Amber M. Muller, 40, of Hudson, NY, died September 18, 2019. A math teacher at Grover Cleveland High School and Greenburgh Central School District, she was the Key Club moderator and coordinator of blood drives there. Amber was a member of Suburbia Roller Derby, skating under the name Mz. Aftermath. Posted August 24, 2020.

Harold E. Buck, Jr., 81, of Rockville Centre, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019. Harold was a science teacher at Hicksville Middle School for more than 30 years. He was a member of Alerts Engine Company No. 2 of the Rockville Centre Fire Department for 54 years, and served as its captain. Posted August 24, 2020.

John Edward “Jack” Hubbard passed away December 29, 2019 in Tucson, Arizona. Born in 1933 in Binghamton, NY, served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jack was a Professor at the State University of New York at Brockport where he taught Earth Sciences for more than 30 years. Jack conducted numerous workshops to train young science professors in hydrology. Posted August 24, 2020.

Ralph Charles Muckle Jr., 82, of Sayville NY/Bonita Springs FL passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019. Ralph worked as a school teacher at Oak Park Elementary School in the Brentwood Public School District in Florida for 32 years.  In addition, he administered the English as a Second Language Program at Brentwood’s Night High School for 25 years. Posted August 21, 2020.

John Pomeroy Ruebsamen, Jr. of Fayetteville, NY passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019. He was born on October 20, 1936 in Greenport, NY and served in the Army Signal Corps. John enjoyed teaching math at State University at New Paltz, NY. Posted August 21, 2020.

Howard “Duke” C. Miller, Jr., of Plattsburgh passed away on September 17, 2019. He was born in Latham, NY on March 18, 1932. After college graduation he had a long and distinguished career teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh for forty years where he was involved in many committees.

Eric M. Van Deusen of Hudson was born on June 26, 1943 and passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. He was a librarian at Greene Community College for many years. Eric also volunteered at the Mohonk Preserve doing trail maintenance.

Martine Cadet, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla, born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 25, 1970, passed away August 21, 2019. Martine served as the District Wide Attendance Social Worker for the East Ramapo School District for the last 20 years.

Billie Jean Peterson, 80, of Nassau, passed away December 31, 2019. Billie Jean was born on September 21, 1939, in Mount Clemens, Mich.  Billie retired from the East Greenbush Central School District after working 29 years in the school's cafeteria system.

George H. Amedore, 72, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019. He worked for Saratoga Schools as a school psychologist and principal of the Division Street School, Assistant Superintendent of the South Glens Falls school district and, later, Superintendent in Plattsburgh until he retired in 2002.  He was an advocate for Special Education students, integrating them into the regular classroom long before it was common practice.

Richard (Dick) Agar, 90, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019, in Belleville, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korea crisis and in 1956, he became part of the Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake teaching staff. In addition to teaching physical education, he coached freshman football and basketball for both boys and girls during his tenure. Having retired in 1987 from teaching he later drove a bus until 2016.

Dave Goyette, of Scotia, passed away on December 28, 2019, at the age of 61. He created the curriculum and the lab for the Fulton Montgomery Community College HVAC/R program, and taught the courses for several years. 

Frank E. Raymond, 77, former resident of Mechanicville, died Monday, December 30, 2019, in Hudson, Fla. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-66. Frank was an associate professor at Hudson Valley Community College for 33 years, as a Computer Aided Machinery and Drawing instructor, retiring in 2011.

Corinne Acker of Vischer Ferry passed away December 21, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn on April 24, 1931 and spent 38 enjoyable years employed as a teacher and elementary school counselor in public schools in New York, Connecticut and Georgia. 

Joan S. Conboy, 89, of Fort Plain/ St. Johnsville, passed away December 20, 2019. She was born on March 15, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. Joan was an English Teacher at Canajoharie High School for several years.

Dolores Marie (Gorea) Carona of Albany passed away Monday, December 30, 2019. Born in Ilion, N.Y. on December 20, 1930, she spent most of her career in the South Colonie School District, teaching sixth grade at Shaker Elementary and Sand Creek Middle School for many years until her retirement in 1989.

Edward G. VanAmerongen, 86, of Colonie, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019. He joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. Edward became a technology teacher and was known by his students as "Mr. Van." He retired from the South Colonie School District after 25 years in 1987. 

Ronald P. Mullen, 72, of Freehold, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019. He was born on February 22, 1947, in Newburgh. He began working at Greenville Central School as a math teacher in 1969 and continued until his retirement in 2000.

John Daniel Walko, 77, of Watervliet, died December 7, 2019. He taught social studies at Columbia High School in East Greenbush for over 30 years. At Columbia he was the founder of the Model Congress Club which he led for decades. In addition, he retired from teaching public policy and education at H.V.C.C. and SUNY Albany.

Michael T. Nyhan, 71, of Burnt Hills, died Thursday, December 12, 2019. In 1970, he joined the United States Army, serving stateside in the Medical Service Corps After military service, Mike taught science courses at Blind Brook High School in Rye, N.Y. Later, he served in administrative positions at Burnt Hills High School and the Schodack Central School District until his retirement in 2005.

Mary K. Eaton McDonough, 79, of Clifton Park, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019. She worked as a teacher and a librarian before raising her family. She later obtained her license in real estate to pursue her career as a realtor.

Amelia Therese (Citrano) Curtin, 78,  of Saratoga Springs, passed away December 14, 2019. Amelia was a librarian assistant for almost 20 years at Chango Elementary School and Shatekon Elementary School in the Shenendehowa School District in Clifton Park. 

Frances D. "Fran" Yankowski, 86, of Clifton Park, formerly of Galway and Guilderland, died Thursday, December 12, 2019. She worked as a registered nurse at Ellis Hospital for 22 years before being  employed by the Capital Region BOCES, where she taught practical nursing for 22 years, retiring in 1998.

Alan H. Arnold, 87, of Saratoga Springs, died on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Alan played with many orchestras, some of them being the Huntington, N.Y. Symphony, the Glens Falls Symphony, and the Music Company Orchestra, as well as several others. He also taught for 35 years in the Jericho, New York Public Schools.

Warren E. Wells, 92, of North Nassau, died on Friday, December 6, 2019. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., Warren was a biology and general science teacher in Lansingburgh School for 22 years and also taught summer school at Troy High School. He was President of the N.Y.S. Maple Producers Association for several year, a member of the Maple Hall of Fame in Croghan, N.Y. in 2000 and owned and operated a maple business since 1969.

Mary Elizabeth "Mert" Paton, 79, of Brant Lake passed on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Mert worked as a physical education instructor with the Pontiac School System in Pontiac, MI,  St. Ambrose elementary school and then at Shaker High School in North Colonie. In 1975, she joined the Troy School District as a guidance counselor at the Troy Alternate Learning Center, where she worked until her retirement in 1996.

Mary Domblewski passed away December 6, 2019. Mary was born in Rotterdam Junction, New York, in 1922, and worked very hard on the Home Front during World War II as a secretary for the General Electric Company and as a volunteer candy striper in the local hospital. When her children got older, Mary went to work at Draper School (later merged with the Mohonasen School District) in Rotterdam, where she took on a series of administrative duties.

Knute R. Krom “Rocky”, 78, of Latham, passed away Monday, December 9, 2019. Born in Albany, Rocky worked various jobs throughout his life including as a waiter and in construction. He went on to retire from (South) Colonie Central High School as a security guard after 35 years.

Dale C. Turner, 60, of the Town of Little Falls, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019. After completing his education, Dale accepted a position as an assistant principal at Ilion High School. He then became a principal for Remsen High School and retired after 20 years of service in the education field. At the time of his death, Dale was a college English instructor and consultant for the Utica Academy of Science and he also taught English online to students in Beijing, China. 

Kathleen A. Rinella, 80 of Loudonville, went to her heavenly reward on November 29, 2019. A resident of Loudonville for 57 years, Kathie taught for two years at Maplewood Elementary School and 15 years at Good Shepherd Nursery School.

Virginia "Ginny" Buniak, 95 of Clifton Park, previously a longtime resident of Hudson, N.Y., died Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Early in her life, Ginny worked as a "Lunch Lady" at Greenport School in Hudson. Later she managed the cafe and hospitality shop at Columbia Memorial Hospital and was a lifetime member of the CMH Auxiliary.

Anthony L. "Dudie" Cocozzo, 84 of Mechanicville, died Thursday evening, December 5, 2019. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-61. Anthony had a lifetime association with Mechanicville City School District, having served as superintendent, business manager, teacher and coach for years.

Joanne O'Leary of Nassau passed away December 3, 2019. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Joanne completed her master's degree in counseling psychology and worked for many years as a dedicated, hard-working and compassionate guidance counselor in East Greenbush. She loved her middle schoolers.

James C. Mawn, 89, formerly of Mechanicville, died on Saturday, November 30, 2019, in Princeton, Ky. As a De La Salle Christian Brother he taught at Christian Brothers schools in Michigan and New York before leaving the Order in 1958. Later he taught general science at the junior/senior high school level in New Rochelle, Yorktown Heights and Pelham, N.Y. from which he retired from teaching in 1985 after 27 years in public secondary education.

 Susan A. Howland, 77, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019. She worked as an elementary school teacher for the Scotia-Glenville School District, specifically Glendaal and Lincoln Elementary Schools, until her retirement.

Paul F. Hooker, 81, of Scotia, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Paul taught Social Studies at Shaker High School in North Colonie for four years, serving as class advisor. After receiving his certification in guidance, Paul worked as a guidance counselor at Shaker High School, until his retirement in 1993. Paul received Proctor's Theater Award for "Special Recognition for dedicated service" for leading a group of volunteer fundraisers and refreshment staff (the bartenders) for the theatre for over 25 years.

Mary Jane Kretzler, of Albany, passed away December 1, 2019. She was born May 12, 1937. Mary Jane had a long career as a teacher in the Albany City School District, spending the bulk of her career as an elementary school teacher at Albany Public School #19 on New Scotland Avenue, retiring in 1994.

Frank W. Ross, 66, of Burnt Hills, passed away Friday, November 29, 2019. He was born in Troy on January 28, 1953. Frank retired from the Cohoes City School District. He enjoyed researching his Scottish ancestory.

Anthony F. Coppola, Jr., 95, of Delray Beach, Florida passed away Sunday, November  24, 2019. After returning from the European theatre of WWII, Tony began his teaching career at Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady. His family moved to Connecticut in 1963 where he would finish his teaching career as District Coordinator and Department Chair of World Languages at Wilton High School.

Carol Ann Garofalo, 85, of Clifton Park, passed away November 10, 2019. Carol and her late husband operated a tax and business services company. In addition she taught home economics many years for the Shenendehowa School System.

Thomas Tucker, 76, of Ravena, passed away November 20, 2019. Tom taught business subjects and coached at Draper High School in Schenectady and at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. Upon retirement he became the editor-in-chief for ten years at the Ravena News Herald. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army and N.Y.S. Army National Guard.

Judith Gallagher, 78, of Slingerlands, passed away November 2, 2019. Born in Albany, Judy was a reading specialist at the Bethlehem Central Middle School for 25 years.

Kevin P. Harrington, 38, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Kevin worked for 13 years as a Special Education teacher at his former high school, Taconic. He was also a peer resource counselor, another one of the many ways in which Kevin was able to provide support and encouragement to his students.

Mary Elizabeth VanDeCarr, 93, of Rhinebeck, died November 13, 2019. Mary worked as a secretary for the Wappingers Central School District for 30 years and served as dog warden for one term. Mary loved animals and had a passion for rescuing dogs.

Helen J. Eidens, of Scotia, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019. She was born in Hartfield, New York on March 1, 1926 and grew up helping her family run the Lighthouse Point grocery store in Chautauqua, New York. She enjoyed a long career teaching shorthand and business math at Linton High School in Schenectady, New York.

Roger E. Tourtellot, 65, of Ballston Spa, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He served in the US Army until his honorable discharge as an E-4 on February 1, 1978. Roger had a long and fulfilling career at Shenendehowa Central School as a security officer until his retirement.

Cynthia M. Grob, 68 of Ballston Lake, died Thursday, November 14, 2019. Cynthia retired in 2008 from the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex County BOCES with her home base at the Myers Education Center in Saratoga Springs as an assistive technology specialist.  

Edward J. Greene Sr., 88, of Glenmont, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Born in Boston on September 27, 1931, he was employed as a special education teacher for 30 years in the Greater Amsterdam School District. Ed was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 2nd Infantry Division from 1952 to 1954.

J. Mark Anderson, 70, of Clifton Park, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019. He was a tenured secondary English teacher at Mexico Academy, and was the operator of the Candlelight Cottage in Parish, N.Y. Mark was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a member of the American Legion.

Marjorie Helen Thomas Osterhout, 97, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. She worked at Broadalbin Central School as an account clerk for several years. She also served, alongside her family, as the dispatch center for the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Department from the early-1960s until 1981. 

Lorraine "Rain" H. Bennett, 59, of Glenville, passed away November 7, 2019. Rain worked various jobs in the food industry at Home of the Good Shepard, SUNY Albany, Siena, Heritage Home for Women and most recently at Pashley Elementary School in Glenville.

Lucille M. Bagnoli, 76, formerly of Mechanicville, died November 2, 2019 in Palmetto, Fla. Born in Troy on April 25, 1943, she taught high school history for 33 years; most of her career at Mechanicville High School.

Martha van Wagenen Ivins, 91, of Cobleskill, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019. She was born January 13, 1928 in the hamlet of Lawyersville. She retired in 1988 from Montgomery Township School District where she was a special education instructional aide.

