Ralph Nicholas Giaquinto, Scotia, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015. He retired from Shenendehowa Schools in 2003 after 20 years of service

Donahue, C. Richard, 84, of North Salem, NY, died December 30, 2015. He was a social worker at Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES from 
1964 to 1995.

Warren W. Reich, 92, of Guilderland, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. He taught German at Mont Pleasant High School, Schenectady. In 1961 he joined the German faculty at SUNY Albany.

Katherine Margaret Rosbrook, 71, of Kinderhook, passed away December 27, 2015. She was a teacher's aide and librarian's aide for seven years  at Ichabod Crane High School.
Elizabeth J. Pratt, 80, of Peck Lake, died December 23, 2015. She was a Pre-K teacher in the Ramapo Central School District, Rockland County, for a number of years.

Judith Ann Tripoli, 86, of Colonie, died December 26, 2015. She taught at Fort Hunter Elementary School in Guilderland, and the Cherry Lane Elementary School in Carle Place, N.Y.

Patricia A. Kane, 90, of Latham, passed on December 25, 2015. She worked in the North Colonie School District.

William F. Sheehan, 94, of Mechanicville,
died on December 26, 2015. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Action in WWII. He taught for four years at Stillwater High School. He was a Professor of Law at the School of Business at SUNY Albany from 1957-1985.

Patricia K. Capece, 81, of Albany, died Sunday, December 20, 2015. She retired from the White Plains Public School District, where she worked in special education, and at the end of her career served as a film editor and processor for the District. 

Alphonse J. Angelino, 85, of Glenville, passed away December 19, 2015. He retired from G.E. in 1988. As a retired G.E. engineer, Al taught math at Hudson Valley and Cobleskill Community Colleges.

Richard W. Wilkie passed away November 16, 2015, in Lakeside, Calif., at 89. Prior to retiring to California, Richard had an exemplary career as professor of Rhetoric & Communication at SUNY Albany.

Charles E. Reardon Jr., 88, of Brunswick, died December 17, 2015. He retired in 1996 as an electrician from the Troy City School District.

Milan Martin Krchniak, 84, of East Greenbush, passed away December 2, 2015. He taught History in the Phelps, N.Y. and East Greenbush until 1960. He served as guidance counselor as well as director of Pupil Services and Instruction in the East Greenbush School System until his retirement in 1986.


Sandra B. Badalucco, 78, of Rotterdam, died Thursday, December 17, 2015.  Sandy spent many happy years as an educator, teaching business at both Schalmont High School and later at Spencer Business Institute. 

Nicholas Joseph Chiera, 55, of Clifton Park, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015. He was employed by Catholic Charities in Albany for many years as a social worker. Most recently, he was employed by the Shenendehowa Central School District. 

Mary U. Gelston, 70, of Latham, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015. Mary was a reading specialist in many area schools as part of the S.U.N.Y. Research Foundation in Albany. At one time she was an elementary school teacher in Spencerport, N.Y. and Morgantown, W.Va. 

Elizabeth Jane Linehan Broderick, 86, of Concord, Mass., died on December 13, 2015. She taught English at Voorheesville, South Colonie, and East Greenbush Central Schools.

Dorothy Elaine (Batty) Stafford, age 82, of Ballston Lake, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015. She worked as a secretary for General Electric in both Schenectady and New York City, and later worked as a secretary for the Shenendehowa school system.

Beatrice (Ullman) Mallery, 106, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died on Sunday, December 13, 2015. She taught in area one-room schools, and then during War II worked making war materials at the Beech-Nut Nutrition Corporation in Canajoharie.

Edwina "Winki" Walsh, of Newtonville, passed on December 11, 2015. Many children were blessed to be taught by Edwina. She taught elementary education, high school English, special education and technology. 

Michael "Perky" S. Perkins, 42, of Halfmoon, formerly of South Glens Falls, died Saturday, December 12, 2015. He was employed by the South Glens Falls School District for over 14 years as a custodian and currently was the building services supervisor at the Harrison Avenue Elementary School for the past year.

Sharon G. Kristel (MacFee), 63, of West Glenville, entered into eternal rest on Friday December 11, 2015. She worked for 20 plus years as a secretary for the Scotia-Glenville School District, retiring in 2011.

Elizabeth A. Jensen, 76, of Stuyvesant died Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Born July 21, 1939,  Elizabeth retired from the Ichabod Crane School System as an instructional aide in 2001.

Anne Elizabeth Toussaint, 77, of Bethlehem, died on December 6, 2015. Anne worked for the Bethlehem Central School District for more than 20 years and retired in 2003. 

Richard D. "Dick" Gresens, 72, of Clearwater, FL, passed away December 4, 2015. Dick taught mathematics in Guilderland before serving in the US Army in Vietnam 1968-1970. During that time, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert M-1 Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

Jane (Marn) Kleinke, of Albany, died Thursday, December 3, 2015. Jane was born October 1, 1937, on a farm. She had dreams of becoming a teacher, which became a reality. She taught for over 35 years in the Albany School District.

Lois Mary Hodges passed on December 4, 2015. Lois was born in Rotterdam, NY on May 13,1928. When her daughters were older, Lois went to work as a secretary in the Superintendent's Office at Scotia-Glenville Central Schools.


Anthony J. Califano, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Saturday December 5, 2015. In 1964, Anthony began his 37 year teaching career at the Richard O'Rourke Middle School in Burnt Hills, as a teacher of Reading, English and Social Studies; and subsequently became the Dean of Students. He retired in 2001.


James "Ed" Manuel, 85, of Rexford, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.  He worked for Gyrodyne Company of America and then later in life worked as a professor at Farmingdale State College SUNY, on Long Island,  teaching engineering courses. 


Jean Brester Orzel Friss, 101,  of Schenectady, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015.  During WWII, she volunteered as a Red Cross nurses' aide. Later she worked as a secretary in the Schenectady City School District.

Robert J. Pallozzi, 79, of Castleton died on Monday, November 30, 2015. He retired as principal for Goff School in the East Greenbush Central School district where he worked for 30 years.

Edward C. D'Ambrosio, 84, of Rotterdam, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015. He worked for the City of Schenectady as a Fireman for 37 years, from 1951-1988, and was also a bus driver for Mohonasen High School. 

Molly Natale, 87, of Amsterdam, NY, has gone to her eternal rest on November 29, 2015.  She worked for many years as a cook for the Greater Amsterdam School District. 


Harold "Hal" N. Langlitz, 90, of Glenmont, passed  on November 28, 2015. He began his career as a music teacher in Fairport, served as a principal in Syracuse and district principal of the Westhill School System in Syracuse. He retired in 1995 as executive director of the New York State Teachers Retirement System in Albany.


Marjorie L. Schmid, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015. She started her career running the dining hall at Washington State University in Pullman. Moving back east, she settled in Schenectady in 1956 to raise seven children and be an adjunct at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Mary J. Datri Tiberia, 87, of Ravena, passed on Thursday, November 26, 2015. When her children were grown, Mary became a teacher's aide in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk elementary school and retired after 21 years of service.

Mary A. Quillan, 90, of Ballston Spa, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. After moving to Ballston Spa, she cooked at the Ballston Spa Central Schools for 14 years, retiring in 1985.

Michelle A. Schrader, 33, of East Greenbush, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015. Michelle was an elementary art teacher at the Walter B. Howard Elementary School in New Lebanon for the last seven years.

Frank Edward Massey, 86, of Scotia, passed away on November 22, 2015. In 1990, he retired, from his position as Post Master. Following retirement, he worked for the Scotia Middle School, which fulfilled his love for working with kids.

Mary Jane Dunsmoor Fleming died November 21, 2015. Born in Pittsburgh on May 9, 1927, Mary Jane met her future husband while teaching kindergarten in post-war Paris.

Mark C. Van Sluyters, 67, of Newtonville, passed away on October 24, 2015. Mark worked as a history teacher (grades 7-12) for Hoosic Valley Junior Senior High School, Schaghticoke, for 31 years.

Shirley Ada Mason Kessler, 91, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015. Born and raised in Sodus, NY, she was a math educator for Columbia School in Rochester for many years until her retirement.


Patricia P. Schlegel, 72, of Scotia, died Tuesday, November 17th, 2015. She began her career as a school teacher in the area and later became a successful realtor.

Dorothy Tesch Miller, age 96, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015. She was the Principal's Secretary at Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, New York, when it opened in 1957 and after college returned to Niskayuna High School as an English teacher. 

Carole Ann Marra, 70, of Albany, died Thursday, November 19, 2015.  Carole began her career as a teacher in the Mechanicville School District. After teaching for several years, she became a speech-language pathologist at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, in Albany.

