was employed for many years by the Greater Amsterdam School District as Head Custodian until his retirement.

Albert "Bert" VanDeusen, of Galway, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020. He was 72. Born in Amsterdam on June 17, 1947, he was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1968 following his service during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star in connection with his service. He most recently worked as a bus driver for Galway Central Schools, retiring in June of 2018.

Ruth M. Holliday, 91, passed away in Bradenton, Fla. on January 31, 2020. An avid reader, Ruth was the Shaker Middle School (in the North Colonie  Central School District) librarian for 20 years after acquiring her M.S. in library sciences. 

Nancy Nitzberg, 93, of Albany, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Born in the Bronx, Nancy had been employed for many years as a reading teacher in the Albany Public School System. 

Susan Murray Grimm, 77, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and formerly of Troy, died Thursday, February 13, 2020. Sue was a second grade teacher for 38 years at the Wynantskill Central School District, retiring in 1998. She was a member of New York State Retired Teachers.

William (Bill) Walker passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020, at the age of 88. Bill served in the US Army for two years stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland. Bill began his teaching career and coached basketball at Mayfield, NY. In 1961, he moved to Burnt Hills and taught Math at Niskayuna High School for 32 years. 

Vito Ottati, 89, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020. He was employed by the Greater Amsterdam School District for 33 years, where he was an Industrial Arts Teacher and subsequently became Administrator for the school district. Vito was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran, serving from 1948 to 1952.

William "Bill" Higgins of Gansevoort died Monday, February 17, 2020 at the age of 83. Higgins was the principal at Fonda-Fultonville from 1971-78 and its superintendent of schools from 1979-93. Later, he served as the superintendent or athletic director on an interim basis at several other Section II districts, including Galway, Saratoga Springs and Queensbury, among others.

Rocco (Jock) (Rocky) Gerald Verrigni passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020. He was born on March 3, 1951 in Saratoga Springs. By the time he retired from Schenectady County Community College he would serve 36 years at the college in hospitality area education, rise from instructor to full professor, receive the SCCC Excellence in Teaching Award and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003 and 2004. 

Howard Ian Cohn died Monday, February 17, 2020. He was born on November 10, 1947 in Albany, NY and grew up in Rotterdam, NY. He taught Special Education at Sharon Springs Central School. 

Douglas R. Williams, 90, of Latham, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020. He was a hall principal at Shaker High School for 25 years, where he made a difference in shaping many students lives.

Sandra J. Pasquariello, 80, of Averill Park, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020. Her final job was working as a bus attendant for the Averill Park School District from 2002 - 2008 when she retired.

Lawrence G. Mason, 88, of Crown Point, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020. He was a mechanic for many years until becoming a groundsman at Shenendehowa Central School in Clifton Park, NY. Larry retired in 1993.

Robert F. Zimmerman, 94, of Nassau, passed away February 10, 2020. Robert volunteered to enter the service and served honorably with the United States Navy during World War II as a petty officer third class, coxswain. Robert was a teacher employed by North Syracuse and Jamesville Dewitt prior to becoming the principal in Fabius, N.Y.

Russell James Vitallo, 74, of Lowell, Mass., died Sunday, February 2, 2020. Rusty went on to teach in the Lowell Public School system for over 30 years where students referred to him affectionately as "Mr. V". 

Gloria Aurora Colucciello McDonald, 87, of Scottsdale, AZ, born 8/23/32, died 2/2/20. Her first teaching assignment was at Draper Elementary  in Rotterdam. Until August 2018, Gloria lived 57 years in the Lynchburg, VA area where she taught for more than 40 years. 

Jeffrey Allen Herchenroder, born June 13, 1960, from Cambridge, N.Y., died February 7, 2020.  Jeff was a longtime string instrument/orchestra teacher in Guilderland. Prior to Guilderland he taught in Niskayuna. Jeff was also a bassist for the Albany Symphony; he had been a member of the orchestra for over 33 years. 

Frances L. Seaman, 77, of Niskayuna, died Friday, February 7, 2020. She taught as an elementary teacher for the City of Schenectady Public Schools for many years before retiring in 2001. She enjoyed listening to her favorite music, especially Barry Manilow and attending many of his concerts.

Emily K. Lamoreaux, 101, of Niskayuna, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020. From 1939 to 1942, she worked at GE as a secretary. In addition to being a homemaker, from 1952 to 1972, she was employed as a substitute teacher and home tutor for the Niskayuna School District.

John DeLong, 60, of Scotia, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020. After high school John joined the US Army and later the Reserves. John worked as head custodian at Lincoln Elementary School in Scotia. John later became a nurse and worked at Ellis Hospital in the ICU and emergency room as a critical care nurse and later in the emergency room at the St. Clare's campus of Ellis Hospital - both in Schenectady. 