Jane H. Stavely, 87, of Schenectady and Bolton Landing, passed away November 5, 2019. Jane was born in Schenectady and was a school teacher at Yates Elementary School in Schenectady for several years before becoming a homemaker and mom.

Sandra L. Bump Peckham, 73, of Grafton, died  Saturday, November 2, 2019. Mrs. Peckham was a school bus driver for 48 years for Star and Strand and formerly for the Tamarac School System and Folmsbee Transportation. 

Marilyn Mader Reeves, born December 19, 1931, in Albany, died October 23, 2019 in Greenville, S.C. Her 31 years of teaching reading lead her to becoming supervisor of reading K-12 in the East Greenbush Central Schools of upstate New York.

Patricia "Patty" Ellis (nee White), 84, formerly of Delmar, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019. She moved to Delmar in 1964 and worked as a school nurse at Hamagrael Elementary School for 25 plus years. 

Bertha Mackey Golden, 97, of Schenectady, NY, died November 1, 2019. She was born on November 7, 1921 and was one of 12 children. Bertha attended school through the 8th grade. She then worked at a clothing factory in Chambersburg, PA. Bertha was a homemaker and also worked as a lunch lady in her children's elementary school.

Pamela Jane Tweedie, 68, of Rotterdam, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019. Born and educated in Burlington, VT, Pamela was a para-professional for over 17 years in the Schenectady City School District. Pam last worked in Mont Pleasant School.

Virginia A. Ward (Holz), of Broadalbin,  passed away on October 30, 2019.  She was 80. She was compassionate, whether as a teacher who ensured students were safe, fed, and learning, as an administrator of the Capital Region BOCES Teen Moms Program, or as Pupil Personnel Director for Johnstown Schools.

Marea Reid-Roberts, 91, of Colonie passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019. She worked as a librarian and media specialist for 28 years in the South Colonie school district retiring in 1989. Marea was a librarian at both West Albany and Veeder Elementary Schools. She was very active in NYSUT Retiree Council 10 where she was known as "The Travel Queen" for her many years of arranging bus trips and social events for RC10.

Carol P. Ganance, 58, of North Greenbush, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Born in Albany, she retired from the Albany City School District where she was a teacher for 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their camp in Old Forge. 

Roberta A. Puszcz, of East Amherst, NY, passed away October 20, 2019. Born in Rotterdam, NY, on June 21, 1947, she taught physical education at Lancaster Middle School in Lancaster, NY for thirty plus years prior to her retirement.

Owen Dale Sutton died on Oct. 23, 2019 at age 89. He served as an elementary principal of Shenendehowa Central Schools for 20 years. After retiring Owen served as a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America, the Master Gardening program of Cooperative Extension, Friends of the Library, and Hospice.

Dona Marie Vaughan Baird, 91, of Glenville, passed on Friday, October 18, 2019. Born in Gloversville, NY on January 30, 1928 , she worked in many different roles as a telephone operator, an elementary school lunch monitor at Glendaal School in the Scotia-Glenville School District, a retail person at W.T. Grant, Price Chopper, Stewarts and Hale's Vegetable Stand into her eighties.

Geralyn E. Minkler, 76, of Galway, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Geralyn ran a daycare in her home in Niskayuna for many years. She later moved to Galway and was a teacher's aide at the Galway Central Schools, retiring in 2010.

Philip J. Kaufman, 77, of Niskayuna, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Born and educated in Buffalo, NY, Philip was a Vietnam era Navy veteran, Philip was employed by the Schenectady City School District for more than 21 years as a plumber prior to his retirement.


Theodore "Teddy" R. D'Aloia, 81, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019. Born in Troy on October 29, 1937, Teddy taught in South Colonie and Valley Stream, Long Island, before joining the Saratoga Springs School system in 1964. During his 34 year tenure there, he served as a classroom teacher, math teacher and principal of Schools 2, 4 and Division Street School. 

John R. Ostwald, 69, of Troy, died on October 19, 2019. John was a Professor of Psychology at HVCC, retiring in 2015. He was a columnist for The Record and Saratogian newspapers. John was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era and was an advocate for veterans.

Carmen Edna Rios Sissman, 86, of Latham, died Wednesday October 16, 2019. Born September 5, 1933, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, she began a career in teaching at PS 122 in New York City.

Virginia M. Jackowski, 90, formerly of Clifton Park and Amsterdam, New York, died on Sunday, October 13, 2019. She was an elementary school teacher in Longview, Wash., Newark, New Jersey, Amsterdam, and Niskayuna.

Paul J. Longo, 88, of Rotterdam, passed away on October 19, 2019. Born in Schenectady, NY, Paul  proudly served in the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army in the second armored division (Hell on Wheels) as a Communications Specialist. He was both an Elementary School Principal and School Administrator for the Schalmont School District.

F. Ronald Bullis, 78, of Clearwater, Fla., passed away September 19, 2019. Born in Goshen, N.Y., Ronald lived in Albany for many years before retiring to Florida 14 years ago. He was a longtime teacher and guidance counselor in the Kingston City School District.

Joan Roeder Barron, 88, of Voorheesville, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. She had worked for the West Hempstead, Long Island School District, and Westchester County High Schools. She was an elementary school librarian for the Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar from 1969 to 1986 and the Guilderland Public Library from 1986 to 1995.

Teresa G. Prevost, 86, of Clifton Park, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019. Teresa lived in Clifton Park with her family since 1969. She taught second grade for many years in the Shenendehowa Central School District at Skano Elementary. 

Jerome Richard Hanley, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on October 11, 2019. He served for two years in the U.S. Army. After his service, Jerry joined the faculty of Dartmouth College and then SUNY Albany as a professor of theater.

Esther J. Bartlett, 87, of Scotia, passed away Oct. 10, 2019. She worked at Ellis Hopsital as a Nurse's Aide, then as a clerk for GE Aeronautics until taking time to raise her family. She later returned to work in the Duanesburg Central School System.

Edna Mae Kelly, 83, of Malta, went home to glory on Sunday, October 13, 2019. Edna was born in Waldwick, N.J., and worked as a special education teacher for Northeast Parent and Child Society in Schenectady for many years.

Peter McMahon, 75, of Lake Katrine, NY, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019. Peter was a tenured science teacher at Red Hook Central Schools in Red Hook, NY from 1967 to 2000. He also was involved with the NYSUT Retiree Council 13, as a member of their Board of Directors and as treasurer. In 2015, Peter was honored as the NYSUT Retiree of the Year.

Beth Ann Baumert, 57, of Malta, died Sunday, October 6, 2019. Dr. Baumert worked at various colleges, such as SUNY New Paltz, Dutchess Community College, Vassar College, and Maricopa College in Arizona, teaching material science, nanotechnology and related sciences.

Frederick T. Gula, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Guilderland, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and went on to his career as a physical education teacher with the Greenville School District and once moving to the area taught P.E. at Scotia-Glenville Schools. After several years, Fred became the principal of Scotia-Glenville Elementary School.

Mary Anne (Broadhead) Kirsch, 78, of Rotterdam, died Sunday, October 6, 2019. After scollege, she became an associate librarian at Hudson Valley Community College. She worked there for her entire career, retiring in 1996.

Josephine A. "Jo" Wierzbowska, 94, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019. She retired from her career at Scotia-Glenville High School as a Teacher of Physical Education and as Librarian.

Theresa L. Baker, 76, of Porter Corners, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019. Born in Colchester, Vermont on December 30, 1942, Terri worked for WSWHE BOCES and Capital Region BOCES for over 30 years. 

Joan Mary Prescott, 84, of Schaghticoke, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Born in Cohoes on November 9, 1934, Joan taught in the Stillwater and Lansingburgh School Districts for over 30 years, mainly teaching first grade at Turnpike Elementary School.

H. Jean (Helen Jean) Wilkinson, 89, of Acton, MA – formerly of Schenectady, NY – passed away Monday, October 7, 2019.  Jean spent most of her career as Associate Professor of Psychology at the State University of NY in Albany (SUNYA). When she retired in 1995, Jean was also the Director of the Psychology Advisement Center at SUNYA.

Evonne Bennett Lutkus, 88, of Glenmont, passed away on October 9, 2019. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in elementary education. She worked for Slingerlands Elementary School for 39 years.

Patricia Ann Suhr, 80, of Guilderland, passed away on October 3, 2019. Pat was born on July 20, 1939, in Allentown, Pa. Pat enjoyed her 25 years working at Lynwood Elementary School before retiring in 2000. 

Werner William "Bill" Berglas, 90, of Niskayuna, passed away on September 29, 2019. Dr. Berglas was a teacher of mathematics and biology at the Voorheesville Central School, principal of Voorheesville Junior - Senior High School, superintendent of Voorheesville schools, superintendent of the Granby, Mass. Public Schools and superintendent of the Town of Harwich, Mass. Public Schools. 

Dorothy Anne Mancini, 92, of Rotterdam, NY, passed away on Sept 12, 2019. After raising a family, she returned to the work force at the Schenectady County Community College, working in the Begley Library and retiring as Executive Secretary to the Library Director with 24 years of service.

Charlotte Louise Sauve passed away Monday October 1, 2019, at the age of 86. She worked for General Electric in Pittsfield MA, until her marriage in 1956.  Charlotte worked as the food manager at Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Senior High School, retiring in 1997.

Harold G. Beyer Jr., 73, of Delmar, passed away September 18, 2019. Born in Forest Hills Gardens, Hal moved to the Capital Region to begin his legal career in Albany County. Most of Hal's professional career included representing teachers' labor unions and litigating to protect educator rights.

Phoebe Dare Anderson, 105, of Melrose, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. She began her career teaching at the Horace Mann School in New York City. In her first year, she was recruited by the Emma Willard School, to move to Troy and introduce an innovative penmanship program into the school's elementary division. She concluded at Emma Willard in 1943 and during World War II, she volunteered for the American Red Cross helping locate prisoners of war. In 1955, Mrs. Anderson joined the Lansingburgh school system, teaching fifth grade at the Haskell School, and later directing the Lansingburgh Resource Center, where she managed one of the largest federally funded Title I reading programs in New York State. She retired in 1984. 

Emily Doris (Hemke) Neumann, 93, of Albany, passed away September 20, 2019. Emily was born on May 11, 1926, in Hampton, Va. Emily taught fifth grade math and English at Genet Elementary School in East Greenbush.

Laurie Cooper, 71, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019. Laurie worked at Hillside Elementary School for 28 years before retiring in 2011. She enjoyed playing canasta and spending time with her family.

Carl F. Herman of Rotterdam passed away Monday, September 23, 2019. After high school, Carl served in the United States Navy. For 30 years, Carl taught and later supervised social studies for the Guilderland Central School District. He also served for a time as supervisor of student teachers at SUNY Albany.

Lois Neufeld, 89, of Edgewater, Florida,  died September 22, 2019. She held teaching positions in Elizabethtown, KY, Columbia, MO and Denver, CO. Her family finally settled in Schenectady, NY where Lois taught in the Schenectady Public Schools and Niskayuna Public Schools before ending her career as an administrator at Brown School, a private elementary school. 

Paul Erwin Tyner, 88,  of Glenville, New York, passed away on September 22, 2019. Paul first taught fifth grade at Cato-Meridian Central School. From 1962 until 1988, Paul was a physics, chemistry and electronics teacher at Schalmont High School. Following retirement, Paul taught electronics at Schenectady Community College. He also taught computer science to female inmates at the Schenectady County Jail to provide practical skills for future employment.

William H. Broland Jr., 88, formerly of Niskayuna, died on Sunday, September 22, 2019. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean War, as a meteorologist in Morocco. Bill started his teaching career at South High in Glens Falls, later teaching for many years at the South Colonie Central School District High School, retiring in 1987.

On Thursday, September 19, 2019, Ruth Brady Corcoran, 85, of Clifton Park, passed away. She taught in the Lansingburgh School District from 1955-1957 and then at Post High School, Marine Corps. Schools in Quantico, Va. from 1957-1959. 

Michele D. (Countermine) DeLorenzo, 42, of Rotterdam, passed away Tuesday evening, September 17, 2019. Born and educated in Schenectady, Michele was a math teacher for over 10 years at Schalmont Middle School in Rotterdam prior to her teaching at Canajoharie Middle School for the last 4 years.
Dorothy Ellen (Ellis) Foster passed away September 17, 2019. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 15, 1928. She taught in the Mohonasen and Schenectady school districts. Following retirement she continued to substitute teach until the age of 75.

Marjorie Sisk, 98, of Schoharie, formerly of Baldwinsville, passed away on September 14, 2019. Marjorie was born in Nansemond County, Virginia in 1920. She retired from Baldwinsville School District in 1986 after 23 years working in the cafeteria.

Meredith "Mac" McNeil passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019. He graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with an associate's degree and Cornell University with a bachelor's degree before beginning a teaching career at SUNY Cobleskill. He was an associate professor in the Ag Engineering department for 32.

Timothy Lehmann III (Tim), of Ballston Spa, NY, died September 16, 2019. After teaching at Colorado State University, Tim worked at  SUNY Empire State College, as one of its earliest educators and administrators. He became vice president of research and evaluation for Empire State and the founding director of the National Center on Adult Learning.

Barry Inman, 70, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019. Born in Niskayuna, Barry was a lifelong resident of Schenectady, New York. He served in the US Army Reserves-Corps of Engineers, between 1969 and 1975. Barry was retired from General Electric and the Schenectady City School District. 

Joan C. (Munson) Clewell of Nassau, NY, passed away August 22, 2019. She was born in Albany in 1933. Joan retired after 25 years as a school bus driver for the East Greenbush school district before moving to Florida.

Ronald W. Spira, 82,  of Clifton Park, NY, and The Villages, FL, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was a dedicated English Teacher in the Saratoga Springs, NY, Junior High School for more than 30 years.