Brenda M. Dugan, 75, of Hampton, NH, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015. She was a teacher at St Bridgett's in Maynard, MA, and was a school guidance counselor in Boothbay Harbor, Bath and Topsham, Maine.

Catherine M. (Dearing) Waters, 107, of Guilderland, died on Sunday, November 15, 2015. She lived in Buffalo area until 2006.  Catherine taught history at Kenmore High School from 1930-1936.


Francis J. "Frank" Reith Sr., 87, of Albany, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015. As a young man Frank worked as a driver and later as a custodian for the Albany Public School System.

Sherry H. Keegan, 98, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. She taught for ten years in area schools and retired from the Syracuse Public School Systems after teaching there for 23 years. 

Randy D. Fitch, 56, of Troy, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015. Randy had worked as a school bus driver for Stillwater Central Schools.

Melanie Mae Feldman (Crouse) passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2015 at the age of 61. Melanie was employed by the Schenectady School District as a teacher's assistant for 19 years. 

Marjorie J. Schmitt (nee: Severyn), 97, of East Glenville, passed away on November 15, 2015. Marjorie was born on April 8, 1918 in Nebraska. She received her teaching certificate from Springfield College in South Dakota and taught in one room school houses until 1942.

Theresa M. Bell, 82, of Colonie, passed away on November 15, 2015. After many years as a stay at home mom, Theresa worked as a school bus driver for the North Colonie School District for 14 years.

Ruth May Jorgensen, 95, of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015. Ruth held jobs at Bethlehem Central School, New York State Tax Department and Joann Fabrics.

Jean M. Payne, 86, of Scotia, NY, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015.  Jean worked for Sealtest Co. for over 10 years, until going to work for the Scotia Glenville School System for many years, until her retirement in 1984.

Anthony James O'Connor, 62, of Schenectady, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  He taught at St. Gregory's School for Boys in Loudonville, NY for 20 years, where he coached soccer and basketball. He presently worked in Schenectady and Colonie Central School Districts for 15 years.

Jane Emma Macie, of Ravena,  passed away on November 12, 2015.  Jane was the first lady custodian for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District. 

Grace C. Lynch, 86, of Albany, passed away on Thursday November 12, 2015. Grace retired as a clerk for Albany County. She also worked part time as a crossing guard for the Albany Police.


Ruth M. Hansen LaBelle, 84, of Troy, died Thursday, November 12, 2015.  She was employed by Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands and by the Troy City School District where she was a food server for many years.

Born in 1923, John B. Trombly, of Henrietta, NY, died November 7, 2015. He was a dedicated employee of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central Schools, serving as a teacher and administrator for 39 years. 

Jean Ozard Beals, 100, of Bethlehem, NY, died Saturday, November 7, 2015. She was employed as a teacher for several years in Zanesville, Ohio and then for 20 years as a first grade teacher at the Voorheesville Elementary School before her retirement in 1975.

Sal Cannavo, 67, a lifelong resident of Schenectady, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Well known in the area, he briefly taught in the Schenectady schools and had the Sal Cannavo Band.

George L. Gallup, 82, Town of Wright, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. George drove school bus for Schoharie School, drove truck for various companies in the area, delivered mail, and worked the family farm on Larry Hill Road. 

M. Celeste Bradford, 84, of Schenectady passed away Sunday November 1, 2015. Celeste worked in the payroll department for the Schenectady School District for 15 years and volunteered at Proctors Theatre for 20 years.

Eileen Pillsworth, 70, of Castleton, passed away November 8, 2015. In addition to her work as a homemaker, Eileen was also the cook for the Schodack Central School District and the assistant librarian at the Castleton Public Library

Dorothy S. Donlon, 64, of Clifton Park, died on Sunday, November 8, 2015. She began her career in education working at the Washington-Warren BOCES and the Beagle School. Dorothy retired as an associate principal in 2012 of Shenendehowa High School West.

Paul J. Quigley, 82, of Ballston Lake, died on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Paul was a 35 year employee of the Shenendehowa Central School District where he climbed the ladder from physical education teacher, coach, guidance counselor, vice principal and finally assistant superintendent.

Josephine M. DeMarco, 91, of Glenmont, died Saturday, November 7, 2015.  From 1967 through 1986 she worked as a teachers aide at Voorheesville Elementary School.

Patricia (nee: Andrew) Looman, 86, of Scotia, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015. For over 20 years, Patricia was employed with the Scotia-Glenville School System, working as a cook in the cafeteria until her retirement.

Marjorie Huff Grout was born on April 18, 1923 and passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015. Marjorie received her master's degree in Home Economics and taught at Glens Falls High School for 15 years, teaching the first ever boys' home economics class in the school.

Mrs. Eleanor C. Tunnicliff Thelen, formerly of Glenville/Burnt Hills, NY, passed on at the age of 95 years on Monday, November 2, 2015. Eleanor taught for over 29 years in the Elmira City School District until her retirement in 1975.

Katherine "Kay" Elaine Doyle (Pete as she was affectionately known), 93, of Cohoes, passed away on October 31, 2015. During World War II she worked as an occupational therapist, helping the injured troops who were returning from the war. During her career Kay taught English in the Syracuse, Lake Luzerne and North Colonie School Districts, retiring from North Colonie as an English teacher and high school librarian.

Elizabeth "Betty" Miller, of Delmar, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, at age 89. She retired from a career with the Bethlehem Central School District.

Mertel M. Mihal, who just celebrated her 90th birthday, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015. Born in Schenectady, Mertel  flew airplanes as a private pilot in the 1940s. She retired after 20 years as a teacher's aide at Lynnwood School in Guilderland.

Robert C. Niles, of Delmar, born July 30, 1925 in Oriskany, died November 1, 2015. Bob's long and varied career included private investigation, World Book manager, 25 years as a elementary and middle school teacher of social studies and math in the South Colonie Central School District, and tutoring. 

Marvin Weaver, 92, of Schenectady, died on October 21, 2015.  He joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to Malaysia, where he taught high school chemistry and later served in Fiji and American Samoa. He also taught at Schenectady County Community College.


Mrs. Frances Perkins, 101, of Loudonville, died October 29, 2015. She was a teacher for 37 years, starting in a one room rural school in the Town of Fenton. She also taught at Nott Terrace High School and Linton High School, both in Schenectady, from 1946 until her retirement in 1974. 

John Crowe "Jack" McGreivey Jr., of Cato, died on October 27, 2015. Born in 1937, he taught English at Clarence, Cato-Meridian, Little Falls, Jordan-Elbridge and Syracuse High Schools, and at Cayuga County Community College.

Joseph A. Hatlee, 79, of Wilton, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. He was born in Schenectady. He worked as a custodian for the Saratoga Springs City Schools.

Jane Frances Glavin Behr died on October 26, 2015. Born on April 29, 1929, Jane worked as the secretary to the superintendent of schools and clerk of the Board of Education in the Hyde Park Central School District.

Joanne (Rhyner) Dayton, of Brant Lake, NY, died on October 23rd 2015. She would have been 70 years old on October 29th. She was blessed to have taught for over 31 years - first in the Syracuse area, and then in the Scotia-Glenville Central School District.

Barbara A. Coogan, 79, of Guilderland, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Barb graduated from Guilderland High School in the late fifties and later went back to her alma mater where she worked for 30 years as a teacher's aide until her retirement in 2011.

James G. Sokaris, 78, of Albany, died on October 25, 2015. His professional career as a math teacher started at Hackett Junior High School and Philip J. Schuyler in Albany, and then continued for 25 years at Shaker High School in North Colonie. 


Anne Marie Sobiecki, 84,  died on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Among her teaching experiences were English and Latin in Castleton, English in South Colonie Central High School and English in Little Falls High School. Anne Marie trained teachers in Sierra Leone, West Africa in the Peace Corps.

Marlanna Ghovanloo Nichols, 33, of Slingerlands, died Thursday, October 22, 2015. While living in North Carolina, she worked for nine years as an English teacher and was an Assistant Principal for two years in Fayetteville.

Irwin Powell, 84, a longtime resident of Clifton Park passed away on October 22, 2015. Upon his retirement he worked at Shenendehowa Central School in the food service department and drove the senior shuttle bus for the Town of Clifton Park.


Constance "Connie" Clemans, 78, of Poestenkill passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015. Connie spent the last 50 plus years doing what she loved, being a teacher. She worked for the Averill Park Central School District part-time teaching health at Miller Hill - Sand Lake Elementary School and substituting.


Jane A. Kinney, age 86, of Clifton Park passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015. She was a teacher in Toledo, Ohio, for over 35 years. She taught elementary school and at Whitmer High School.


Hope S. Cook, 87, of Troy, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015. Hope worked for the Council of Churches in Albany and later as a secretary for North Colonie Central School District.