MaryLouise Mudrey-Sisto "MaryLou", 92, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020. She was a Teacher's Aide at Jefferson School in the Schalmont School District in Rotterdam.

Anthony L. Davey Jr., 92 of Latham, died Saturday, February 8, 2020. He served during World War II in the Navy from 1945 to 1946. He worked as a teacher and vice principal at Colonie Central High School for 29 years before retiring. 

Marion R. Rhodes, 95, of Niskayuna passed away January 25, 2020 in Plano, Texas. She taught Music and English for several years in the Scarsdale and East Chester School Districts. Marion was the 1998 recipient of the prestigious Schenectady Symphony Orchestra Association's Encore Award for her dedication to the Symphony and local community.

Francis (Zip) O'Connor died January 31, 2020. He was a teacher for 28 years and served as chairman of the social studies department at Draper High School in Rotterdam, retiring in 1986. Frank served in the US Army in the post WW II occupation, stationed in Germany. He also served as a Councilman and Deputy Supervisor in the Town of Rotterdam.

John J. Hynes, 68, of Latham, died Thursday, January 30, 2020. Born in Albany, he enjoyed diverse careers including electrician, AT&T, librarian and most recently a faculty member of Colonie Central High School. 

Santo "Sam" LoGiudice, of Wappingers Falls, died Saturday, January 25, 2020. Born in Albany, he was a middle school teacher in the Wappingers Falls school district for many years.

Ellen T. Faucher, 71, of Albany, passed away on January 28, 2020. For 22 years after college Ellen was the vocal and band director at Tupper Lake public schools, the director of music for the Catholic church in Saranac Lake and taught private piano lessons. She was also an instructor at the Adirondack Community College.

Miriam "Mimi" Koblenz Scott, 80, of Darien, Conn., passed away on February 2, 2020. Mimi worked as an English teacher at Albany Public School's Hackett Junior High School in downtown Albany and later had a private psychology practice in Latham. Most of all Mimi was a born performer and pursued this passion throughout her life.

Frances Scattareggia, 87, of Watervliet, entered into eternal life on Saturday, February 1, 2020. She was born in Troy. Fran retired in 1992 from the Troy School District after many years of service. 

Richard L. Egelston, 83, of Westmere, passed away on January 31, 2020. He taught at Berlin Central School, Northern Michigan University, and SUNY Geneseo. Dick retired from the N.Y.S. Department of Education after 20 years of service.

Stephen S. Soltys, 82, of Castleton, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a factory worker for Nashua Corp for over 39 years before retiring. Currently, he worked for Schodack Central Schools as their maintenance man for over 10 years. 

Robert T. Kove, 85, of Sandy Spring, MD, died on January 27, 2020. He worked as a math teacher at Drury High School in North Adams, MA for over 30 years.

Patrick V. Renzi, 84, of Rotterdam, passed away January 21, 2020. Patrick was a full-time Instrumental Teacher at South Colonie High School for thirty years. In 1969 he played with the Boston Pops at the World's Fair in Montreal, Canada. 

James Edward Foley, 85, of Guilderland, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020. He began his career as an educator teaching sixth grade at Westmere Elementary School in Guilderland. and finally assistant superintendent of Guilderland Schools until his retirement. 

Christine D'Alessandro, 67, of Ballston-Spa, passed away January 20, 2020. She worked as a Culinary Arts Teacher at the Capital Region BOCES from which she retired.

Doreen C. Kana, of Troy and formerly of Rexford,  passed away January 26, 2020. She took a part time position as a teacher's aide at the Glenhaven Elementary school in the Burnt Hills School District and later was hired as secretary to Dr. Glen Soellner and the Burnt Hills Music Department. 

Ernest C. "Ernie" Duval, 88, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Ernest spent several years in Germany as a first lieutenant, escorting Army freight trains through the Berlin corridor, which included the Russian Checkpoint into West Germany. He taught commercial subjects for twenty seven years at Hartford Central School.

Margaret M. Morgan, 98, of Slingerlands, entered eternal life on Monday, January 20, 2020. She taught for over 30 years at Colonie Central High School, and then at Mercy High School and Maria College. 

Ruth V. Shiebler, 92, of Malta, died on Sunday, January 19, 2020. Ruth was first employed by the City of Binghamton Junior High music department. In 1951, Ruth was appointed to the staff of Mechanicville School District in charge of chorus and vocal music. In 1954 she became the head of the M.H.S. band and instrumental music program.
Penelope C. O'Brien Gendron, 43, of Coeymans, passed away January 22, 2020. Penny worked for the Ravena Coeymans Selkirk Middle School as a seventh and eighth grade science teacher from 2001 to 2011.