Margaret Bellinger Carrigan, 95, of Allen, TX, passed away August 20, 2019. Upon graduating from high school, Margaret was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY and in the late sixties went to work for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central Schools.

Susan Codden, 71, of Albany, passed away on September 4, 2019. She was born on December 2, 1947, in Lansing, Mich. She was a secretary at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland for nearly 30 years.

Richard Broome, 74, of Pilot Knob, New York, and New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away on September 1, 2019. Dick was a science teacher at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland for 18 years and wrestling coach. In 1985, he moved to Queensbury to work as assistant principal at Glens Falls Middle School, before becoming principal at Argyle Central School.

Bernice "Bernie" Biechman Biers, 84, of Coeymans Hollow, passed away Friday, September 6, 2019. Bernie retired after 36 years as a school bus driver for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District.

Elizabeth "Liz" LaCerais, 87, of Schenectady, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019. She worked at Schenectady County Community College, working her way up to the position of Registrar, retiring with twenty-five years of service.

Barbara J. Felts, 78, of Schenectady, died Thursday, September 5, 2019. Barbara was a school teacher for the Ichabod Crane Central School District in Kinderhook, NY. Later, she worked as a librarian for the Town of Colonie. 

Rosanne Marie McFarland, 66, of Colonie, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Born in Albany on May 7, 1953, Rosanne was formerly employed as a dental assistant, and as a teacher's aide at the South Colonie Central School District, helping students with disabilities.

Mary D. Yonkers of Rensselaer passed away August 31, 2019. Mary was born in Albany on February 8, 1929. Before starting her family, Mary worked at Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer. She returned to work in 1972 at Van Rensselaer Elementary School as a teacher's aide where she continued to work well into her 70's.

Claire E. Forgea Tudico of Rensselaer passed away Friday, August 30, 2019. She was born on November 26, 1926, in Bennington, Vt and moved to Rensselaer as a young girl. Claire worked in the library of the Rensselaer City School District.

Dennis "Frank" McCarthy, 88, of Colonie, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954. Dennis began his career in education as a schoolteacher at the Shenendehowa School District. After a few years, he accepted a position with the South Colonie Central School District at the high school in the Social Studies Department. He also taught at Lisha Kill and Sand Creek Schools. In addition to teaching, Dennis served as vice principal at both Vincentian Institute and Lisha Kill, serving the freshman class. He retired from the South Colonie Central School District after more than 30 years of service.

Michael J. Posillico, 65, died Thursday, August 29, 2019. Mike was a physical education and health teacher, baseball coach and athletic director. He worked at the Mount McGregor Correctional Facility in Wilton, Schoharie Central School District, Schenectady School District and the N.Y.S. Department of Health.

Gloria Jean Fusco, 84, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, September 1, 2019. Gloria taught 1st grade at Craig School in the Niskayuna School District, retiring after 45 years of devotion to her vocation. 

Kathleen Koines (née Holt), 75, passed September 1, 2019. Kathleen was born in North Andover, MA, and lived much of her early life in different towns in Massachusetts, before settling in Ballston Spa in the early 1980's. Kathleen worked as a teacher in Cambridge, MA and Galway, NY.

Marie Eva Sturm of Wilton died July 16, 2019, at age 94. Marie was born in 1925 in Prague, Czechoslovakia and lived through the Nazi occupation in World War II. Her best friend in childhood was Renata, a Jewish girl. At great peril Marie continued seeing Renata after Jews were expelled from school. Renata died under the Nazis on September 6, 1943. Marie had a 31-year career as a social worker in the Schenectady City elementary schools.

Edna Yamin (nee Watson), 91, of Troy, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. She operated L'Ecole de Musique - her original and highly-regarded musical pre-kindergarten - from her home on Myrtle Avenue in Troy in the mid-1970s. In 1984, she joined the Troy public school system, where she taught kindergarten until her retirement in the early 1990s.

Sheila Mae Arpei (LaPoint), 71, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019. Sheila was employed with the Saratoga Springs School District for a total of 33 years and spent 19 of those years as an in-school suspension teacher's aide, and 14 years as a substitute teacher.

Joan Evelyn (Vesely) Tofte, 78, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Aug. 15, 2019. Joan was born in Schenectady on March 9, 1941 and lived in Rotterdam for many years. Joan worked as a secretary and seamstress and retired from Capitol Region BOCES.

Roslyn Moser, 83, a longtime resident of Berne, died Friday, August 16, 2019. Mrs. Moser worked many years at Ellis Hospital as a Registered Nurse. After moving to Berne in 1969 she became the elementary school nurse for Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School, a position she enjoyed for over 20 years.

Nancy L. Wainwright, 80, of Scotia, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019. Nancy was born on August 1, 1939 in Amsterdam, NY. She was a graduate of Woestina High School in 1956 and had a successful career working at both the Scotia-Glenville High School and at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. 

Edythe W. Robbins, 93, passed away August 10, 2019 in Okatie, SC. She spent most of her professional years teaching mathematics at Adirondack Community College (now SUNY Adirondack).
Allen G. Farrand, of Scotia, passed away on August 26, 2019. Allen worked many years as a School Administrator for Schenectady City Schools. After retirement, Allen worked at the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth.

Jordan I. Evans, 74, of Castleton, passed away August 22, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn. Jordan was an elementary school teacher at Donald P. Sutherland School in the East Greenbush Central School District for more than 35 years.

Roddie Ellen Dobris Kaplan, 83, of Albany, died Monday, August 26, 2019. An educator and a speech pathologist, Roddie had a long career as a speech teacher, mostly in the Albany public schools.

Helen Jean Van Deusen, 94, died August 6, 2019.  Helen taught kindergarten at George D. Ryder Elementary of the Cobleskill Central School system for her entire 44-year teaching career.  After retirement in 1990, she developed a literacy program for at-risk juveniles at the Summit Shock Facility and took great satisfaction in teaching many young men to read for the first time. 

Norma Lumia Sowers, 72, of Ballston Lake, NY, passed away on August 7, 2019. Norma taught elementary school at Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse for several years. She retired from Washington Saratoga Warren Hamilton Essex BOCES where she worked as an administrative assistant.

Larraine K. Lasher, 68, of Mohawk, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. Larraine was employed by Herkimer County Community College until her retirement in 2005 after 34 years of dedicated service.

Virginia M. Bolton, of Rotterdam, passed away on August 6, 2019. She was 92. She worked at General Electric and retired from Mohonasen Central School District where she worked in the High School Guidance Office and the Bradt Elementary School Library.

Andrew "Andy" Long, 84, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019. He was born December 1, 1934 in Plainfield, NJ. Andy retired from the US Air Force after twenty years of service. He later retired from a teaching career at Shenendehowa High School where he also served as a soccer coach.

Roland J.F. Witmer, 78, of Niskayuna, died Saturday, August 10, 2019. He worked as a guidance counselor for 30 years at Mohonasen High School, retiring in 1996.

Robert "Bob" R. Salamone, 69, of Edgartown, Mass. and formerly of Delmar, N.Y. passed away July 24, 2019. He was a teacher, coach and house leader at the Bethlehem Central School District for 33 years, retiring in 2007. Bob coached football, softball and middle school basketball during his tenure in the Bethlehem schools. Bob built a playground at Slingerlands School and planted and maintained a garden at the Early Learning Center. 

Edward Joseph Connor, 75, of Albany, died Wednesday, August 7, 2019. Ed was a fifth grade school teacher for the Watervliet City School District for over 35 years. He began his career at School 9 and later taught at the Watervliet Elementary School, retiring in 2000.

Richard James Newport, 83, of North Greenbush, died on August 3, 2019. Dick was educated in the Albany schools and joined the Army near the end of the Korean War. He taught at George Washington School in Brunswick and remained in that position from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. During the following fourteen years he served as a substitute elementary teacher in the Berlin Central School District, several times filling long-term positions.

Anne Marie Brown, 85, of Schenectady, passed away on July 27, 2019. Born in Troy on March 8, 1934, she worked as a school teacher and librarian for the Schalmont Central School System.

Sarah Alexis Foster of Harrison left a mark on the world in many significant ways, though just 27 years old. Tragically, this beautiful soul was abruptly taken from all those who knew and loved her on February 15, 2019 in an accident in New York City. For the last four years, Sarah taught 6th grade social studies at Louis M. Klein Middle School, Harrison Central School District, Harrison NY, where she also coached girls volleyball.

William (Bill) Thomas Kirchgasser, 79, of Colton, NY (formerly of Potsdam), died January 14, 2019. After a year of teaching at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz, in 1969 Bill began his long and distinguished career as a Professor in the Geology Department at SUNY Potsdam, Chairing the Department from 1985 to 2000, and retiring in 2004 as a Full Professor.

Robert Stanton Warner, 84, of Keeseville, passed away Feb. 4, 2019. He was born on January 21, 1935, and grew up on Long Island. Robert retired from Middle Country School District in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County where he worked as a teacher and Chairman of the Business Education Department.

David E. Closson, 91, of Webster, died November 21, 2018. After high school he enlisted in the Army. He enjoyed a 30-year career at Brighton High School in Rochester as a teacher and guidance counselor. In 1997 he received the Visiting Nurse Service Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with Meals on Wheels.

Gail M. Ronca, 69, of Duanesburg, passed away Sunday morning July 21, 2019. Born and educated in Amsterdam, Gail worked for Verizon for over 30 years as a Construction Coordinator and in retirement she worked for Schalmont Schools as a monitor for over 10 years.

Carmela Montarello, 96, of Troy, died Wednesday morning, July 24, 2019. A seamstress, Carmela worked in the textile industry in Troy for many years. She had also been a cafeteria aide in the Troy School District, and was a parishioner and cook for some years at St. Augustine Parish in Lansingburgh. 

Thomas W. Lenahan, 78, of Herkimer and The Villages in Florida, also a former Clifton Park resident, died on July 21, 2019. He was born in Schenectady, on November 18, 1940 and was retired as Professor of Criminal Justice from Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer. Thomas served honorably with the United States Air force from 1960-1982, retiring as a Captain. 

Dorothy Geraldine (Bordeaux) Collins of Wilmington, N.C., passed away July 24, 2019. Dorothy was born in Wilmington, later moved to Fultonville, N.Y., and spent many years employed by the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District. 

Francis H. "Sonny" Garney, 92, of Delanson, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019. Born in Plattsburgh, NY, he served his country honorably in the Navy near the end of World War II. Sonny was a longtime custodian and school bus driver for the Schalmont School District, retiring in 1988.

Robert G. Lunden, 78, of Malta, passed away on August 1, 2019. After college, Robert went on to serve as an officer in the Navy on the USS Renshaw. Upon return from service, he worked at IBM, RPI, and retired from SUNY Central Administration as Director of Computer Services.

Francesco A. Cichello, "Frank," of Clifton Park, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019. Born on August 11, 1933, in Jonadi, Vibo Valentia, Italy, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957, shortly after immigrating to the United States. "Doc" taught foreign language for 38 years at Scotia-Glenville high School.

Doris Estus Cea, 86, of Colonie, passed away Monday, July 8, 2019.  She taught at the Pine Haven School in Bethpage, N.Y. for many years then taught at Salem High School in Salem, N.H. 

Doris E. Stone, 73, of Albany, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 11, 2019. She was a beloved employee of St. Peter's Hospital for many years. She also loved her job working with children as a bus monitor with Durham Bus Co. and also for First Student Bus Co.

Alexandria K. (Myers) Grimmick, of Watervliet, died Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the age of 33. She served internships in social work with the Outreach Center of Equinox, Inc. in Albany; the Albany County Department of Children, Youth and Families: Child Protective Services; the Albany City School District-Albany High School Night School Program, and the Trinity Alliance in Albany where Alex developed and implemented a financial literacy program for elementary aged children in Trinity's after school program. Her employment included the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families as a caseworker; The College of Saint Rose as an adjunct social work professor and most recently, as a client support specialist with the Albany County Department of Social Services. 

Wayne Lennebacker, 78, of Altamont, passed on July 18, 2019. He was born in Ilion, N.Y. and grew up in Cooperstown. He had a long career in photography; was on the faculty of the Art Dept. at SUNY Albany and worked at GE and CR&D as a Corporate photographer.

June Victoria King of Loudonville, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Born in 1938, June taught home economics for the City School District of Albany for 11 years and then was appointed as supervisor of home economics and career technology, retiring in 1993. 

Mary Graton Comstock, 97 of Saint Augustine, Florida, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2019. On May 21, 1943, she entered in the U.S. Army Air Corps. and served in the European Theatre during World War II as an Air/EVAC Nurse. Following her military service, she worked at the V.A. Hospital in Albany, and subsequently, Memorial Hospital in Albany until 1970 when she became a professor of nursing at Hudson Valley Community College (H.V.C.C.). She retired from H.V.C.C. in 1985.

Eleanor Ann Zahnleuter, 86, of Colonie, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019. She worked as a recording secretary at the Brooklyn Army Base, later moved to Guilderland where she served the Guilderland Central School District in various administrative capacities and ultimately as an Executive Assistant to the Superintendent.

Deanna Patricia "Duffy" Madonna, 77, of Gloversville, passed away on June 25, 2019. During her life she worked as an executive secretary for General Telephone, the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce, HFM BOCES School Library System and the Fulton County Veteran's Agency. She retired in 2006 from the Fulton County Clerk's Office.

Barbara C. Howell, 82, of the Town of Seward, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019. Mrs. Howell was born August 22, 1936 in Gloversville, NY. She worked first for Peter Garner, MD in Cobleskill and later, at SUNY Cobleskill in the Faculty-Student Association where she retired in 2009 after 28 years of service.