Robin A. Boughton, age 52, of Rensselaer passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015. She was a teacher's aide in the Rensselaer City School District. Robin leaves behind her friends at Van Rensselaer Elementary.

James P. Carroll, 75, of Spencerport, NY, died April 3, 2015. Jim tutored in mathematics at Spencerport High School after he retired from JML Optics.

Robert C. Taft, of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY,  passed away on October 19, 2015. He was born on January 4, 1937 in Brattleboro, VT and worked for Maple Hill High School in the Schodack Central School District.

Helen Pouchak Plaskon, 95, died Sunday, October 18, 2015. Born in Maplewood on January 24, 1920, she was employed by Maplewood School in Watervliet, NY as a lunch monitor for 25 years.

Richard A. Hixon Sr., 83, of Sand Lake, died on Thursday, October 15, 2015. Richard was a longtime teacher, having first taught in Uniondale, N.Y. Later, he began a 29-year teaching career at Castleton Elementary School in Schodack, retiring in 1987. 

Harold "Sonny" G. DeFreest passed away on October 17, 2015. He was born on August 23, 1932 in Albany and worked for the South Colonie School District until his retirement in 1995.

Gary R. Gilmore, 83, of Tyler, Texas, died May 29, 2015. He was a guidance counselor at Fox lane High School in Mount Kisco, NY, for more than 25 years.

Robert J. McCoubrie, 85, of Rosemount, Minnesota, died December 30, 2014. He taught high school mathematics and science for 30 years and was a skilled canoeist in the Canadian Far North.

Robert A. Vignola, 88, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died July 1, 2014. He taught English in Broward County, Florida, for 26 years.

Jesse Albert Mould, 97, of Orient, NY, died April 27, 2015. Al, who taught physics, biology and chemistry at Mattituck High School, was assistant principal of Uniondale, principal at Locust Valley and founding principal at Commack South High School.

Harvey Handel, 94, of Glenville, NY, died on Saturday, October 17, 2015. He taught at Nott Terrace and Mont Pleasant High Schools, served as the Principal of Oneida Junior High School, all in Schenectady, and later became the Superintendent of the Schalmont Central School District.


Anne McCorquodale Dahl, 80, died on Thursday, October 8th, 2015, in Boise, ID. She was an elementary school teacher serving in Connecticut, Germany, New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania.


Donald J. Miller, Sr., 84, of Watervliet,  passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015. Don was a bookkeeper with the Delaware and Hudson Railroad for more than 30 years. After retiring he enjoyed being with children as a bus driver and aide for the Bethlehem Central School District. 


Robert W. Miles, 91, of Chateaugay Lake, NY, died October 15, 2015. He  taught English in Camden, NY, was a guidance counselor and became an administrator there.

Thomas R. Nowacki, of Clifton Park, died Thursday, October 15, 2015.  Tom served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Christine Maxwell, 58, of Nassau died Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Christine was born in Albany. She was a bus aide for East Greenbush Central Schools.


Alan Edward Weeks, 67,  passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015. Moving to East Nassau in 1985, he became Camp Director for the Rural Migrant Ministry of Poughkeepsie. By 2005, he was a teacher for the Albany City School District and adjunct professor at Russell Sage College. 


Marilyn Dagostino, 66, of Schenectady, died on September 23, 2015. She taught in Orchard Park, NY. The highlight of her career was teaching at the Multinational Force & Observers Camp on the Sinai Peninsula in 1991.


Sandra Hartman, of Rotterdam, passed away October 11, 2015. Sandra was a longtime employee of the Mohonasen School District. 


Muriel Branham, 93, of Concord, NH, and formerly of Clifton Park, died July 31, 2015.  Muriel had been employed at the Broome County BOCES in Binghamton and retired in 1977.


Helen "Jonesy" Szarowski (nee Simmons), 71, of Westerlo. passed away on October 3, 2015. She began her teaching career in Dunkirk, N.Y. An educator for over three decades, Helen also taught in Whitinsville, Mass., before settling into her career in rural upstate New York until her retirement in 2006.


Debra "Debbie" Hebert, 64, of Delanson, passed away on October 7, 2015. She owned and operated a daycare with her mother and was a long-time teaching assistant at BOCES, working with students with special needs.


Cheryl L. Fisher, 70, of Schoharie, formerly of Stephentown, died Friday October 9, 2015. Cheryl taught 8th grade English at Averill Park Middle School for 33 years before her retirement in 2001. While at Averill Park, Cheryl served as president of the teacher's association for many years.


Marcia O'Brien of Troy entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2015. She served as a school nurse at School 14 in the Troy Public Schools from which she retired in 2003 after 20 years of service.


David C. Lockwood, 60, of East Greenbush, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015. He retired as a bus driver for East Greenbush Central School District.


Kathleen Frokedal, of  Niskayuna, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.  She taught English for four years at Oneida Middle School in Schenectady and for four years at Goff Middle School in East Greenbush.


Joseph V. Karas, 85,  died Friday, October 2, 2015. From 1968 to 1979 he was an instructor in Criminal Justice at Schenectady County Community College. He was retired from the New York State Police, Troop G as a Senior Investigator in Loudonville. 

Alma Mastandrea died September 27, 2015. Alma was born in Cohoes in 1930. She spent the majority of her teaching career as an elementary school librarian in the North Colonie School District.


Susan M. Haenel, 65, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015. Susan was a teacher's assistant for Ballston Spa Central Schools for almost 40 years. She tutored Math and was instrumental in running the Banana Splits Program, which helped children of divorced parents. 


Nancy H. Bulken, 87, of Batavia, formerly of Unadilla and Clifton Park, NY, passed on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Nancy worked as a Librarian for Unatego Central Schools.


Thomas F. "Murph" Murphy, of Albany, died on Sunday, October 4, 2015. He drove trucks for Dorn's and McLean's and later worked in the Albany School District, where he found so much joy in his interactions with the children. 

Lisa Holt, 68, of Niskayuna, died on October 2, 2015.  During her career she taught social studies, worked as a children's librarian for Schenectady County Public Library and worked for the New York State Education Department. 


Mary "Marita" Lansing, 96, of Latham passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015.  Mary worked as a lunch room aide with the North Colonie Central School District for 12 years before retiring in 1972.

Achamma Thomas of Guilderland passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015.  After her undergrad studies in India, she specialized as an educationist and worked as a mathematics teacher in Kerala, India for several years. 


John "Jack" Therrien of Niskayuna died Thursday, October 1, 2015. He began his teaching career at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and then enjoyed a long career as a mathematics professor at the University of Albany prior to his retirement. One of his cherished accomplishments was the Outstanding Teacher Award bestowed on him, which was determined by student choice.



67 year-old English professor Lawrence Levine of Glide, Oregon was shot and killed at Umpqua Community College in Umpqua, Oregon on Thursday, October 1, 2015, while teaching an introduction to writing class.

Loyola Jean Henderson Kranz, 81, of Slingerlands, passed on Monday, September 28, 2015. She began a lifelong teaching career at Westmere Elementary in Guilderland, second grade. Officially retiring in 1989, she continued to substitute teach up until Spring of this year. 

Joyce H. Kinnally, 87, died Friday, September 25, 2015, in Raleigh, NC. After completing her education, she taught science at Heidelberg, Germany High School, operated by the Department of Defense. Upon returning to the U.S., she taught high school physics and chemistry in Smithtown, NY.


Mary B. Kennedy (nee Orbon, and previously Mabb), died early Monday, September 20, 2015. Mary was born in Hudson on January 19, 1937. She worked a decade as school nurse's aide at Ichabod Crane Central School and at various administrative support positions before a well-deserved retirement.

Gordon H. Jevons died on September 21, 2015. Gordon graduated from SUNY New Paltz, and went on to a teaching career starting in Middleburgh and ending in North Colonie after 35 years of teaching.

Richard H. Hall, 80, recently of Loudonville, passed away on September 23, 2015. Professor Hall was the Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University at Albany, where he taught from 1977 to 2007, in addition to serving as vice president, dean and department chair at various times. 

Diane J. (Zaconick) Feit, 74, of Bedford, MA died on Sunday, September 20, 2015. She resided in Albany, NY for most of her life and began her career as an elementary school teacher in Niskayuna.

Nancy J. Ellegate, 56, died Sunday, September 27, 2015. She was employed as a senior acquisitions editor at SUNY Press in Albany for 26 years. 

Nancy Joan Reynolds, 68, of Gloversville, died Thursday morning, October 1, 2015. After several years of teaching at the School for the Blind in New Hampshire, she was an Instructional Teacher's Aide at Northville Central School from 1974 to 1975, and then for years taught remedial reading at St. Johnsville School, from where she retired in 2004 with a total of 32 years teaching.