Donald S. Reynolds, 86, of Albany, passed away on January 10, 2020. He was a teacher at Pittsfield High School in Massachusetts, and Amsterdam and Colonie school systems. He retired in 1989. Donald served in the U.S. Army for two years, and was honorably discharged in November 1958. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for several years.

Clara Skavina Hemmett, 94, of Voorheesville, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020. She began her teaching career as a science teacher at the Berne-Knox Westerlo School District. She transferred to the Voorheesville Central School District in 1956 where she taught many different science subjects before becoming the Junior High guidance counselor, retiring in 1980.

Mary Lou "Mim" Remillard, 80, of Rotterdam Junction, NY died Monday, January 13, 2020. For many years she worked for the Schalmont School District in the cafeteria. 

Ole E. Christensen Jr., 83, of Albany, died on Sunday, January 13, 2020. He was an instrumental music teacher for the Berlin Central Schools. 

 Charlene Ann Perun, 72, of Guilderland, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020. After moving to Guilderland, she most recently worked for the Guilderland Central School District as a cashier at the middle school. 

Christine M. Angione, 76, of Schenectady, New York, died January 14, 2020. In 1982 Chris joined Schenectady City Schools serving as School Counselor and later as City-Wide Chairperson for Guidance and Social Work. Upon her retirement in 2005 the Guidance office at Schenectady High School was named in her honor. 

Alice W. Lake, 92, formerly of Fort Plain, NY, passed away January 11, 2020. Mrs. Lake had started working at Luxary Knitting in Fort Plain, then went to work in the Fort Plain school cafeteria. In her "semi-retirement" she worked at Nelsons Dry Cleaners in Fort Plain.

Mary Jane Varno, 83, of Schenectady, died Thursday, January 10, 2020. She had worked for New York State for several years before starting her banking career with Trustco Bank. In her retirement she worked as an aid for the City of Schenectady School District.

Corinne R. McGarvey, 67, of Glenville, passed away January 11, 2020. After a 20-year secretarial career with Schenectady County Community College, Corinne retired.

Patricia "Patty" L. Weaver Burgess, 55, of Rensselaer, died January 8, 2020. Patty was raised in Rensselaer where she resided her entire life. Patty was a teacher assistant for the Rensselaer City School District. 

Anne McGrath Meyer, 92, former Troy resident, died on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Anne was a longtime secretary at the George Washington Elementary School in Troy.

Roger A. LeGare, 72, of East Greenbush, passed away January 12, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wildwood Programs and/or Crossroads Center for Children, to which Roger enjoyed transporting children with special needs on his daily bus route.

June D. Wainwright, 90, of Mohawk, passed away on January 1, 2020. June was employed as an English teacher at the Mohawk High School for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She taught various grades throughout her career there and was involved with several committees.

Brian David Sherman, 68, of Rotterdam, died January 9, 2020. He worked in many different school districts. He began as an elementary school teacher in Saratoga, he was a vice principal and principal in the Indian River School District, and retired as superintendent of the Schoharie School District in 2014.

Margaret T. Crupi, 91, of Albany, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020. Margaret was a school cafeteria worker for many years at Phillip Schuyler Elementary School. 

Patricia Piccirillo "Patty", 78, of Guilderland, passed away on the Monday, January 6, 2020. Patty was employed as a secretary by Schenectady City Schools for over 35 years. Former students of Van Corlaer School fondly recall trips to the office to see "Mrs. Piccirillo". 

Vincent W. Krzykowski Jr., 72, of Sharon Springs, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Vincent was a Marine Corps veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from SUNY Cobleskill after many years of service with the SUNY system.

Terrilynn "Terri" Douglas Prendergast, 70,  of Averill Park, died Friday, January 3, 2020. Terri was a homemaker for many years raising her three children before becoming a hall monitor at Averill Park High School. 

Aleksandra Miadzielec, 95, of Averill Park, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020. Aleksandra retired from the Averill Park School District in 1987 where she worked in food service primarily at the West Sand Lake Elementary School. Upon her retirement, she was presented with a commendation for perfect attendance.

William E. Fettig, 78, formerly of Watervliet, passed into eternal life on January 6, 2020. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1963 until 1969. Bill worked at SUNY Albany as a bus driver, retiring in 2000. 

Amelia Caccamo, 90, of Downingtown, PA, died Sunday, January 5, 2020. Born and educated in Siderno Marina, Calabria, Italy, she lived for many years in Delmar and worked in the Bethlehem School District.

Richard T. Loveday, Jr., 72, of Guilderland, passed away January 1, 2020. Richard affected the lives of thousands of local students during his 38-year career as a social studies teacher at Albany High School.