Germaine Doremus, 87, died on July 8, 2019. She was born in Toulouse France. Germaine was a French teacher in the Schenectady public schools. Later she became a private French tutor as well as a French teacher at the Niskayuna High School continuing education program. 

Edward C. Peck Jr., of Rexford, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019. Ed was a dedicated History and English middle school teacher for 33 years at the Brittonkill Central School District, and was awarded WNYT Educator of the Week in 2004.

Mary Ann Gerardi Sheehy of Rotterdam passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019. She worked for the State Education Dept. and the Schenectady County Library at the Main Branch. She was a sub with the Schenectady City Schools and a Schalmont monitor/secretary. She last worked at  Schenectady County Community College until retirement in 2011, with 19 years service to the college.

Doris Carol Brown Pletman, of Schenectady, died July 4, 2019 at the age of 91. She taught primary school in Troy and Schenectady and later took on the role of substitute teacher for many years in order to have her first priority raising her family.

Dorothy Mayback Ryan of Voorheesville passed away on July 4, 2019. Dottie was born in Batavia. After completing a degree at Buffalo State University, Dorothy taught in the Theresa and Broadalbin school districts. Later, Dorothy worked in multiple community medical offices as an office manager.

Nancy Lynn Petersen Harrison, 77, of Harrisonburg, VA, died June 29, 2019. Ms. Harrison was born April 8, 1942 in Schenectady, New York, and taught high school speech and drama in New York and later served with the American Red Cross as a “Donut Dolly” in Seoul, Korea. After relocating to Harrisonburg, VA, she taught in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County school systems.

David F. Hollenbeck, of Galway, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019. He was 86. Born in Utica on August 4, 1932, Dave worked in maintenance at the Schenectady School System. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping as well as family trips to Nancy Lake and Ausable River.

Winifred M. Huberty, 87, died on July 1, 2019. Winnie was trained as a classical pianist. Winnie obtained a degree in music education and taught piano for many years, in Amsterdam, Albany, the Loudonville School, and the Albany Conservatory of Music. Later in life she began a second career as a Social Studies teacher at St. Joseph's School in Green Island and Columbia High School.

Jean Mahota Hart, of Latham and formerly of Hudson, died July 5, 2019. As an educator for 34 years, she taught English at junior and senior high schools in Poughkeepsie and at Shaker in the North Colonie School District. retiring in 2000.

John K. Carman, 86, of Nassau, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019. John was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1953-1956. John worked as a carpenter for many years after leaving the Navy. He went on to receive his master's degree from SUNY Oswego, and taught in the East Greenbush Central School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.

William "Bill" Stewart died June 23, 2019.  He retired as a librarian from the Guilderland Central School District. At his request there was no service or obituary.

Dottie (Shin) Gardner of Bristol, Rhode Island,  formerly of Latham, passed away June 6, 2019. She was born on November 9, 1934, in Brooklyn and taught in Tennessee, Japan, and Pennsylvania before moving to Latham to settle and raise her family. She resided in Latham for over 40 years, working as an elementary school teacher in the North Colonie school district until her retirement in 1989.

Stephen Mack, 98, of Waterford, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019. He graduated from the U.S. Maritime School and served in the United States Navy in the North Atlantic and South Pacific. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Albany International and was a school bus driver for the North Colonie School District for 25 years.

Jane Farrar (nee Hoogstoel) passed away on June 27, 2019, in Austin, Texas. She taught home economics at Washington Irving Middle School in Schenectady and was active for many years in the Cooperative Extension at Cornell.

Linda S. Lewis, 81, of Scotia, NY, passed away June 26, 2019. Born on April 21, 1938 in Baltimore, MD, she grew up in Canajoharie, New York. She taught in the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School District and later tutored for various districts including Scotia-Glenville.

Frances P. Unverhau, 93, of Albany, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019. She worked with her husband on their dairy farm and was also a bus driver for the Berne, Knox, Westerlo School District.

Sharon Ann Valente, 60, passed away June 30, 2019. Born in Schenectady on July 4, 1958, she taught at Mohonasen Junior Senior High School from 1980 to 1984 and then from 1984 until she retired in 2013, she taught at Shenendehowa as a 7th grade history teacher.

Hedi Koeppel Moore (Hedwig), formerly of Delmar, died in Falls Church, Virginia on Monday, June 18, 2019. She was born on October 30, 1922 in Switzerland and after service in the Swiss Army Women's Corps during World War II, she served in the Swiss Foreign Service. She began teaching in Bethlehem Central schools in 1965, and taught French and German at Bethlehem Central High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1987.

Paula J. Meisel, 82, a resident of North Greenbush and Bradenton, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019. Paula settled in East Greenbush, where she taught kindergarten and first grade at Bell Top Elementary School.

Harriet Levin Posner, 85, died in Columbia, South Carolina on July 1, 2019. Born on November 16, 1933, in New York City, she lived in Latham and worked as a teacher in the North Colonie School District until retiring in 1989.

Marion "Sally" (Carlo) Archambeault, 76, of Cohoes, passed away on June 22, 2019. Born in Schenectady she was raised in Clifton Park and worked for the Cohoes City School District and the City of Cohoes in various capacities, serving as the Cohoes City Clerk for 21 years until her retirement in 2002. 

Carol Hughey, 77, of Latham, died June 22, 2019. She taught math for several years at Cohoes High School, worked at Gray's Office Supplies in Burnt Hills and retired from Key Bank in 2008.

Peter Shevchik, 92, of Cohoes, died Monday, June 24, 2019. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He worked most of his life as a bus driver in both North Troy and Waterford and also had been employed at General Electric. 

Nicholas J. Mariani, 69, Schenectady, died Friday, June 28, 2018. Through the years he worked at several jobs before working with the Schenectady City School District. In good health he enjoyed activities in Saratoga Springs, family events in Catskill, and the Schenectady Democratic committee gatherings.

Joan LaBarge, 82, of Latham, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019. Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Joan worked in the North Colonie School District before her retirement. She also enjoyed theatre and was a volunteer at Proctors for many years.

Jane F. Scullen Bartis, 88, of Troy, died Monday, June 24, 2019. Born in Albany, she began her career in 1953 as a Physical Education Teacher with the Troy City School District. Jane went on to work at Hoosic Valley Elementary School where she taught second and fourth grade.

Elizabeth B. Santore, 97, of Schoharie, NY, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019. She taught business classes at Berne-Knox and Ballston Spa schools prior to staying at home to raise her family. 

Elizabeth M. Lindskoog, 96, of Delmar, entered eternal life Sunday, June 9, 2019. Elizabeth was born in Germany and at a young age came to the United States and was raised in New York State. Elizabeth worked for over 30 years as a teacher's aide in the Elsmere Elementary School.

Maxine G. Clifford of Castleton, died June 14, 2019. Maxine was born on November 30, 1931 in New Glouster, Maine. She was a bus driver for the Schodack Central School District for 25 years. She retired and then worked for Kinnecutt Bus, Inc. where she drove disabled preschool children to school.

Steven Abaffy, 80, of Schenectady, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019. Steven was born in Budapest, Hungary June 20, 1938. He immigrated to the United States in 1952 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He first taught high school health and biology on Long Island at Plainedge High School for seven years and then taught at Hudson City Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

Linda Legnante, 72, of Ballston Spa, passed away June 16, 2019. She was born in Niskayuna. Linda retired from the Ballston Spa Central Schools in Ballston Spa, where she was loved by many of the children she delivered safely to and from school daily.

Marie Domenica (Parente) Keniry, 80, of Albany, formerly of Halfmoon, passed away June 17, 2019. She taught American history, English and social studies at high schools successively in Ogdensburg, Hudson Falls and Mechanicville.

Lydia J. Boynton, 92, of Schenectady, died Sunday, June 16, 2019. Miss Boynton will be remembered as a Math teacher at Linton High School, where she spent most of her professional career, retiring several years ago.

Margaret Metcalf Long, 72, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019. Margaret was a 2nd grade schoolteacher in the Shenendehowa Central School District for many years prior to retiring in 2001. 

Norma M. Seguin, 89, of West Crescent, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Born on May 2, 1930, in Cohoes, she worked at the Troy Town Shirt Co. in Cohoes for 45 years, retiring in 1990, and later worked in the Arongen school cafeteria in the Schenendehowa School District.

Cecelia Louise (Confortin) LaBelle of Clifton Park passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019. She was born on April 4, 1921, in Brooklyn. She worked as a school crossing guard for the Nassau County Police Dept. on Long Island for almost 20 years.

William James Jr., 96, of Guilderland, died Saturday, June 1, 2019. He served proudly in the Army during World War II, surviving the D-Day invasion. William spent most of his career at the Voorheesville Depot working for the Federal Government as an inspector. After retiring he drove a school bus for the Guilderland Central School District.

Mary Roxanne McDonald Carr, 74,  of Oceanside California, passed away on May 21, 2019. Roxie was born in Rochester and grew up in the nearby town of Lima, N.Y. She worked as an AP History teacher at Guilderland High School, and, when she eventually moved back to Rochester, as a professor of Rhetoric and English Literature at Bryant & Stratton College.

Marguerite Murray Lavigne, 95, of Cohoes, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019. She was born and educated in Cohoes. Mrs. Lavigne was a school crossing guard for over 32 years. She was a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne, Marconi Club Auxiliary, Senior Citizen Bowling League, Cohoes Senior Citizen and Silver Tops.

Virginia "Ginny" Wilber was born in Georgia and died on May 28, 2019, at the age of 88, in Salisbury, NC. Ginny was a devoted teacher's aide in the Schenectady Albany Schoharie BOCES program and an enthusiastic church and community volunteer.

On June 13, 2019, Don Whitlock, 83, of Altamont, died at home  Don taught high school English in both Tupper Lake and Lake Placid. He moved to Albany bringing his family to live in the city while he completed his masters' degree. During those two years of study, he worked in the Student Financial Aid office resulting in an offer to fill the position of director when it became vacant, a job he held until retirement.

Candace Marie Schaperjahn (Candy Forte), 66, of Galway, NY passed June 14, 2019. Candy was an English teacher at Fort Edward High School for 34 years and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.

Roberta "Bobbie" Beach, 89, of Colonie, passed away on June 12, 2019 in Gloversville, NY. She worked several jobs while raising a family including the Niskayuna school district, McKesson Chemical and spent 20+ years at the state of NYS Department of Criminal Justice until her retirement.

Evelyn Meyers Currie, known to her friends as Evvie, 95, of Burnt Hills, NY, died on June 6, 2019. Evvie taught vocal music and was the choral director at all levels from kindergarten through college during 30 years of teaching in Rochester, Schenectady, Ballston Spa, Scotia, Detroit, MI, and Somers, NY. She retired in June 1985 from the Somers school district. 

Theresa Lezzi, 87, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019. Born in Schenectady, she worked for the Schenectady School District as a teacher's aide and also as a secretary to the principal at several Schenectady schools before retiring after 30 years of service.

Dorothy Jean Gatzendorfer, 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Born in West Glenville, NY on May 31, 1936, Jean was a bus driver for Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Schools and also worked in the cafeteria. She enjoyed fishing and was an avid Yankee fan.

Ruth E. (Van Zandt) Wege, 96, of Rotterdam, died May 30, 2019. She started her teaching career at Middleburgh Central School, where she taught from 1944 - 1950. She returned to teaching in 1958 at Woodlawn School in Schenectady, until her retirement in 1978. 

Johnathan M. Priess of Brooklyn, New York, died May 20, 2019. Mr. Priess was born in Schenectady on March 26, 1960. At the time of his death, Jonathan was employed by the New York City Education Department as a school social worker. Before that he worked for Henry Street Settlement House in Manhattan. His years as a guidance counselor at Brooklyn Preparatory High School were his most rewarding.

Catherine I. McKay, 75, formerly of Galway, New York, passed away on May 16, 2019. At Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, she was part of the surgical nursing division and served as a nursing instructor. Later in her life, she left nursing for teaching, becoming an elementary school teacher in Galway Central School district from 1994-2004, where she helped to pioneer multi-age classrooms of first and second grade students.

Patricia R. St. Peter, 63, of Johnstown, died June 2nd, 2019. Patti was born in Gloversville on October 23, 1955. Patti spent 27 years employed by the Greater Johnstown School District as a secretary before her retirement in 2018.

Priscilla M. "Penny" Butler, 83, of Albany, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019. After obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at SUNY New Paltz, Penny started her 31-year teaching career at the North Colonie School District where she was a dedicated Art Teacher.

Mary Elizabeth Stry, 91,  of Schaghticoke, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019. Born in Delmar on November 19, 1927, she had a long career as a teacher. She taught most of her career in the Hoosic Valley Central School System. 

Boyles, David Alan - On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Dave passed away. Dave was born in 1944 in Long Beach, Calif. and later moved to The Dalles, Ore., where he taught music and elementary school. Dave and his wife moved to Brunswick in 2004 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Bessie Lee Arcolano, 79 of Altamont, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019. Born on September 3, 1939, in Flatwoods, La., Bessie had lived in Altamont since 1957. She worked for Guilderland Central School District for over 30 years prior to her retirement.

Elizabeth A. Gargiulo DiCaprio, 82, of Amsterdam, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. She taught music in Gloversville,Tribes Hill, and Fonda-Fultonville. Lastly, she taught fourth and fifth grade reading at Fonda-Fultonville from 1974 until her retirement in 1995. She was an adjunct professor, teaching Children's Literature at Fulton-Montgomery Community College from 1990-1996.

Earle Dennis Kipp (Dennis or Denny to his friends) of Saratoga Springs died at the age of 71 on Saturday, May 11, 2019. He was born on August 7, 1947, in Schenectady. After a tenure of over three decades in the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, Dennis retired in 2002.