The "Voice of Shaker High School" has been silenced. Marjorie D. Pollack, 89, died on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, in Albany. Marge was the receptionist, switchboard operator, and advisor to teachers and principals at Shaker High School in Latham. She started this career shortly after Shaker opened, and continued it for the next 36 years.

Elaine Olsen, 86, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, September 24, 2015. She taught elementary school in New Jersey and Phoenix, Arizona. 

Elizabeth "Betty" Matalavage, 90, of Stamford, NY and North Topsail Beach, NC, passed away on September 27, 2015. Betty started her history teaching career at Margaretville Central School and retired at the age of 55 from Walton Central School. 

Ernie Lotano, 74, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. He taught Social Studies for over 40 years at Van Corlaer, Mont Pleasant High School, Schenectady High School and Catholic Central High School.


Philip Latimer, 83, of Niskayuna, NY, died Friday, September 25, 2015.  Mr. Latimer was an English teacher for many years at Mayfield Junior High and Schalmont High School. He also taught in Germany for 3 years. He was a principal during part of his career in education.


Annie L. Waddington, 94, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Annie retired from SUNY Albany.

Kathleen "Kay" M. Thomas, 94, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015. She was employed by New York Telephone and later by South Colonie Central High School.


Z. Inci Terry, 82, died on Monday, September 28, 2015, in Cohoes. She held teaching positions at Southern Connecticut State University, SUNY Oswego; University of Tulsa; and Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. 

Maryann P. Creighton, 72, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015. She was a lifelong Schenectady area resident. Maryann worked as a nurse and teacher for the Schenectady City School District for 34 years, retiring in 2002. 

Mary Byrne Carroll, 91, a native of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015, in Albany.  Mary taught mathematics for many years at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Poughkeepsie and Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, New York.


Elisabeth Denny (Deedie), 86, of Kittery, Maine, passed away September 18, 2015. Deedie was raised in Schenectady, New York. After her children were grown, she taught in the Warner, New Hampshire School District.

Lillian Margaret Chesebro, 90, passed away September 1, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born April 10, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, Lillian taught at the West Albany Elementary School in the South Colonie Central School District.


William Nelson Gill, 87, passed away September 16, 2015. He served as Dean of Engineering at SUNY Buffalo, one job in a long career of leadership, teaching and advising  positions at several universities.

John W. "Jack" Pulver, 82, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015. He was a school bus driver for the East Greenbush Central School District.

Harriet Elizabeth Miller Simpkins, 85, died on September 13, 2015. She was was a part time library aide at the Chatham Central School library.

Carol Jean (Greenhill) Hudson, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015. She taught English in the Duanesburg School District for one year. Starting in 1978 she worked at the Schenectady Museum, where she was Director of Public Information and Publications until her retirement in 1997.

Stuart Stiles, 80, of Howells, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015. He taught psychology at Orange County Community College for 33+ years and was Professor Emeritus.


Anna Patricia "Pat" (King) DeForest, 92, passed away September 10, 2015. She worked as a teacher assistant for Craig Elementary School in Niskayuna for a number of years.


Kerri Noelle Goodman Saunders, 42, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. She was very committed to her career as a licensed social worker (LCSW-R, CSSW). She worked at Bethlehem Central High School. Her mother, Beth Goodman, taught in the South Colonie School District for many years.


Donald Eugene Rock, 63, formerly of Cohoes, passed away September 4, 2015.  Don enjoyed teaching in the Central Kitsap (WA) School District for over 25 years. 


Diane Hart-Henley, 62, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.  Early on, her compassion for special needs children manifested itself first at Fairmount Children's Center, then at Jowonio School and later on at the Fayetteville-Manlius School District.

Charles R. Caruso, 79, passed on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. He had a long career with the Greater Amsterdam School District retiring after 30 years as Director of Finance and Treasurer of the Board of Education. 


Mary C. (nee: Farrell) Graf, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Mary was a school secretary for Bay Shore High School and Wyandanch School until her retirement in 1983.


Charles R. Baker, 96, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Charles worked in the 1940s for Washington Irving High School, Tarrytown, N.Y. where he was director of Athletics. He continued his teaching career at Bergenfield High School in New Jersey where he retired in 1982 as System Director of Health, Safety & Physical Education.


Monica Larrea Rodriguez, 60,  died on the morning of September 7, 2015.  She was an associate professor at SUNY Albany.

Agnes Gabrielsen Clark, 88, passed away September 3, 2015. In 1971 Agnes went to work as a teacher aide at Slingerlands Elementary School. She continued her career in the Bethlehem Central School District as a secretary retiring in 1995 as the secretary to the supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. 


Rose M. Severino, 91, died Friday, September 4, 2015. She worked for the  Mohonasen School District (Bradt School) as a cafeteria worker.

Patricia Walker Hart, 88, died on September 3, 2015. She worked for the Schenectady School System and Capital Region BOCES.

Morris "Corky" Coons Jr., 81,  died Sunday, September 6, 2015.  He was employed at SUNY Cobleskill for 34 years, retiring as head of the paint department.

Frank O. Austin, 90, passed away on September 5, 2015. Mr. Austin was a teacher and administrator for 39 years in Schenectady, NY, Bronxville, NY, and Ellington, CT. An early education specialist, he started the Pre-Kindergarten programs at Linton and Mt. Pleasant high schools, as well as heading Schenectady's NYS Experimental Pre-K. He also directed Head Start from 1965-67.

H. Frank Rhyner, 92, died September 2, 2015. His career as a school psychologist included three years in the schools of eastern Delaware County and 17 years in Liverpool Central Schools where he initiated and developed the school psychology program.

Ellen Fay Harmon, 88, died Thursday, September 3, 2015. Ellen taught in the City School District of Albany at the former P.S. #4 from 1950-1952. In 1977 she returned to teaching after a 25-year maternity leave. Ellen was a member of the Science Faculty at Albany High School, retiring in 1992.

Lynn Dwyer, 69, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. She was employed by Questar III Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene Counties BOCES for 20-plus years, retiring in 2007.

Bruce J. Donnelly, 75,  died Friday, September 4, 2015. He was a Police Officer in New York City for 17 years and after retirement Bruce enjoyed driving a bus for Hudson City Schools.

Maureen A. Bonacker, 72, died Thursday, September 3, 2015. She was a substitute teacher's aide at Ichabod Crane School.

James M. Flynn, 86, passed away on August 28, 2015. He worked 15 years for the Mohonasen School District as a school bus driver.  

Beverly Q. Gribben, 77, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. She worked at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District for many years. She spent most of her career teaching at Pashley Elementary School and retired in 1996.

Marcia A. Carr, 80, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Marcia taught physical education for 30 years at Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady.

Virgil I. January, 72, died September 1, 2015. Virgil served as a professor of Behavorial Science with SUNY Albany.

Robert R. Cullen, 93, of Stuyvestant Falls, NY, died August 31, 2015. He spent 37 years with the Hudson City School District, serving as principal of Claverack, Stottville, Greenport and Stuyvestant Falls elementary schools.

Jogindar S. Uppal, 88, died Monday, August 31, 2015. He had a long career as a professor of economics at the University of Hawaii, Michigan State University, and, since 1967, at the State University of New York in Albany, where he was awarded the title of distinguished professor. He retired in 2012.  

Frank J. Scheels, 82, died on august 28, 2015. He worked and retired from the Cohoes City School District after holding management positions at several local businesses.

Jeanne Anne Fortin, 83, died on Friday, August 28, 2015. Prior to marriage, Jeanne served as an elementary school teacher for the Cohoes City School District. 

Elizabeth "Chee Chee Thunder Bird" Haile, 85, entered the Spirit World on August 21, 2015 at her home on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, adjacent to Southampton, New York. She taught in the Schenectady School system as a Physical Education teacher, and also taught Indian Culture and Modern Dance locally.

Elizabeth Cummings O'Neill, 96, died Thursday, August 27, 2015. Betty taught at elementary schools in Cohoes, and for several years in the Troy Public Schools including School 12, 16, and Carroll Hill. She retired from Troy in 1977.


Daniel Owen Riggins, 66, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. Dan's educational career began at the Mohonasen Central School District as a middle school science teacher and continued / concluded as Principal of Charlton Heights Elementary School in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District.

Agnes C. Matthews, 79, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2015. After her retirement from her 27 year career at the Schenectady Daily Gazette in 1998, she worked at Duanesburg Elementary School as a teacher's aide. 

Viberto Peter Colarossi was born July 27, 1924 and departed this life on August 11, 2015 at the age of 91. Peter was employed by Mohonasen School District for over 30 years as head custodian for three schools in that district. 

Elizabeth C. (Betty Kay) Cullen died Wednesday, August 19, 2015.  In 1959, she received her bachelor's of arts degree from DePauw University. Upon graduation, she taught English and history.

Elizabeth A. Arcolano, 78, passed away on August 20, 2015.  Elizabeth retired from BOCES in Colonie where she worked as a secretary.

Kathryn T. Lenseth Simpson, age 87, entered into eternal peace on August 5, 2015. Kathryn worked at The Canteen at Bethlehem Central Junior High School.

Esther Eisner, 82, died August 20, 2015. She worked as a Classroom Teacher's Aid at Glencliff Elementary School (Niskayuna School District) for 21 years, and volunteered with Schenectady Schools after her retirement.

Mary R. (Benway) Mott, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Mohonasen School District. 

Gordon S. "Uncle Gordie" Paro, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015. He enjoyed home building and became a carpentry instructor at the Capital District BOCES in Colonie, NY, where he and his students would build modular homes in the class room that would later be sold to consumers.   

Martha "Jo" Freeman Fagan, 92, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Jo was a physical education teacher for the Troy School District, teaching at Carroll Hill and Troy High School, retiring in 1982.

Clifford A. Helme Jr., 89, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. In 1991, he retired as Instructional Support Assistant at SUNY Cobleskill after 26 years of employment. 

Alan C. Lewis, 82, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015. While in college Alan became employed by the New York State Teachers Association (which later became NYSUT) and retired in February 1997 as legislative relations coordinator after 40 years of service.

Catherine D. Lawrence passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015. She was employed as a kindergarten teacher at the Heatly School in Green Island for over 30 years, where she was instrumental in many programs such as School to Work and Gifted and Talented.

Ann Cole, 89, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015. She worked at Scotia Glenville High School as a hall monitor.

Dominick J. Alonzo, 67, died Sunday, July 26, 2015. He taught music theory and keyboards at Schenectady County Community College.

Carl Conley, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Carl was employed for many years as the groundskeeper at the Mohonasen School District and later as a school bus driver.

Bernard R. Coleman, 84, died August 11, 2015. He worked at the Lansingburgh Central School District as a teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal.

Eleanor L. Iveson Reckner, 92, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015. She was a cafeteria worker at the George Washington School for Questar III BOCES.

Marie "Mitzi" Hilston Brady, 84, died August 5, 2015. She was a nurse at the SUNY Albany Health Center for many years.  

Raymond H. Keys, 88, died Thursday, August 6, 2015. He worked as a groundskeeper at SUNY Albany and retired in 1985.

Martin D. "Marty" Godgart, 87, died August 4, 2015. He was assistant superintendent of schools in Meriden and Southington, Connecticut, and professor of education at Manchester Community College.

Margaret Robin Blowers, age 59, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Mrs. Blowers dedicated her educational career to the students of Broadalbin-Perth Central School for over 25 years. Robin was the high school health teacher from 1986-1994, middle school health teacher and assistant principal from 1994-1995 and lastly retiring as the high school principal from 1997-2015. 

Helen Dorman, 72,  passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015. She retired from the Averill Park School District after 26 years of working as a teacher aide at West Sand Lake Elementary.


Brian M. Kenney, 60, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015. He began his career in Albany, at Parson's Child and Family Center, where he taught special education for four years. Brian went on to teach with Capital Region BOCES for the next 30 years and retired in June of 2013.

John T. Carmody Sr., 83, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015. Upon receiving his teaching degree, he taught graphic arts at Capital Region B.O.C.E.S. for 20 years.


Merle A. Davis, 76, died on Friday, August 7, 2015. She was an administrative assistant at the SUNY Research Foundation in Albany for many years.


Marco J. Silvestri, 78, died August 5, 2015. Professionally, Marco devoted his entire career toward post-secondary academic administration, serving at Niagara County Community College  and Hudson Valley Community College, retiring in 2005.

Joy A. Hall (Behrmann), 83, died on Thursday, August 6, 2015. Joy was a trained book-keeper and held several positions in the Mahopac School District .

Craig D. Smith, 55, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015. For the last 23 years he worked for BOCES in Colonie, NY where he was a senior network and systems technician.

John F. Benuscak, 85, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015. John was Band Director at Ballston Spa Central Schools for 30 years, retiring in1986.

Josephine Ann Tozzi, 86, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015. She had worked for the Albany City School District for several years.

W. Warren Gibson, 85, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015. He was a teacher at Troy High School for 32 years.

Helen Ramroth Willson passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Helen was a teacher for the Wynantskill Central School District for over 20 years. She retired from teaching in 1984.

Jeanne Millett, 88, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015. She worked at Niskayuna High School for 10 years as a cafeteria assistant.


Virginia White, 96, passed away on July 23, 2015. A retiree of Ichabod Crane School District, she began her career there as a cook at Martin Glynn school, ending her career as the manager of all cafeterias for the district.

William A. Schieffelin, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015. Bill was a physical education professor and men's head soccer coach at UAlbany from 1964 to 1986. He moved to Hudson Valley Community College where he served as athletic director from 1986 to 1996.

Jimmy J. Franco, 89, of South Cairo died Sunday, July 26, 2015. He worked in the Catskill Central School District for over 35 years as a basketball coach from 1959 to 1991, golf coach and driver education teacher.  

Bernice R. Jones, 89, died on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Bernie had been a secretary at Tappan Zee High School and had retired in 1980.

Florence R. "Flo" Braden, born February 24, 2015, passed away July 15, 2015. After retirement from Verizon, she continued to devote her time to driving school bus in Voorheesville, NY and South Carolina. 

Marjorie Beinkafner, 84, died Monday, July 22, 2015 in Troy. She found her calling as a certified special education teacher.

Mary E. "Betty" Madelone, born May 9, 1920 in Utica, NY, passed away July 22, 2015 in Manhattan. She was a registered nurse and practiced public health nursing and school nursing.

John F. Cavotta, 67, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was a technology teacher at South Colonie High School for 35 years, before retiring in 2003. John also coached Mechanicville High School football for many years.

Michael Vincitore, 89, passed away July 16, 2015. He was a physical education teacher for 35 years in the Schenectady Public Schools.

Charles J. Quinn Jr., 95, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015. Charlie taught high school in Tannersville, prior to joining the Navy to serve his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict.  

Grace Aletta Mueller, 79, passed away on July 7, 2015. She was employed for twenty-eight years as a speech/language pathologist for Saratoga-Warren BOCES where she worked with students in the Mechanicville, Stillwater, Waterford and Shenendehowa school districts.

Michael J. O'Brien, 76, died Sunday, July 19, 2015. Born in Albany on June 29, 1939, he taught physical education at SUNY Albany, Coxsackie-Athens High School for close to 30 years, Voorheesville High School, and Schenectady County Community College.

Nicholas F. Sapone, 78, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Nicholas was a teacher at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

Donna Lynne Salmon Oberlender, 70, passed away on July 16, 2015. She retired from Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES where she taught computer software to local school administrators and staff, as well as developing software tools for schools.

Veronica A. Rice, 64, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. In 2008 Veronica retired after 20 years of service with the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District.

Herbert G. Weidemann Jr., 77, passed away on July 14, 2015. Herb was a business teacher at Guilderland Central High School for 30 years and also coached Girls' Freshman and JV soccer at the school.

Joan Emma Fraley, 71, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Joan retired as the food service manager for the Albany City School District after 37 years of employment.

 Born on September 23, 1959, JoAnn F. Heroux passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. "Jo" was employed at the Cohoes City School District. 

Paul Weinman, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Weinman taught for 40 years at the State Museum in Albany and retired in 2002 as director of education. 

Aldona Vaitulis, 88, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015.  She taught at the original Pine Bush School in Guilderland (a two room schoolhouse she had attended through eighth grade eight years earlier), a school for US Army dependents in Germany, and the Burnt Hills School District, from which she retired.

Diane F. Leyhane, 71, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015. She was a Spanish teacher for East Greenbush Central Schools retiring in 2003 after 26 years of service.  

Anna Josephine (Ouellette) Sears, 89, died July 9, 2015. She was a federal teacher's aide, as well as a representative to the teachers' union in the Lynn (MA) Public Schools, for many years.

Marvin A. Pase, 71, died Thursday, July 9, 2015. Marv taught French for the first ten years of his career and later became a guidance counselor for Hudson City School District, retiring in 2008 after 28 years.

Walter Plath, 97, born on September 26, 1917, passed away on July 5, 2015. Walter worked as a science and math teacher at Draper High School in Rotterdam for 32 years and then became a school guidance counselor.

Francis J. Balistreri, 76, died Friday, July 10, 2015. Fran was a music teacher for the Enlarged City School District of Troy for 40 years, retiring in 2001.

Herman W. Wyld, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Coach Wyld, known as "the coach that never yelled",  retired from his career as health teacher, physical education teacher, varsity football line coach and varsity wrestling coach in 1988 from the Guilderland Central School System.  