Elizabeth "Betty" Ada (Martin) Cardin, 90, of Halfmoon, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019. In later years, after her children were all in school, she was a secretary in the guidance office at the Shenendehowa School District.

Joseph D. Baciewicz, 66, of Schenectady, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019. After several years teaching at Saratoga Catholic Central High, Joe joined the Niskayuna High School faculty where he taught math and computer science for more than 33 years.

Joan Holtermann, 86, of Alplaus, NY, passed away Friday evening, May 17, 2019. After raising her family, Joan spent many years working in special education in the Niskayuna School District. Joan  served as Union Chapter President for several years.

Bonnie J. Ellis, 77, of Otselic Valley, died on May 11, 2019. Bonnie was born on February 28, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio. Bonnie spent the majority of her teaching career in Otselic Valley Central School District in New York State.

Mathew Vincent Cunningham, born May 16, 1985, passed away in Las Vegas on May 20, 2019. He attended Schenectady Schools, played football and was in the Band. He received his degree in Phys. Ed. and taught in Las Vegas. 

Marjorie Dow, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida, and formerly of Latham, passed away May 14, 2019. Marge will be best remembered for a rewarding 34-year career in education, mostly as a first grade teacher at Southgate School in the North Colonie School District. She retired in 1993.

Flora M. Aiello, 96, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Flora taught social studies in the Castleton School District. In addition, she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for European Tile Company and later, Joseph Aiello and Sons.

 Joan E. Taylor, 86, of East Greenbush, died on Thursday, May 16, 2019.  Joan resided in Bedford, N.Y. for a number of years where she was an elementary teacher in the Bedford School District.

Ley, Ronald - Experimental psychologist and professor emeritus at SUNY Albany died May 10, 2019. He was cofounder and past president of the International Society for the Advancement of Respiratory Psychophysiology, and held membership and leadership roles in numerous psychological organizations.

Raymond Ferguson, 74, of Ocala, Fla., previously from Latham, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Ray served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-1970. He worked as a mechanic at the North Colonie School District Transportation Department prior to his retirement in 2003.

Marjorie A. Benedict, 90, of Albany, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019. Marjorie taught French at Emma Willard School, Troy. She later received her second master's degree in library science from SUNY Albany and worked there as a librarian until her retirement, at the age of 78.

Edward R. Cepiel, 77, of Cohoes, died Sunday, May 19, 2019. He taught Physics, Biology and Science for 40 years at Troy High School, retiring in 2003. While teaching at Troy High School he was the head coach for Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track for 35 years. He was a licensed barber, barbering in college and beyond during his summers off from school and later full time after retiring from teaching. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army and attained the rank of Captain prior to his discharge. 

Sherry Penney and James Livingston, well-known for their exceptional accomplishments while living in Massachusetts, passed away last week, the middle of May, 2019, at their Florida home. They were overcome by carbon monoxide from a car with a keyless ignition system. Dr. Penney, 81, was chancellor of UMass Boston and the first female vice chancellor in the SUNY system (64 campuses and 400,000 students) as Vice Chancellor for Academic Programs, Policy and Planning. She was Associate Provost at Yale University from 1976 to 1982. 

Francesca (Mastroianni) Corcione, 64, of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Born in Pianopoli, Italy, she moved to Schenectady when she was 13. She worked as a hairdresser for over forty years and worked at Forest Park in the South Colonie School District as a Teacher's Aid. 

Jill L. Hotaling, 75, of  Schoharie, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Jill taught 6th grade at Duanesburg from 1969 to 1972 when she chose to be a stay-at-home mom raising her family and would later return to teaching at area schools, retiring in 2003.

Ivan Ray Becker, 82, of Richmondville, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019. He received his education at local schools and worked as a farmer, truck driver and for the former Klien Industries in Cobleskill. He also did carpentry part time along with working at SUNY Cobleskill in Maintenance, retiring after 20 years of service. 

Janice N. Wysocki, 72, of Albany, passed away in Dunedin, Fla. on February 3, 2019. She was a devoted teacher of mathematics and computer science at Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville for 35 years.

Anthony "Tony" Frank, 73, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019. Born in Albany, Tony taught in the Shenendehowa School District for 34 years and was the President of the Shenendehowa Teachers Association as well as the Fullbright Scholar to India ('73 and '93) and Mexico ('90). Tony wrote for the Schenectady Gazette focusing on current events and worldly matters.

Mae Burgess, 86, of Niskayuna, went into the arms of the Lord Friday, May 10, 2019. She started her career as an engineering assistant at General Electric in Schenectady. She retired from Niskayuna Central Schools, where she worked as a computer operator for the business office. Mae loved to sing. She sang for many years in the St. Kateri Tekawitha choir and the Choraliers of Schenectady.

Lisa Barbolt Prosser, 59, of Clifton Park, died on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born in Troy on July 14, 1959, Lisa was at one time employed by Stillwater Central Schools and also the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation & Finance.

Arlene Gollmer, 80, of Glenville, passed away May 11, 2019. Born in Oneonta, NY, she worked for many years for the Schenectady School System as an Elementary Teacher, retiring in 2001. Her last 15 years working were spent at the Van Corlaer School.

Florence T. Reedy, 90, of Galway, passed away May 12, 2019. She worked for GE for 15 years as an electrical and mechanical draftsman. She was active in Dairyman's League Cooperative Association, National Milk Federation and American Institute of Cooperatives, traveling to half of the United States to work on some of their programs. Florence drove school bus for 10 years.

Federico Saburro, 92, of Rotterdam, passed away May 9, 2019. Freddie enlisted in the Navy with the members of his baseball team on January 29, 1945. All 14 returned home safely after the war. He was camera operator, crew chief, lighting director and jack of all trades behind the scenes at WRGB- the first television station in the nation. He joined the union when he began there in 1952 and was a tireless champion of NABET Local 21 and the national union. Freddie often held more than two jobs and was most fond of his teaching job at Woodlawn Middle School.

Lenore Elizabeth Smith, 93, of Delmar, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Lenore worked for New York State. After retiring in 1981, Lenore and her husband moved to Florida. She started a second career with the Palm Beach School District. She worked there for over 20 years as a classroom aide.

Bertie Mae Mang, 83, of Stillwater, left this world May 3, 2019. She was a long-time resident of Stillwater, N.Y. She worked as a school bus driver for the Stillwater Central School District for 25 years. She served as the Court Clerk for the town and village for 27 years.

Warren H. Kuchenbecker Jr. "Renny," 70, of East Poestenkill, passed away April 22, 2019, in Nokomis, Fla. Renny had been employed at the Troy City School district, where he taught industrial arts/technology before retiring at the age of 55.

Thomas A. Gauvin, 50, of New Middletown, Ohio, passed away March 29, 2019. Born on December 3, 1968, in Albany, Tom was a combat engineer for the U.S. Army in Desert Storm. He graduated from The College of Saint Rose and was teaching in Cleveland, Ohio at the Michael R. White Stem School at the time of his death.

Marion F. Fitch, 92, of Cohoes, died on May 2, 2019. Born in Cohoes, she was a lifelong resident. Marion was employed by Folmsbees for 18 years as a bus monitor. She was a former member of the Cohoes Moose Club.

Eileen J. Callahan, 74, of Albany, passed away May 2, 2019.  Throughout of her adult life, she was a dedicated elementary school teacher having taught in Stillwater Central School District and the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese. She taught fifth grade at St. Casmir's School in Albany, for many years.

Marjorie Ruth Natale, 86, of Schenectady, died Monday, May 6th, 2019. Marjorie worked for the General Electric Company for 6 years as a Billing Clerk. She also worked for the Schenectady City School System, working in Grout Park Elementary, and Steinmetz Junior High schools. She then went on to work in the position of Senior Library Clerk, at Schenectady Public Library, where she retired after 20 years of service. 

Dorothy J. Hutson Wygant Ingebritsen, 88, of East Greenbush, died Monday, May 6, 2019. Born in Albany,  Dorothy was passionate about education, especially for women. She enjoyed a successful career teaching home economics at Columbia High School and gained statewide and national recognition for her leadership in high school curriculum.

Raymond E. Benenson, 93, died May 5, 2019. Employment included Brookhaven National Laboratory, City College of New York and part-time research at Columbia University. Ray joined SUNY Albany in 1967 and later earned an award for Excellence in Teaching. 

Lawrence D. Marshall, 87, of Halfmoon, died on April 30, 2019. Born in Stillwater on August 6, 1931, he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 - 1955 as part of the 4th Mountain Division. He worked for 21 years at the former WESVACO Paper Co until its closure in 1971. He then worked as a bus driver for the Shenendehowa School District for 30 years and finished his working career as a groundskeeper for the Town of Halfmoon.

Katherine Marion Briscoe, 97, of Scotia, passed away April 29, 2019. Kay worked for several years at the General Electric Company but ultimately retired from the Mohonasen Central School District where she began work as a school secretary in 1956.

Donald W. Petersen of Scotia died Friday May 3, 2019. Don was born on July 16, 1931 in Schenectady and retired from the Village of Scotia – Department of Public Works. Prior to working for the village he worked for the Scotia-Glenville School District in the Maintenance Department. 

Anne L. Peterson, 93, of Niskayuna, died on March 19, 2019. She taught Latin, French and English at Middleburgh Central School and, later, Latin, French, German, and English in Niskayuna at the junior high and high school levels.

Maria Maynard, 56, of Ballston Lake, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019. She was a teacher at the Glen Worden Elementary School in Glenville, NY.

Robert J. Tassi, 83, of Mechanicville, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Bob began his working career as a math teacher for Mechanicville Junior High School, and was a junior varsity basketball and assistant football coach. He later worked for New York State for 28 years.

Thomas F. Koch, 66, of Albany, entered Eternal Life Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born in Albany, he worked as a teacher in San Diego, Calif., Lansingburg, Troy and BOCES of Rensselaer.

Eileen C. Jones, of Rensselaer, passed away May 5, 2019. She taught math at St. Mary and St. Casmir's Schools before joining the Rensselaer City School District in 1984.

Anne M. (Palmieri) Bielkiewicz, 68, of Clifton Park and Naples, Fla., passed away April 26, 2019. She taught Social Studies at Cohoes High School for 32 years, regularly sharing stories about her students, many of whom affectionately referred to her as 'Mrs. B'.

Marjorie Ann Kirkland Deacon, 87, of Averill Park, died Thursday, April 25, 2019. Upon graduating from college, she worked as a physical therapist for several years. Mrs. Deacon was a retired teacher for the Little Red Schoolhouse on Route 4 in North Greenbush.

Christopher M. Daly, 43, of Malta, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Christopher was a lifelong learner, a Ph.D. candidate, and instructor of history at The University at Albany.

Pauline Felack Storonsky of Latham entered into eternal rest April 27, 2019. Pauline was born on July 10, 1927, in Maplewood. She taught science and math in the Colonie and Niskayuna school districts and took time out of her teaching career to raise her four children.

Nancy T. Frate, 76, of Selkirk, died on April 28, 2019. Nancy had a distinguished career as a special education teacher with Watervliet City Schools. 

Janet Taylor Munger, 92, passed away April 20, 2019. She worked as an executive secretary to the president of the American Association of Advertising Agencies in Manhattann NY, and in later years, in the testing department of Scotia-Glenville Schools.

Richard L. Bartis, 89, of Troy, died Monday, April 15, 2019. Dick served in the U.S. Navy. He was a physical education teacher for the Troy School District for 28 years. Dick was well known as a coach and official for several sports including football, basketball and swimming. He also taught swim lessons across New York State through the Learn to Swim Program and the American Red Cross.

Carol A. Dziamba, of Colonie, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019. Carol graduated from SUNY Albany, receiving both her bachelor's and master's degree. She started her teaching career at Philip Schuyler High School and retired from Albany High School. 

John A. Rathjens, 87, of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He taught for 32 years in the Bethlehem Central School District as a physical education teacher and later as a guidance counselor.

Ivan Lawson, 91, of New Scotland, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019. Ivan was a graduate of Buffalo Teachers College and received his master's degree from SUNY at New Paltz in art. He went on to teach elementary school for 18 years at Slingerlands and Clarksville Elementary Schools.

Jane T. Caruvana, 82, of Glenville, passed away April 24, 2019. After college, she began her career at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Mass. In 1973, she moved to the Capital district. For 20 years, Jane was a teacher for the visually impaired at B.O.C.E.S.

Marion Drury Baker, 86, of Clifton Park, died Wednesday, April 24, 2019.  She retired in 1995 from the Shenendehowa Central School District in Clifton Park where she had been a music teacher. Earlier, she had taught in the Mechanicville School District.

Frances Theresa Eastman, 91, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019. She was a Math teacher in Henderson, New York and at Draper School in Rotterdam, won the RPI Medal, attended RPI, and Albany College for Teachers (now SUNY Albany) and SUNY Oswego.

Sue Ann Hoogkamp Rodgers died in Silver Spring, Md., on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Born on March 15, 1934, she taught second grade at Green Meadow Elementary in East Greenbush for over 10 years. She later volunteered as a tutor at Bell Top School in the East Greenbush School District.

Denise Fitzpatrick, 60, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Denise was an insurance claims supervisor at Prudential Insurance for over 25 years. Her most recent job was caring for kids as a recess monitor in the Ballston Spa school district, at the Malta Avenue school.

Teresa "Dolly" Farinacci, 92, of Stuyvesant, died Friday, April 19, 2019. She was co-owner and co-operator of the Stuyvesant Press and worked several years and at one point was supervisor of the kitchen/cafeteria at Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie.