Stanley H. Christoff, 87, died July 8, 2015. Stan joined the faculty of the Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery BOCES where he taught Building Trades. He was a union activist and President of the Teachers' Association. In the 1970s, he joined the Capital Region BOCES where he continued to teach Building Trades and initiated a Vocational Skills program for Special Education students. He served as Vice President of the Capital Region BOCES Faculty Association and was also an ED 10 delegate and Sergeant At Arms at the NYSUT Representative Assembly.


Clarabelle M. Bergin, 88, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Mrs. Bergin was employed as a secretary in the guidance office of Tamarac High School for 21 years, retiring in June of 1992.


Lawrence I. Taber, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015. He retired from  his job in maintenance  with the Ichabod Crane School this year.

Shirley Londergan Marden, 80, died Monday, July 6, 2015. She retired from the Schenectady City School District as a teachers' aide.  

Marti Fennell died July 7, 2015. She fully enjoyed her students during her long career in teaching math. She retired from Lansingburgh Knickerbocker Middle School.

Valdine E. (Hopkins) Johnson, 93, died on July 4, 2015. She had a long and successful career working as a secretary for the Ballston Spa Central School System.

James Francis Whitbeck Jr., 89, passed away July 4, 2015. He worked for the Rensselaer School System before becoming a railroad brakeman.

Patricia Favata Richute, 68, died July 4, 2015. Pat taught art in the Draper/Mohonasen school district for over 25 years, touching the lives of thousands of children.

Mary P. Fluri, 83, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015. Mary taught for many years in Nyack, NY.

Mary-Ellen Coogan Raup, 75, died Monday, July 6, 2015. In 1965 she started her career in education with the North Colonie School District serving as the school media specialist at the Goodrich, Latham Ridge and Southgate Elementary Schools before retiring in 1998. She also was very active with her local union and NYSUT. 

Nancy Mager Cannon, 82, died on July 3, 2015. She taught 7th and 8th grade biology at Canton Middle School. 

Carole L. Freedman Cohen, 72, died Saturday, July 4, 2015. She taught secondary education in the Schenectady City School System.

John W. "Jack" O'Grady, 81, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015. Retiring in 1992, his career included teaching English and history at Richfield Springs Central and Onteora Central and 30 years of service as guidance counselor, director of pupil personnel services and high school principal at Coxackie-Athens Central School.

Robert "Bob" H. Gibson, 74, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015. Before retiring in 2010, Bob's 50+ year career at the State University of New York  at Albany included serving as a graduate assistant, an academic advisor and finally, the registrar of the university.

Jack Stanton Utter, 72, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015. He was a school bus driver for Questar III (BOCES serving 23 school districts in Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties) for ten years.

Cecile R. Bergeron, 75, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015. She enjoyed working at Columbia High School in East Greenbush and interacting with the students during their lunch time.

Mary T. Wojcik passed away on July 1, 2015. Mary was a school nurse in Penfield and special education teacher at BOCES in Essex County.

Merton G. Tripp Sr., 82, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Merton was born on May 24, 1933 in Portland, Maine. He became a custodian at Greenville Central School in the 1970's, where he worked for over 30 years.

Jean Bryson McCracken was born on June 17, 1929 and died on June 22, 2015. Jean began her teaching career in Unadilla, NY and later taught a variety of garment sewing, and quilting classes in the Guilderland School District Continuing Education Department. 

Ann Isabel Boyle, 77, passed away on June 26, 2015. She was employed for two years as a teacher  in the Port Washington School District and as  a teacher for 15 years in the Albany Adult Education Department.

James Conti, born on June 19, 1927, passed away on June 29, 2015. He taught at the Otto Township Central School and was the assistant junior high football coach. In 1969, Jim started a long career with the the forerunner of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), which included Vice President of NYSTA and NYSUT Director of Field Services Operations and was instrumental in the passage of the Taylor Law.

Karen Ann Mitchell, 67, passed on June 11, 2015. She was retired from a successful career at the University at Albany in the athletic department.

Phyllis J. Sadow, 71, passed away on June 26, 2015. She worked at Craig School in the Niskayuna School District  until her retirement in 2009.

Ann P. Mahar passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015. She was employed as a teacher in the Rensselaer City School District for several years. 

Mary Louise Teetsel, 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area.

Roberta M. (Clapham) Large, 54, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015. She was employed by the Troy City School District as a special education teacher at Carroll Hill Elementary.

Thomas Spenella, 97, died Tuesday evening, June 23rd, 2015. He was a school bus driver for Cobleskill Schools and later was a custodian for the school system, retiring in 1980.

Cecilia Fava Shirikian died June 23, 2015. She had worked for the Niskayuna School District, retiring at age 55. 

Edward John Onisk, 94, passed away on Father's Day, June 21, 2015. Ed was a teacher at Jackson Heights Elementary School in Glens Falls until 1959 when he became principal. Ed remained as principal until his retirement July 1, 1980.

Eileen M. Corcoran Cholewa Zamjohn, 84, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015. She retired from the Duanesburgh Central School District in 1986.

Helen McCabe Eisenhauer died June 19th, 2015, a few weeks short of her 106th birthday. For 35 years she taught generations of kindergarteners in Ballston Spa and retired at age 81.

John Whitney "Whit" Howard Sr., 91, died Thursday, June 18, 2015. His teaching career started in 1957, with a one year stint at Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and 38 years at Linton High School in Schenectady. He taught chemistry, biology and physics. He was also an adjunct professor at Schenectady County Community College.

Ethel Cermak Tompkins, 101, died Monday, June 8, 2015. From 1964 to 1982 she was Senior Physician at SUNY Student Health Services in Albany. 

Alan Reynolds Fuess, 73, died on Thursday, June 18, 2015.  His entire teaching career of 26 years was spent at the Schodack Central Schools where he taught two generations of 4th and 5th grade students. 

Born in 1931, Donald E. "Don" Putterman died June 11, 2015. His career as a teacher and school administrator began in the Schenectady City Schools, and later included Whitehall, Herkimer, Sodus, Lake George, Berlin, Cobleskill, and Sharon Springs.

Robert A. Gagnon passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was employed with the North Colonie School District in transportation. 

Charles Garry Vedder died September 29, 2014. He was a science teacher at Schalmont Central Schools from 1959 to 1993, when he retired from active teaching. This information is from the Wednesday, June 17, 2015 edition of the Schenectady Daily Gazette.

John J. Velie, 78, died Saturday, June 13, 2015. Velie taught English and drama from 1964-1994 at Albany High School where he ran the theater department and directed over 30 plays.

Phyllis Branz Ainspan, 82, died on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Phyllis taught social studies at Albany High School and Hackett Middle School. In 1959 she became an assistant professor in education and a supervisor of student teachers in social studies at SUNY Albany.


Donna V. Christmas, 72, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Donna enjoyed a 31-year teaching career, beginning as a science teacher at Philip Schuyler High School in Albany (three years), then 28 years as a 7th grade science teacher in the South Colonie School District. During her years at South Colonie, she was active in the local and state teachers unions (SCTA and NYSUT) as a union representative and as an instructor/consultant with NYSUT. Following her retirement from South Colonie in 1997, Donna continued her work as a staff developer, both independently and through NYSUT.

William R. Dodge, 87, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015. Bill was one of the founders of Empire State College and was vice president of instruction at Rockland Community College. 

Virginia E. VanVranken, 85, died Thursday, June 11, 2015. She retired from the Shenendehowa Central School District, where she had been a district office confidential secretary for over 20 years.


Edward Michael Lange, 64, passed June 10, 2015. He taught law courses and history at Fletcher High School in Jacksonville, Florida for 32 years.

Joan King Darcy, 78, died June 7, 2015. Joan was a lifelong educator and teacher. Her teaching career spanned three decades and three school districts, Ludlow, VT, Rensselaer, NY, and Pittsfield, MA.


Ann Marie Virgilio, 65, died Thursday, June 11, 2015. Mrs. Virgilio retired in January 2008 from North Colonie Central School District, Latham, as a family and consumer sciences teacher after 30 years service.  

E. Gorden "Gordie" Van Buren, 88, died on June 10, 2015. He taught physical education for a year with the Rensselaer County BOCES system and then at the Ichabod Crane Central School system. After his retirement, he served as assistant basketball coach at Hudson Valley Community College.

Susan J. Neville, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Sue was a teacher for the Ballston Spa Central Schools, teaching at Malta Terrace and Milton Terrace Elementary Schools.

Harvey J. Durham, 91, died on June 10, 2015. He was a history teacher and high school principal at Coxsackie-Athens Central School. Later, he was head of the history department at Revena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School, retiring in 1986 after 34 years in education.

Stephen "Steve" Veselka Sr. died on June 9, 2015. He retired from a 40 year  career of teaching math and science at Lansingburgh High School in 1997.


George A. Voris, 93, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015. For many years George was a Professor in the Education Department at SUNY Oneonta.

Winifred Crannell Hayes Asher, 97, died Saturday, June 6, 2015. Mrs. Asher was an art teacher in the Troy School District. She also taught painting in the adult education program at Troy High School.

Eileen Zarzycki, 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Eileen was a cafeteria manager for many years for the Schenectady City School District.

William E. Kochem Sr., 101, died Thursday, June 4, 2015. He was a longtime bus driver for the Niskayuna School District.

Joseph G. Manupella, 87, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He served as attendance officer for the Lansingburgh School System.

John Francis Hoffert Sr., 87, passed away on June 2, 2015. He worked as an industrial arts teacher for Hyde Park Central School District for 31 years.

Robert Turner Noble Jr., 90, died June 2, 2015. In his first public school assignment he taught music at the Windsor Central School District. In 1959 Bob made a career change and worked at the Scotia-Glenville Central District as a guidance counselor until his retirement in 1979.

Mary Schmitz, 86, died May 31, 2015.
She worked as a book keeper for the Bethlehem School District.

Theresa (Mildred Cipriano) Parisi, born October 15, 1928, died May 31, 2015. She worked with a dedicated team of teachers at Schenectady Central Park Middle School for 27 years. 

Clementina A. "Tina" Caporale, 88, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, June 1, 2015. She worked as a Home Economics Teacher for the Schenectady City School district.

Thomas R. Haberbush, 83, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015. Tom spent the majority of his career as a school teacher. His fondest teaching years were spent during the 1960s at the East Nassau School District.

Sara D. (Danzis) Lukasiewicz, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Sue taught high school English at the Perth Central Schools.

Roslyn Gladstone Brown, 77, died on May 24, 2015. Roslyn was a beloved teacher of French at Voorheesville High School from 1968-1976 and then had a distinguished career with NYSUT until she retired in 2003.

Dennis A. Haughney Jr., 41, passed away May 24, 2015. Denny was employed by Lansingburgh Central School District.

Edna Mildred di Domenica Pierce, 97, died Sunday, May 24, 2015. Mrs. Pierce was a third grade teacher at the West Sand Lake Elementary School for 25 years, retiring in 1983.

Robert A. Kniskern, 80, died Sunday, May 24th, 2015. Bob drove a school bus for the Schoharie Public School District.

Donald F. Wheatley, 68, died on Monday, May 25, 2015. Starting in 2001, he worked 10 years as a school bus driver for the Colonie School District.

Leonora A. Molitor died May 24, 2015. Lee began her 40 year teaching career at Albany Public School 3 in 1955, retiring from School 26 in 1995. 

Charles E. Yandell, 80, died Sunday, May 24, 2015. He was a business administrator for the New York State University system for over 30 years, retiring in 1997.

Lois Mannheimer, 96, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, As a teacher of English and Social Studies she worked at the Phelps Central School from 1941 to 1943. After thirty-eight years at Bethlehem Central School she retired in 1981.

Carmine A. Taglione, 66, died Saturday morning, May 23, 2015. Carm was a dedicated educator in the South Colonie School District for 38 years.

Albert Beninati, 89, died on May 22, 2015. He taught mathematics in Kerhonkson, Nyack, the State University of New York at New Paltz, and finished his career by teaching math at Niskayuna High School.  

Charlotte A. Baker, 82, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She enjoyed 35 years of teaching at Hamilton-Wenham School District in Wenham, MA, until her retirement.

Regina B. Taylor, also known as "Reggie" or "Jean" was born July 15, 1926. Her passing was reported May 21, 2015 in the The Daily Gazette of Schenectady. She taught in the Niskayuna School District, specializing in remedial math and reading.

Mary Hannahs, 95, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Mrs. Hannahs taught music for 20 years in the public school systems in Brant Lake, Saratoga Springs, Waterford, and Amsterdam, NY. She retired from teaching in 1981.

Beverly Spiegel, 91, passed away May 18, 2015. In 1968, she began work as an assistant to the dean of the UAlbany School of Education, where she worked for 15 years until her retirement. 

Mildred Hunting Tebbutt Glass, 93, passed away May 15, 2015. "Mid" was employed by the Ichabod Crane Central School District as a nurse's/teacher's aide. 

Clare P. Finnegan, 85, died Saturday, May 16, 2015. She was a teacher for many years at Sloane Central Schools in Depew, NY. After moving to Latham, she was a substitute teacher for the North Colonie School District.

Marie "Net" Kitrick, 94, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015. Net was in charge of laundry at Mechanicville High School for over 25 years. 

Francis W. Baker, 85, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015. He taught at Richmondville Central School for a year and retired after 37 1/2 years of service at the Shenendehowa Central School System. 

Edward G. Sellnow Jr., 77, died Friday, May 15, 2015. He was employed for 40 years at SUNY-Albany, retiring in 2002.

William A. "Bill" Spiegel, 72, passed away on May 13, 2015. He was a school bus driver working for several school districts, serving 11 years at the  Guilderland School District before retiring in 2004.

Mildred L. Hopmeier, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015. She was employed by Schalmont High School as a secretary for many years.

Diane Lee Selby, 74, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. She had been a secretary for multiple principals at Skano Elementary School in the Shenendehowa School District. 

Gwen Gurien was born in 1928 and died Sunday, May 10, 2015. She taught elementary school in California and Special Education classes in Belleville, New Jersey for many years.

Jacquelyn R. Wilcox, 58, passed away May 9, 2015. She was employed as a school bus driver in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area.

Alan R. McCartney, 67, passed away on May 8, 2015. He was an educator at SUNY Plattsburg, Sackets Harbor Central School District, Mexico Academy and Central School District, Crown Point Central School District, Voorheesville Central School District and at the time of his death he was serving as superintendent of the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central Schools.  

E. Helen Gardner, 97, passed away April 20, 2015. She was a teacher and librarian at Columbia High School in East Greenbush, retiring in 1976.

Miss Anna M. Buno, 86, died peacefully on  Christmas morning, December 25, 2014. She was an elementary librarian in the South Colonie School District until her retirement in 1983. News received May 11, 2015.  

Margorie Dedie, 91, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015. Marge was a fifth-grade teacher at Greenville Central Schools for 21 years.

Dorothy M. Meyer Caracciolo, 93, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015. In 1986 Dorothy retired from the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District after many years of service at the Business Office. 

Marian A. DeLong (Keeler), 77, passed away April 14, 2015. She was a Shenendehowa Central School District bus driver for 25 years.

Alexander R. Grone died on May 4, 2015 at the age of 83. He was a professor and professor emeritus of physics at Hudson Valley Community College for 47 years. 

Ruth Harriman Bordt, 88, died May 8, 2015. Mrs. Bordt was employed as a substitute teacher at Averill Park High School and assistant librarian at Fox Lane High School in the Bedford Central School District.

Elizabeth Coe, 72, died on May 2, 2015. She worked for 15 years as a school bus driver in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area.

Ruth J. Lambert, 83, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015. She worked as a school bus driver for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District.

Richard Allen Spadaro, 66, passed away April 28, 2015. Dick taught industrial arts at the North Colonie Shaker High School.

Mary P. "Marlitz" Tracy, 92, died Sunday, May 3, 2015. She taught home economics at Bethlehem Central High School.


Helen O. Scanlon, 97, died Friday, May 1, 2015. Mrs. Scanlon was a teacher for the East Syracuse - Minoa School District for many years. 

H. Luther Everly, 89, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015. He started his teaching career in the Bayshore, L.I. school district in 1959 and retired from Hoosick Falls where he served as the High School Music Band director in 1989.

Thomas A. Constantine, 76, died Sunday, May 3, 2015. In 1999, he joined the faculty of the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy of the State University of New York as a public service professor.

Leona Van Huesen Wagner, 96, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015. She was employed as an administrative assistant for Lincoln School in Scotia.

Becky Bowles Cornick, 57, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Becky worked for 29 years as a special education paraprofessional and a computer tech paraprofessional for the Schenectady City School District. 

Melanie Bleich, born in 1945, died Saturday, May 2, 2015. She taught at Hudson Valley Community College for 27 years and retired in 2006 as a professor of academics.

Betty I. Wheeler, 91, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Betty was a physical education teacher for the Ballston Spa Central School System for her entire career after graduating from Cortland State College. She served as the president of the Ballston Spa Teachers Association for 13 years and served as the chief contract negotiator, even after retiring from her teaching position.

Nicholas W.L. Terlaak-Poot, 69, died Friday, May 1, 2015. Nick taught junior high history and English at Broadalbin Central School for 12 years.