Barbara Frances Cooney (Stolz) passed away on April 20, 2019. Barbara devoted her professional life to the children of the Bellevue Hospital School in Manhattan, where she worked first as a teacher and then as an assistant principal. In 2005, she retired and moved to Valatie.

Carl E. Calvin, 93, of Philmont, died on April 20, 2019. Carl held teaching positions in Bar Harbor, Maine, Greenport, L.I., and Sharon Springs, N.Y. before relocating to Philmont in 1962 as elementary principal at Ockawamick Central School, which later became part of the Taconic Hills School District, from which he retired in 1983.

Jamie Lynn Gallagher DeCanio died April 17, 2019, at the age of 68. Jamie taught preschool children with special needs for over 30 years with Capital District Beginnings.

Debra "Debbie" Ann Civitello, 70, of Schenectady passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Debbie pursued a dedicated and longtime career as a Culinary Teacher with the Schenectady City School District. 

Jane Golub, 80, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Jane taught at Hillside Elementary School in the Niskayuna Central School District from its opening day in 1963 until 1986, when her husband, Neil, asked her to take a sabbatical to help him bring the Anti-Defamation League's prejudice awareness and reduction program, "A World of Difference," to schools in the Capital Region.

Alfonzo Henderson, 89, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019. He was a teacher for the Greater Amsterdam School District for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the U.S Army Reserves from 1955 until 1989, retiring with the rank of Colonel.

Nancy Jane Greene Jonas of Laguna Woods, CA (formerly of Schenectady, NY), died April 10, 2019. A much loved elementary school teacher, who taught for many years at the Veeder School in the South Colonie School District, Nancy was a free and generous spirit with a keen intellect whose passions included gardening, world travel, gourmet dining and art.

Mary E. Unser, 71, of Averill Park, died on Saturday April 14, 2019. Mary worked for 42 years at the State University of Albany and retired as the Reading Department secretary.

Walter F. Wehnau, 91, of North Greenbush, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Walter retired from the Maintenance Department of Hudson Valley Community College.

Carol A. Decker, 66, of East Nassau, passed away April 15, 2019. She worked as a library assistant for the New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School for 22 years.

Gertrude Triller, 92, passed away April 16, 2019. After employment as an elementary school teacher in Boston, she went on a great adventure. She traveled by ship to Japan where she served as a recreational director with the 8th Army Special Services during the Korean War. She worked with special needs children at O.D. Heck Developmental Center in Schenectady, and later with the Head Start Program for children in Rutland, Vt. She also taught at Sunshine Nursery School in Proctor, Vt. in the early eighties.

Anne W. Teiper, 77, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019. Anne began her career as an educator in Pittsford, NY, teaching 2nd Grade. Upon moving to the Albany area, she began teaching for the South Colonie School District at Shaker Road Elementary. She later worked at the Town of Colonie Community Day Care, retiring in 1998.

Richard F. Matteo, 73, of Ballston Lake, entered eternal life Thursday, April 18, 2019. Richard was a long-time social studies teacher at the South Colonie Central School District before changing his career path and eventually retiring as a sales director at Data General - EMC in Albany.

Marie E. Riley Spaulding, 74, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019. In 2007, Marie retired from the R-C-S Transportation Department after 12 years of service and prior to that was a loving and caring foster parent for over 20 years to disabled and children in need.

Dorothy Ann Thornton passed away Friday, April 12, 2019. She taught remedial reading and math at Giffen Elementary School for 30 years until she retired in 1993.

Anita L. Barnes, 81 of Castleton, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019. Anita was a hairdresser for 20 years and a bus aide for Maple Hill High School for several years.

Denny J. Empie passed away April 11, 2019. Denny taught junior high physical education in Scotia-Glenville Central School District, retiring in 2002. He coached several sports teams and taught drivers' education.

Florence E. Graham, 95, died Friday, April 12, 2019. Florence taught business at the former Draper High School and was Chair of the Business Education Department. She was also an adjunct professor at SCCC and SUNY Albany.

Florence Mary "Flit" McElligott, 80, passed away April 6, 2019. Flit taught primarily in the Niskayuna school system as a librarian.


Carmela M. Ragozzino, 83, entered into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday April 9, 2019. Carmela worked at Ellis Hospital and in later years for the Schenectady City School District.


James Richard Flanders passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019. His early teaching career was at Greene County Correctional where he taught GED prep classes for incarcerated youth. He has worked as an English teacher in the Saratoga Springs City School District for the past ten years.

Marie Schoonmaker McManama passed away April 8, 2019. She was born on July 10, 1932, in Berne, where she resided for a lifetime. Marie was employed by The Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District for 52 years (its longest employee,) where she worked as both the high school and elementary school secretary.
Marie Bigsby, 69, of Albany, entered eternal life April 10, 2019. She began her dedicated career in education as a middle school English teacher in Herkimer, N.Y. Then in 2004 she finished her 33 years of teaching in Cherry Valley, N.Y.

Helen M. Ryan, 90, of Colonie, passed on April 8, 2019. Helen was an elementary school teacher in the South Colonie School District until her retirement. She and her husband, Bud, were bowlers for many years in the old S. Colonie Colonial (Employees and Friends) Bowling League at Town N Country Lanes on Route 20 in Guilderland.

Margaret Augusta Rauffer Vogel, 88, of Delmar, formerly of Columbia County, passed away March 31, 2019. Margaret devoted her entire professional career to teaching children in Connecticut, and Redwood, Ancram, Copake, Roe Jan (Taconic Hills School District) in New York State.

Effie I. Piacente, 87, of Waterford, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019. Born in Troy she was employed for 26 years at Waterford Halfmoon High School and retired in 1995. In her earlier years she was employed at White Motor Co. in Albany and then International Harvester.

Henry Thomas Maddalone, 77, of Glenville, N.Y., passed away on April 9, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 17, 1941, Henry was first employed as a history teacher at Franklin Schools (WV) and coached football. Hank later started H.T. Construction, which specialized in remodeling.

Mary Anne Kot, 62, of Schenectady, passed away April 7, 2019. Born on February 13, 1957 in Albany, NY, she was a teacher at Hamilton Elementary in Schenectady for 30 years.

Vivian Coonan, 95, a longtime resident of Schenectady, died on April 3, 2019. She was born March 26, 1924  and was raised on the family farm in Pittstown. Upon graduation from college she taught in the Richfield Springs and Schenectady school districts as an elementary school teacher

David J. Beals, 71, of Ballston Spa, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019. Born in Niskayuna, NY on February 12, 1948, David began his career as a chef at the Ripe Tomato Restaurant. He was a long haul tractor trailer driver and later drove school bus for Ballston Spa Central Schools for many years, retiring in 2006.

Donna Bashor Bundy, 74, of Schenectady,  passed away on April 6, 2019. She began her teaching career in Pennsylvania, and then dedicated herself to 28 years of teaching the children of Niskayuna when she moved to New York, totaling a 40 year career. Although she taught all grades, she found her calling as a first grade teacher at Birchwood School.

Shirley J. Williams, 75, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019. She was born in Schoharie on March 31, 1944 but lived most of her life in Schenectady. She was a cook for the Schenectady City School District and a foster parent for the Capital District. 

On April 3, 2019, Mrs. Lucy Sneed DeNuzzo, 96, passed away. She resided over half a century in East Greenbush, NY and was born in Hot Coal (Raleigh County), WV. She was raised in the town of Matoaka and went on to become a public high school teacher in both her home state and the state of New York, teaching English, typing, shorthand, and business arithmetic. 

James E. LaPosta, Sr., 86, former Speigletown resident, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019. Born in Troy,  James served in the United States Naval Reserve as LTJG on active duty for three years. He was employed for 30 years in the Lansingburgh School District as a Junior High Math teacher and Math Department Chairman, retiring in 1988. 

Margaret DeJohn, of Cohoes, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Born in Albany, Margaret was a teacher for over 30 years at Niskayuna Middle School, primarily teaching eighth grade, until her retirement in 1989.

Shirley M. Schadow, 93, of Schenectady, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019. Born in Amesbury, Massachusetts on February 6, 1926, she started teaching at Kings Highway School in 1952 in West Springfield, MA. Later, Shirley taught for the Ballston Spa School District at Malta Avenue and Rock City Falls.

Susan J. Cusano, 62, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019. Sue was born in Framingham, MA on July 8, 1956. Sue first worked at General Electric Company. She returned to work in later years for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District.

 John Clark Civill, of New Baltimore, went to be with his Lord on April 1, 2019, at the age of 76. John taught math in the Coxsackie-Athens school district from 1964 until his retirement in June 1998. John spent 15 years in his "retirement" working at Matchless Stove and Chimney in Glenmont.

Irwin Weinstein, 90, of Albany, passed away on March 13, 2019. During 33 years of service for the New York City Board of Education, he served as a teacher, teacher in charge, assistant principal, and principal of PS 151K in Brooklyn, the last of these jobs from 1974 through his retirement in 1990. He then worked as children's librarian for ten years, for the Queens Borough Public Library.

Lawrence J. Mulvaney, 95, of Schenectady, died Tuesday, March 26, 2019. He served in the U. S. Marines during World War II. After the war, he began his work as teacher and coach at Agawam (Massachusetts) High School. The next year he accepted a job offer from the Schenectady City School District to work at Mont Pleasant High School, coaching and teaching until his retirement in 1989.

Ann Jeffers Petrovich, 88, longtime resident of Barefoot Bay, FL and Scotia, NY, passed away March 28, 2019. Ann was born in Schenectady on January 10, 1931. For many years, she worked for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District as a bus driver. 

James Schuyler Carnrite, 93, of Blacksburg, Va., died March 16, 2019. He was born in Ft. Plain, N.Y. After high school graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps 2nd Division during World War II. He worked most of his career as a public school superintendent in New York State. 

Grace P. Thornton, 87, of Colonie, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019. Born in Albany, she especially enjoyed her time working at Sand Creek Middle School, where she made many friends. She will be dearly missed.

Kay Ingalls Sutton, 53, of Rensselaerville, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019. Kay taught kindergarten and first grade in Cairo-Durham Central Schools for the past 30 years. In 2006, Kay was in charge of an "Odyssey of the Mind" team.

Ann Elizabeth (Merrill) Stressel, 88, of Guilderland, passed away March 22, 2019. The family moved to Guilderland in 1967. She worked at Guilderland Central Schools and BOCES for over 20 years. 

Bobbi M. Cook, 82, of Rensselaer, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019. Born in Hokkaido, Japan, June 27, 1937, Bobbi was a food service worker for the State University at Albany for many years before retiring in 2014.

Mary Louise (Dinneen) Meehan, 93, of Albany, died March 27, 2019. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps and attended Russell Sage College. She worked at Albany Medical Center as a registered nurse and clinical instructor at its school of nursing from 1946-1957. She also worked as an R.N. at Memorial Hospital, St. Anne's Institute and for South Colonie Schools. 

Dian Marie Dunn Dippold, 73, of Rexford, died Saturday, March 30, 2019. She was an incredibly talented pianist and was well-known locally for her musical abilities. After teaching in several school districts around the area, she finally settled into the education community at Waterford-Halfmoon, and taught full time there until becoming a mother, and then as a substitute teacher for many years thereafter.

Todd Gerard Collet Sr., 53, of Waterford, passed away Friday March 29, 2019. Born in Burlington, Vt., he had been employed at the Shenendehowa School District for the past two years. Prior to that, he was employed as a manager at Janitronics Inc. in Albany and Uno Restaurant in Latham. 

Martin B. Cohen, 81, passed away at Falls Church, Virginia on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Born in Albany, Martin was an educator throughout his career. He began as a teacher at Giffen Elementary and Hackett Middle School in the Albany City System. He would later become a professor of American history at George Mason University for more than 35 years until his retirement.

Maude E. Wilson, 100, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 in Miami, FL. Born in Batchellerville, NY on June 22, 1918, Maude worked the sound controls at WRGB in Schenectady during WWII, but her true vocation was being an elementary school teacher and reading specialist at the Draper School in Rotterdam, NY for over 20 years. 

Wayne George Skala, 64, passed away March 25, 2019. He proudly defended his country in the Air Force from 1975 to 1980. Wayne worked for many years as an engineer for SUNY Albany. He was an honorary life member of the Thomas Corners Fire Department.

Rosemary Flagler (Micari), 77, died  Sunday, March 24, 2019. Born in Albany, she was a graduate of Albany High School, and The College of Saint Rose. Rosemary was a teacher in many area elementary schools, retiring from the Albany Public School district in 1996. 

Doris M. Ehrlich, 87, of Troy, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019. After several years as a stay at home mom, she returned to work as secretary to the assistant superintendent at the Enlarged City School District of Troy, then to the superintendent for many years.

Barbara (Adams) Duffy, 79, of Rochester, passed away on March 15, 2019. Barb spent most of her career involved in the school community. She was a substitute teacher at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Central Valley, N.Y., and a secretary at Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar, N.Y.

Lynn Buck, 87, of Clifton Park, formerly of Colonie, passed away on the first day of Spring, Wednesday, March 20, 2019. Lynn was employed as a substitute teacher in the South Colonie School District and worked in the library at Colonie Central High School. She also worked as an exam proctor for the N.Y.S. Education Department. 

David Flege Thomson, 75, of Liberty, NY, died March 12, 2019. After two years of active service in the Army, one including Vietnam service with a Bronze Star award, David returned to begin an over forty year career in College Student Affairs at Gettysburg College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Central Ohio Technical College, the Newark Campus of the Ohio State University, and Sullivan County Community College.


Frances E. Wright, 98, formerly of Waterford, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2019, in Chapel Hill, N.C. During World War II, she worked at the Watervliet Arsenal as a technician inspecting and calibrating shell casings. She was later employed as a secretary at both Waterford High School and the Waterford Water Works.