J. Michael Martin, 57, died April 30, 2015. Mike was first employed as a Vocational Arts Instructor at Job Corp. in Glenmont before accepting a position at Amsterdam High School and later Troy High School until his retirement.

Jacqueline M. Svec, 85, died Saturday, April 25, 2015. She was employed by the Scotia-Glenville School District as a food service leader until her retirement in 1985. 

Carol DeLisle, 72, passed away Monday, April 27, 2015. Carol was a supervisor in the Fines Department of the Library Department of SUNY-Albany for 25 years, retiring in 2003.

Marguerite (Margo) Bonthuis, born in 1930, died April 22, 2015. She taught kindergarten at Riverside and Howe schools in the Schenectady City School System. 

Margaret L. Miller, 92, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015. Later in life, she had a second career with the Niskayuna School District as the secretary to the superintendent. 

Vinnie M. (Sidoti) Casatelli, 99, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015. She worked as a teacher's aide at Clinton Heights School in East Greenbush.

Susan E. Patti, 66, died Saturday, April 25, 2015. After college she taught at Philip Schuyler Elementary School in Albany, retiring after 30 years.

Nancy Woolf Toporowski, 84, at rest Friday, April 24, 2015. She taught school for 33 years in the Mohonasen School District.

Dorothy M. Aubry, 87, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2015. A graduate of the Fanny Farmer School of Cookery in Boston, she worked in the cafeteria of the Montague Center Elementary School in Montague, Massachusetts.

Dallas G. Rogers, 96, passed away on April 22, 2015.  Dallas worked several years as a teacher in the Schenectady schools prior to having her family. 

Thelma B. Donahue, 98, passed away March 31, 2015. She was a teacher with the East Greenbush Central School District and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1978.

Patricia J. Bucher, 89, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015. She taught kindergarten at Elsmere Elementary School in Delmar.

Marion B. C. DelConte, 99, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with the children at Westmere Elementary School in Guilderland.

Francis Glenn Cummings, 85, passed away on April 19, 2015. He taught instrumental music at several schools, retiring from Duanesburg Central School in 1984.

R. Madelyn Young passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Madelyn taught music in the Niskayuna school system for over 30 years at Van Antwerp, Craig and Glencliff schools.

Joan Rausch Eustace, of North Greenbush, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015. She retired from SUNY Research in 1987.

Anthony Conti, 89, of Albany, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015. He was employed by the Albany City School System.

Ruth M. Campbell, 84, died on Sunday, April 19 (?), 2015. She taught for 27 years in the Scotia public schools.

On Friday, April 17, 2015, Rosalind Cuomo Marshall, 68, passed away. Rosalind was a teacher's aide at Schalmont, until her retirement.

Phyllis M. Vernooy, 91, passed away on April 15, 2015. She was passionate about her 23 years of teaching second grade at Plattsburg Air Force Base, from where she retired in 1989.

Mary E. (Longo) Pratico passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2015. Mary was a high school teacher in Pennsylvania prior to her marriage in 1947.

John Franklin Snead passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He was a registered nurse and later taught special education in Syracuse for 16 years.

Freda A. Marquit, 92, formerly of Ravena and Prattsville, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Freda was a registered nurse and later a nurse at Gilboa-Conesville Central School District.

Andrew Burton Sabol, 46, died August 4, 2014. He taught at Herkimer County Community College and SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome.

Leo Cohen, age 97, of Albany, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He taught science in the Schenectady School System for almost 20 years.

Doris M. Almstead, 99, of Schenectady (New York), formerly of Clifton Park, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015. She started her career as a high school English teacher at Mepham High School on Long Island. She was the first librarian at Hudson Valley Community College. In 1976 she retired as librarian of the Canton High School. 

Henry "Hank" Linett, age 97, died on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was a physical education teacher at Hackett High School in Albany for more than 30 years. 

Richard Henry Alexander passed away on March 30, 2015. He served in several school districts in Westchester County as supervisor of school bus transportation.

Thomas S. Dowling passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Tom was a bus driver for the Shenendehowa School District  for 15 years until his retirement.

Charmaine Lea (Curry) Hutcheson passed away on April 8, 2015. Charmaine substituted in the Galway and Saratoga Springs school districts, before teaching for over two decades at Galway at Joseph Henry Elementary. 


Suzanne Jones Carr, age 88, died April 7, 2015. She taught instrumental music in the Bethlehem Central School District from 1967 to 1982. Prior to that, she taught music in the South Colonie Central Schools.

Robert S. McCullough, 96, passed away April 11, 2015. He was a maintenance foreman for Scotia-Glenville Central School District, retiring in 1980.

Elizabeth A. Cleary, age 74, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Elizabeth was a teacher and department chairperson for the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District for 35 years until her retirement in 1999. 

Linda A. Lombardi-Doyle, 63, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015. During her 40 year career as a teacher and administrator, she taught business classes in the Watervliet and Cohoes school districts and was an administrator in the Schenectady City School District. 

Elizabeth E. Whitford Van Riper, 83, passed away on April 5, 2015. She taught all over New York State and continued to substitute teach in the Scotia-Glenville District even when retired.

Elaine Marshall Rogers, 76, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. She taught at Shenendehowa Central School and for Head Start of Schenectady County.

Jean Lorraine (Frey) Adams, born August 4, 1918, passed away March 30, 2015. She had a 25-year career with the Bethlehem School District.

Olympia  Lanzone D'Amico, 92, died Monday, April 6, 2015. She spent several years as a cafeteria aide for the Mechanicville School System. 

Beverly A. Wait, 91, died Saturday, March 28, 2015. She worked at the Mohonasen High School in Rotterdam.

Frances Caperonis, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2015. Frances taught business for the New Rochelle School System for many years until her retirement.

Lillian M. (Razmantas) Pindiak passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015. She retired from SUNY Cobleskill as head nurse of the Beard Health Center after 22 years of service.

Geremia (Jean) Babin, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 26, 2015. Her last employment was with the Mohonasen School District, Rotterdam.

Violet D. Weise, 81, passed away peacefully at home on March 30, 2015. Violet worked for more than 30 years as a playground monitor for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District.

Donald Liburdi, 59, died Monday, March 30, 2015. He was employed by the North Colonie Central School District as a custodian for over 23 years. 

Dorothea S. Wohlgemuth, 100, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Mrs. Wohlgemuth taught elementary education for St. Johnsville Central School and Canajoharie Central School until her retirement in 1974.

Joseph Notar, 84, passed away Friday Afternoon, March 27, 2015. He taught English and social studies at McKinley Junior High in Schenectady.

Barbara A. Weaver, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015. She held various positions in the Cohoes City School District for 30 years, retiring in 2005. 

Oliver M. Nikoloff, 88, died Thursday, February 19, 2015. Ollie taught high school English and social studies and served as a school psychologist in the Buffalo Public Schools for 3 years, was on the faculty at the SUNY at Buffalo for 6 years, and later, retired as a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at SUNY Albany.

Edeltraud Siemann Roach passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Edel retired from SUNY Albany after a 33 year career.

Miriam Theresa Taaffe died on March 17, 2015. Mim retired as budget control officer to the State University of New York Chancellor in 1975.

Judith G. Wolfe, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Judy was an elementary school teacher at Shenendehowa for more than 20 years.

Katherine Dee Englander Cohen passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015. Katherine touched many lives through her years of teaching at Albany High School.

Dorothy M. "Dot" Komp, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. She worked for the Scotia-Glenville Public School System until her retirement.

Alston J. Spain Sr., age 93, died on Monday, March 23, 2015. He was a teacher at School 5 in Troy.

Mark Vogel, 51, of Rensselaer, passed away March 22, 2015. He most recently worked for the Schodack Central School District.

Anita C. Graebner, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Anita worked as a secretary in the Garden City School District on Long Island.

William David Roth, or "Bill" to his 
friends and family, 72, passed away the morning of March 17, 2015. Bill founded the Center for Computing and Disability at the University at Albany, where he was a professor in the 
School of Social Welfare.

Everett C. Slater, Jr., 86, at rest, Friday, March 13, 2015. He was a school bus driver for the Duanesburg Central School District.

Ann Marie DeMasi died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Ann was a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Scotia-Glenville School District. 

Joan M. Johnson, age 80, of Caroga Lake, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. She was last employed as a nurse's aide at McNab-Meco Elementary School (Gloversville School District). 


Helen L. Butler, 102, died Thursday, March 19, 2015. She was a 6th grade teacher for the Troy City School District at School 12 in South Troy for over 30 years before retiring in 1971.


John M. Hansen Jr. taught industrial arts and mechanical drawing in the South Huntington School District at Walt Whitman High School for 30 years and died March 14, 2015.

Geraldine A. Busold who taught Elementary Education in the Rensselaer City School System and in the Albany Public School System died March 14, 2015.