Richard Suprunowicz, 91, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Dick served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Dick then began his career in education, first working for the Schenectady School District at Central Park Junior High teaching math and science. He then went to work at Mont Pleasant High School teaching math and coaching basketball, golf, tennis, and bowling. He continued on to Linton High School as a math teacher and retired as Assistant Principal in 1984.

Frederick A. Guay, 82, of Richmondville, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Frederick joined the United States Marines in 1953 and served his country before being honorably discharged in 1956. After graduating from college, Frederick worked at SUNY Cobleskill as an Instructional Support Technician for 33 years, retiring in 1995. 

Paul Volk, 91, of Scotia, passed away March 12, 2019. Paul served in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman. Following college graduation, Paul started teaching phys ed at Wheelerville School in Caroga Lake. He then moved to Boston where he began teaching and coaching in the Lincoln-Sudbury Schools. Paul taught and coached at Schalmont High School for the rest of his teaching career. Paul was extremely proud of his past co-ownership of Sherman's Caroga Lake Amusement Park and Morris Foodarama.

Dennis T. (Tom) Connelly, 89, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, in Greenville, South Carolina. Tom had a long career in education in Schenectady, including serving as Principal of both Elmer Avenue and Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools. Later in his career, Tom moved into senior administrative roles with the Schenectady City School District.

Ann Noonan Reilly, 62, lifelong resident of Stillwater, died March 10, 2019. Born in Troy, Annie was a 1974 graduate of Stillwater High School. Most recently, Annie worked for the Stillwater School District as a teacher's aide.

Richard "Dick" Stipano, 76, of Ballston Spa, passed away on March 9, 2019, at his winter home in Aiken, S.C. After college, he taught in Binghamton, returning to the area to teach at Mechanicville City Schools for the next 39 years. He was the Mechanicville Red Raiders Varsity football, and boys/girls track coach for many years. Following his passion for football, he was a coach for the Albany Metro Mallers, R.P.I., the LaSalle Institute, and HVCC, ending his coaching career at Stillwater Central Schools.

On March 8, 2019 Sylvia Aufiero Matousek, 76, of DeWitt, died. Born and raised in Ballston Spa, Sylvia was a teacher in the North Syracuse Central School District for 46 years. She taught at Lakeshore Road Elementary School and Gillette Road Middle School. She was a well-known and respected labor leader, who worked as an activist all of her adult life. President of the North Syracuse Education Association for 37 years, she also served on the NYSUT Board of Directors for 20 years. She led a teachers strike in 1976, for which she and five local leaders served a ten day sentence in Jamesville Penitentiary. It continues to be the only teacher's strike in Onondaga County.

Henry John Muller, 90, of Ballston Lake,  passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Henry served in the military during the Korean War. Henry began his teaching career at Albany High School. After receiving his master's degree, he became assistant superintendent for business in the Mohonasen School District. 

Mary E. (Joy) Button, 89, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, died March 7, 2019. She most recently was employed at the Brittonkill Central School District.

Angeline Cacchillo, 75, of Schenectady, passed away March 4, 2019. She was a Foreign Language Teacher at Mohonasen High School from 1965 to 1998. 

Thomas James Powers, 84, of Ballston Spa, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019. He started his career as a math professor at Union College and then worked for 30 years as a professor and eventual chair of the math department at Columbia Greene Community College, retiring in 1998.

Timothy P. Andi of Colonie passed away March 3, 2019. Tim worked for the City of Albany for 38 years until his retirement in 2017. More important to him, he spent years on the ball field. It's where his passion for coaching was experienced by hundreds of baseball players for over 25 years at Schenectady County Community College.

Susanne Mustico Dorr, 65, of Glenville, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019. She was employed for many years by the Greater Amsterdam School District as a classroom Reading Specialist and administrator.

William H. Carow, 89, of Clifton Park, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought in the Korean War. In 1955 he began a 35 year career in education. He retired from the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District in 1985 after serving as Chairman of the Guidance Department and then spent 5 years in the Admissions Office at Siena College.

Roberta A. Pecora, 67, of Schenectady, passed away February 14, 2019. Roberta's love of music and children led her to a career in education in Schenectady parochial and public schools, notably at Lincoln Elementary.

Elizabeth "Beth" (Terpening) McMullen of Jericho, Vermont, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019. Beth taught English and reading in the Schalmont School District for several years before deciding to acquire a degree in nursing.

Nancy J. Johnson, 76, of Castleton, died Sunday, February 24, 2019. Nancy was born in Albany. She was a nurse for Albany Medical Center, Rensselaer City Schools and Bendix Laboratories in Albany.

Louise Irene (Hampton) Lewis, 86, of Scotia, NY, died on March 1, 2019. Louise was born July 4th, 1932 in Long Branch, NJ. She was a registered nurse and taught at Ellis Hospital in the Capital Region BOCES program.

Michael E. Goddard, 80, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away February 19, 2019. After high school, he purchased his father’s dairy farm and managed it for 25 years. He moved to upstate New York where he owned a dairy farm, worked as a real estate agent, and drove buses for the Shenendehowa School District.

Claire Yatsevitch, 75, of Delmar, died February 3, 2019. Besides her synchronized swimming for many years, Claire and her husband were involved with the Red Cross WSI program and were instructors in the kids' and adult learn to swim programs at the Bethlehem Middle School.

Ernest D. Steck, 95, of Colonie, died Sunday, February 24, 2019. He joined the United States Army where he fought in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He taught in the public schools of Bridgeport, Conn. and Providence, R.I., before joining the faculty at The Albany Academy in 1953. 

Andrea L. Maynard, 77, formerly of Broadalbin, passed away Sunday February 17, 2019 in Phillipsburg, MO. She spent her life working as a teacher, beginning by teaching fourth grade, then high school sciences, and serving as a curriculum coordinator at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School. Mrs. Maynard also taught at Herkimer County BOCES.

Robert S. Burger, 82, of Glenville, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019. A veteran in the US Air Force, Bob served from 1953 to 1961. Bob was a Detective with the Schenectady Police Department, retiring in 1986. In his retirement years he worked at Wildwood Schools and drove a school bus for Niskayuna Schools.

Phyllis D. Anderson, 94, of Winchester, MA passed away February 21, 2019. A longtime resident of Ilion, NY, she relocated to Winchester in 2017 to live near family. She was employed as a librarian for the Rye Elementary Schools from 1947 to 1949 and the Buffalo Public Library from 1949 to 1951.

Paul E. Giemza, 66, died Sunday, February 17, 2019. He worked at the General Electric Company in Schenectady for over 25 years, until retiring. He also drove buses for several area school districts.

Mary Elizabeth Fontana, 56, found peace on February 17th, 2019. As her daughters grew, Mary worked in food service for the Westhill School District, immediately adjacent to to Syracuse, NY. In 2006 Mary's family moved to Glenville, NY. She worked for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District in food service, as a playground monitor, and as a teacher's aide helping elementary special education students.

Anne Darrel, 96, of Niskayuna, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019. For several years she worked at the University of Vermont in Burlington, as a Nursing Instructor, teaching medical and surgical nursing. In 1978 she was affiliated with the Carver Community Health Center in Schenectady. She was active in the community as Health Coordinator for the Head Start Health Program in Schenectady County.

Elizabeth "Betty" Jayne Crowley, 86, of Schenectady, died on February 19, 2019. She was born on June 10, 1932. She retired from the Schenectady City School District where she worked as an assistant librarian.

Robert D. Burgess, 88, of Niskayuna, passed away February 18, 2019. Mr. Burgess was born in New York City and came to Niskayuna in 1956, and worked for the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Subsequently he was the Head of Computer Operations at Mechanical Technology. He later joined the State University of New York at Albany computing center, retiring in 1995.

H. Fred Bartle, 87, of Albany, died Monday, February 18, 2019. After graduating from NYS College for Teachers (now University at Albany), Fred began his 30-year career teaching at SUNY Oswego. He was chair of the political science department three different times. 

Rita E. Hesler, 93, of Guilderland, passed away Sunday morning, February 10, 2019. Starting out in banking in Downtown Albany, she finished her career as a secretary in the District Offices for Guilderland Central Schools for over 15 years.

Karen G. Carey, 79, of Clifton Park, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019. Karen spent her career as a teacher on the Onondaga Indian Reservation for over 25 years.

Isaac G. Racela MD, 83, of Loudonville, entered into eternal life on Sunday, February 17, 2019. He was a well-known physician (general surgery) in the Capital District with his private practice in Troy and most recently worked at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Dr. Racela was also the former medical director for the Troy City School District.

Vincent "Vince" C. Liuzzi, 87, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away February 17, 2019. Vince joined the military, serving during the Korean War as an aircraft technician for five years. He was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal working in teaching and administrative positions, retiring after 38 years. Later, he taught as an adjunct professor at Hudson Valley Community College and LaSalle Institute in Troy.

Amy L. Pickett Haskins, 41, of Troy, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Amy graduated from VOTEC, where she received her certificate in horticulture. Amy also worked for N.Y.S. Education Department at SUNY as a library clerk II.

Ella E. Armstrong, 94, of Altamont, died on Sunday, February 17, 2019. Ella was a dental hygienist teacher for the Guilderland School District for many years, retiring in 1968.

Richard E. "Rit" Krosky, 68, at rest February 16, 2019. A lifelong area resident, Rit was born in Schenectady on January 12, 1951. He was a Police Officer for 23 years for the Town of Rotterdam. Rit was later employed by the Mohonasen School District for another 15 years where he was a security officer.

William J. Spence III "Bill", 78, of Voorheesville, passed away February 7, 2019. Known as a master of the hammered dulcimer, Bill is often credited with the folk instrument's revival in the 1970s. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency from 1962 to 1965. From 1965 to 1998 Bill worked as an audio-visual and computer graphics specialist at the State University of New York at Albany. 

Clara Provenzano, 85, of Colonie, passed away February 14, 2018. Born February 15, 1933 in Amantea, Italy, Clara and family migrated to the U.S. in 1966. She was employed by New York State (O.G.S), the University Heights Nursing Home and also by the Albany Public Schools. 

John Joseph "Jack" Brown, 76, passed away January 21, 2019 in Nashville, TN. In 1964 he joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to Columbia, South America. For two years, he worked with youth as a physical education teacher. Upon returning home, he was employed by Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth as a counselor after having worked at Schenectady City School District.

Gladys G. Howe, 97, of Westville and a native of Cooperstown, passed away Sunday night, February 10, 2019. Raised on the family farm, Gladys first attended a one room schoolhouse. She taught primary grades in the Bethlehem Center and Glenmont Elementary Schools in the Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar.

Lawrence H. Joyce, 84, of Cobleskill, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Larry was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1956 until 1958. Larry taught history at Watervliet City School District High School from 1961 until 1966. He then was a professor for many years at SUNY Cobleskill. He began this career as an assistant professor of economics and then moved into fulltime professor of sociology and history. In 2005, he retired as department chair for social sciences.

Madeline "Maddie" Benson, 100, of West Sand Lake, died Monday, February 11, 2019. Maddie was a fourth grade teacher for 30 years, most recently in the East Greenbush Central Schools. After retiring she developed a special literacy through the arts program and brought it into area elementary schools. 

Graham Duncan, 96, of Ithaca, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. After completing his doctorate in English, he taught for three years at Russell Sage College and thirty-five years at SUNY Oneonta.  He retired from full-time teaching in 1991.  His undergraduate education was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the 87th Infantry Division in Europe.

John Milton Gould, 73, of Valatie, died February 7, 2019. After 45 years of teaching history, John retired from the Chatham Central School District, having been recognized as the longest-serving teacher in the district.

Robert E. Pennock, 92, of North Greenbush, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019. Dr. Pennock was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the Associate Dean for Continuing Education at the Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, N.Y. Later, Dr. Pennock was Dean of the Sage Evening College and Professor of Philosophy for 18 years before his retirement in 1994.

Martha Ann Rasch Kissinger, 83, of Delmar, New York, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019. Her career in education began as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher in Sea Cliff, NY. Martha served as a Member of the Binghamton City School District Board of Education from 1980-1989 and President in 1987-1988. 

James L. Wikoff, 92, of Wynantskill, died Friday, February 8, 2019. Jim was a Professor of Business Law and Accounting at Hudson Valley Community College for 45 years, retiring 20 years ago and previously was at Lexington, MO Military Academy.

Ellen (Hall) Burke, 72, of Albany, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. Born and educated in Albany, Ellen worked at SUNY Albany for over 45 years and was the local and regional Chairperson for CSEA Women's Committee.

Jane Barnes, 88, of Malta and formerly of West Sand Lake, died Saturday, February 9, 2019. Mrs. Barnes worked several years at the West Sand Lake Elementary School in the library and as an aide and at the Sand Lake Town Library, retiring 30 years ago.

In loving memory of Raymond H.Werking Sr. who passed away 20 years ago today on February 12, 1999. He became known as 'Bus Driver Ray' because he drove a school bus for 46 consecutive years, a national record for longevity. In recognition, the East Greenbush School District Transportation Center was dedicated to him in 2003.

Kenneth R. Sharadin, Jr., 82, of Ballston Spa, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Ken was a printer by trade. He started his career at the Journal Press in Ballston Spa and later worked for Denton Publications, Acme Press, Saratoga Printing and the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE)  print shop, retiring in 1999.

Carol (Gormley) O'Brien, 67, of Niskayuna, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. Carol was a primary school teacher at St. Anthony's School and also a substitute teacher for many local elementary schools. She was the cheerleading coach at Niskayuna High School for many years.

Anne E. Rozniewski, 79, of Colonie, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. After retiring from New York State, Anne worked with the Colonie Youth Center morning and after school program at Veeder Elementary.

Barbara J. Orsini, 66, of Delmar, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019. From 1974 until her retirement in 2007, she taught at the Scott M. Ellis Elementary School in Greenville. She was instrumental in getting the Nature's Classroom program included in the school's curriculum.

David J. Buckley, 81, of Slingerlands, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. Born and educated in Albany, he served in the N.Y. National Guard right out of high school. Mr. Buckley retired as a bus driver for North Colonie Schools after 25 years of service.

Sylvia M. James, 73, of Niskayuna, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019.  A physical education teacher in the Niskayuna School District for over 30 years, Sylvia retired from Craig School. 

Doris L. Dyer, 55, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday evening February 2, 2019. Mrs. Dyer was a beloved Teaching Assistant at the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District for over 16 years. She served through the summer months as the Co-Director of the Perth Youth Commission for 7 years.

Alicegrace M. Cherko, of Rotterdam, passed the morning of February 5, 2019. As a special education aide at Schalmont Central Schools, she devoted herself to helping her students succeed. 

Josephine M. Zaremba, of Schenectady, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019. She worked for the General Electric Company for several years. She retired as a teacher's aide from the Schenectady City School District after 18 years of service.

John "Buddy" Salemme, 86, of Clifton Park passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He joined the Army, fought in Korea and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was the director of student services for a year at Hudson Valley Community College and then spent the next 32 years in Guidance at Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady.

John F. Galish, 78, of Saratoga, passed away Monday morning, February 4, 2019. He began his career teaching music in NYC and Long Island, then relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he was a Professor of music at Dalhousie University. He returned to upstate N.Y. where he built an award-winning music program at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and served administrative leadership roles in Whitesboro, St. Johnsville, Hadley-Luzerne, Fallsburg, and the Bergenfield, NJ, school district.

Richard C. O'Neil, 88, of Guilderland, died Friday, January 25, 2019. Dr. O'Neil initially taught at Rice University and then joined the University at Albany faculty, where he retired in 2006 having been professor of mathematics for 38 years.

Leonard Symansky, 88, of Delmar, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Dr. Symansky served as an assistant professor at The College of Saint Rose in Albany where he taught French until 1975. From 1977-1997, Dr. Symansky taught at Columbia-Greene Community College where he eventually became full professor of modern languages, including French, Spanish, Italian, German and Russian.

Paul J. Loatman Jr., 75, of Mechanicville, passed away Monday morning, February 4, 2019. A highly respected educator and Head of the Upper School at Doane Stuart for many years, Dr. Loatman had taught a variety of subjects. He was also an adjunct professor at Union College, SUNY Albany, Schenectady Community College, and The College of Saint Rose.

Erma Miner, 97, of Sun City Center, Florida,  passed away on January 17, 2019. She worked a few years teaching high school in the Albany area and then joined the family's insurance agency and worked there until she retired as the owner.

Bernice F. Knapp, 91, of East Greenbush, died Saturday, February 2, 2019. Bernice was born in Kingston and was the lunch lady for Rensselaer City Schools for 40 years before retiring at age 81.

Ramon O. Fuller, 83, of Guilderland, passed away on February 1, 2019. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for the Guilderland Central School District.

Conrad F. Bader, 82, formerly of Seward, died Monday, January 28, 2019. Conrad was a longtime teacher of mathematics and social studies at Sharon Springs Central School. He also was employed as a park ranger at Glimmerglass State Park in Cooperstown.

Irene DeBoer, 88, passed away on January 06, 2019. Upon college graduation in 1952, Irene accepted a teaching position in Grafton, MA. She later joined the Niskayuna School System as a substitute teacher. She stepped up to teaching full time and used her salary to fund the family's first trip to Europe.

William C. Burkart Sr., 81, of North Greenbush, died on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Born in Albany, Bill worked for the Albany Times Union for 42 years, retiring as a branch manager. He later worked as a bus driver for the East Greenbush Central School District, retiring in 2015.

Carol (Hines) Coleman, 83, of Guilderland, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019. After graduating from college she moved to Dillingham, Alaska and worked as a school teacher for five years. She returned to New York and taught for 35 years at Voorheesville Elementary, retiring in 2000.

Lucille F. Husarik, 93, of Watervliet, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019. Born in Cohoes, Lucille taught at St. Marie's School in Cohoes and Woburn Public School in Woburn, Mass. retiring in 1993. 

Cynthia A. Russell, 61, of Schenectady, passed away January 29, 2019. Born in New Hartford, NY, she worked in every role in student affairs at Schenectady County Community College for 30 years. She retired in 2017 as Associate Director of Financial Aid.

Jean Todorov, 90, of Glenville, entered into eternal rest January 15, 2019 in Fairfax, Virginia. In addition to being a devoted mother to four children, she worked for the City of Watervliet, New York State, and as a Teacher Aide for the Guilderland Central School District.

Gerard A. Brehm Sr., 81, of East Greenbush, died Monday, January 28, 2019. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves. Jerry was employed by the New York Olympic Authority in 1980, as business administrator for the Schodack School District and as  budget director for the City of Troy. 

Marguerite W. Summerson, 98, of Canajoharie,  passed away January 27, 2019. Her first teaching assignment was in Hammersley Fork, PA. She taught school in the Canajoharie School System for 35 years, also working summers at Arkell & Smith Sack Factory, and in the strained foods at Beech-Nut, Inc. in the 1940's. She wrote an anonymous Local Human Interest Newspaper Column for the Cobleskill Journal called "Amy's Letter" in the early 1950's.

David J. Crandall, 85, of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019. After college graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served in Formosa. Upon returning home, he started a 32 year career in education, teaching in the Scotia Glenville School system for two years. He then went to work for the Schenectady City School District, where he was a guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, finishing his career as assistant superintendent in charge of personnel.

Kathy A. Murphy-Rought, of Albany, died Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was a vocational rehabilitation counselor and had worked at Acces-VR, Unified Services of Rensselaer County and Albany High School. She was an unrelenting advocate for people with disabilities.

Gail P. Led Duke, 67, of Colonie, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Gail enjoyed her career of 16 years as a bus driver for the South Colonie Central School District.

Kenneth William Jackson, 74, of Malta, passed away January 21, 2019. Ken was born on February 11, 1944, in Shipley, England. For most of his career he held a joint appointment as a Research Scientist with the New York State Department of Health, and Professor (and for a time Department Chair) in the SUNY School of Public Health.

Roseann "Rose" Helmes, 98, of East Greenbush, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She entered the United States Navy during World War II as a member of the Hospital Corps. She moved to East Greenbush in 1953 where she worked as a principal stenographer for the East Greenbush School District for twenty years retiring in 1983.

Judith Jenkins Young, 80, of Schenectady, died January 18, 2019. She taught reading in area schools for a number of years. Judy was proud to be certified to screen for and treat people with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (Irlen) and was always eager to help children and adults learn the pleasure of reading. Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome is a perceptual processing disorder. It is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain's ability to process visual information.

Shirley Ann Grubs, of Greenville, SC, died on January 26, 2019. She was born on October 2, 1934, on Staten Island, NY. Following her college graduation, Shirley worked as an elementary school teacher outside of Rochester, teaching fourth grade, and later as a substitute teacher in Delmar.

Sophie Greco Ferrara passed away January 24, 2019. She enjoyed a long and successful tenure as a high school business teacher in both Amsterdam and Syracuse. In her early career, Sophie served as the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor of Amsterdam and spent several years during WWII in the Business Office for the US Army.

MaryEllen Barrett, 84, of Rensselaer, passed away on January 26, 2019. She taught French in Schodack Central Schools, East Greenbush Central Schools, Hudson Valley Community College, Junior College of Albany, and also taught English as a second language in Paris, France and at Russell Sage College in Troy.

William Brian Hitchko, 66, of Ballston Spa, died suddenly while helping friends during the winter storm on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Brian's professional career included being a carpenter, a school bus driver and most recently as a truck driver at Shaker Group, Inc. in Latham. 

Muriel Newcomb, of Lake George, NY, a long time teacher at West Albany and Veeder elementary schools in the South Colonie Central School District, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019. Muriel was born on October 17, 1927. She was a schoolteacher for 32 years at several schools in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, before retiring from the South Colonie School District in 1985.

Kathleen Kelleher Riley, 84, of Latham, entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Born in Glens Falls on December 11, 1934, she was the reading teacher with the Waterford Central School district for over 16 years, retiring in 1989.

Betty L. Marquart, 82, of Rittman, OH, died Monday, January 21, 2019. She taught fourth grade for nine years and taught three years in the summer reading program in the Rittman Schools. The family moved to Ballston Lake, New York in 1978 and she was a reading and math volunteer for 14 years in the Rise in Support of Education at Shenendehowa Schools. 

Frances K. Winegar of Ballston Lake passed away Monday, January 21, 2019. Frances worked as a secretary and salesperson in her early years, and last worked as a hall monitor at Shenendehowa High School. 

Dorothy C. von Bieberstein, 88, of Valatie, passed away December 29, 2018. After graduating from Hudson High School in 1948, she worked as a legal secretary and as a waitress. She also picked strawberries, cherries and apples in season so that she could support her horse and her car. By the late 1950's, having worked as a secretary at the Hudson Training School for Girls for several years, Dorothy was encouraged by her supervisor to apply for admission to the New York State Teachers College at Albany. Upon her graduation in 1962, she accepted a position at Hudson High School, where she taught English, retiring in 1985.

Adelheid "Dale" Gensicki from West Stephentown, passed away at the age of 92 on January 22, 2019. Dale was born in Vienna, Austria. After obtaining her GED, she began working for the Averill Park School district cafeteria in 1974. She eventually became head cook at Averill Park High School.

Michael Ambrosio, 64, of Latham, died Monday January 21, 2019. Born in Queens, NY on June 6, 1954, he was a Physical Education Teacher at South Colonie Central High School from 1985 until his retirement in 2017. Mike also coached wrestling, track, lacrosse, and varsity football. 

Marjory T. Fuller of Slingerlands passed away Monday, January 14, 2019. Born on January 4, 1928, in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was a voice professor (at SUNY-Albany among others), operatic lead and concert soloist, and, choir director. 

Jean A. Nolan, 93, of Loudonville, entered eternal life Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Born in Albany, she was a graduate of Cathedral Academy. She retired from the SUNY Albany Library in 1985.

Ann Markopoulos, 91, of Schenectady, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019. She worked as a bookkeeper until she married in 1951. Soon after she married, Ann moved to Schenectady where she enjoyed part-time work as a crossing guard and later as a lunch monitor in the Oneida Jr. High School.

Lucy C. Sigley, 79, of Niskayuna, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019. Born on September 18, 1939, in Allentown, Pa., she married and was a grade school teacher before her son was born. After, Lucy left teaching to raise her son, working as a substitute teacher while he was in school. 

Naomi G. Powell, 77, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. Naomi worked as a teacher's aide in the Niskayuna School District.

Margaret "Peg" K. Lazarou, 90, passed away January 13, 2019. She was a music teacher in the Greater Amsterdam School District for 32 years and was the Director of Music at the Second Presbyterian Church for many decades. Peg, also, taught private piano and vocal lessons. 

Donna Marie Accuosti, 55 of Delmar, died Tuesday January 15, 2019. She spent her entire career in education, most recently at the Greenville Central School District as the assistant superintendent. 

Cheryl Joy Skinner, 47, of Cameron, North Carolina and formerly of Albany, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019. Cheryl was born on February 28, 1971, in New Rochelle, NY. She was a master's graduate of SUNY Albany and was employed as a dedicated special education teacher.

Jeannette Elliott-Camerota of Cohoes passed on Friday, January 11, 2019. She worked for Matthew Bender, JC Penney, The Law Office of John Poggioli and Questar III BOCES in clerical and accounting roles.

Howard James Rickard Jr., 67, of Cobleskill, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019. He was a former Mathematics teacher at Schoharie High School.  He also taught Computer Science at SUNY Cobleskill.

John R. Johnas, 71, of Brunswick, passed away January 11, 2019. John was born in Albany and grew up in Rensselaer. In 1968, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army in Vietnam. John retired from the Albany Police Department after 21 years of service and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years. His retirement job was as a night security guard with Tamarac Schools.

Margaret "Pinkie" Merriam Moon, 98, a longtime resident of Corinth, died Friday, January 4, 2019. Born Jan. 29, 1920 in Syracuse, Pinkie began substitute teaching in public and private schools in NJ. She then taught 4th grade in the Old Tappan, NJ school district until her retirement in June of 1982. 

Donna Elizabeth Morey, 79, formerly of Schoharie, NY, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019. She retired after teaching Kindergarten for several years at Schalmont School.

Henry John Buczkowski of Scotia died on January 7, 2019. He was born in Buffalo, NY in 1933. He spent most of his adult life as a special educator in the Niskayuna School District and an adjunct professor at SUNY Albany.

Elaine M. Arnold, 73, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. Elaine was born in Ballston Spa, New York, on August 6, 1945. Elaine was a custodian with the Ballston Spa Central Schools, retiring after thirty years of service.

Mary-Jo Clancy, 69, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was born on April 27, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY. She was employed with the Schalmont School district for 20 years as a Teacher's Aide, retiring in 2015.

Mary Jane (Rowland) Kennedy, 77, of Albany, entered into eternal life on January 1, 2019. Born in Glens Falls, Mary Jane graduated from Felt & Tarrant Comptometer School. She was employed at the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company and The City School District of Albany before her retirement in 1998.

Ellen M. Spiewak passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Ellen was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong resident. She worked at General Electric Company, was a "Fay Swafford" handbag representative, a lunchroom aide at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Schenectady and became a Regional Representative for "Avon" cosmetics.
